Chapter 3: The Town of Ambermore and Izuku Midoriya
It was sunrise when the three of you packed up your camp and headed out along the winding trail of the forest. You felt much better after the healing potion Kirishima had given you. The air was warm and the breeze felt crisp against your skin. Bakugou sighed.
"Ambermore isn't far from here. We'll only be walking a couple of hours or so. So I don't want to hear any of your damn complaining, Shitty Scales!" Bakugou said, glaring at Kirishima. Kirishima pouted.
"Hey! I don't whine that much." He argued. Bakugou scoffed.
"Tch, oh please! Before we got to the meadow, you whined the entire way there!" Bakugou shouted, glaring even more at Kirishima. You chuckled at their antics. You looked at Kirishima.
"So, what is this place called Ambermore anyway?" You asked. Kirishima hummed and looked at you.
"Huh? Oh! That's right. I almost forgot that you aren't from around here, [Y/N]." Kirishima said. Kirishima smiled. "Well, to answer your question, Ambermore is a town that lies between the meadow that I found you in and the Capital City. It's sort of like a resting place between both. It's a lovely town! Plus, there's someone there that Bakugou and I both know that might be able read your Tome." Kirishima said. Bakugou growled slightly. He didn't like the mention of the person Kirishima was talking about. But it was the first step in finding out how to return you to your home world. Plus, Kirishima wouldn't stop bothering Bakugou about getting you home, which left Bakugou with no choice.
~~~
"Hmm." And of course, Kirishima was complaining. Because, unlike other times during their travels, Bakugou and Kirishima had to eat their meal on the way. Kirishima whined again. "Hmm. I hate it when we have to eat and walk." Kirishima said. He sighed as he took another bite of the dried meat in his hand. You took a bite of yours, relishing in the taste of it. "You're supposed to enjoy it when you can sit and relax, you know." Kirishima said, his mouth full. Bakugou growled, chewing and swallowing his food.
"Knock it off, Shitty Scales. You know this forest is dangerous. You want to get caught by the damn Dragon Hunters because your ass wanted to sit down and eat? And now we've got this Outsider with their fancy book that'll have bandits on our asses to. So, if you want to sit and wat, be my guest! I'm getting out of here." Bakugou growled. You frowned and looked at Bakugou.
"Hey, I have a name you know. It's [Y/N], not Outsider." You said. Bakugou scoffed and rolled his eyes.
"Tch, whatever." He growled again. "Since Kirishima was so damn insistent that we help you, we had to get an early start on getting to Ambermore because traveling in the dark, you might as well put a damn target on our backs!" Bakugou shouted. He glanced back at you. "At least you have the good sense to pick up the pace, Outsider." Bakugou said. You growled slightly.
"Mm. My name is [Y/N], not Outsider." You said. Bakugou scoffed.
"Like I care! I'll call you whatever the hell I want!" He shouted. Kirishima sighed and groaned.
"I know, Bakugou. I get it," he sighed again. "Well, at least it's not too far. I wish I could just fly us there." Kirishima said. You looked over at the red head in shock.
"Wait, did you say fly? Like, you can actually fly?" You asked. Kirishima looked at you and laughed.
"Of course I can fly, [Y/N]," Kirishima said after calming down. "All dragons can fly. Dragon hybrids like me have two forms; our human form, which is the form I'm in right now, and our dragon forms. Depending on the age of a dragon hybrid, their dragon forms are either really tall, or pretty small. I'm still considered young, even though I'm about, hmm, one hundred and twelve years old." Kirishima said. Your eyes bulged in their sockets.
"One hundred and twelve?! And that's young?!" You shouted. Bakugou glared at you.
"Keep your damn voice down, Outsider! Even though we're close to Ambermore, there could be damn bandits in these woods. Your annoying shouting and screaming could alert them!" Bakugou growled. You sighed. There was just no getting Bakugou to use your name. Kirishima looked at you, confused.
"Why were you so surprised by that, [Y/N]? Do people in your world not live that long?" He asked. You sighed and looked away from Kirishima.
