Chapter 3: Join My Crew!

I do not own One Piece

Katsu's POV
...........................................

Much to my relief, I made it to the docks without having to ask for help. Perhaps it was the arrows I had engraved in the passing by houses that finally helped me. Either that, or today happened to be my lucky day. I almost snorted at the idea of me having luck, like that actually happened.

The wind picked up as soon as my feet met the dock, the wood damp was worn from the sea and passing pirates. I glanced at the ships, just making sure no marines had docked quite yet. My eyes lingered on a fairly large ship decorated with a large lion head. I smirked at that, whoever made that ship did a nice job. Each pirate had their Jolly Roger proudly flying, which would alert the marines of the large amount of pirates we had docked here. Looking over the ships, I could let myself be glad that they had yet to dock. We still had time on our hands.

Walking to the end of the dock, I didn't have to squint to see the marine ships. They were close now, I'd say about twenty minutes from being able to dock or so.

A loud crack echoed in the air, one that I realized was a cannon fire. My eyes widened as it was send towards the ship I had appreciated earlier. Before I could react, a large being diverted the canon ball.

"SSUUPERR!" He shouted, pressing his forearmed together while leaning to the side. I blinked at the fairly large man, having not even noticed he had walked over to me. He sighed with a grin in place, "That was close, it almost hit the Sunny."

I couldn't help but stare at him. He had an odd sense of style, having chosen to wear speedos and an open shirt. Though, like me, he abandoned the thought of wearing shoes. His blue hair was styled to stick up, as if defying gravity. Perhaps he used a lot of hair gel to keep it that way.

"You...." I muttered, gaining his attention.

He blinked, looking down at me. "Hmm?"

"You look funny." I said, "Why would someone chose to wear so little clothing?" I muttered.

He squinted his eyes at me, "Eh?"

Shaking my head I offered a smile, "Well, anyway. The name's Katsu, thanks for taking care of the first cannon ball." I readied myself, looking back at the marine ships. " Now, would you do me a favor and step back a little? I know the marines will begin firing soon, and I'm going to need a running start."

He looked puzzled, but listened and stepped back. "Okay..."

I stepped back, hopping in place a little to get myself ready. "Oh! And, if you don't mind, if I fall in the water, I'll need you to get me out. Thanks." I wasn't allowed to talk any further as a crack met the air. Turning on the balls of my feet, I took a running start for the water.

Focusing on the air molecules, I jumped in the air, letting my feet meet air and jumped again. Feeling it stabilize I began running, though I was no longer touching the ground. Rather I had focused the molecules to push together enough to form a little walkway for me, which I was running on.

Seeing the canon ball closer, I stuck my arms out in front of me. Grasping the air I twisted my body around in a circle, seeming to turn the canon ball in the other direction. Now, it was heading straight back at the marines.

Before I could lose concentration, I jumped back for the docks. My body free fell for only a moment then my feet were welcomed by the damn wood of the docks. Steadying myself, I shook my hair out of my face.

The strange tall man looked at me, "So you're a devil fruit user."

I nodded, "Yup." I paused, "I didn't catch your name."

He grinned, "Franky."

Another crack met the air, this time much more loud. Turning around I realized they had send out not one, but three. Repeating the process from earlier, I kept myself in the air as I redirected the canon balls. Slightly more out of breath,  I landed on the docks once more.

"I need to get to those ships." I muttered.

"You little brat!" I turned around quickly enough to receive a harsh pound in my scull. I cried out, clutching my head while shooting a glare at my black haired guardian.

"What was that for, old man?!" I shouted.

He glared right back at me. "You think you can handle marines?!"

"I've been handling a lot of things, it's not like there's an admiral there!" I countered, "Besides, you need to be with Jiro right now. I can take care of them. If I can't, then there is no way for me to be a pirate."

His jaw clenched and unclenched, but I met his gaze harshly and with determination. "Fine. But you're not going alone."

I smiled, "I'm confident, not suicidal. You're coming with me?"

I wasn't going to admit this to him. But there was a small part of me that had wanted him to say yes. I enjoyed fighting beside Mamoru with pirates, and maybe I thought it would be nice to take down the marines with him. However, he did have other things to attend to, such as getting the hypnotist ready for the marines.

"Nope. You're going with these three. I'll go get those hypnotist." He smiled at my uneasy look at Straw Hat. "I'm sure Straw Hat can handle those marines, he does have a bounty of three hundred million beli."

I blinked, looking at Straw Hat. For a person who looked so scrawny, he sure did have a big bounty. Beside him were Zoro and Sanji, those two I knew could handle themselves. Especially after their fight earlier.

"Okay," I grinned, turning around to look at the ships. "There are two ships, so we can split up evenly." I explained, looking at the three males. However, I grew a little worried from the blank, almost brain dead, look I was receiving from Straw Hat. As well as the loving look I was receiving from Sanji, is it normal for his eyes to turn into hearts every time he sees a female?

