The Lost Frying Pan
The following day...
I was walking down the corridor with a stack of papers in my hand. Ludwig had to deliver them to Mr. Roderich but suddenly got an urgent call from his boss and had to go meet him. So I offered to deliver them myself.
After yesterday's warm welcome, I felt more cheerful and glad to be back. The sky outside looked brighter than usual too. Faint chirping of the birds matched with the pleasant weather outside.
"A perfect day," I thought, smiling, while light-heartedly humming to myself.
I had almost reached Mr. Roderich's room which was right around the corner, when something caught my eye.
Miss Elizabeta was outside her room, looking for something in the homeplant by her doorway. She carefully pulled the stem aside and peered in.
I watched in confusion and decided to go ask her.
"Is there something wrong, Miss Elizabeta?"
The Hungarian woman let out a shriek before looking back and noticing me. She let out a sigh of relief when she saw it was just me.
"Yes, dear. I was actually searching for something," she said while getting up.
"May I help you? What was it?" I asked her.
"W-Well..."
She averted her gaze and nervously smiled. "I was actually searching for my frying pan," she laughed.
"Frying pan?" I looked at her, surprised.
She nodded.
Come to think of it, Mr. Roderich did once mention about Miss Elizabeta always carrying her frying pan around with her. Was it that important?
"Umm, if you don't mind me asking, was that frying pan important to you?" I asked, frowning with concern.
"Oh no! Not at all! I just keep it with me for emergencies," she waved her hand in front of her.
Her eyes then landed on the papers I was carrying.
"Where are you taking them?" she asked.
I suddenly realized that I was supposed to give them to Mr. Roderich. "Oh! I almost forgot about this! I am bringing them to Mr. Roderich on Ludwig's behalf," I told her.
"Mr. Austria? Then I will come with you," she beamed.
"Sure," I smiled.
We walked towards the Austrian man's room which wasn't too far from Miss Elizabeta's room.
"Miss Elizabeta, do you often go to see Mr. Roderich in his room?" I asked her.
The wavy-haired woman turned a dark shade of crimson in the cheeks and stammered. "W-What? I-I...w-well...not always..."
She lowered her head while still blushing deeply.
I softly giggled looking at Miss Elizabeta like that. "Oh, here we are."
We stood in front of Mr. Roderich's door. I went up to it and knocked. A few moments later, the said man opened the door.
"Good afternoon," he smiled.
Then his eyes fell on a still blushing Miss Elizabeta standing behind me.
"Miss Hungary, you're here too," he said.
I noticed his gaze somehow softened on seeing her.
"Y-Yes, Mr. Austria. I met (Y/n) on her way," she shyly replied.
I turned to Mr. Roderich and handed him the papers. "This is all Ludwig gave me," I said. He checked some of the papers on top and smiled.
"Thank you very much for your help," he gave a small bow.
"It's my pleasure," I smiled back.
"Would you care for some tea? Miss Hungary and I are about to go down for some refreshments," the bespectacled man offered.
"W-Will it be alright to join you?" I hesitated since I didn't want to inconvenience them.
Miss Elizabeta clasped her hand in delight. "It would be wonderful, dear!"
I gave them a bright smile and nodded.
On our way downstairs, the Austrian man talked about the music pieces he liked to play. I intently listened to his details on all the compositions he named. Meanwhile, Miss Elizabeta seemed distracted about something.
"Hmm? Miss Hungary, where are you going?" Mr. Roderich asked as he looked back.
We stopped and I turned back to see Miss Elizabeta turning the wrong corridor.
"W-Wha-Oh!" She snapped out of her thoughts and quikly jogged towards us.
She let out a nervous laugh. "I'm sorry. I wasn't paying attention to where I was going."
"Is there something the matter?" Mr. Roderich asked her.
"Well..."
Miss Elizabeta narrated everything about how she couldn't find her frying pan in her room and searched everywhere for it. Mr. Roderich listened carefully and then finally spoke.
"That is very suspicious. Are you sure no one entered your room and taken it?"