"Well, I guess you could say people in my world would be lucky to even make it to one hundred." You said. Kirishima's eyes widened.
"One hundred?" Kirishima asked in shock. You could even hear Bakugou give a surprised gasp at that. Kirishima frowned and looked down at the ground. "Only one hundred, people in your world really die that young?" Kirishima asked. You stared at him in shock.
"Are you kidding me? In my world, one hundred is pretty damn old!" You said. "There have only been at least ten recorded people in my world that have lived to be at least one hundred and fourteen." You said. //This is an actual fact that I found on the internet. And no, not from Wikipedia// Bakugou hummed.
"I guess that makes sense. Humans in this world don't live to be that long either. They mostly waste their damn lives by going to dark magicians to prolong their life-span! Or they go searching for the Fountain of Youth, which, by the way, doesn't exist." Bakugou growled. He glared at Kirishima again. "And if you flew us there, Shitty Scales, you would get shot down! Do I need to remind you, again, that there are damn dragon hunters after us who spend their whole lives learning how to kill your kind! Which includes how to shoot you out of the damn sky!" Bakugou shouted. Kirishima sighed and nodded.
"Yeah, okay. You don't gotta be so mean. I just want to help in any way that I can. If I could get us there faster then,"
"Hah?!" Bakugou shouted, cutting Kirishima off. "I'm not mean! Trying to keep your scaly ass from getting killed!" Bakugou shouted. You smiled at Kirishima.
"Bakugou does have a point, Kirishima. If you did get shot down by dragon hunters, you would be breaking your promise to Bakugou. If I remember correctly, you mentioned last night that you had promise to follow Bakugou wherever he went, even if it was to the ends of the earth. And, if you did end up getting killed by dragon hunters, you wouldn't be able to get me home." You said. Kirishima looked at you and sighed, looking down at the ground.
"Yeah, I guess you're right." He said. Bakugou grunted.
"Besides. We don't need a repeat of the last time we flew over this damn area." Bakugou said. Kirishima sighed again.
"Yeah I know," he said. He then looked up. "We took care of those hunters, though. It's not like we can't fight hack. We can." Kirishima said. Bakugou scoffed.
"Tch. I doubt the Outsider even knows how to hold a sword, let alone use one." Bakugou said. You growled slightly and pouted at Bakugou.
'New mission.' You thought. 'One of these days, I am going to get Bakugou to say my name, even if it's the last thing I do.' You thought. Kirishima nodded his head.
"Alright, I get it. No flying. At least, not while we're here." Kirishima said. You hummed in thought. You looked at the swords that both Bakugou and Kirishima had hanging at their hips. You looked at Kirishima.
"You know, I would be interested in learning how to use a sword." You said. Kirishima looked at you in slight shock.
"Huh? Really? You'd want to learn how to use a sword?" He asked. You nodded.
"Yeah. That way, if we do run into trouble, you two won't always have to protect me." You said. Kirishima hummed.
"Hmm. I mean, it would be a good idea to learn how to defend yourself. It's dangerous traveling without protection of some kind," Kirishima said. He looked at you and smiled. "We could definitely get you a sword when we get to Ambermore." Kirishima said, smiling. Bakugou scoffed.
"Tch. More like a dagger. You probably couldn't even lift one of my swords, let alone use one of them." Bakugou said. You frowned at him.
"At least have some faith in me." You said.
"But I did say that you have to carry your own weight," Bakugou said. "Which means looking after your damn self," he glared back at you. "We aren't bodyguards, got it. If you're traveling with us, you gotta know how to fight." Bakugou said. You narrowed your eyes at him.
"Is that a challenge, Bakugou? Because I'm more than happy to,"
"We'll teach you." Kirishima said cutting you off. You looked at him in surprise and happiness.
"Really?" You asked.
"Hah?! The hell do you mean, 'we'?" Bakugou asked. Kirishima whined.
"Oh come on, Bakugou. Please?" He asked. You smirked slightly.
"Yeah, Bakugou, come on. You want it known that the Great Barbarian Prince is traveling in the company of a weakling?" You asked. Bakugou glared back at you immediately.
