Chapter 5
The backyard is more like an extension to Jungkook's house. A high white fence runs around the edges and comes back around to the house. On one side sits a pool and a patio with sunbathing chairs, now trashed with empty solo cups, crushed beer cans and cigarette buds that litter the pool tiles. In the middle is an outdoor kitchen, surrounded with a bar and covered with a roof. The other side is grassy and open although the grass is covered with even more litter.
Hoseok uncomfortably walks with Yoongi's arm slug over his shoulder and Jungkook closely trails ahead of them. Jungkook opens the back gate and pushes the police tape aside.
"My backyard looks like a crime scene took place," Jungkook laughed and steps past the gate and picks up a trash bag off the fence. Hoseok looks around. Jungkook was right. Police men were scattered around collecting evidence and taking samples of left over drinks to possible find even a trace that may lead to why Yoongi acted the way he did.
"When are your parents coming home," Hoseok asked Jungkook. Yoongi trails off over to the bar and picks up a cup. "They came back early this morning."
Jungkook pads over and begins picking up empty cups and tossing them in the trash bag. One of the police officers snaps at him for disposing potential evidence.
"Were they mad?" Hoseok asks. Jungkook chuckles lightly and proceeds to clean up, ignoring the police officer's order. "Furious."
Hoseok let out a sound of understanding. "They were so mad but their face didn't seem surprised." Jungkook shrugs. Yoongi from across the yard held a cup up in the air and shouted, "I think this is my can!"
The police men look up and fixed their gaze on the beer can. They dropped what they were looking at and quickly hurried over. One of the men pulled out a bag and a glass tube. The other takes the tube and pours a portion of the remaining drink. They zip it into the bag and exchange a few words. "Take it to the chief to be deliver to the lab."
The other nods. "Yes sir."
The rest of the officers pick up their belongings and make their way into the house. Jungkook hands Yoongi a trash bag and orders to help clean up. Yoongi tosses the bag to Hoseok and goes inside to get a drink with a protesting Jungkook calling after him.
"Yoongi is a character." He mumbles and Hoseok looks up. "Mmh?"
"Hey Hobi- wait can I call you Hobi? It's cute," Jungkook places his hand on the elder's shoulder and flashes his bright bunny like teeth. Hoseok furrows his eyebrows at the sudden nickname. The warmth of Jungkook's hand on his shoulder doesn't help the cause of his cheeks to flush either. "Yeah," he breathes out.
"I wonder if Jimin left clues to his whereabouts?" Jungkook ponders. Hoseok cracks a laugh and shakes his head. "Where'd you think of that? This isn't some mystery movie."
"It could be, ever watched John Green's Paper Towns?" Jungkook pipes up. Of course Hoseok had. Jimin dragged him along to see it in theaters with Yoongi. It was the worst night for him as a third wheel. Yoongi and Jimin spent their time focusing more on each others lips rather than the screen. Untill Yoongi knocked the popcorn bucket over and Jimin ordered him to go buy a new one. That saved Hoseok's misery and the popcorn bucket became his hero that night.
"The main took off because she was tired of living the same old life and her love interest went to find her using the clues he found only to reveal a huge plot twist ending!" Jungkook throws his arms up and gestures at the thin humid outside air.
Hoseok rolls his eyes as he bends over to pick up some more littered cans and plates. "I don't think Jimin would be dramatic enough to suddenly go missing," Hoseok states. He had known Jimin for years, meaning since early grade school. If anything, if Yoongi pissed Jimin off so bad to break up with him, he would of dragged Yoongi to the school's court yard and told him. But something seems wrong. Jimin and Yoongi were perfectly fine, aside from Jimin picking about Yoongi's bad habits, so why now?
"I don't know Jungkook," Hoseok doubts. Jungkook stayed silent for a moment before snapping his finger in the air. Hoseok flinches at the action and groaned when he realized Jungkook just came up with one of his legendary ideas that will probably mostly flop in the end.
"We could get permission from the Park's and search Jimin's room for clues." Hoseok groans because his predictions were right about a plan arising. "Jungkook we don't even know if he left clues."
"We have to check to find out," There is no point in pressuring Jungkook. Hoseok opened his mouth to reply when Yoongi stepped out from the house with a glass of lemonade in his hand.
"Jungkook, your mom makes the best lemonade- wait check what to find out?" Yoongi opens his mouth to take another sip but his mouth missed the straw. He looks down and guided the straw to his mouth. Hoseok stared blankly because of how cute Yoongi looked when trying to take a sip. Yoongi pulls one eyebrow up in amusement and Hoseok didn't even notice him staring back.
"Searching Jimin's room," Jungkook blurts. Hoseok snaps out of it and averts his eyes to the ground, knowing he has been caught by Yoongi who laughs. "Sure i'll give Mrs. Park a call, and maybe she will make us some brownies."
Yoongi sets his drink down on a near chair arm and pulls out his phone. He opens the contacts and presses on 'Minnie's Mom" contact and holds the phone to his ear. After a couple rings, there's a "Hello Yoongi," Yoongi smiles and walks away to hear her more clearly. Jungkook snickers beside Hoseok.
