prophecy
noun ~ a prediction
"Nova?" Aldren was nearby.
I opened my eyes, blinking back the bright light as it met my eyes. I was horizontal, my back against a soft surface. Above me was Aldren but I could see the panicked eyes of Charlie at my feet and Pollux crouched beside me.
"Nova?" Pollux called my name and I blinked back up at him.
"Where am I?" I mumbled.
"On the sofa," Aldren replied.
I looked around, noticing I was still in the library. I lifted my head slightly, to rest against the sofa more comfortably.
"You collapsed," Aldren stated before looking down at my torso.
I frowned, following his gaze to find the green book still clasped in my hand. I ran my thumbs along the uneven leather of the case, fiddling with the hessian string that held it together.
"You wouldn't let it go, even comatose." He mumbled. "You need to look after yourself."
"I had a vision when I touched it." I sighed. "I saw our grandmother and Angela. It was a gentle vision, nothing bad happened."
His eyes widened slightly but it was Charlie who spoke, his voice panicked.
"So you scared me and nearly got me in trouble for a gentle vision?" He shrieked. "I thought you had heart failure or something! You seized up."
I blushed, licking my lips as I started to sit. Pollux's hand came to support my back and I thanked him with a smile.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know I was going to have a vision. " I mumbled.
Charlie sighed, shaking his head. "I know. I just freaked out. You scare me."
My heart swelled at his confession, his dishevelled hair confirming his stress.
"Want to talk about the vision?" Aldren asked.
I nodded and he came around from the back of the sofa to sit beside me. Pollux remained on the floor, Charlie stood at the foot of the sofa as I told them of the vision. They were silent, frowns on their faces as I stated as much as I could remember. It was a strange vision, nothing really happened in it apart from a gentle conversation.
"So...this book...you will be able to understand the code?" Charlie wondered.
I shrugged, running my fingers along the blank cover. "I guess. Why else would I have a vision? She said so herself, it is for her generations to discover."
"Well, you better get reading." He chuckled. "Are we telling Phoenix about this or..."
I laughed slightly, "I will tell him, scaredy-cat."
He rolled his eyes but his shoulders sagged in relief. "Ah good, so you can be in trouble and not me."
I swung my legs around the sofa and cupped the book in my hands. "I'm going to open it."
Aldren hummed. "I have read this book a few times and I only understand Latin. If you understand the code... Then we may be onto something."
I nodded, understanding the severity of this. If I understood the code, I would be able to know more about my gift, and potentially other things that my grandmother spoke of. I mean, I had her wolf's spirit, there has to be more to this book.
"We will leave you to it." Pollux smiled.
"Okay, thanks, guys." I nodded, watching as they left the room.
Only Aldren remained and he eyed me curiously.
"What's up?" I asked.
He raised an eyebrow. "Up?"
I giggled. "What's on your mind old man?"
His eyes narrowed at the nickname. "I was wondering if there was a deeper meaning to the vision. Why only you received it and not me. I have held that book many times, read its pages to memory with your mother."
"Could my mother read the code?"
He nodded, pursing his lips. "She could. She didn't have it long since it was hidden well by our grandmother. I don't know how she came across it, she kept that to herself. She never told me the contents of the code either. It wasn't until she passed, that we sorted out their belongings and I found this book. She hid it well, but the fire had destroyed everything. This book survived, so I assume with that being said, and you having a vision, it must be spelled."
I hummed, suspicious suddenly of Aldren. Was this book the only thing he took? Why could he not read the code? Was something wrong with him? He has the vision sight, and our grandmother said this book was for those like her so...why not him? Why did my mother not tell him of the code?
Although... Perhaps it was due to Celimene, maybe she would be the one who could understand it?
"Deep in thought?" He asked, snapping me out of my trance.
I hummed a yes. "Just thinking about what this book could be about."
"You and me both." He chuckled. "I'll be over there if you need me."
I nodded, "Okay. Thanks, Aldren."
His heavy footsteps filled the room, the creaking of the chair he sat on met my ears. I stared down at the book in curiosity, as the sounds of Aldren humming and the clock ticking drifted from my ears. I ran my fingers along the pages before pulling the tie out of the way. I fiddled with the pages before finally giving in and opening the cover.
The first words I recognise were in big cursive letters, created with dark ink. It had not faded, the pages relatively neat considering its age.
Celimene. I mumbled, reading the words to my wolf. Writings of myself.
My wolf grumbled, coming forwards in my mind as we stared at the otherwise blank page. I licked my lips nervously before turning once again. The words before me were not of my language, and although I struggled reading English with my lack of schooling, these words were perfectly eligible.
