Chapter 2
How can one man cause my heart rate to accelerate with just one glance? And more importantly how is it fair for that same man to be so devastatingly good looking. The man is perfection to look at.
Rose waved to the other customers that greeted her as she walked into the diner trying to find a vacant table for and her daughter Emma. So distracted by her thoughts she almost walked by a empty table, that is until Emma pulled on her hand and pointed to the table.
She sat down and stared blindly at the menu she picked up.
Dark wavy hair that looked to be no doubt soft and smooth to the touch, perfectly unblemished olive skin as far as the eyes could see, dark unwavering brown eyes that sent shivers down your spine at just one glance, his lips just the right shade and perfectly full. His voice is what made her go weak at the knees. His voice was a smooth silvery tone with an accent and edge that made you want to listen to him speak.
"So are you going to order or keep staring at the menu?"
Rose was startled out of her thoughts as Zelda snapped her fingers in front of her face. She quickly rattled off a order of pancakes for Emma and French toast eggs for herself. When she glances at the door where she had bumped into the mysterious stranger she saw him give her a curious look then a small frown that didn't belong on a face such as his appeared. She watched as he slipped on his sunglasses and turn and walk to his car parked across the street.
Snap out of it Rose the last thing you need is to get distracted by another drifter passing through town that's going to sweep you off your feet then leave you heartbroken and knocked up with baby number two.
She glanced over at Emma who was now busy cooling in her drawing book a habit that she has had ever since she first held a pencil. Wherever the was Emma her drawing book was close by.
"What are you drawing this time?" Asked Rose.
"The man with the funny voice we just saw"
"Sweetheart its not polite to say that"
"But mommy he said it was alright"
"Well I say its not alright"
"OK"
She smiled to herself as Emma sighed and went back to her drawing.
She looked around the crowded diner and smiled. Saturdays in Hollyville always brought the crowd to the local diners and pubs. Being a smalltown everyone knew each other which also meant it was hard to keep secrets in this town. Rose though loves her hometown, this place helped her to become the woman that she is. Growing up in a smalltown she learnt personal and religious values that she knew she might not have learned living in a big city.
Being a single mother came with its challenges but lucky for her she had parents and neighbors who were always ready to lend a helping hand where her daughter Emma was concerned. Her job at the local children's hospital usually kept her busy during the week which meant she missed a lot if time with her daughter, so weekends she made it her point of duty to spend time with her.
She smiled at Jeff one of the young local farmers as he walked in and sent her his usual shy smile. She instantly remembered last month when Jeff turned up at her house with a beautiful bouquet of flowers to ask her on a date. To say she was shocked would be putting it mildly. For one she didn't date, so no guy in town had bothered to ask her out for a while now because she always politely turned them down. Jeff was one of the most shy man she had ever met so him building up the courage to ask her out had come as a surprise.
She watched as his cheeks colored up when he caught her staring at him.
Poor guy, so shy.
Rose looked away from him and accepted her meal that Zelda placed on the table. Emma quickly closed her book and dug right into her breakfast causing Rose to smile. Emma had always had a hearty appetite growing up her favorite channel was the cooking channel, still is. Every year she made a wish to go to Italy to cook with a famous chef and try new dishes and every year Rose promised her she would work towards making it happen.
Emma at seven years old is very well spoken not to mention outspoken for her age. No one could ever resist her bubbly nature which often made her stand out wherever she went, even when she has her head stuck in her drawing book.
As soon as she put her last piece of French toast in her mouth her cellphone rang breaking the silence around the table. When she dug into her cluttered bag trying to find her phone. She finally located it, the caller ID showed her mother was calling.
"Hi mom"
"Hi my sweet girl I'm terribly sorry to interrupt your morning but I'm afraid I need a favor"
"Sure mom what's up?"
"Your father and I are running a bit late getting back to town and I'm sure by now our guest has arrived."
"Your guest?"
"Yes dear please try to keep up. Someone has rented the beach house for the next couple of months. His only request is that we keep the pantry and fridge loaded with food and add it to his tab"
"OK. What do you want me to do?"
"I need you to pick up some fresh food from the market dear and deliver it to the beach house. I'll of course repay you when I get home"
"Don't worry about it mom. I've got it covered"
"Thank you dear."
As soon as they got done eating, Rose paid the bill and her and Emma went off to the farmers market then the supermarket.
I hope I haven't forgotten how to shop for a mans appetite and more importantly I hope that guest mom mentioned isn't at the house yet.
With the pile of grocery bags loaded into her Buick she drove to the beach house to deliver the grocery. When she pulled into the driveway her heart skipped a beat when she noticed the car parked in the driveway. It was the same red Mercedes that was parked in front of the diner earlier.
It can't be.
Just as she climbed out of the car and reached for two of the grocery bags she turned as she heard the sound of the front door opening. Standing there was the same devastatingly handsome man from before. Rose felt her limbs turning to jelly as her eyes ran over him from his feet going all the way up until her eyes met his.
"Can I help you with something?" He asked
