~Father's Day Special~

    3rd POV
...............................

On rare occasions did the Emerald Pirates meet up with the Red Haired Pirates. Typically because the two Captains weren't the best of friends, though Shanks tried to push the boundaries towards enemies at times. However, there is two, technically three, things that keeps them civil.

Sato and Makoto. Perhaps someday even Mitsu, though that's for the future to tell.

Typically Makoto helps Sato travel over to the Emerald Pirates on Fathers Day. Today, however, he wouldn't have time to do so as he had other things he had to attend to later. Which lead to the Emerald Pirates coming to Sato.

Taro had missed much of Sato's childhood and he didn't want to miss anymore if he could help it. His crew wholeheartedly agreed with the Captain's wishes. Even Shanks, who disliked Taro, didn't object.

When they arrived Sato was quick to go towards Taro. He had a small wrapped present, which was actually from him and Mitsu. She had insisted that she at least get something for her father, though she didn't know who he was. It made the guilt squeeze on Sato, but he knew it was for the best for the moment.

Eventually Mitsu will be able to join.

While Sato greeted his father, Makoto stood by Shanks. This holiday was always awkward for him. However, Shanks never made it weird for the blue haired boy as he was growing up.

Softly Makoto pulled out a bottle which had a bow tied around it and placed it on the table in front of Shanks. A shade of pink covered his cheeks and he looked away.

Shanks grinned at the sight of the bottle. Makoto has been getting him gifts for years now. The first time it happened Shanks had teared up a little, but he didn't want to make the child feel even more embarrassed so he was quiet then and thanked Makoto for the gift.

Things have changed since then.

"Makoto!" Shanks grinned, pulling the blue haired teen into a one armed hug where the boy felt like he was being strangled with love. "Thank you! Where'd you find this? This is expensive stuff here."

Makoto's mouth turned up into a shy smile. "I didn't steal it, if that's what you're implying. I just have good connections." He shrugged.

Shanks grinned wider. "You definitly broke into an admiral's office for this stuff. I know good rum when I see it."

The crew smiled at the interaction between the two. Shanks no longer held back when Makoto gave him little gifts. Makoto also appeared less shy about it.

Meanwhile Taro had opened his gift presented to him by Sato. It was simply a decorative fan, which was jeweled with rubies. Taro's eyes widened at the sight before looking up at Sato.

"This-?"

Sato nodded, "Yeah, it was Ka-san's. I found it in the rubble of our home last time I was there. I remember her telling us stories about how she used to use it when you first met. Mainly to wack you." He snickered and Yaro smiled fondly.

"Mitsu actually helped come up with the design for it to be redone. It was in bad shape, so I was going to have to redo it anyway. Plus, she helped me find a place that would redo it." Sato stated, "So think of it as from both Mitsu and I."

Taro froze, his eyes widening before looking down at the fan. His fingers softly brushed over the rubies which were placed into a design. Then he opened it and froze once again. Inside the fan was a painted portrait of Sayomi.

"Thank you." He whispered, pressing his lips together tightly so that they wouldn't tremble.

Sato smiled, "Ah, I think it's beautiful too."

Taro softly closed it and held the fan closer to him. He couldn't find the words to express how he felt. All he knew was that he felt warm. This gift was from three of the most important people in his life. One whom is gone, one of which he can't meet, and one of who stands before him.

Perhaps one day they won't be such a broken family.

..................................................

The Straw Hat crew had been sailing for days now. Like usual it was chaos with the over active Captain. He was demanding to play tag, then demanding Katsu to draw him followed by him wanting to see her drawings, and of course it wouldn't be Luffy if he didn't demand meat. In some way he actually helped distract the crew from the holiday.

Well, all except one.

Katsu had been pacing for the past hour. Every so often she would glance at the transponder snail before sighing and turning away to continue to pace. Zoro had been watching her for the past hour and was starting to become annoyed.

"Oi, let's go take a nap." Zoro demanded, tossing a green blanket over her head.

Katsu paused, looking at Zoro, pulling the blanket to wrap around her. She stared af him before shaking her head. "Not now."

The swordsman blinked, frowning. She never passed up a chance to nap. "Do you want to draw me?" He offered, testing the waters.

Katsu shook her head softly. "Not now."

"What's up with her?" He mumbled.

Robin, who had been listening in, snickered. "She's probably waiting for a call from Mamoru." She kept her voice lower, as to not gain the girl's attention.

"Eh? Why?" Zoro questioned.

"She sent a package to him a few days ago, and if I timed it right, it would deliver today. She was very hush hush about sending it, so I don't think anyone else noticed." Robin answered, stepping to the side as Luffy came barreling through.

