Chapter 15: The Ghost Island
I don't own One Piece
..................................
After Brook told us about the island, which was originally from the West Blue, he left. As in he jumped off the ship with a simple thank you and ran across the water. Yes, he ran across the water.
"That's actually pretty cool." I muttered to myself, still staring out at sea as Brook ran.
"A-At any rate, Luffy, let's take his advice!" Nami stammered, referring to Brook's advice of us fleeing the island. "I have no idea what's going on, but this island is clearly nothing but trouble!"
Luffy looked towards Nami, a big excited grin on his face. "Huh? Did you say something?"
"He's dying to go!" Nami, Usopp, and Chopper yelled in unison. A small amused smile crossed my face. Luffy loves adventure, and this island screams adventure as well as trouble. It was perfect for our captain.
"Hey, where'd that ghost go?!" Chopper panicked. "Is it still on board?!"
"No." Zoro answered, "It flew back towards the island. That's probably where it resides."
"About that tremor we felt a while ago." Our attention was brought to Robin, who was pointing at some gates. "I believe it came from those gates shutting. I think that it essentially devoured us."
I wrinkled my nose, "That's a weird thing to say."
"So it ate us?" Luffy blinked.
"It's hard to see through the fog, but the fence extending from the gate appears to encompass the island." Robin explained, "In other words, our ship is currently trapped."
"I get it!" Usopp exclaimed, trembling. "That's why the skeleton told us to escape ASAP!"
My attention went from the crew who was talking to Luffy. He had just ran back into the kitchen, stretching his arm to close the door behind him.
"What is he doing?" I mused to myself.
"Listen guys. I've come down with Fear-Of-Unknown-Island-Osis!" Nami cried, hugging her knees.
Beside Nami sat Chopper. "Same! I've caught the same bug!"
I raised an eyebrow, "Really now? That sucks, you'll probably be stuck on the ship all by yourself while the rest of us go check out the haunted island."
The door opened, revealing our captain. Luffy grinned, holding a net and a basket around his neck. "Okay! Let's take her up to shore!"
"Do you have Set-For-Adventure-Osis?!" Usopp shouted at Luffy.
I couldn't stop the giggle that escaped me. It dawned on me that Luffy had run back inside to grab a net, which he would try to use to catch interesting things.
"Think that over! Luffy, open your eyes!" Usopp demanded, pointing to the island. "See that creepy building?! It's a real haunted mansion! You're taking malicious spirits way too lightly!"
Luffy grinned, "What are you talking about? I'm being super careful!" He held up his net and basket-cage. "I'm gonna catch the ghost and keep it as a pet."
I blinked, "Wait, you plan to catch the ghost?"
Luffy looked at me and nodded. "Yeah."
I tilted my head, "And you expect to keep it as a pet? Like you'll feed it and train it and everything?"
Luffy nodded once more. "Yeah."
I scratched my cheek. "Ne, don't you think the ghost will go through the cage though?"
"That's what you're worried about?!" Usopp's teeth turned sharp as he yelled at me.
"Well yeah!" I responded. "We can't let Luffy set his expectations too high! It may be impossible to put a ghost in a cage and keep it as a pet!"
"Above all else, we have to bring back our dear crew mate." Luffy added, walking past us. "Sanji, my pirate lunch!"
"Crew mate?" Usopp asked, frowning. "I'm against you on that one! I'd be too scared to sleep at night if we had a skeleton for a crew mate!"
I raised my hand, "I'd knock you out so you could sleep if you want, Usopp!" A smile lit up my face, it would be a good excuse to hit Usopp.
"N-No, Katsu!" Usopp shouted, taking a step away from me.
I shrugged then whispered, "Perhaps you should learn to grow a pair then."
"I got your lunchbox," Robin smiled, holding Luffy's boxed meal.
"I'm going with you!" I grinned, making sure my daggers and pistol were attached to my belt.
"Luffy, Franky! You'd better be sure to protect Robin-chan and Katsu-chan!" Sanji ordered, lighting a cigarette.
Franky stepped up beside me grinning. "There's nothin' like exploring an uncharted island, is there?"
Nami looked at Robin and I with worry laced eyes. "You've gotta be kidding! You're going with them, Katsu, Robin?"
Robin and I glanced at each other than at Nami with smiles on our faces. "I simply love the thrill." Robin smiled.
I chuckled, "Ah, and I need to get all the details. An artist needs to see what she's drawing! I can't rely on these boys to explain all the details on the island."
Franky grinned, gaining my attention. "All right! So, guys, we're gonna take a small boat to disembark, but I've still got a special surprise I haven't showed you yet! Katsu actually helped me with some of these things. It's the soldier Dock System, Channel 2!"
My eyes lit up, "That's right!" We had finally finished the final touches, which Nami had us redo earlier.