"I'm assuming Zoro and Sanji can take down a ship together. Straw Hat, you're with me. I can probably bring us all over there..." I paused, realizing Straw Hat was grinning and his arms were stretching out on either side of us. "Wait, since when do your arms stretch?" I asked.

Zoro and Sanji reacted with loud surprise, "Luffy, don't!" Ah, so his name is Luffy.

"Gum Gum Rocket!" He grinned, letting go. Then, we were airborn.

Lucy grinned, shouting out a victory, then grabbed onto me as he chose a ship. By now my heart was in my throat and I was ready to pass out. My scream wouldn't come out, my body still in shock from the sudden take off. This was completely different from me running on air! This idiot was going to get me killed!

"Oi! Take care of Katsu, Luffy!" Sanji ordered as he and Zoro landed on the ship beside us.

We landed beside them, though unlike me Luffy landed on his two feet. I blinked a few times, trying to get my organs back in their normal place. How the hell were they already fine after being slingshotted into the air like that?

"Don't just stare you morons! Attack!"  A voice ordered.

"Ne, Katsu, you should get up now." Luffy said as he punched a marine in the face.

"Yeah," I muttered, standing up. "It's totally normal to be shot into the air like that. Just like its normal to see rubber people." I remarked, finally recovering. "There's totally a whole clan of rubber people." Seeing a marine slash at me, I ducked and delivered a deep slash to his chest. Jumping back I lightly bounced forward to elbow the marine in the face, knocking him out.

Luffy punched another marine, then looked at me in surprise. "Really?!"

My eye twitched in annoyance, "No you idiot! That was sarcasm!"

He blinked, "Oh."

Seeing a marine going for a swipe at Luffy's back, I jumped for an attack. Jumping in the air, I twisted my body while dragging my daggers across his sword. Sparks flew from the contact of our blades.

With my body still airborne, I stretched one leg out to meet him in the gut. A grin plastered itself on my face as he grunted from my kick, his strength behind his sword lowering for just the briefest seconds.

Landing on the deck again, I stepped to the side as he lunged at me. His balance was still a little off from my kick, which gave me another few seconds advantage. Twisting on the balls of my feet, I lifted my leg for another kick. However, he turned in time to catch my leg.

It would appear that I miscalculated on my timing.

He appeared angry, I'm assuming because of my short stature. Most men didn't like their ego's being knocked down by someone shorter than them, much less a woman. He pulled on my leg, making me lose balance and fall over. My heart skipped a beat and my eyes widened as his sword pointed down at me.

Just like earlier, with Luffy, a sharp pain entered my head. The scenery around me disappeared as I found myself in a cell. In front of me I saw a shadow of a man in a marine uniform walking towards me. His smile was the only thing visible on his shadowed face. An overwhelming desire- need to escape entered my body as fear filled my being.

Just as quick as the image entered my head it was gone, but the emotions still lingered. My limbs acted on their own, scrambling to get me away from the image that had been in my mind.

A burning pain crashed in my arm, snapping me out of my daze. The dark cell disappeared completely, letting the light of the day fill my sight. The loud shouts from the battle filled my ears again, reminding me what was going on.

I blinked, seeing the marine captain in front of me once more. It was around then I also realized he had stabbed me in the arm.

My adrenaline pumped, but the lingering effects of the fear weighed down my limbs. Using my good arm, I wrapped my hand around the sword that was still in my arm, keeping it in place. Crimson blood ran down my hand and dropped onto my arm and soon onto the deck.

He yanked at the sword, I winced but held on tightly. My arm screamed in pain, and my hand was no doubt now sliced as well. However, I found that I couldn't let go of the sword. With both of my arms now useless and busy, I couldn't land a hit on him. He was in the same position though, as without the sword I was keeping, he was weapon less.

I'm assuming somewhere on the sword is sea prism, as my energy was being drained from the sword. Perhaps Mamoru was right, I wasn't completely ready to take on the marines. The grip on the sword slid slightly at the captains next jerk, as it was slick with my blood.

"Katsu!" Luffy shouted, then only a second later an arm was wrapped around me, and a fist was sailing towards the captain.

My eyes widened as the man fell backwards, or rather flew backwards. As soon as his head hit the deck, he was knocked out. The sword was yanked out painfully, ripping at my arm as it was pulled from the wound. I managed to keep from crying out, though a few drops of sweat did form on my forehead.

I crashed into Luffy, who was laughing like we didn't just attack a bunch of marines, but we're playing a childish game. "You knocked him out in one shot." I muttered in awe, seeing the captain on the ground.