"I got waterguns!" He grinned, then paused as the weather changed and small flurries of snow started to fall over the ship. "Snow!! Let's make snow angles!"

He turned around and ran back to grab his jacket. The crew followed after him to grab their jackets. However Katsu stayed up on deck, the blanket still wrapped around her.

Zoro rolled his eye and when he returned with his jacket, he tossed one over her. Though he swore it had Makoto's name on it. He shrugged and leaned against the railing and continued to watch Katsu pace.

..................................................

Mamoru was out walking around the town when a delivery bird landed on his shoulder. He scowled at the bird before a poorly wrapped package was dropped into his hand. It squaked loudly in his ear, irratating the man further, before flying off.

"Damn birds." He grumbled then looked down at the package.

His scowl lightened but he grumbled when a warm fuzzy feeling filled his chest. Clearing his, throat he scowled deeper and placed the present under his arm. Then he turned around and marched his way back to the bar.

When two pirates interupted him on his way, both thinking they could take him on, his scowl deepened. Before they would even process, his arms had blackened and he had mashed their heads together. His strength hadn't been toned down as much as he meant, and it resulted in some blood from their heads.

When he let go they both collapsed to the ground without another word. Any other pirate near by quickly looked away and stepped out of his way. He wasn't interrupted again.

When he made it into the bar, which was empty except for one or two pirates and Yume, he walked into the back. Yume only had the chance to send him a look before he was in the kitchen.

He glanced upward once more before placing the present on the clean counter. His scowl had lightened into a tiny smile, and his visible eye had softened. A card was the first thing he pulled out, which had been tapped to the outer part of the present.

Old man,
I found this stupid looking shell when we were on Fishman Island. I thought it looked really stupid and that you would want something stupid too. I'm not positive, but it might even be garbage. Either way, if reminded me of you. Plus I heard if you hold it against your ear you can hear the ocean. It'll remind you of your prime years.
Katsu

Mampru snorted, rolling his eye. The brat still had an attitude with him all the way under the sea. He definitly did a good job raising her.

Knowing more of the contents Mamoru was more careful in opening the package. He blinked when he opened the wrapped gift. Clearly this was far from garbage. It was a large conch shell which shine different colors when turned. If he thought back to his days with his crew, he swore he remembered seeing something similar to this in the palace.

Softly placing it against his ear, his lips pulled up more when he heard soft waves crashing. The brat had been right, it did indeed remind him of his prime.

Picking up a transponder snail, Mamoru scowled again and dialed. The snail barely made it one ring before a failure voice, which he hasn't hear in a couple of years now, answered.

"Hello?"

"You damn brat! The nerve you have to send me garbage!" Mamoru growled, watching the snail's face go from a happy shock to an annoyed smirk.

"Like I said, garbage reminds me of you."

"So damn disrespectful! I must have raised a shit child."

"Is that Mamoru?! Hey! Why is he saying you got him garbage?" Mamoru suppressed a smirk at the sound of Luffy's voice. "You begged Shirahoshi to take that shell too! Who'd you send the shell to? Oi! Katsu!-"

Katsu cleared her throat. "Stupid Captain." She whispered. "Like I would ever send something from the palace to that idiot."

Mamoru couldn't stop the smirk this time. "Of course you wouldn't. You're too much of a disrespectful brat for that." He paused. "You just had to send this piece of garbage on fathers day, huh?"

There was a pause before she scuffed. "Whatever old man, screw off."

"Katsu! Don't talk to Old Man Mampru like that-!"

Mamoru hung up with a snort. He knew better than to keep her on the phone. It appeared her Captain was going to have some words for her. It amused the cranky old man.

He knew Luffy was good the moment he met him. If the boy's bug grin wasn't enough, the hat on his head surely was.

Softly, Mamoru placed the shell against his ear once more. He listened to the soft sound of waves for a moment before walking out towards the bar. There he wiped off some dust off of the shelf and placed the shell on it.

Resting beside the shell was two wanted posters. Each with the same red head. Beside that shell were smaller shells, none of which were as colorful as the newest one. Yet they all held the same value to Mamoru. Each had not a speck of dust on them.

Then he folded up the letter and placed it in his inner pocket. Where the a bunch of other letters sat.

"I might need to get a bigger pocket soon." He grumbled, looking up as another pirate entered. His scowl placed on his lips once more, but those that knew him could see the twinkle in his eye.

End of the Fathers Day Special!

I know it wasn't another actual chapter, but I had to use an excuse to write more Mamoru. I don't know about ya'll but I really love that character. He's a closet softie.

I was going to draw a picture of Katsu, Sato, and Makoto with their respective father figures... but I can't for the life of me draw guys. I'm cursed.

The next chapter should be up soon!

This is not edited.