"This system has a total of five channels. Zero comes up twice. One, two, three, and four." Franky explained. "Each dock has it's own unique system."
"Just a second!" Nami stopped Franky's explanation. "You've already revealed the paddle wheel in zero, and the contents in one and three."
"But, as I recall, you said two and four were still empty." Usopp added.
I rolled my eyes as Nami, Chopper, and Usopp ran towards the ladder to find out what the new channel contained. A grin formed on my face, I hoped the crew liked it. Franky was sure they would like it this time, but I couldn't stop the small skepticism from entering my head. If they did like it, I just hoped I made it to the standards of the crew. I made it going completely off when Franky explained to me.
"What is it?" Luffy asked, looking from me to Franky.
"Just watch." I answered with a smile, looking down at the water.
"What's gonna pop out?!" Luffy asked, excitement filling him.
Just then the small boat that I helped Franky craft came out, driven by Nami. I looked towards the crew, seeing large smiles on their faces. Franky stood beside me. "With its steam engine, this paddle steamer that sits four is the Mini Merry!"
I let out a sigh of relief. "They like it."
Franky riffled my hair, apparently hearing what I had said. "I told you they would! It's an exact replica."
"Thank you, Franky, Katsu!" Nami shouted from the boat.
Sanji grinned, "I'll be more than happy to go shopping for supplies in a boat like that!"
Luffy, who had began jumping up and down for a while now shouted in excitement. "Yahoo! Gimme a turn! I want a turn now!"
Zoro looked towards Franky, a small smirk on his face. "You took considerate to a new level."
"Including one and three I already showed you, this is it! At the moment, that's everything the Soldier Docks System has to offer. Consider them soldiers meant to assist the Thousand Sunny's voyage." Franky grinned.
I smiled, walking to stand beside Robin. Luffy was becoming a little too excited for me. Looking down at me, Robin smiled. "I had Sanji pack you a lunch as well. He put extra food in it since you missed dinner."
My eyes widened as I glanced at her. "You noticed?"
She smiled, "I'm sure everyone did. Though we did have a distraction to keep from bothering you."
A sudden yell halted our conversation. "Nami-san?" Sanji ran to the rails of the ship. "Nami-san! What happened?!"
"What are they up to?" Zoro muttered, trying to see through the thick fog. "I can't see through this fog."
"Her scream came from the island." I muttered, walking towards the edge. My eyes squinted as I hoped to see through the fog better.
Rather than being worried, Luffy started jumping against the rails again. "Guys, lemme ride the Mini Merry already!"
"Jerk!" Sanji's teeth grew shark like. "You should be worried about Nami-san!"
Beside me Franky muttered, "And you should be worried about the other two on top of her."
"I wonder if that scream means a ghost killed them with a curse?" Robin mused, placing her hand on her chin in thought.
I wrinkled my nose, "Why would you even consider that? That's just..." I shook my head.
"Stop that!" Zoro frowned at the same time I spoke. "You'll jinx them!"
My body jumped as I reached for my daggers as the anchor went down. "Who did that?" I asked, taking a step away from the crew.
"No one touched the anchor." Sanji answered, blinking in confusion.
"And it's too new for the gears to becoming loose." Franky muttered.
"Don't screw with me!" I demanded, "Who did it?!"
"At any rate, raise it back up!" Zoro ordered. "It'll throw the ship off balance!"
The hatch to the channels opened, with nobody beside it. I stiffened looking at the crew. "Did someone touch that?" Franky asked.
"No," Sanji answered, shaking his head. "Nobody went near there."
I gripped my daggers harder, looking around for the enemy. My hand gave a slight tremor. Perhaps I was a little more afraid of ghost than I thought. Instead of anything attacking, Luffy's cheeks started stretching.
"Luffy!" Sanji yelled in annoyance. "What the hell are you doing?! This isn't the time for games!"
Luffy shook his hands. "No, vit isn't me! I'm vot doin' vis!" His cheeks snapped back, sending him to the ground. Just when I was starting to think Luffy was being childish one of Zoro's swords was sent through the air.
"Luffy!" I shouted, summoning enough air to knock the sword off balance. Instead of hitting Luffy, it stabbed the ground beside him.
Franky turned to glare at Zoro. "Hey punk! What was that about?!"
"I'm sorry! My sword sprang out..." Zoro trailed off uncertain.
I inched closer to Robin. "This is not okay." I looked around, "We're not alone on this deck."
Zoro reclaimed his sword as Luffy stood up. "Thanks for the save, Katsu." Luffy grinned, dusting himself off.
I nodded towards my captain, "Don't mention it."
"Was it a ghost after all?" Franky asked, "Or was it some sorta physic?"
"Or an invisible person." I added, then quickly shook my head. "Nah, it's a ghost."
