The First Day of New Change

Hey guys! Here's the next chapter! Just letting EVERYONE know before I start getting "How does no one recognize him?" Devan is going to a small town school where no one knows who Devan and Collins are unless they searched them up. Okay, that's all I had to say! Enjoy the chapter!! :)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was actually here. In an hour, Devan would have to get a ride from his brother to his first day at Springfield High. The night before, Devan had come back from the trail and apologized to Collins about his abrupt exit, and the older one immediately forgave him. Soon after dinner and family activities, the tenth grader went to bed with nerves all in his stomach. What was it going to be like at a public school? Will he make a friend? Be all alone? Devan wasn't sure but he knew he had to get sleep that night or he'd be cranky in the morning.
It didn't help. Devan woke up to the sight of his brothers face two inches from him and his whole body was being crushed by the weight of Collins sitting on his stomach, "Devan, wake up! You slept through your alarm and you're gonna be late for school!" Devan was half asleep till he heard those words, "WHAT??" He pushed Collins off of on top of him and ran to his dresser, throwing clothes onto the floor to find something to wear. As he took off his shirt, Devan realized his brother was laughing behind him. He turned around and saw him holding his gut, dying of laughter. He just fooled him. The shorter Key began to get angry, "Collins! Seriously?!" The magician was now on the floor rolling around with tears across his face, "You..you--haha! You really are nervous, aren't you??"
"Well yeah because I thought I was late!"
Collins got up wiping his eyes, "Sorry bro, I had to. You have an hour till we gotta get you to Springfield." Devan groaned and plopped on his bed, "Why does it have to be so early?"
"Because it's school, Devan. Get with the program." Devan sat up and went towards the open dresser drawer, "I'm gonna put a shirt on.."
Finally within thirty minutes, Devan was all dressed, brushed his teeth, combed his hair, put on deodorant, and packed his lunch. All he had to do was have some breakfast. So he raced down to the kitchen, pulled up his chair and started to eat what his mother set out for him, his favorite, scrambled eggs and bacon. Devan loved to savor every bite, but he was counting down the minutes so he scarfed up his meal as quickly as he could. Mr. Key walked into the room and saw Devan and patted his back, "Whoa whoa! Slow down, Dev. You're eating like a pig." The young boy winced at his father's patting, "Ouch, dad watch the shoulder!"
"Oh, sorry son." Ever since Devan broke his arm and shoulder from the tree climbing mishap, it had barely healed itself so he couldn't lift weights like his brother could and he had to be careful with it when he goofs around for YouTube videos or in general. But he didn't mind it, in time it'll get back to normal, right?
Soon he was done with his food, he hopped into his brother's car and all his nerves came back from the other night. His foot started to fidget as he stared out the window. Collins noticed and was sympathetic, "Are you okay, bro?" Devan took a deep breath and leaned back, "I'm just..I don't want to make a bad impression." Collins knew the same feeling when he first went to public school, "I get it..it's rough, but you'll get through it."
"Collins..."
"Yeah?"
"What if they don't like me?" Collins look over at his brother and ruffled his hair, "Please, who wouldn't like you?" Devan looked at him with a smile, "Thanks, bro." The brothers pulled over in front of the school and Devan stared up at it with wide eyes. It was so humongous compared to home. He gulped, "Oh my gosh, I already know I'm gonna get lost." His brother chuckled, "Don't worry about it. They'll have someone to show you around."
"Okay..," Devan was still unsure but he got out of the car. Collins called out from the car, "See ya bro! And remember, if you're ever nervous, just pretend everyone's in their underwear!" The younger one rolled his eyes and laughed. That made him feel a little better, "Bye Collins!" Soon his brother drove away and his stomach was in knots again. He took a deep breath and walked into the school. His eyes wandered as he stood in the main lobby of the school, it was so big but amazing. He saw stairs and realized it was a two story school. There was a banner that said, "Happy First Day" hanging across the staircase. Oh yeah it's happy alright, Devan thought. Then a lady called to him in the main office, "Sir, are you Devan Key?" He twisted his body to the woman and nodded walking over, "Oh, yes ma'am." He walked into the room where there were a bunch of other staff typing on computers at desks. The lady gestured to him a chair and he sat down in it, "Hello Devan, I'm Mrs. Brown and I'll say for the school district it's great to have you as a new student." He smiled, "Thank you, it's great to be here."
"Wow, handsome AND proper," the lady awed making Devan embarrassed, "so is this your first time at a public school?" The tenth grader shook his head, "No, I went when I was in 5th grade but that was still a while ago." Mrs. Brown nodded, "Okay, well we are sure you'll love our district. We have many great opportunities to get our students involved. Did you already get your schedule set up at home?"
"Yes ma'am."
"Very well. You'll start your schedule tomorrow, but today you'll be following your guide around her classes today. Mary Kimbel will be here in a moment so don't get comfortable." Devan nodded and sat there for a few moments. Soon, Mrs. Brown told him to get up and wait outside the door and he obeyed silently.