The Hungarian lady wondered aloud. "Why would anyone want to- "
A spark of realization flashed in her eyes.
"It has to be..."
I blinked as I sensed her aura suddenly changing. As if a dark fog surrounded her, she smiled maliciously and looked straight ahead with murderous eyes.
I gulped.
"You are dead now....Here I come!!" Miss Elizabeta stormed through the corridor and jumped down the staircase ahead.
Mr. Roderich and I stood there, dumbfounded.
"W-We should go after her!" he said.
"Yes!" I replied.
Following the storming woman down towards the dining room, we spotted her running towards...
"PRUSSSSSSSIIIIAAAAAAA!!!!!"
Gilbert was sitting at the table, playing with his little bird when he looked up on hearing his name.
His face went blue as he saw who was charging towards him. "Wh-What- "
Too late.
Miss Elizabeta tackled him down from his seat and sat on top of him while pulling his collar.
"TELL ME WHERE DID YOU HIDE IT!!!" she growled at him.
"H-Hide?! Hide what?!?" he panicked.
"DON'T LIE TO ME!! IT WAS YOU, WASN'T IT??"
"What WAS I?!?!"
We finally reached them and Mr. Roderich pulled Miss Elizabeta from on top of Gilbert. He coughed while adjusting his collar.
"Are you okay, Gilbert?" I knelt beside him.
"Barely alive."
Mr. Roderich was having a hard time keeping the Hungarian woman from attacking again. "Please calm down, Miss Hungary! This isn't like you!" he finally cried out.
Miss Elizabeta finally stopped.
The Austrian country sighed and made her face him. "It isn't like you to get mad at such trivial things. Let us forget about this. Tomorrow we will go out together and buy you a new frying pan. How does that sound? Forgive Prussia this time," he calmly said.
"Forgive me for what?!?" Gilbert yelled out.
"Mr. Austria..." Miss Elizabeta whispered.
A sound of whistling suddenly interrupted the atmosphere. Feliciano came out the door in a happy mood.
"Ve~ Ciao, everyone! I'm making pasta today. Would you like to join?" he smiled as he lifted the saucepan that he was carrying to show us.
"Wait! That's my frying pan!" Miss Elizabeta pointed.
Our eyes shot over to Feliciano who looked pleasantly confused. He tilted his head in confusion but then suddenly realized.
"Oh this? Ve~ I wanted to make pasta today but after that party, I couldn't find any clean saucepan to make pasta sauce. I tried to find something else but couldn't. Then I remembered that Hungary kept a frying pan with her, so I went to her room to ask for it."
"Then what happened?" I asked.
"Ve~ She wasn't in her room but I saw her frying pan on the bed. I was getting hungry so I took it," he smiled.
We let out a sigh. So that's what had happened.
Gilbert stood up. "And you blamed me!" he cried.
Miss Elizabeta nervously laughed. "Sorry, Prussia."
With matters finally settled down, Feliciano agreed to make pasta for all of us. Gilbert was still huffing about what happened and we laughed.
"Umm...Mr. Austria?" Miss Elizabeta turned to him.
Mr. Roderich looked at her. "Yes? What's wrong?"
A shy blush crept on the young woman's cheeks. "I would still like to go out with you tomorrow," she smiled.
Now it was the Austrian man's turn to grow red. A smile slowly spread on his lips as he gazed at her and nodded. "Yes."
"Sheesh! Go flirt somewhere else!" Gilbert stuck out his tongue.
Seeing them like this somehow made me blush too. I smiled, hoping for a happy future for them.
"Aiyah! What's going on, aru?" Yao entered the dining room and stepped beside me.
I turned to him.
"Yao?"
He looked over at me.
"Being in love is such a wonderful feeling, isn't it, Yao?" I smiled.
His amber-brown eyes went wide as a deep blush spread across his cheeks. He averted his eyes but slowly a warm smile crept on his still blushing face. "Shì."
The sun poured down its warmth on the land while the sky remained cloudless and boundless. Today was really a perfect day, wasn't it?
