Chapter Seventeen

"Do you want to know the gender?" Yu-Jun offered with a warm smile on her face.

"No!" Yuri said, shaking her head.

Within seconds she turned from joyful to upset.

Pregnancy was supposed to be the time of baby showers, flowers and the excitement of planning for the newborn. Instead it had been miserable. When her conception was known to Jihoon they got beat and screamed at for it. Rather than being joyous it was excruciatingly traumatic.

"Okay that's fine." Jungkook signed.

"It's supposed to be happy." Yuri signed to him while tears were running down her cheeks.

"What?"

Jungkook looked up at Yu-Jun.

"I'll be back in a few minutes." She excused herself.

"What's wrong?" Jungkook asked Yuri.

"We're supposed to find out the gender and be happy! Everything about the baby is supposed to be exciting and it's all been awful! He tried to kill us, and I can't just forget that and try to be happy when I'm not. And what are we going to do now? Where will we go?" She broke down.

Jungkook felt useless, he had no answers, no words of comfort. He was just as broken as she was. Pulling her into a hug he tightly held onto her as she sobbed into his chest. He kissed her forehead and kept her close.

"In a few years we'll be happy with our baby, all of this will be behind us. It won't ever stop hurting, but it'll get better. We'll be okay as long as we stick together. I'm never leaving you no matter what."

Using his thumb he wiped away her tears.

"We don't have to find out a gender today or until the day we see the baby in our arms. It doesn't matter to me." He told her, "I just want us to be together and healthy, that's all that matters."

"I'm sorry to interrupt but I need to finish our exam, someone needs to speak with you guys."

"Okay."

She walked back in and continued the ultrasound.

"Everything looks good. You have a healthy baby- Oops I almost spilled the gender. But I hope you guys make out well."

"Girl or boy?" Jungkook raised his eyebrow.

"You're taking advantage of her not being able to hear. You'll find out when she does." The doctor snickered.

She used the machine and tried to get the perfect angle to print photos for the two of them.

"I thought you said everything was okay?" Jungkook asked after seeing her shifting the wand around.

"Pictures." She replied, pressing a few buttons on the machine.

Two identical photos of the baby printed. She handed it to Jungkook and smiled.

"I have to go." She left the room.

A few moments later an older woman walked in and sat in the doctor's stool with a large tablet in her hands, the letters so big people across the country could read it. She squinted her eyes as she read it, adjusting her classes.

"I work with the state and hospital and I need to fill out some forms for you two so just answer the questions the best you can."

"Okay." Jungkook nodded.

"So you are Jeon Jungkook, what's your birthday?"

The first question already started out hard.

"In the beginning of fall or end of summer?"

"What's the month and date?"

"Beginning of fall. I don't know my birthday. They change it- nevermind."

"Oh, okay, we can try to check records. And her?"

"March."

"Alright. Medical conditions that you know of?"

"No."

"Do either of you smoke, drink alcohol or use-"

"No."

"Are you both- Nevermind the answer is obvious." She looked at them both.

"What?" Jungkook asked, quietly.

"Are you both AcTiVe?"

"Like what like exercising?"

"No, Se-"

"Yeah." He shyly ran his fingers through her hair as his cheeks heated up. Never in his life did he think he'd have to tell someone that.

"What did she ask and what did you say?" Yuri signed.

"You don't wanna know." He replied.

"What? Tell me!"

"She was asking if we were doing the deed."

"What!? Thats none of her business!" Yuri protested.

"Well apparently it is."

"But why is she asking?"

"Some medical form. They asked a lot of random things."

"What did you tell her?"

"I told her yeah."

"Why!? Well thats why she has this judging look."

The woman watched as they went back and forth bickering.

"What was I supposed to tell her? No. You're pregnant it's a bit obvious you aren't the most innocent-"

"Shut up! Why don't you just shout it off the rooftops that-"

"Why are you yelling at me? I'm sorry!" He signed back, her overdramatic signs were the only thing he could see.

"Should I excuse myself?" The older woman asked.

"No." Jungkook said.

"Just a few more questions then we can be done."

Looking at the clock on the computer he saw it was almost 6. He pushed around the dinner that they were given, it was lifeless and quite bland but he was starved.

Jungkook put some food up to her mouth and she unenthusiastically ate it.

"Sooyoung made such good food, especially compared to this." Yuri signed to him, crinkling her nose, despising the taste.

"Yeah this food is awful but. . . What can we do?" Jungkook complained.

"I wish I could go in the kitchen myself and make us something good."

"Me too."

They finished off what the hospital liked to call food and Yuri leaned back into his side. A crash of thunder startled them, they soon her the rain pounding onto the hospital.

"I wish we had rain last night." He scoffed.

"I know right." She muttered to him.

The curtains opened and the nurse had two piles of clothes for them.

"Here you go. The doctor will be back soon to talk with you both." She told Jungkook and he nodded.

She left the room and they both stood up. Quickly changing into the clothes, they had similar grey sweat pants and then shirts with the hospital's logo. Laying back on the bed they both took off the monitors. Sick of them being on.

Laying on the bed she curled up under the blankets. Her hair was in disarray and she ran his fingers through trying to fix it. And a woman in a pantsuit followed behind him.

"Hot date you're getting ready for?" Jungkook giggled.

"I wish." Yuri said.

The curtain opened and Jungwoo walked in, look exhausted from his extended shift.

"So guys, everything looks good. You both look quite healthy and the baby is okay. Meaning we are discharging you now."

"Okay?"

"For tonight you both will have to go to foster families, and tomorrow we will figure out your permanent living arrangement." The woman intervened.

"What do you mean families?"

"On such short notice we could only get two separate homes for the night."

"No! I'm not leaving her and you can't make me! We're staying together no matter what, I'm not going anywhere without her." Jungkook raised his voice and stood up.

Yuri knew something was wrong and tried to figure out the dialogue, getting anxious seeing him react that way.

"It's one night." Jungwoo calmly said.

"Then why can't we just stay here again!?"

"Thats not how things work-"

"I don't care. I'm not leaving her."

"Jungkook," Jungwoo sighed. "I can't control the system."

"You said you were gonna help me. You lied. You can't take her and my baby away from me and send them off to strangers!" Jungkook yelled.

"Their good people, only looking to help."

"No, we're staying together!"