"I could feel someone touching me." Luffy informed us.
"I think I heard the sound of a beast growling just a second ago." Robin added.
Appearing impatient, Sanji made his way towards the railing of the ship. "ANyway I'm worried about Nami-san and the others." I raised an eyebrow, was he really worried about Chopper and Usopp? "I'll let you deal with the ship!"
"You're gonna swim all the way there?" I asked.
Just as he jumped over the railing, something went wrong. Somehow, Sanji ended up face planting the side of the ship. If I didn't know him, I would have thought Sanji was a special kind of klutz.
"That was lame!" Zoro, Franky, and Luffy shouted. I sighed and gave a small nod in agreement, even if it wasn't his fault it wasn't one of his best moments.
I paused, blinking as I saw Sanji floating in the air, hanging upside down.
"How's he doing that?" Zoro asked, around the same time Sanji started going around in circles. It looked like someone was swinging Sanji around my his leg.
"Gah!" Sanji cried out as he face planted the ground beside Zoro. I snickered at the sound that came from Sanji.
"You said 'Gah'." Zoro raised an eyebrow, his voice monotone.
Sanji recovered quickly enough to stand up and yell at Zoro. "Shut up! Why don't you give it a try?!"
My eyes widened when sometime wrapped around my waist. "Huh?" I blinked, trying to push it away. Feeling breathing beside my face, I turned my head away from the person.
"Stop." I closed one eye as I pushed, this person had a decent amount of strength.
"Katsu-chan?" Sanji muttered, everyone's eyes landing on me.
"Its got me." I answered, my body freezing when I felt a tongue go from my neck to my cheek. I paled as I tried to push harder.
"How dare you have your way with her?! Sanji yelled, running only to trip.
Using a free hand, I pulled a dagger and managed to get the person to let go. Though, they had managed to tear the bandage on my arm. My eyes widened as the marine brand showed, though my fast instincts helped cover it quickly. I'm sure nobody saw it.
In inched a little closer to the wall behind me. When my back met the wall, I kept my defenses up. At least with my back against the wall I know nobody will be able to sneak up on me.
My attention was brought back to my arm. I don't have a chance to bandage my arm right now, so I have to keep one hand occupied covering it. There was no way I was going to show my crew this mark. Who knows what they would think of me.
The ship rocked violently. With my free hand I held it against the wall as I tried to keep my balance.
"W-What's going on?!" Luffy demanded.
"Look!" Our attention was brought to Franky, who was pointing towards the sea. "Waves are doing that! Unnatural waves are forming inside the fence."
My balance was set off, sending me staggering forward. I braced myself to hit the ground. Though, apparently recovered from his trip earlier, Sanji caught me before I could face plant the ground.
"Katsu-chan, where is he?" Sanji asked, helping me regain my balance.
I let out a breath, "I think he's gone now." Though I wouldn't have minded kicking in a few teeth, assuming the perv had any teeth.
Sanji's eyes landed on my arm, where my hand covered the brand. His face morphed into anger. "Did he hurt you?"
I blinked, then quickly shook my head. "No-"
His hand clasped over my wrist. "Let me see it."
My mouth ran dry as he removed my hand. He froze, his eyes staring at the brand on my arm. Looking at me he blinked, "Katsu?...." He raised a curly eyebrow.
I snatched my hand away from his grasp and covered the mark once more. "Long story. I'd rather not tell the whole crew yet." I didn't miss the hesitation in his eyes, which prompted a little pleading. "Please Sanji. I'll tell you later, but you can't tell anyone else. They'll..." My voice trailed off, and I found myself looking down at the ground.
Sanji's eyes softened and his hand landed on my head. "I can't ignore a lady's plea. Don't worry, Katsu, we'll talk later."
"Oi, we need to raise the anchor!" Zoro ordered, running past us. "We can't set sail like this!"
Putting some space between Sanji and I, I looked towards the island. With choppy waves we were getting farther from the island.
"Damn," I muttered, "My devil fruit powers won't help, especially with my lack of control." I was sure that if I actually had full control of my devil fruit powers I would be able to stop the waves. However, there were still so many aspects of my fruit that I didn't understand. Especially since logia types can turn their body into that element, yet I can't turn my body into air.
While my crew started raising the anchor and steering the ship closer to land, I made a quick stop by my room. My first priority was wrapping my arm. The next was weapons. I had three daggers currently on me. I wanted to make sure I had enough weapons to fight with before we get stuck on the island.

End Chapter 15! How was it? I think this was a pretty long chapter, it had well over two thousand words anyway... There's going to be a new OC joining soon! I'm super excited to add him too! Anyway, what are your thoughts on Katsu's devil fruit? Does she just need more control over it? And Sanji saw the marine mark on her shoulder, any thoughts towards this?
This is not edited.