"Oh hell no!" He growled. You smirked lightly at him. Bakugou scoffed. "Tch. Fine. I'll teach you." Bakugou complied. You smiled.
"Really? Thanks!" You said. Bakugou glare at you.
"But you better be ready, Outsider. Kirishima might be patient with you, but I'm going to run your ass into the ground!" Bakugou shouted.
The thought amused him, honestly. You barley looked like you could handle mucking out a stable, let alone trying to swing any kind of weapon. Bakugou would admit that, back then, he underestimated you.
Kirishima looked at you.
"Since we still have a ways to go yet, you can use one of my short swords and I'll show you how to properly hold it," Kirishima said. With that, he unsheathed one of his short swords, holding it by the hilt and handing it to you.
"Just be careful. I keep it pretty sharp." Kirishima said. You looked at it in wonder and aw. The pommel was a beautiful silver color and the grip seemed to be made of a strong leather dyed jet black with silver weaving around it. The cross guard and rain guard were a darker silver with intricate carvings engraved into both. The fuller also had dark gray, intricate carvings on it. They were almost, dragon like. You gently ran your fingers down the fuller, making sure to avoid the edge of the blade. Just by looking at it, you could tell that the blade would be sharp enough to draw blood, should the blade touch your skin.
"Wow," you breathed. "This is beautiful, Kirishima. Thank you for letting me borrow it." You said. Bakugou sighed.
"Oi. We can't stop or we won't make it before sundown." Bakugou said. Kirishima looked at him.
"It'll just take a minute, Bakugou. Promise," Kirishima said. He turned back to you. "It's just a quick lesson. Here. I'll show you with my other one," Kirishima said. He unsheathed his other short sword from its scabbard and held it in his hand. "You want to hold it like this, see?" He placed one of his hands up near the pommel, and the other near the cross guard and rain guard, keeping a tight grip on the sword. You tried to copy his actions. To be honest, the sword was a little heavier than you had thought it would be. Kirishima smiled. "Right. Just like that. It helps you keep a sturdy grip and it makes it less likely for someone to disarm you. Now, just follow me. We're going to do some practice swings. I'll let you borrow it until we get to Ambermore. And, while we're walking, you just practice pulling it out of its scabbard, okay? Fumbling a draw can mean life or death," Kirishima said. You gulped lightly at that. "It's an important skill to learn." Kirishima took the scabbard that went with the sword you had and attached it to your belt loops so that you would have something to practice with. You took a deep breath and looked at the sword.
"Okay. Just practice pulling the sword in and out of the scabbard. Should be easy enough." You said. Oh how wrong you were.
It was one of the funniest damn things Bakugou had ever seen. It was like watching a toddler try to learn to use a weapon much too large for them. But despite you fumbling and bumbling about like an idiot, Kirishima was as patient as ever. He corrected your hold, taught you the very basics of fighting. Probably so that when you and Bakugou got down to actual training, he wouldn't eat you alive. Kirishima was always looking out for you, even back then. Bakugou gave him shit for it, but Kirishima's a loyal dragon, there for you until the end.
Bakugou sighed and rolled his eyes.
"Alright, alright. Come on, We got a lot more ground to cover until we're there. You can at least swing it competently for now. We'll train you more later. Now, come on, you two." Bakugou said, walking off. Kirishima smiled at you.
"Come on. Let's go catch up with Bakugou. He will just leave us in here if we're not careful." Kirishima said, making you smile as well. You sheathed the sword and nodded.
"Right." You said.
"Hurry up already! I think I heard monsters lurking back there!" Bakugou shouted. He was a good way up the trail from the two of you. Hearing what Bakugou said made the two of you whimper. You looked towards Bakugou.
"We're coming!" You shouted. Kirishima looked at you.
"Come on, [Y/N]. Best not to tempt fate, you know." Kirishima said. With that, the two of you raced on towards Bakugou.
