Chpt. 8

6:50

17 hours and 10 minutes before The FINAL HOUR

"Gone?! what do you mean she's gone?!? like how could she just be gone?!?" Jason asked, starting to panic.

"I don't know," Mia said plopping on the couch, "she was just gone."

"Was her stuff there?" Chase  asks.

"No. not even her suitcase. I think she left us."

"That- that doesn't make any sense, there has to be a reason. She- she left last night, does anyone remember where she said she was going?"

"hmm. I got it! she said she was going to the store to get more snacks!" Grace says.

"right! And in that moment she did not have a suitcase, she only had her purse and keys, so therefore-"

"she didn't leave that night..." Jane finishes.

"well at least not when we were awake..." Jason reasons.

"Maybe there is something on the news we missed that explains why she isn't here, after all she is like a very famous doctor." chase adds.

He then kneels down to the TV and manually turns it on. The TV flickers on, but then produces only a black and white static screen.

"Try going to channel 12, they have the best signal and the news." Mia suggests.

Chase nods, and goes through all the channels until he gets to channel 12. No luck, if anything the static seemed to be worse.

"what do we do know?" Jane asks.

"check your phones and see is you can get some type of news app."

They nod and Chase turns off the TV.

"No luck, signal must be knocked out." Grace says looking up from her phone.

They all are in silence, until Mia gets an Idea,

"Oh My Gosh guys I know how we can check the news."

"how?" Dave asks suspiciously.

"I'll be right back." Mia says.

She then dashed up the stairs to her room and grabbed the laptop off her desk and ran back downstairs with it. Mia then made a space on the coffee table by moving a few empty bags and placed her laptop there. She then sat in front of it and the 5 other teens crowded around it as well,

"So I remember my mom telling me one time she installed this thing that gives me emails from the news, but since I always used the TV to watch the news I never used it."

"But what about the no wifi?" Grace asks.

"That's the thing, it doesn't require any of that stuff, apparently she hacked the website or something."

Grace nods at the answer. Mia then clicks the app to activate and she goes to her email to see if there was any notifications from the news. Luckily there where three notifications from the news and 1 from an unknown source. Mia clicks the latest email and a video pops up:

News Report: yes folks finally the crisis has died down! In other news there are over 50 million people dead, which only leaves about 500 known living people in the town...

There was nothing useful in that video so after it ended, Mia clicked the next video:

News Report: Bodies are being dumped all over the city. Pedestrians are beginning to riot at the city square. The acts were so violent that the police were using brute force to get them to retreat leaving 10 dead and over 30 injured.

This actually shocked most of them, for they lived too far from the city to know that all of this was going on, yet they proceeded onto the next video:

News Report:NEWS WARNING: Ladies And Gentlemen This Is Not A Drill, The Dead Are Walking Amongst The Living. Get To The Safe Haven Before They Drop The- Oh No! BEEEEEEEEEPP.

All of their eyes widened at that. They were shocked at this information they weren't even sure if they should believe it. While they all were in shock Jane got up from her spot and slowly walked toward the window.

"W-Was that real?" Dave asks

Before Mia could answer him, Jane gasped and tripped onto her back. They all looked at her, she had her hand over her mouth and tears were streaming down her face, all while she was looking in the direction of the window.
