Chapter 5: a surprise

"And that is the anatomy of the-"

Our teacher, Mr. Burnt, was cut off by the bell, a sharp ringing sound. "Human body," he finished with a sigh.

My classmates all jumped up and rushed out of the classroom, but I lingered behind.

When I was alone with the teacher, he asked me, smiling kindly, "How may I help you?"

"I, er, can I turn in this paper early?" I said, showing him my completed essay on tonight's homework.

"You're done already?" he asked, confused.

"Yes, I was, um, taking notes during class, and I wrote an essay while you were talking," I rambled. "Of course, I was listening to you while I was writing. Wait, doing homework early is allowed right? I just didn't want to carry my textbook home."

I motioned to my huge 1-inch, hardcover textbook. We usually left them in the classroom, but whenever we had homework, we'd take them home to study.

"Very well," he said, his eyes twinkling as he accepted my essay.

"Okay! Thank you so much," I said hastily packing up my stuff. "I've gotta go somewhere. See you tomorrow! Have a great day."

Mr. Burnt smiled ruefully, shaking his head. "Goodbye, Cassidy."

I pulled up into Grayson's driveway. The reason why I did my homework during class, so that I didn't have to bring my textbook home, was because Grayson said he would "make it up to me", and I was positive that meant he was going to buy chocolates or snacks for me, and since he was super rich (in my eyes, anyway), I assumed he would buy a big quantity, and I would need space for it.

"Cass!" Grayson was standing on his doorstep waiting for me.

I parked the car, hopped out of it, and grabbed my backpack, swinging it over one shoulder, before running into his arms.

"Missed me?" Grayson whispered smugly into my hair. "It's only been 8 hours, you know?"

I glanced up to see him smirking. I kissed him briefly, and when I pulled apart, I saw that he was still smirking. No luck there. I sighed.

"What?" Grayson asked, head tilting and lips pursed.

"I only kissed you to make you stop smirking," I pouted.

"How does that work?" Grayson smiled.

"Because your lips would transform from smirking into kissing, and then when we pulled apart, they would become neutral, and therefore, you'd stop smirking."

"You really thought that would work?" Grayson asked, grinning.

"I didn't know you were that arrogant, as to keep smirking."

"I-" Grayson started, his lips brushing against my forehead.

"Grayson!" I saw Ethan hop out of his car, parked carelessly behind mine. He jogged up to Grayson and exclaimed, "I got our tickets to Florida!"

I pouted. "Aww," I whined, mostly joking. "Can you guys sneak me into your suitcases?"

Ethan chuckled. "You and Melissa are going too!"

I gasped and hugged him. "Wait, really?"

He pulled four airplane tickets out of his pocket and showed them to me. "We're going to Disneyworld."

I screamed and started jumping up and down, pausing only momentarily to passionately kiss Grayson on the lips. "I love you so much, Gray."

"And you're the best, E," I hugged Ethan tightly.

I continued hopping up and down, excited, and flapping my arms around, until I realized Grayson and Ethan were watching me, amused and bewildered.

"Was this a prank?" I asked them suspiciously. "Are those fake tickets?"

"No," Ethan said slowly.

I cleared my throat awkwardly. "Okay. Well, then why do you two look like mindless cows?"

"We, uh, weren't expecting that reaction," Grayson said.

I blushed hotly. "What were you expecting, then?"

Grayson leaned down and pressed his lips to my forehead. "I wasn't expecting you to have such an enthusiastic reaction," he explained.

"Do you not like it?" I asked timidly.

"I loved it, baby girl," he brushed his lips against mine.

Ethan coughed nervously. "Okay, I'll be inside if you need me."

I was perched on the edge of Grayson's bed, on my phone. I checked my Instagram and gasped. I had 360k, and that meant I'd gained over 200k since my last post.

Grayson glanced up. "I hit 360k on Instagram," I explained to him.

He grinned cockily. "I have 9.2 million."

I rolled my eyes and shoved him lightly. "Well, that's because you're famous, you arrogant buffoon."

"An arrogant buffoon, huh?" Grayson smiled, and twirled a lock of my dark blonde hair. "I'm so hurt."

I huffed. "You should be. Now, you said you'd make it up to me for putting ketchup in my sandwich. Where are my gifts?"

Grayson's eyes twinkled. "I'm sorry princess, I don't have any chocolates on me."

I rolled my eyes. "You owe me," I pouted.

"How about I make it up to you a different way?"

"Like what?" I asked.

"I'll give you a shoutout on my story," he joked.

I wrinkled my nose. "Nah."

"How about kisses?"

"I mean, I love them, but I get them everyday."

He sighed, smiling ruefully. "Is Disneyworld not enough?"

I gasped. "Oh, I forgot about that. I'm so sorry, I sound so greedy. Even after you buy me tickets, I'm asking for more? I'm really sorry, Gray. M-"

Grayson cut me off with a gentle kiss. "Stop it, Cassidy," he said, putting his arms around my neck.

I kissed him back after a moment of hesitation.

After half a minute, he broke the kiss to whisper, "You're not greedy. You're the kindest and nicest girl I've ever met, Cassidy."

I knew that was I was not the kindest or nicest girl he'd ever met, and sighed internally. Grayson was too nice to be true.