To whoever is reading,
This book is tales of my past and visions of my future. If you have this book, know that you hold great knowledge in your hands.
Beneath the greeting, was mumbled letters, all mixing and not making any sense. Celimene bristled in curiosity and I allowed her through, wondering if this is the code Aldren spoke of. She took over, and I knew my eyes would be glowing in the darkening room.
Suddenly, the words unjumbled themselves, and just like that, they made sense.
Celimene... I breathed, uneasy.
A low growl escaped her, filling the silent room. I saw Aldren glance up at me from where he sat but did not respond to his wonder.
If you can read this, know that what I am about to share with you, in this code is confidential. If someone cannot read this, do not trust them. If you are reading this, then you are a part of me that is important. This book has a gift, a magical component so I can be assured that only those who are worthy may read my code.
I swallowed harshly before turning the page.
I have seen the future.
My dear daughters, you shall go through much peril. Know that the time you receive this book will be the right time. This book shall appear in your life when you need it most.
My daughters, your life is already so full, but there is still so much more to discover.
Within this book, I have written in Latin, so those who are not worthy of such will not receive the information I am about to tell you. This is for only you, my daughters, do not share this code with anyone. Not even your mate or your children.
I felt the hairs on the nape of my neck go rigid with tension, the severity of this entire book was weighing deeply on me. I turned the page, ignoring the first page of Latin to focus solely on the code from Celimene.
There is a prophecy.
Derived from my blood.
Our Moon Goddess shared this prophecy with me as I graced Earth. And now I will tell you, my daughters.
In many years, there will be great peril. My children, you shall not survive if you do not protect yourself.
I have seen many creatures on my travels, but one I have not had the unfortunate circumstance to meet. One of greed and hunger, who will want to be on top. Then there is another, and they will join forces and it will bring destruction to our world. Other races will try to aid them, but many shall not stick by for the prophecy states that they will perish.
But this will never happen if the Lycan race continues. We live for so long and we are more powerful in our own ways that they will never stand the chance. We must stick together, find those will be by our sides.
They will try to take us down, to drain us for their own gain. We must nb not let them. We are nature's gift, we bring life, and peace and those that seek to destroy us shall never succeed. But they will try their hardest.
I have had two visions of this prophecy.
It states that the Lycan's will always be the higher species. As we connect with other kinds, we shall become stronger as we learn. The enemy has heard of the prophecy, and one of our kind becomes a traitor. They work with them, so be careful with who you trust. I cannot tell you who the traitor is, for the future, I see if I do, does not go well for us.
The Hala family, connected to the moon herself, we must keep an eye on them. There is a future in which none of them survives, and this cannot happen. The enemy seeks to destroy us, and they will start with them. They are the most connected to our Goddess, do not let them fall.
The Cyrus family, most connected to the sun, we must keep them from swaying into the darkness. They are eager to turn a blind eye, but we need to keep them on the right path. They do not like to be involved and would rather keep to themselves. And us, the Terra, most connected to the earth we walk upon. We must stay grounded, and always do what needs to be done.
You can feel it, deep within you, who to trust. It is a part of you as it is me, do not sway against it. For your wolf will guide you.
There are those who will destroy us. We cannot let them. Out of all the visions I have had, only two are the most likely.
If you fail, you will know what to do
Protect the future.
Stay strong.
Within this book, you will find all the answers you need.
Protect your gift, be careful.
Do not trust even your closest friend unless your soul allows you. Trust in your sight.
I leaned back into the sofa, a heavy sigh escaping me as the weight of the first few pages weighed on me. I stared at the words written, confusion filling me as I thought it over.
My grandmother said to not trust anyone; only those my soul allows me. What did that mean?
I closed the book gently, trailing my eyes upon the neat and tidy cover. The prophecy. I had so much to learn.
"Discover anything?" Aldren called from the other side of the room.
I blinked up at him, Celimene drifting to the back of my mind. The words on the pages turned into a mess once more and I sighed. I looked to Aldren, noticing the tension on his shoulders. I couldn't trust him, knowing he could not understand the code was concerning to me.
"No," I mumbled. "It's all Latin and doesn't really say much."
He sighed, shaking his head. "The code?"
"I...I don't understand it. It's all backwards letters and numbers..." I frowned, staring at the pages.
I mean, I wasn't lying. Right now, I didn't understand it. The Latin on the pages only spoke of a ghoul encounter that our grandmother had, of how she saw them living for a long time and sucking souls away. I would have to be careful with my words, to not slip up.
I needed to know if I could trust Aldren. But first, I needed to read more of this book, to understand my gift.