As he shut the door to the office, Devan heard a squeal from behind him. He turned around and saw a girl with lopsided glasses run towards him. She jumped up and down, "OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH!!!"
"Wait, what are you-" The girl grabbed his face and studied his eyes, ears, and his teeth with her face millimeters from contact. She squealed again and hugged him around the waist while he kept his arms to his sides confused, "IT'S REALLY YOU!! I mean I thought it was you because when Mrs. Brown said I was taking a new student around the school and said his name was Devan Key I was like 'IT CAN'T BE COLLINS KEY's BROTHER, RIGHT??' But it actually is you!! It's you!!" Devan was getting squeezed to death, sort of surprised by the grip of this girl. He asked trying to be as polite as possible, "Umm..who are you exactly?" She released Devan from her grasp and grinned showing off her bright pink braces, "Sorry, I get a little excited sometimes," he could tell, "my name's Mary Kimbel, but you can call me Mae or Mare or M or just Mary, I guess." Devan noticed her complexion. She had a dorky pair of glasses and bright braces, but she had long brown hair with blonde tips and she had slightly colored skin. So not your typical nerd, but still a nerd. Although he gave a toothy smile, another new friend, "Awesome, Mare. Where should we start first?" Mary spread her arms out to the sky, "Anywhere! We can go to the Gym, Cafeteria, Auditorium, Music Room, Art Room-" Devan stopped her, "Can we go see the Art Room?" She nodded, "Of course! Followwww ME!" She pulled on his arm and started skipping ahead of him while he walked behind. What has he gotten himself into?
"...so that's how I got into this school. Anyways, I gotta say I love you and Collins's videos! Collins is amazing though with his magic and illusions, and you're cool too I guess," as usual Collins is the favorite, he thought, "But Collins is just awesome, so kind-hearted, so real and handsome..-" That statement made both Devan and Mary flush. Mary liked his brother? He knew she didn't have a shot with him since Collins was so hung up on Carla but still. Devan cleared his throat, "You like Collins?" Mary smiled again nervously, "Yeah, I've liked him ever since I saw his performance on America's Got Talent, and I can't believe you're his broth-!" Devan waved his arms out at her. He didn't want Mae screaming to the whole school his relations with Collins, then he had an idea. Devan put his arms behind his back, "Wanna make a deal?"
"OOH I LOVE DEALS!!"
"Okay, how about you don't go around saying that I'm Collins's brother and treat me like a normal teen who just transferred here, and I'll get you a chance to meet my bro?" Mary's eyes beamed and she jumped up and down, "OMG! Are you serious?? I've always wanted to meet him!" Devan turned away and started walking straight, "I bet he'll be excited to meet you too.."
"Okay then I won't say a word!" Devan smiled at that.
As they walked down the hall...or Devan walked down the hall, Mary was skipping as if she was in the Wizard of Oz, Mary pulled on Devan's wrist towards the direction of the art room and suddenly stopped. He raised an eyebrow, "What's wrong?"
"..I forgot I had to pick something up in the Auditorium! Come with me for a sec!"
"Wait Mare--agh!" Mary pulled on Devan, practically dragging him across the floor. Soon she made a tight turn into a big room that look like a theatre production. Devan breathed in as he saw the leather seats, the stage lights, and the beautifully crafted stage. The Auditorium looked enchanting. Mary looked at his expression and smiled, "It's breathtaking, isn't it?"
"Yeah.." Mary suddenly spotted someone and grinned, "Luke! Luke, come here!" She ran over and pulled on Devan's arm once again. The nerdy girl started running towards a semi built blonde dude and jumped on his back. Mary giggled pulling on the guy's hair, "Luke, meet our new classmate!" Luke turned around holding onto Mary's legs, "Okay, okay! Calm down, Marebear." Devan smirked. Those two seem so comfortable with each other. They're either related or... Luke held out his hand, "Hey, my name's Luke." Devan grabbed his hand shook it, "Devan, nice to meet ya." The blonde dude wore a shirt that read "Lights, Camera, Action!" along with stretchy looking jeans. He definitely looked like a Drama Geek, but he had a feeling they'd be good friends, at least he thought so.
"Babe, come on. Can we please go on one date?"
"Nathan, I've already said no. Can you let go so we can rehearse?"
"No, I wanna know why you won't date me.."
Devan overheard a conversation happen on the stage but didn't turn around, "What's going on over there?" This was the first time Mary looked another emotion other than happy, "Just some populars getting into drama.." Luke sighed annoyed, "It's been going on for a straight half an hour! Nathan just won't stop." Devan wanted to see the conflict erupting and turned around and saw a guy that he assumed to be Nathan trying to get the attention of a girl whom looked very familiar to him. He immediately recognized her and gasped, "Stella?"