~~~~
Thankfully, the rest of your trip wasn't disturbed by any hunters, monsters or bandits. The only thing that disturbed both you and Bakugou, mostly Bakugou really, was Kirishima's damn rambling the entire way there. But, the three of you finally emerged from the forest to be met with Ambermore. It was a small town, but it had seemed to have grown since Bakugou and Kirishima had been there last. Bakugou's family had stayed there when he was a child, before his Mother went onward to their territory to reclaim her Crown. And that was where Bakugou met the one that would help read the tome. Now, all the three of you had to do was find him.
As you stepped into the small but humble gates of the town, you were in aw by the different smells of different spices and foods. There were some that you recognized, and others that were foreign to you. The sounds of distant music echoed through the air. Kirishima looked around the town in wonder.
"Woah! Look at this place! It's been a while since we've been around actual civilization, huh, Bakugou." Kirishima said. Kirishima took a deep breath. "Ah! That smells so good! I'm starving!" Kirishima looked at Bakugou. "Can we get something to eat? We've been walking all day." Kirishima said. Bakugou growled.
"Shut it you dumb lizard. We'll grab something to eat just so I don't have to listen to you whine. But then we're handling the tome situation, got it?" Bakugou asked. Kirishima smiled and nodded.
"Got it!" He said.
~~~~
After Kirishima had bought food for all three of you, you were forced to sell some of your modern clothing in exchange for clothing that would help you blend in. You had bought a tan shirt, brown trousers, and some black boots that somehow fit your feet like a glove. You also got a new belt as well to help hold the trousers up and so that you could the short sword Kirishima had given you as well.
It turned out that your shirt sold for quite a bit, and Bakugou wanted some compensation for all his hard work. He glared at you.
"Oi, give me that, Outsider," Bakugou said. You looked down at the coins in your hand.
"The coins?" You asked. Bakugou rolled his eyes.
"Yes the coins, idiot," Bakugou growled. You rolled your eyes and handed him the coins. Bakugou put them in his coin pouch. "There, consider that my payment for bringing your sorry ass all the way here and feeding you, Outsider." Bakugou said. You frowned at him.
"Hey! I didn't ask to be brought here in the first place! You could at least try and use my name instead of calling me Outsider." You said. Bakugou glared at you.
"I'm not like that damn lizard! I'm not doing it out of the kindness of my heart or some shit like that! And I'm not going to call you by your damn name, Outsider, cause that's what you are. An outsider." He said. To be honest, you didn't really like the way Bakugou was talking to you. Sure, he apparently had his moments, but being called an outsider didn't make you feel very good. It made you feel like an alien. Bakugou sighed. "Now come on. We have to find out about that Tome. Follow me right into the square. And stay close to me, Outsider. Got it? Last thing I need right now is you getting lost." Bakugou said. He grabbed your wrist, not tight enough to hurt you, but tight enough to not loose you. There were so many people in the square, and, you also had to find Kirishima, who had somehow disappeared. In the crowd, you spotted Kirishima.
"Bakugou, I found Kirishima!" You called over the noise. You pointed in the direction of the male. Bakugou growled slightly and made his way towards Kirishima, pulling you along. Kirishima smiled at Bakugou.
"Hey! Bakugou, Bakugou! Can we dance for a bit? Just a tiny bit?" Kirishima asked. Bakugou scoffed.
"Gods no. I don't dance." Bakugou growled. He had let go of your wrist and had crossed his arms around his chest. Kirishima smiled.
"You don't have to know how. Just, feel the music, let yourself go a little." Kirishima said. Bakugou narrowed his eyes.
"You're not gonna get me out there. We have places to be." Bakugou growled. Kirishima shrugged.
"Suit yourself then," he said. He looked over at you. "At least let me take [Y/N] for a dance!" Kirishima said, walking over and taking your hand. Kirishima's hand seemed to fit just right in yours. His skin was warm to the touch, his scales rubbed against the bare skin of your hand. It wasn't an uncomfortable feeling, it brought you some comfort. Bakugou glanced at you. He saw the way you were looking at the crowd of dancers, like you wanted to be out there dancing. Bakugou sighed.
"Fine, just one. Be quick." Bakugou relented. Kirishima smiled.
