Chapter 11: gone
Grayson walked out of the restroom by himself, after no more than a minute; a minute that would leave them with not enough time to do anything more than just kiss. Stop it, I scolded myself.
I then realized that Melissa wasn't even with him, which greatly surprised me.
"Where's Melissa?" I asked, a challenge in my voice.
"Melissa? I don't know, I went to use the bathroom, and she's not here right now, so maybe she went somewhere. She might've gone to the bathroom too," Grayson said.
Fury raged through me. Stop acting so innocent. If you want to cheat on me, just break up with me.
"She did use the bathroom! She went after you, and you pulled her into the boys' bathroom to do who knows what!" I yelled, words tumbling out of my mouth.
Grayson looked confused. "I never pulled her into the bathroom!" he retorted.
I glared at him. "Well, then who was it?"
"It wasn't me. I swear it wasn't."
"Yes it was! I saw you!"
"No it wasn't," Grayson said furiously. "I never did it, so stop accusing me!"
I rolled my eyes, slumped down in my chair, and angrily blew a strand of hair out of my face.
Grayson tucked it gently behind my ear, which made me feel guilty for yelling at him. Maybe it actually wasn't him.
"I'm sorry Gray," I said. "I really am. I'm just really tired; probably side effects from the coffee I drank earlier."
Grayson squeezed my hand and placed a kiss on my forehead.

We waited in the restaurant for 15 minutes. When Melissa still didn't come out, my anger was replaced with worry, despite what she had done earlier; flirt with Grayson.
"I'm checking on her," I announced.
I nervously walked to the door of the boy's restroom, Grayson trailing behind me. I took a deep breath and put my hand on the door, ready to push it open, but couldn't bring myself to do it.
"Grayson, could you, um, check to make sure there aren't any boys in there using the urinals or whatever."
Grayson laughed, a deep yet soft sound that I was in love with. "Okay, I'll check for you."
He pushed the heavy door open effortlessly and strolled in.
"All clear," he announced after a moment or two, coming back out.
I peeked my head in timidly and slowly tiptoed in, breathing a quiet sigh of relief, when there were, in fact, no boys using the urinals.
I crouched down and looked under the stalls for feet to make sure Melissa wasn't hiding in one of those. Nothing. Still convinced she had to be in here somewhere, I pushed all the doors of the stalls open, double checking that there was no one in there. Nothing. Again.
I heard the creak of a door behind me and I whipped around, blood pounding in my ears, ready to face whatever had abducted Melissa. I raised an arm ready to karate chop them, and I realized it was just Ethan coming into the bathroom. Both twins watched me slowly lower my hand.
"Oh," I cleared my throat, "I thought you were a kidnapper."
"I'd protect you if he was one," Grayson piped up protectively from next to me. He laced his fingers through mine.
I squirmed uncomfortably under Ethan's icy stare. "Mel's not here," I told him.
Ethan bit his lip. "She has to be somewhere."
"There has to be some type of secret door in here," Grayson said in a matter-of-fact tone. "We both know she didn't come out of this door."
He let go of my hand so he could rest his against the bathroom door.
I heard footsteps approach the door, and dove to the corner of the bathroom, pushing Grayson there with me. We toppled over each other and collapsed in a heap.
I lifted my head to see what was going on and saw a boy that looked around 16 staring at us.
"I'm sorry sir. I thought you were a kidnapper."
I untangled myself from Grayson.
"This is her second time today for mistaking someone for a kidnapper," Grayson grinned, standing up and dusting himself off. Ethan helped me up.
The three of us stood there looking at the boy while he looked back at us.
"So," Grayson started, attempting to make it less awkward.
"Sooo," I said, stretching out the word.
The boy backed away from us and put his hand on the door handle. Without hesitation, he pulled open the door and ducked outside. I saw him running away, and didn't blame him.
"Wait," I said suddenly. "We can just call her."
Ethan face palmed himself. "How did we not figure that out earlier?"
I dialed her number and pressed call.
