One Busy Morning
Little Red was once again out of breath as she got to the Bear family's home across town, in the back of her mind wondering if there was a better way to do this. Alas, she just had to keep running back and forth for now, since it wasn't like she could get a horse or something of that sorts. The people of Eastbourne really liked to walk for some strange reason. She knocked on the door again; something she always did despite having known the Bear family for as long as she could remember.
This time, though, Papa Bear answered, seeming as if he had just gotten out of bed. Little Red wasn't surprised; Papa Bear was a teacher, and didn't have work today since there were no classes.
"Hello miss," Papa Bear said, before yawning and stretching. "Why are you up so early in the morning? It's not a school day, corect?"
"No school today, sir! I just needed to ask Mama Bear about something." Little Red said, making sure the hood of her cloak stayed on as she rocked back and forth. Papa Bear nodded and moved aside, letting Little Red walk into the Bear family's home.
The Bear family's home was just that, homely. There wasn't much furniture in the home other than what the Bear family needed, but there was color on every piece of furniture, them all being crafted by Papa Bear. Everything seemed to have life within them, with the brightly colored cushions, runners, and other fabrics that always seemed to match the furniture perfectly, despite the obvious feeling that they wouldn't work with other furniture and all of the furniture being made from the same wood. Little Red always liked that, it gave the furniture personalities, though it disturbed some whenever she described this to them.
Mama Bear And Baby Bear were in the kitchen, Mama Bear trying to get Baby Bear to eat his breakfast. Mama Bear smiled and waved at Little Red walked into the kitchen, Baby Bear getting up and running over to Little Red. Little Red smiled, hugging Baby Bear tightly.
"Hi Miss Red!" Baby Bear said, hugging back and looking up at Little Red.
"Morning Baby Bear." Little Red answered before standing up straight again, looking at Mama Bear. "Good morning!" She said to her.
"Good morning, sweetie. Did you have any luck finding that old man at all?" Mama Bear asked, walking over and trying to get Baby Bear back into his chair. Baby Bear's ears perked up at the mention of the old man. Since Little Red babysat Baby Bear often, her curiousness had rubbed off on him, and he was very curious about the old man.
"Wait, do you mean the old man that we saw yesterday? With that weird white robe? He's very very very very cool looking I wanna meet him!" Baby Bear said quickly, jumping up and down and still hugging Little Red. Mama Bear sighed.
"Only after you eat your breakfast." Mama Bear said, though Little Red knew that Mama Bear wasn't going to let Baby Bear meet the old man either way. Mama Bear was very overprotective of both Baby Bear and Little Red, though the latter was just a lost cause when it came to protecting sometimes.
"Actually, the clerk at the inn said that there's been no room in the inn for a few days, and that he had not seen an old man like the one we saw. Though, he was acting awfully weird, I think I might go back tomorrow and talk to him again." Little Red said, thinking about the strange talking of the inn clerk.
"Oh, sweetie, he was probably just drunk. That good for nothing boy always drinks on the job, it's a wonder that the inn gets any money at all." Mama Bear said, finally getting Baby Bear to sit in his chair again. She tried to get him to eat some of his porridge, but Baby Bear wanted to hear more about the old man.
"What was the old man like? Did you meet him? Was he scary? Oh, was he a wizard? Wizards are cool." Baby Bear said, leaning up on the kitchen table.
"I have no clue about really what's going on with him, he was really strange, and said some weird lies." Little Red said, not really knowing how to describe the old man at this point. She didn't see him for very long, and the time that she did see him, he was just really, really weird. "And drunk? What does that mean?" She couldn't wrap her head around someone acting weird from drinking too much water, or even tea.
"You've never seen someone drunk before, kid?" Papa Bear said as he walked into the room, still seeming very groggy. "Basically there's certain drinks, like wine, that make people act funny when they drink too much. Not all drinks do that, though. Just, if someone hands you a drink and they call it a name you've never heard of, chances are you shouldn't drink it."
"Oh, okay." Little Red said, still not getting how drinking too much of something could make you act weird.
"Anyway, we'll look for this old man later, you shouldn't be bothered by it. The adults will take care of it, like we always do. Now, just go and do whatever you normally do when we're not bothering you with this kind of thing. And, Baby Bear, if you eat your porridge, you can go join her." Mama Bear said. Little Red nodded and left, though she wasn't really the happiest, not being able to help with this mystery. She had plenty of other things to do that day, though, so the idea of the old man went out of her head for a while. She had to go to Hansel and Gretel's house so then Hansel could tutor her in math, much to her distaste. Then, she went to the small Eastbourne library to get a book, even though like most children in Eastbourne, she had already read all eight books that they were allowed to read. She was a fan of rereading these books, though, so she grabbed one of the available books and checked it out. Next, she went to the park, which was going to end the first half of her productive day on a normal, reading in the sunshine note.
But, people didn't want life to go that way for Little Red that day, it seemed, for just as she got comfortable and started to read her book, a woman started stomping through the park, yelling her head off and sobbing. Little Red looked up, wondering what could even be wrong. Not much really happens in Eastbourne. Really, the only thing she could think of is some kid got themselves hurt in the woods again.
"Where's my precious little Goldie?" The woman was screaming, grabbing some poo kids as she demanded answers. Little Red tried to quickly get out of there, since this was Goldilocks's mother, and she loved to pin everything on Little Red after she yelled at Goldilocks that one time. Unfortunately, she was spotted, and Goldilocks' mother stormed right up to Little Red, grabbing her by the cloak.
"You. Where is she?"
