Day & Night 2

Day 2

New morning and I decided to dig in the cavern I made by accident yesterday. With how dark it was, I mined some coal close by and I put lumps of it on sticks, squishing them together, and managed to create a torch. But it wasn't lit, obviously. Thankfully, I use some nearby sugar reeds to make paper with wood to create small 'match like' boxes that can spark the torches for me. I had a feeling they wouldn't last forever, so I may need to replace them. Camp really did teach me some good survival skills it seems; perhaps my parents meant well by sending me away every frinkin' summer and taking away my vacation...

Anyway, that's not why I'm writing. I felt a little parched this morning, but with no clean water, I  still continued with my quest to explore the cavern. Let me just say, I have a new found appreciation for fresh running water. I nearly collapsed in exhaustion from thirst, and managed to get myself to the river to slurp up enough water to keep me living.
It was awful, everything was blurry and I was going light headed with sparkles encasing my vision, but I made it. However the water wasn't clean, so I spent about the next 30 minutes or so feeling more thirsty and maybe gagging a little bit, probably even threw up the corner, I don't remember, and I don't care to.
I need to find fresh water before anything else. I know of 2 ways to purify water; Charcoal and heat. My problem: both require fire which, despite my hopes, my torches cannot produce enough heat to warm up to make a full fire or heat up the water to clean it. I can't even make a fire with the match boxes I made; as if they ONLY worked on the torches I made... Great... I can carry multiple millions of pounds of stone, wood, whatever, but can't strike a fire to a block of wood with a matchbox... go figure.
I was thinking though, that with the crafting table, I do have a massive amount of stone, and It may be useful with such a process in helping me find a way to heat up everything. My other idea was to use the sun but... it didn't work... *sigh* I don't know if I'm frustrated or depressed.

Night 2

My stone experiments worked. Using 8 cobblestone in a circle shape on the table, I made a furnace. It does work but in an odd way. I don't understand fire in this world, I didn't need to light the fire in the furnace, it just appeared after putting some coal in it. Like I said this morning, I don't know if I'm getting frustrated or confused at this place... I've just learnt to accept anything that seems weird as just a part of this world I'm in. Whatever this crazy world is...

Anyway, I went digging more and came across a small cave, that formed into some long abandoned mineshaft. Mabey I wasn't the only person here? This mine seems to prove so, There were wood scaffolds and lit torches, as well as sticky cobwebs and what looked like small cart tracks. I didn't light those torches or place those wood blocks. But this place defiantly isn't intact... lots of the tracks are missing, there's a good amount of area's where stuff would have been dug up, etc.
I managed to find iron ore however, and I came to the surface to see if I could turn the ore I found into anything useful. Pop it into the furnace and weirdly enough, it started to melt into iron ingots. This means I can hopefully make more durable and powerful tools and, as I will probably need, weapons. But this seems as if I'm acting like I'm staying here, which I'm not! I plan to leave this world, whatever decided to put me here. I Know rescue can take a while, but I probably should focus on exploring a little bit and finding any clues about how to get home while I wait... Mabey... I'm still scared of the bloody night though, worrying about those monsters. I will write more once I study this more in depth
