97) Gladiolus (Part II)

~(Y/n)'s POV~

Weeks of searching for the giant Unversed went to waste. Aqua and I weren't having any luck at finding it. Even King Regis offered his help. Noctis, Prompto, Gladio, and Ignis have also been helping us search, but still no luck. I slump my shoulder as the six of us return from another failed search.

"Gladio, are there any underground tombs?" I ask out of the blue. "There's one not far from here."

"(Y/n), you don't think-?" Aqua started. I nodded. "It's highly possible the Unversed is hiding underground. It's the only option we haven't explored."

"Wait, we're going back there?" Prompto asked. "Prom, you don't have to go. If you give us directions, Aqua and I will be able to find it."

"Not a chance." Gladio's outburst caught me by surprise. Everyone else was shocked too. "Gladio, you know normal weapons don't work on Unversed. Only the Keyblade can take them down." I could tell by his expression that he wanted to do more.

"How about this: you can accompany us until we have to enter the tomb." Everyone except Gladio nodded. He was being very stubborn for some strange reason. Noctis noticed as well and took Gladio away for a bit. "I am sorry for his behavior, (Y/n), Aqua," Ignis apologizes.

"Don't apologize. He's just worried," Aqua said. "I've never seen him get this upset," Prompto comments. Aqua and I exchanged glances. "I'll go check on him." I left the room and found Noctis questioning Gladio. I was about to speak up, but one of Noctis' questions made me freeze. "You care about (Y/n), don't you?"

I quickly hid to listen to Gladio's answer. He took a deep breath and sighed. "And what if I do?" I peeked from my hiding spot and saw the prince was smirking. "Tell her." Noctis' simple reply shocked me to the core. I couldn't handle the conversation and stomped my foot. Their conversation halted and I pretended to have just walked out of the room.

"Are you alright?" I ask, keeping my tone in check. Noctis' smirk grows and quickly leaves. "Sorry about that," Gladio said in an apologetic tone. I shook my head. "Don't worry about it." I turned on my heels and began walking back to the others. Suddenly my arm was grabbed and I stopped.

I turn to face him. His expression was something I couldn't read. "Gladio, do you have something on your mind?" I try to act as dumb as possible. I was aware of his feelings, but I didn't want him to figure out that I had eavesdropped on his and Noctis' conversation. "The other day, you mentioned someone named Ventus. Is he-?"

A playful smirk crept onto my face. "Why, Gladio, are you jealous?" I crossed my arms and raised an eyebrow at him. Gladio's expression changed dramatically. He now was spouting nonsense about how he didn't care and that he was happy for me. I silenced him with my hand.

"Gladio, Ventus is a friend of mine. He's a Keyblade wielder just like me. Aqua and I left him at the Land of Departure. You have nothing to worry about. He's like a little brother to me." Gladio looked like he was about to burst with relief when he heard the truth about Ventus.

"Now, before you explode, shall we return to the others?"

"Yeah."

We return to our friends and head out. The tomb wasn't far just like Gladio said. "Yay, the cave we all love," Prompto said sarcastically. Aqua and I suddenly felt the presence of the Unversed. "Aqua," I call out to her. "It's here," she said.

"How big is this thing?" Noctis questioned. "We're not sure. Master Eraqus said it keeps growing," Aqua responds. My eyes traveled over to Aqua. "Ready?" She nods and we head in. "Do be careful," Ignis said before we were out of earshot. I could feel worried eyes bearing into my back. Even though I couldn't see who it was, I knew it was Gladio. I shook the feeling away and continued ahead.

We both summoned our Keyblades before we descended further. The Unversed presence grew as we headed deeper into the cave. Aqua was able to find a strange stone stairwell that led deeper into darkness. "This must be the tomb," she said. "I don't like it here." I tighten my grip on the handle of my Keyblade.

We only ran into minor Unversed while reaching the deepest point of the tomb. "Where is it?" Aqua looked around for the Unversed. I felt a sudden surge of darkness when I gazed down a hallway to our left. "Aqua, we've got company."

As the words left my mouth, a horde of Unversed poured from the hallway. Their bodies fused together to create an even bigger Unversed. "It's feeding off the darkness in this world. That's why it keeps getting stronger," Aqua said.