"Yes! Let's go, [Y/N], let's go dance!" Kirishima said, leading you into the square. The crowd made way for you. Kirishima faced you, holding your hands in his. "Okay, just follow me, [Y/N]. Hold your hand out like this and press it to mine," he said. You raised one of your hands and pressed it to Kirishima's palm. Kirishima smiled and nodded. "Perfect! Now, I'm going to tuck my other hand behind my back, and you do the same." You followed his instructions. Kirishima smiled and nodded. You looked at the position you were in.
"And now we just go around in a circle?" You asked. Kirishima smiled and nodded.
"That's right! Huh, I didn't know you knew about dancing." He said. You smiled as the two of you started going around in circles.
"I know my way around a good dance or two." You said. "You should have seen me at Prom. I was all over the place!" You said, laughing. Kirishima frowned in confusion.
"Prom?" He asked. "Is that like, some ritual? It doesn't sound like an ritual I've ever heard of." He said. You chuckled and shook your head.
"Well, I guess it kind of is. Prom is a time of year, mostly near the end of the year, where students either celebrate the end of the school year with a dance. Students either are going on to be a senior in high school, or they're going to be graduating from high school and moving onto college." You explained. Kirishima hummed.
"Huh. So, it's like a ball?" He asked. You shrugged.
"Um, y-yeah, I guess so. I mean, it is a formal dance, so, I guess it could be considered a ball." You said. Kirishima hummed.
"Huh. Either way, it sounds like a lot of fun!" He said. The two of you picked up the pace and kept dancing. The crowd cheered and clapped along with the music as the two of you danced. Bakugou watched from the sidelines.
He, of course, knew how to dance, he just didn't want to make an idiot of himself in front of a whole town's worth of people. As Bakugou watched you and Kirishima out in the square though, Bakugou got an idea. Bakugou had been trying to figure out how to get the damn book out of your bag all day, but, perhaps, the dance might give him the cover he needed, if he could play it off, of course. So, after a bit, Bakugou made his move.
Bakugou walked right up to you and wrapped his arm around your waist and pulled your close to him, holding one of your hands in his. The look on your face was priceless to Bakugou, and one, he doubted he would ever forget.
Bakugou pushed Kirishima out of the way.
"Move. I'm cutting in." He said. Kirishima looked surprised as Bakugou pushed his way through.
"Uh, sure." Kirishima said, seeing as it was his turn to watch from the sidelines. Bakugou glanced down at you.
"Don't be so damn tense." He said. You blinked in confusion.
"B-Bakugou? I thought you didn't dance?" You asked, confused. Bakugou glanced down at you.
"You wanted to dance, right? So, let's dance. Just follow my steps. It's not hard." He said. The two of you danced around the square. The crowd started cheering again and clapping in rhythm with the music. Kirishima watched in amazement.
"You said you don't dance, Bakugou! Look at you go!" Kirishima cheered. He was standing a little too close to Bakugou. Bakugou growled.
"Get out of the damn way before I trample you, Shitty Scales!" Bakugou shouted, making Kirishima laugh and move out of the way. Bakugou hummed as you kept pace with him. "Huh. You're not bad at this, [Y/N], for being an outsider. Thought you wouldn't know anything about this kind of dance, but looks like you know more than you thought." Bakugou said. You blinked in surprise.
"W-Wait, did you just use my first name? Who are you and what have you done with the real Bakugou?" You asked. Bakugou growled at you.
"Hah?! I thought you wanted me to use your name! Anyways, don't get used to it, Outsider." Bakugou said. You sighed.
'And the moments gone.' You thought. It was a little hard to relax, which made Bakugou irritated.
"Relax, idiot. You're going to trip over your own damn feet. I'm not going to bite you," he said. He then leaned forward, pressing his lips close to your ear. "Unless you want me to." He said. That made a shiver go down your spine and your cheeks heat up.
It was easy enough to keep both you and Kirishima occupied with the dance. You were staring up at Bakugou in such a strange way. He'd of course, seen that look on others before. A stupid, confused, sappy expression, like you were trying to figure him out. And of course, Bakugou couldn't let that happen. So, when he had finally managed to get his hand into your bag and grab the book, he spun you back into Kirishima and took his leave before either of you could catch on. Bakugou had a book to sell.
