Devan stared at the bathroom mirror, analyzing himself head to toe. Did he look okay? He glanced at his hair and critiqued it. It doesn't look right..It's too floppy. He lifted his hands to see if he could fix it somehow...but it only made him feel worse. Devan why are you such a weirdo? How do you have a girlfriend? You're such a doofus!

"Yo, bro are you okay?"

Devan felt his body jolt up as he looked through the mirror to see Collins peeking open the door. Collins wore a white formal shirt with a grey jacket and black dress pants. He had a confident look in his stature and stood sharp. But in his eyes, he looked concerned for his younger brother.

The younger one opened his mouth to speak but flinched. It's too dumb... Collins noticed this action and stepped forward, "Why are you so stiff? We have to leave to go pick up Carla and Stella.." Devan was now hiding his face, feeling more frazzled than ever. He sighed, "I'm a mess.."

Collins was a little confused. He took a closer look at his brother and didn't find anything strange. Devan was wearing a black button up shirt, nice dark jeans and his hair looked on fleek. The older bro actually thought Devan looked better than him...what was he so worried about?

The other replied in distraught, "Bro, you look fine, why do you think you're a mess?" Devan sighed in defeat, "I just..don't want to screw this up," he slowly turned around, an embarrassed look appeared on his face, "I've never really had a girlfriend before.."

Collins was taken back. How could he have not realized this?? His brother sure caught eyes for alot of girls, but he's never had a relationship with any of them. He seemed too young back then and girls weren't his main priority. On the other hand, the older one had a few girlfriends here and there but it wasn't serious like with Carla. Is that why Devan was overwhelmed? Was he afraid to finally go out with a girl?

Collins began to process it, "And this is your first date also, isn't it?" Devan nodded while he held his chin down. The elder brother put his hand on the other's shoulder and gave a warm smile, "Dude, there's nothing to be anxious about. Think of it as a drive to dinner at a restaurant with your big bro and two friends. It's no big deal," Devan finally meets Collins's eyes, "I'm here for ya, Dev. If you clamp up, just give me a signal and I'll help you out."

Devan began to smile with relief. He really had a way of calming him down. "Thanks bro," he said as he began to calm down. Collins replied, "Don't mention it, now we should probably head out or we'll be late to pick them up. Are you ready?" The younger Key twisted around back at the mirror, scanning it lightly and then smiling, "Yep, I think I'm good." Soon the boys headed out the door while the night is still young.

{Time Skip}

A half hour later, Collins and Devan picked up their dates in their car, Collins and Carla in the front seat and Devan and Stella in the back. They had music playing and light conversation but nothing too insane. Devan did notice Stella stay quieter than usual around him, deep in thought. I wonder what she's thinking about.., Devan questioned to himself.

Later, the four parked in a lot and started to walk towards the restaurant. Stella held her white scarf tightly as the air blew against her ginger curled hair. She was nicely bundled tonight, wearing a light pink turtle neck sweater, as well as leggings and black heels. Carla shivered revealing her think black dress that went to her kneels. It had long sleeves and her hair was pulled back in an elegant bun.

Carla's teeth clattered together, "Dang, it's freezing out tonight..." Collins smiled at his girlfriend, wrapping his arms around her, "It is late November, babe." She replied back, "But this is California! How is it 50 degrees here??" Collins laughed lightly, his nose growing a light shade of red from the cold.

Devan glanced at Stella whom stood silently, rubbing her arms. He frowned, looking from his brother and Carla to the girl standing next to him. Am I supposed to be doing something to warm her like Collins? I hope I'm not screwing up.. The boy looked down, intertwining his fingers into his, squeezing them.

Stella didn't reply. Devan was worried. Did I do something wrong..? Collins saw the awkwardness that occurred between them and blurted out, "Let's head inside where it's warm..." Carla agreed with a shiver, "Yes please! I can feel my face freezing in place!" Collins and Carla laughed walking ahead of the other two.

Devan also began to follow; however, Stella fingers pulled him back. He turned around to see her staring into his crystal eyes. He noticed hers began to fill with tears. Why was she crying? Devan asked cautiously, "What's wrong?" Stella shifted her head away and then back to show a tear slipping from her eye. This made Devan further worried. What could possibly be happening to her?

"Hey are you guys okay?" Collins called from the other side of the parking lot. They finally realized the couple wasn't following them and stopped to check what was up. The younger Key looked back at his brother, "Uh...Stella and I will meet you two inside." Collins realized they needed some time alone and nodded, "Okay, we'll order an appetizer." With that, Carla and Collins walked inside, leaving the other couple standing there.

Now that they were gone, Devan turned fully to Stella and gave her his full attention, "Now tell me what's wrong Stella..." The girl let her lip quiver, holding her boyfriends hand tightly, "Am I only someone to fall for?" Devan was confused immediately, "What?" Stella sighed, "Every person I try to let into my life either thinks I'm a spoiled brat or falls for me! Is the only good trait about me my appearance? Is that why Annabelle was my friend? Because she was attracted to me?? She wasn't my friend for my personality or that I was nice or—?"

"Whoa whoa slow down!" Devan said in a hushed tone. Stella was shaking from the cold and from being frazzled. He began to wrap his arms around her as she leaned into his chest and cried. Her heart was pounding into Devan's, feeling overwhelmed and stressed. Dev started to whisper to her, "It's okay, everything's okay..." and Stella still splurged her feelings out in the open, "Annabelle came over to my house and when I told her that we finally are a couple, she got mad at me! And then it got even weirder and she kissed me on the cheek! How is that supposed to make me feel?? That she only saw me as a prize to be won by persuading me to turn away from you just because she liked me?? And even Nathan! I don't wanna be just overlooked or only known to be pretty!"

For a while it was just silence between the two except the whimpers of Stella, resting her head on Devan's chest. The young man rubbed her back and began to say, "You know from me that you're undeniably beautiful...but there's so much more to you than that." Stella looked up and Devan as he wiped the tears from her cheeks, "Don't cut yourself so short, Stella."

That's when the girl began to smile the first time that night, "You're amazing, you know that?" Devan held her by the waist with a shrug, "You're better." The two shared a long lingering kiss that sparked a flame where the didn't bother them anymore.

They looked back at each other with a smile. Devan nudged her in the side playfully, "How about we go inside and have some food?" Stella giggled at him as he pecked her cheek, "That'd be lovely, I'm starving!!" The two laughed and they headed inside together.
