~8 Fight within a battle

:Okay Champ, are you ready?:

~Well duh.~ The Meditite rolled his eyes, crossing his arms as I took my position on my own side of the battle field.

With a sigh, I nodded to Milly who had taken her place on the opposite side of the field, ready for battle.

Milly nodded back, smiling brightly as she threw out her Pokémon. "Whirlpool, centre stage." She called, mimicking her early style of throwing her water type from its Pokéball.

~Poliwhirl.~ The Tadpole Pokémon gurgled as he took shape on his side of the field.

Champ rolled his eyes. ~This is going to be to easy.~

"You take the first move Paige." Milly called to me.

I nodded to show I heard, going over the moves Jake's Pokéqdex had announced the Champ knew. :Okay Champ, start with Confusion!:

My Meditite snorted before carrying out my command. His eyes glowed with a soft blue psychic energy, forming a telekinetic link with Whirlpool's aura, using it to tighten and compress on the Tadpole Pokémon.

"Shake it off Whirlpool, use... Well, Whirlpool!" Milly called confidently.

~Poliwhirl.~ Her Pokémon called in response, raising his hands in front of him as tornado of water formed between his gloved hands.

The swirly shot out at Champ, trapping him in a vortex of water. He cried out slightly, falling to his knees when it faded, water dripped from his shiny, red and white body. Standing back on his own two feet, snorting in anger as he charged in on Whirlpool his fist coated with the dark energy of a Feint without me telling him to.

:Champ, you're doing it wrong, you're meant to be doing what I say!: I called out to him but he completely brushed me off.

Whirlpool easily dodged the attack, slamming his boxing glove covered fist into his back when Champ had been caught off balance. My Pokémon cried out in pain and I quickly raised my closed fist into the air, a sign for both Jake and Milly that I wished to stop the battle immediately since my previous method was simply running into the battlefield could possibly lead to an accident. The brunette, seeing my signal, returned Whirlpool to his Pokéball as soon as Champ tried again to attack the water type Pokémon.

My Meditite was furious with the interruption to his battle, glaring at Milly and shouting words that I'd never even heard before in her direction. I raced into the battle feild, kneeling by his side in attempt to talk to my newest team member. :Champ--: I was quickly cut off when he shoved me in the chest.

~Why'd you call off the battle!?~ He yelled, furious.

The surprise from the push caught me more off guard then the strength did, making me fall back and scamper away from him as Samurai quickly appeared between us, shouting at Champ for laying his hand on me. The only Pokémon I'd ever really feared was Nicole's and Ghetsis's, any other creature I'd met I'd always loved and wanted to get to know, but I couldn't honestly say that I didn't have the slightest bit of fear towards Champ at that moment.

Milly helped me to my feet, asking if I was alright in a concerned voice. I nodded lightly, more shaken then I was hurt, watching as Gardenia attempted to break up the fight between her brother and fellow team mate, but while Samurai was more willing to drop the fight, Champ was not, throwing insults at his opponent with a disgusted snort.

It was up to Gardenia to lead away Champ while Samurai came to my side, concern showing in his ruby red eyes. ~Are you alright Paige?~

:Y-yeah, I'm fine Samurai:

~Are you sure? Nothing broken or bruised?~

:I just fell backwards Samurai, it just surprised me that Champ would push me:

~Believe me, I was just as surprised. That little thing is in so much trouble.~

:Don't start a fight Samurai, I'm fine:

~I know, but I am not having him try to harm you again.~

:He didn't try to, he was just angry. Give him a chance Samurai: I pleaded.

My Gallade was the unofficial leader of my Pokémon and was use to what he said being followed since my other Pokémon were a lot more placid in the way of taking orders then Champ was. I wanted to get along with my new teammate but until he trusted me more and I trusted him, I guess I wouldn't be able to use him confidently.

Samurai didn't say anything but he did pull a tight frown as he led me back to the room, Milly by my side and Gardenia traveling behind with Champ. I could hear the whispers of the two talking but couldn't completely hear what they were saying.

"Are you hungry Paige? It's going to be dinner time soon." Milly perked, trying to lighten the mood.

I nodded absentmindedly, glancing behind me to look at Gardenia and Champ. The two were talking softly to one another, the Meditite looking mildly annoyed while my Gardevoir seemed more understanding towards the situation. Out of all my Pokémon, I knew Champ was closest with Gardenia since she was calmer and willing to teach Champ what he was doing right and wrong in each situation.

The next... Let's just say ten minutes, went by in almost a blur as I focused of trying to figure out how I would get along with Champ. I didn't want my Pokémon to be unhappy and I didn't want them to not like me. I liked it when we were all a team, a family. I let out a small sigh, slumping in my chair as my gaze shifted to my shiny Meditite.

He was sitting with his arms folded over his chest, eyes closed with his head lowered as if thinking deeply. As usual, he was by Gardenia's side. My Gardevoir was possibly the only one out of my Pokémon he trusted as was hardly ever not by her side. I wanted to learn about him and be his friend but since he'd shut off his mind to me, it was impossible to tell how he was feeling right now. For as long as I could remember all the Pokémon I'd ever been in contact with had been open to me and those that were psychic types kept open minds. Even King, Jake's grumpy Crawdaunt, had warmed up to me fairly quickly despite being snappy at times.

A set of finger snapping close to my face brought me from my own land of thought and back to reality. I looked up at Jake, a look of confusion setting on my face. As I took in the surrounding, shaking my head to clear it.

~Are you alright Paige? You're thoughts are moving around faster then normal.~ Gardenia inquired.

:I'm fine Gardenia, just thinking. That's all: I smiled at her.

~Okay then Paige.~ She smiled back before looking down at Champ who was giving me a sideways glances of jealousy. Gardenia scolded him with a slightly frown but did so quietly so all I could hear was silent whispers tugging from the corners of my mind.

"Paige, what do you want for dinner?" Jake asked, sounding like it was the thousandth time he'd asked

In record time I scanned over the menu, pointing to one of my newer favourite meals, surprise pasta! A bright smile highlighting my features to mask my true feelings of uncertainty but although Milly and Jake were easily tricked by my smile a worried look for Samurai proved I still couldn't hide what I felt from him.

"So you want ravioli?" Jake confirmed.

Not paying much attention anymore, I nodded, pinching my eyes shut for a moment before opening them again as I let out a small sigh of annoyance. Jake and Milly were talking about the contest which was to begin the day after tomorrow. I'd decided before hand to use Samurai and Gardenia for my first since the two were my first Pokémon, it only made sense that the two were with me in my first contest right?

For the moment at least, I could forget about my troubles with Champ, I'd need to concentrate tomorrow or else I could end up loosing my first contest.

Word count: 1391

Slightly shorter chapter then normal but that's mainly cause I watched a horror movie yesterday so I didn't sleep tonight, yaaaaaay! ("-~-)

Anyway, what did you think? First contest next chapter and I'm looking forward to it since Paige and Aquamarine are my only coordinators so far and they differ so much in personality... Maybe I should write some of "Blurred out" next? What do you guys think should be next?

Please remember to vote and comment as it shows your support to my work and inspires me to keep writing more and more!