Luffy laughed, "Shishishi, you were distracting him, so I made sure to get a good shot!" He grinned. "Oh! Katsu, join my crew!" That didn't sound like a question. It sounded like an order.

I blinked, normally people asked. I had a feeling he wasn't really asking, more like demanding. He's a strange guy.

......................

The hypnotist was dealing with the marines, hoping to block their memories of this particular side of the island. From there, we would send them back on their ships into the opposite side, where they would think they landed on a beast inhabited island.

My arm was still bleeding, as well as my sliced up hand. In all honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if my arm needed to be stitched, if felt like the sword had torn it. Though it would be dealt with as soon as we got to the bar.

Mamoru walked beside me, his face emotionless. I think it was disappointment in me, he must have seen me freeze up and Luffy save me.

I was troubled by the image of the marine, I didn't really get the face of him. However, the feeling of fear was so strong it rendered me motionless. It made me skeptical of what my past truly held. Did I really want to know?

Swinging open the door to the bar I walked over to Jiro. He seemed much more peaceful than when I had left him. Beside him was a adorably tired raccoon dog. I assume, while it was strange, that he was the doctor.

I offered a small smile, sitting down on the ground beside the cot Jiro rested on. "I'm guessing you're the doctor who took care of Jiro. Thank you."

He grinned, a blush appearing on his face. "Thanking me doesn't make me happy at all, you bastard!" He paused in the middle of his little dance, seeing the blood on my arm then on my hand which had started to drop to the ground. "Oh, you're hurt. Here, let me bandage that."

My body went stiff as he took hold of my arm looking at the wound. "You're going to need stitches." He muttered, then started digging in his bag.

"Ah, really I'm fine." I shook my head, holding onto my wound. "I can wait for Jiro to do it."

The little raccoon dog shook his head. "I can do it, don't worry. Besides, he is injured as well, it might be a while until he wakes up."

I opened my mouth to object, but a hand on my shoulder interrupted me. I looked up to see Robin. She smiled at me, "You're in good hands with Chopper, I promise."

I gave a stiff nod, letting Chopper first bandage my hand after sanitizing it. This was my first time letting anyone other than Jiro treat me. Chopped looked at me, "You need to relax."

My toes curled as I tried to force myself to relax. Footsteps approached, hearing the putter of heavy boots, I knew it was Mamoru. He stood behind me, placing his hand on the shoulder Robin had touched. "Katsu, it's okay." I could hear the smirk in his voice.

I let out a breath, this time relaxing. Immediately he started to disinfect the wound in my arm. A whine escaped my lips at the burning. Chopped looked at me. "I'm going to numb it so it doesn't hurt as much."

"N-No." I stammered. "Just do it, it's fine."

He seemed hesitant, but a nod from Mamoru got him going again. After threading the needle, he got to work on my wound, stitching up the torn skin. I remained silent, my injured hand clenched in a fist as the needle went in and out of my arm. Sweat trailed down my check.

I focused my attention either on the dull pain in my hand, or on Jiro. He was well bandaged and his breathing was even.

Mamoru had retreated to the kitchen, to work on some food for the Strawhats. After all they have done, it was only right to repay them with a good meal.

"There, all done." Chopped smiled, finishing thing a bandage around my arm.

I smiled, wiping away my sweat on my shoulder. "Thanks! You might just be better than Jiro."

Mamoru, who had heard me, laughed. "Take that as a high compliment, reindeer! She's only let Jiro treat her wounds since she's been here!"

"Reindeer?" I muttered, looking at the small Doctor. He was currently blushing and doing the little dance I had seen him doing earlier.

"Katsu! Join my crew now!" Luffy demanded.

I looked at him, raising an eyebrow. "Eh? Sorry, but no."

He grinned, "That's not an answer!"

I looked at Mamoru, who had placed down a plate of meat in front of Luffy. I noticed a look of fondness cross his face. Which was entirely strange, normally he just scowls at people and mutters how annoying they are.

Sighing, I stood up and dusted off my pants while walking to the doors of the bar. Pausing, I took a quick moment to swipe up my sketchbook, which had been abandoned in the bar. "Oi, Mamoru, I'm going out."

He raised an eyebrow, "Really? I need help with the bar, and you're injured."

I rolled my eyes. "You're fine, the only people who are here are these guys, and they won't start up any trouble. And Chopper did a great job, I hardly qualify myself as injured now." I paused, gripping my sketchbook. "Besides, there's something I need to get down."

The image of the red haired man entered my mind. A warm comforting feeling greeted me with that image. Much unlike the one I had received form the marine. Whoever that red haired man was, he must have been important to me.

"I'll see you later, Mamoru." I paused, the door half open. "You should let those pirates crash here for the week, while their log pose sets."

Mamoru sighed, knowing I was going to leave no matter what he said. "Don't be out too late, brat." He shouted as the door swung shut behind me.