You gasped as Bakugou suddenly spun you into Kirishima's arms.
"Woah!" You shouted. You grunted as you bumped into Kirishima's chest. Kirishima had his arms wrapped around your upper arms, your hands pressed against his toned, shirtless chest. Kirishima smiled down at you.
"Oh, hey there," Kirishima said, smiling.
"H-Hi." You greeted, still slightly out of breath. You were also trying to get your cheeks to calm down after what Bakugou had whispered to you earlier. Kirishima looked over at Bakugou, watching him leave. "He seemed like he was in a hurry to leave," Kirishima said. He shrugged and looked at you. "Well, I don't want to tire you out too much. Why don't we slip out of the commotion and head through the market over there. There's probably some interesting stuff for sale that we could look at," Kirishima said. He let go of you. "Here, take my had, [Y/N]." Kirishima said. You smiled and nodded.
"Alright." You said, taking Kirishima's hand. Something about the way that Bakugou butted into the dance like that made you a little uneasy for some reason. You decided not to think about it too much and followed after Kirishima.
~~~
While you two were exploring the markets, Kirishima had explained to you the different races in Solterra. There were dragons like Kirishima, elves of all kinds, dwarves, halflings, fey, beast men, fawns, merfolk, avians and humans of course. He had also explained that there were all kind of monsters and demons as well. As he had been dragging you through the market, there was one stall that particularly caught his eye. It was a stall selling jeweled necklaces. Dragons had a weakness for things that sparkled, after all, and Kirishima was no exception. So, after trading five of his scales, fresh and unbroken for the necklace, Kirishima lead you over to the fountain so that you two would be able to see it in the light.
Kirishima sat down beside you.
"There," he looked at the jeweled necklace and smiled. The necklace rested just above your heart. "I was right! It looks even better here," Kirishima's eyes drifted from the necklace to your eyes. "It's the same color as your eyes," he said quietly. He stared into your eyes for a few moments. "Amazing." He murmured. Your cheeks turned red again at the compliment. You looked away to try to tame your cheeks, and then looked back at Kirishima.
"Thanks for buying this for me, Kirishima. I'm sorry you had to trade some of your scales." You said, frowning slightly. Kirishima smiled and shook his head.
"It wasn't any trouble at all, honest. I thought it might help you feel a little better, being in this whole, strange new world and all. Just, don't tell Bakugou, okay. He doesn't like it when I use my scales to buy things." Kirishima said, frowning slightly. He then looked up and over your shoulder. He smiled. "Speaking of Bakugou, look!" Kirishima said, pointing behind you. You looked behind you and saw the familiar cape that Bakugou always wore. Kirishima smiled. "I'd recognize that big fur cape anywhere! He's over there by," his smile fell slightly. "By the stall." Kirishima said. Your eyes widened. The book! Kirishima looked at you, as if reading your mind. "Wait, [Y/N], let me see your satchel!" Kirishima said. You quickly lifted the satchel over your head and placed it in your lap. You quickly searched through it. You had nothing else in the bag besides that book, so it was easy to tell that the book was missing.
"The book is gone!" You said. You looked up at Kirishima, eyes wide with fear. This book was the only clue you had on how you got here, and possibly, how to get home. And Bakugou was about to ruin that chance! Hearing what you said, Kirishima growled. He glared up at Bakugou.
"Looks like he's trying to sell it. Quick, [Y/N], take my hand and tuck that necklace away, alright?" Kirishima said. You pulled the satchel over your head and tucked the necklace away. You took Kirishima's hand and the two of you raced off to stop Bakugou.
One thing about Ambermore is that, there are any number of stalls and vendors, since the town sits along one of the main trade routs. Bakugou had managed to find a bookseller, but, unfortunately, your Tome was too expensive for him to buy off Bakugou. It was frustrating for him. But, the vendor did give Bakugou some important information. That he could probably find a buyer at the Royal Library in the Capitol. If anyone had enough coin to buy a priceless Tome, it would be a place funded by the coffers of King Todoroki himself. What was even more frustrating, was that you and Kirishima caught Bakugou, when you two were supposed to be dancing like idiots in the square.