"Hoseok, we should go out sometime," Jungkook suggests. "What do you mean?"
Hoseok knew what was coming. Jungkook is interested and he wants Hoseok. Too bad for Jungkook, the other wasn't interested. Or he thought. His feelings were a puddle for his friends after all the events he was dragged into. Also his mind flashed to the party when he kissed a drunk Jungkook, though the younger doesn't seem to mention or even recall it happened.
"I mean," Jungkook shifts closer. "I want to take you out." Hoseok freezes when he feels a hand grab his butt and the younger smiles. "M-maybe," the flustered boy managed to reply.
Yoongi comes back, cell in hand. "Mrs. Park says it's alright," Jungkook claps his hands together in excitement. "When should we go?"
"Tommorrow." Yoongi replys "They're currently out of town as we speak."
A police officer approaches the group from behind and taps Yoongi on the shoulder.
"Sir."
"Yes officer?"
"May I see your phone?" The officer asks. Yoongi is taken aback. "For what do you need my phone for?"
The officer sighs at Yoongi for being slightly difficult. "We need to look through Jimin's and your messages to see if we can find any conversations you had when you weren't aware of his disappearance at the time." Yoongi stares. His mind goes to the many past messages he had sent Jimin, and some of them even included pictures.
"Oh, right." Yoongi gulps. He shuffles his cell in his hands and the officer gives up and grabs it.
"Thanks, you can pick it up at the police station later tonight." Yoongi closes his eyes and lets out a long breath. Jungkook snickers behind him and Hoseok just plainly stares between the two.
Jungkook is the first to speak. "Aye Yoongi, what kind of messages did you and Jimin have?"
"Shut up Jungkook." Yoongi hits him on the shoulder and high tails it out of the backyard. But before leaving, He turns to Hoseok and grips his elbow. "Let's go dork."
"Bye Hoseok!" Jungkook waves as Yoongi makes Hoseok walk out of the backyard. Yoongi drags him to his car and orders him to get in. "Where are we going?"
Hoseok looks up from Yoongi's passenger side where he was tossed into. Yoongi pauses for a moment, looking down on him. "My house."
Yoongi slams the door shut and makes his way around to the drivers side. He hops in, sticking the keys in the ignition to make the car come to life.
"You might want to buckle up." Yoongi says.
Hoseok doesn't have time to register. The moment Yoongi steps on the gas petal, is the moment he regrets even getting in the car with Yoongi. But it's not like he had a choice anyways since Yoongi basically dragged him. The car thrusts foward and off the curbs and onto the road. Hoseok flys and puts his hands out in front of him. He catchs himself on the dash. Yoongi makes a noise and slows down. The other boy sits up and crambles for his sealt belt and bukles in quick.
"Jesus Yoongi," Hoseok feels breathless and chest heavy from his heart pounding. Yoongi does not reply and only snickers.
The next few mintutes pass and the car is silent between the boys. Yoongi focuses on the road ahead of him while Hoseok looks out the window watching the many town houses. His finger fidget in his lap, a habit he had developed ever since all this mess started. The silence between the two was too thin and they both knew. Yoongi begins to hum a small tune while he taps his fingers on the steering wheel. Hoseok shifts he's glaze from the window and onto the boy. He studies Yoongi's profile and never really had the chance to make out his features.
Yoongi's lips are pressed together in a thin line. Ever so often his nose scrunches up and wrinkle. He is still humming soft tunes and Hoseok just openly stares. They are on their way to Yoongi's house, riding in Yoongi's car without Jimin for the first time. Yoongi hasn't seem to throw Hoseok his usual insults. Hoseok is terrified but yet to still be at ease.
"It's rude to stare." Yoongi says blankly, eyes still on the road. Hoseok jumps. He didn't realised he had zoned out on Yoongi's face. His cheeks flush. "I zoned out, okay." he mumbles. Yoongi simply smirks and the silence returns. Yoongi presses a button the radio and music feels the background.
"Are you nervous because of me?" Yoongi says mintutes later. "Why would I be nervous?" Hoseok was nervous in fact. He could feel the heat from his cheek expand and begin to bite the inside of his cheeks. "Because we both know you have a crush on me."
Hoseok heart stopped. He didn't know if he was mortified about the fact Yoongi knew, or that fact the truth was out. Yoongi snaps a quick glance at Hoseok. Oh the boy was finished now.
"W-why would you think that?" Hoseok stumbles over his words and curses loudly to himself in his head. "Jungkook told me," Yoongi flashes a smile. 'Damn it Jungkook' is all Hoseok can think right now "Don't get your hopes up now though, because I don't like you back."
Hoseok huffs and crosses his arm over his chest. "I don't like you."
"Why?" Yoongi pulls into his driveway and parks the car.
"Because you're offically a certified asshole." Hoseok comments.
"I wasn't one before?" Yoongi picks at him. "No you were just a dick, but now you have been promoted to an full asshole. Congrats." Hoseok laughs and unbuckles himself.
"Thanks, I hate you," Yoongi grins at him. "smiley bastard."
"I hate you too," Hoseok smiles back and gets out of the car.
