Chapter 1

Freya Wilson...

That's me. Weird name right? My father used to tell me it was pretty and original. I'm not sure I believed it was either of those things.

"Freya!" a voice I could recognize from anywhere rang through the hallway. My best friend since forever had always found a way to bring attention to us.

"Freya! Wait Up, just because you want to be a loner doesn't mean you have to walk to all your classes by yourself"

"Hey Kar" I said continuing to walk.

"First day of school and you're already forgetting this is going to best year of our lives!" she exclaimed.

"Yes Karmen because the last few years have been so exciting" I said flatly.

"It has been for me, Maybe if you'd stop being such a party pooper all the time." She said as she quickly slapped the side of my arm.

"Look at you! obviously your last three years were great miss cheerleader" I said in a quite offended tone.

Karmen wasn't one of the "populars" but she also wasn't an "outsider" like me. She had quite a few friends actually, though she definitely made a point to pay attention to me more. One of the reasons why I loved her. She had the most gorgeous long brown hair. She never failed to surprise me with a new hairstyle. Her gorgeous blue eyes were where a lot of her natural beauty came from. She's taller than me at about 5'7 while I'm an average 5'4. She was wearing the most fashionable outfit, as always, with a floral patterned yellow off the shoulder blouse, and a decently short pair of light jean shorts. Tying her whole appearance together a pair of high end sunglasses pushed up keeping her long hair back.

"Oh would you stop. You're gorgeous. Just put yourself out there silly, and maybe you'd make a friend or two" Karmen said in a sincere voice.

"Oh yeah, I forgot you weren't my friend" I said, adding in my signature eye roll.

"Oh whatever Frey. You know what I meant" she said rushing us into Mr. Eldridge's class. English was one of my favorite subjects. I liked expressing myself through something we can all relate to, literature. I sat in the very back row as did Karmen, sitting on my left. The room was mostly full with students I had grown up with. I'd be surprised if they even knew my first name. There were a few new faces, but no one too out of the ordinary. We were going to be going over some old book from the late 18th century. After I heard that I mostly zoned out.

That was, at least, until there was a light knock at the door. Soon the door was opened by a kid in the front row, and entered someone I had never seen before. He stood at about 6'1 with a pair of slightly ripped dark jeans, a nice pair of Nikes, and a gray sweatshirt with a hood that came over his head. He seemed liked one of those mysterious types. The teacher didn't say one word to him about entering late, or having a hood up in school.

Soon he walked right next to my desk and was sitting to my right. Now this wasn't one of those special moments in the movies where the cute new guy chooses to sit next to me, it was the last desk open.

Nothing was said between us for the rest of class. We all sat in silence and worked on our assignments, occasionally Karmen would lean over and ask how to do something, but other than that it was pretty simple stuff.

---

The next few classes were easy. I mostly had study halls, since it was my last year of school. I noticed "mystery guy" In the library with me for third and fourth period. I guess he had study halls as well. Once Lunch came around Karmen was there to walk with me.

"Hey loser" Karmen said excitedly as she ran up to me from who knows where.

"Hey" I said.

"Have you seen the new guy yet?" she said curiosity lacing her voice.

"You'll have to be more specific there Karmen" I said in a bored tone as we sat down at the same table we've been sitting at for the last two years. No one else sat there so it was usually as peaceful as you could get in a high school cafeteria.

"The one that sat by you first period! Tall, handsome, mysterious!" She said in an annoyed voice like I was a five year old child not understanding something. Obviously I knew who she was talking about, but playing dumb in situations like those usually got me out of a lot.

"How do you know he's handsome? I'm pretty sure no one has even seen his face." I said quickly catching on to her previous statement.

"He just has to be!" she said then caught herself quickly "Wait! You did notice him!" She said pointing at me.

"I mean, yeah, I would obviously notice the guy I've had like three out of four of my classes with"

"Oh really?" She said curious, probably also wondering why I hadn't mentioned this before.

"Uh yeah...I have two study periods with him as well" I said nonchalantly

"Sneaky little girl..." She said slightly annoyed, but impressed with the fact I had "kept it from her" . The rest of the lunch period went by quickly as did the rest of the first week of my last year in high school.