Kirishima glared at Bakugou.
"Hey, Bakugou." Kirishima growled. Bakugou froze lightly and turned around.
"Oi, what are you doing here? I thought you were in the square?" Bakugou asked, clearly trying to play it off. Kirishima didn't budge though. You frowned at Bakugou.
"We took a walk through the market. But that's not the point, Bakugou," you said. "Why do you have my Tome and what are you going to do with it?" You asked. You wanted to hear the truth from the prince. Bakugou scoffed.
"Tch, it doesn't matter. This idiot stall owner can't afford to buy it anyway." Bakugou said. He pushed the book back into your arms harshly. You looked down from the book to Bakugou. A look of betrayal filled your eyes.
"Bakugou." You said quietly. Kirishima growled and glared at Bakugou.
"You're seriously about to let your greed for coin cloud your heart like that?!" Kirishima shouted. He gestured to you. "This person needs our help and you're, just, going to destroy their chances for a handful of gold?!" Kirishima shouted in anger. You stared in slight shock at Kirishima. You had never seen him this upset before. Bakugou scoffed and glared at Kirishima.
"Tch, I gave it back, didn't I?" He asked. Kirishima's angry glare didn't lesson.
"Yes, but you tried selling it! You stole it from them!" Kirishima shouted. Your eyes widened in realization. You looked at Bakugou.
"That's what the dance was about." You said quietly. Your mind was still trying to wrap around the fact that Bakugou, the man who had said that he would help you, was trying to destroy your only chance at ever finding your way home. Without this book, you might never get to see your friends again. Without this book, you might never get to see your family again. Kirishima growled and closed his eyes. He glared up at Bakugou with even more anger.
"Sometimes, sometimes I can't believe how, how selfish you are!" Kirishima shouted. Bakugou glared at Kirishima.
"Selfish? Says the one who's always spending our coin on God's damn food at every town we hit! I'm trying to make sure we survive! And frankly, Kirishima, this outsider is only a burden on the both of us!" Bakugou shouted. That hit you like a slap to the face. Bakugou had not only called you an outsider, again, but he also called you a burden. You glared at Bakugou.
"You know, I didn't ask for this," you said, making both males look at you. You glared at Bakugou. Angry tears filled your eyes. "I didn't ask to be transported to another fucking world! I didn't ask to be transported to a world with dragons, barbarians, monsters and whatever else lives here! Without this book, Bakugou, I might never get to see my family again! You get to see your family all the time! You get to see your friends all the time! Imagine if you had sold this book. All of that would have been taken away from me!" You shouted. The tears were falling from your eyes at a rapid pace now. Kirishima sighed and glared at Bakugou.
"You, really only care about yourself in the end, don't you?" He asked. Bakugou scoffed
"You're joking! If I didn't care about you, I would have left your stupid, scaly ass to die when I raided that hunter's camp! Or, I could have just gutted you like a damn deer, hauled your sorry carcass to the market, and lived off the gold for the rest of my life! But no, I didn't! Because I care about you! Everything I've ever done has been to make sure we're both gonna be okay, Kirishima! What is it with you and this, person, anyway? Why do you care so much?!" Bakugou shouted. Kirishima froze and sighed slightly. He looked over at you and pulled you into a hug. Kirishima sighed and looked at Bakugou.
"No. You're right, Bakugou. I'm sorry. You're not selfish. I just," Kirishima sighed sadly and looked down at you, still crying into his chest. Everything you had been through the past day, the realization that you might never get to see your loved ones again, it was all catching up to you. Kirishima sighed. "I felt so, alone and helpless that day, the day you saved me. If you hadn't come along and helped me, I don't know what I would have done. It's just, I remember how it felt to be so, helpless, Bakugou," Kirishima said. He brushed his hand down your hair, trying to bring you comfort. Your tears had lowed down quite a bit, but you still refused to look at Bakugou. "The look in their eyes when I found them, in that field, they were so scared. It reminded me of myself, how I felt when I was trapped in that cage," Kirishima said. He looked at Bakugou. 'I don't want anyone to feel that way. That's why, I want to help them! I want to get them home, Bakugou. Because, if we don't help them, then who will?" Kirishima asked. Kirishima sighed and rested his cheek against your head. You tucked your head further into his chest, your sobs had dilled down to sniffles and hiccups here and there. Bakugou sighed.
"Curse you and your oversized heart. Fine, let's go then. Gotta get that stupid Tome translated. The sun's started to fall anyways." Bakugou said, starting to walk off. Kirishima sighed.
"That Bakugou's pretty difficult sometimes, but, he's got a heart. Somewhere, underneath all those sharp words of his." Kirishima said. You sniffed and sighed.
"I'm sorry." You whispered, your voice layered with emotion and slightly muffled against Kirishima's skin. Kirishima looked down at you in worry.
"Oh, [Y/N], shh, it's alright, There's no need to apologize, it's not your fault," Kirishima said. He leaned back a little bit and cupped your cheeks with his hands, gently brushing his thumbs along your cheeks, wiping away the tears. "It'll work out, I promise. And dragons don't make false promises. Come on, Let's try and keep up. The last thing we want to do is lose him again. Who knows what he'd do then." He said. You grabbed onto Kirishima's hand as he started to lead the two of you in the direction Bakugou had headed. Suddenly, something wet hit your head. Kirishima looked up. "Huh? Ah. It's started to rain. Got so distracted I didn't notice the clouds coming in or the smell of it. Here," he said. Suddenly, the rain had stopped hitting your head. You looked up and saw Kirishima's wing held over your head. You looked at Kirishima. He smiled. "Just walk close to me, okay? I'll keep the rain off you with my wing." He said. You smiled at Kirishima as the two of you started to walk on.
"Thank you, Kirishima. Although, won't you get wet?" You asked. Kirishima smiled.
"It's alright. It doesn't bother me much at all." He said.
It didn't take long for the three of you to arrive at the home Bakugou was looking for. It was as small as he had remembered it. Just on the outskirts of the town, away from the hustle and bustle. Bakugou couldn't believe he had come back here willingly, but, you needed his and Kirishima's help, and everything Kirishima said kind of, moved him a little bit. Though, back then, Bakugou would have rather taken a dagger to the chest than admit it.
Kirishima sighed.
"Wow. It's been a while since we've been back here, huh, Bakugou." Kirishima said. He turned to you, holding out his hands. "Watch your step, [Y/N], I got you." Kirishima said, keeping you close to him. Bakugou sighed.
"Sure has." He said. Bakugou started banging on the door. "Oi! Open up! We're getting soaked out here! Oi! Open up or I'll blast it open!" Bakugou shouted. Just before Bakugou could go through with his threat, the door was opened. The person behind the door was a male, maybe a little smaller in height than Bakugou. He wore a white under shirt, a green vest, blue pants and some brown boots. He wore some white gloves over his hands. His hair was grass green, and so were his eyes. The male's eyes widened.
"Oh, Kaachan? I thought it was you," the male chuckled a little bit. "Sorry, I was in the middle of an experiment." The male said. Bakugou rolled his eyes.
"Yeah, yeah. Let us in, Deku. It's pouring." Bakugou said. The male's eyes widened.
"Oh, right, right. Come on in." The male said. Kirishima smiled as Bakugou walked through the door first.
"Hi again, Midoriya," Kirishima said as you and he walked through the door. "Oh man, do we have a story to tell you." Kirishima said. He gestured to you. "Our friend here needs your help, and I think you might be our only chance." Kirishima said.
And there the three of you were. In a place Bakugou never though he'd return to. The childhood home of his rival, Izuku Midoriya. He was known as a scholar, and alchemist in the town and, despite not having any magic when he was younger, he'd picked it up from somewhere. If anyone could explain what was going on with strange, unknown magic, it would be him.