"Once we take it down, this world will go back to normal. No more Unversed will show up." Our space was limited, but we made sure to use it to our advantage. Our battle against the Unversed was going well, until it changed its tactics. Aqua used her shotlock to knock the Unversed off balance.

When it fell, I dashed over to deliver a few strikes. Before I could attack, Unversed suddenly flew up and hit me away from it. My back hit the stone wall with tremendous force. "(Y/n)!" Aqua calls out with worry. The Unversed changed its target from Aqua to me. I groan in pain as I try to ready myself to block.

The grip on my Keyblade wasn't strong and the Unversed was able to attack with ease. Aqua tried to get it to switch its attacks back to her, but it was solely targeting me. I closed my eyes when the Unversed was ready to strike a powerful blow. When the pain didn't come, I opened my eyes.

"Gladio." He grinned when his name rolled off my tongue. He was the one to block the attack. With his sword, Gladio pushed the Unversed back. He helped me off the ground and I thanked him. I used Cura to heal all of my wounds. "What was that?" He asked when the green light surrounded me. "Healing magic."

"(Y/n), if one of us can get on top of its head, we'll be able to finish it off," Aqua informed me. My eyes glanced at Gladio. "How good are you at throwing?" I ask. Gladio was confused until he put the pieces together. "Better than anyone else," he said cockily. "Good, because I'm gonna need a boost."

"Whenever you're ready, (Y/n)."

"Let's get this over with."

Gladio was able to get me on top of the Unversed's head. It tried to shake me off, but I dug my Keyblade into its body. I yanked out my Keyblade and aimed for the weak point on its head. With one powerful blow, the Unversed began to crumble. I jumped down before it completely vanished.

(A/n: I'm bringing GIFs back!)

"Thank you, Gladio," I said. "We needed your help in the end." Aqua added. Gladio was about to say something, but he was cut-off by the others. "Is it gone?" Prompto asked. Aqua and I nodded in unison. Noctis began to smirk at Gladio. By the prince's expression, I knew he was going to say something about Gladio running off without them. "Don't say a word, Noct," Gladio growled.

"Just tell her!" Prompto shouts. I was taken back by his sudden outburst. Ignis was the next to speak. "I have to agree. Their mission is complete and will be heading home." I placed a hand on Gladio's arm. He gazed down at me with sad eyes. "I know it's been bugging you all day. I... also heard you talking with Noctis in the hallway."

His eyes widen when I tell him I heard the conversation about him liking me. Everyone was silent. I grabbed one of Gladio's hands with both of mine. I took him out of the tomb and back outside. "(Y/n), I-"

"You don't have to anything, Gladio. I heard everything. I also feel the same way." He was happy to hear that. "But..." I started, trying to word this without breaking his heart. His happy expression was soon replaced by a defeated one. "We live in different worlds. I'll be able to visit, but I still have other worlds to save. Eos is saved from the darkness. Now Aqua and I must take care of the other words."

We both went silent. The others joined us and Aqua said it was time to go. "Master Eraqus will be glad to hear our mission was a success." I nodded in agreement with her. "I can do this before we go." I smile at Gladio. "And what's that?" He asked with a grin. I had to jump high in order to kiss him on the cheek.

"Will we get to see both of you again?" Prompto asked. "Of course," Aqua responds. "We love to visit friends," I added. We activated our armor and gliders. "Now I want armor," Noctis said. Aqua and I laughed at his words. "We'll make sure to visit very soon," I said. They all said goodbye as Aqua and I headed through the pathway.

~3rd Person POV~

-Five Months Later-

"It's been awhile since we've been to Hammerhead," Noctis said. "Yeah, the last time we were here was with (Y/n) and Aqua. I wonder how they're doing?" Prompto ponders at the thought. "I'm sure they're fine. Both of them are tough," Gladio replies.

Ever since both girls left, Noctis has teased Gladio about (Y/n). "We know you miss (Y/n). You even mentioned her to Iris." Gladio wasn't given into his teasing anymore. "There's nothing wrong with missing someone you love, Noct. You should know, especially when it comes to Lunafreya."

Noctis knew he wasn't going to win and backed down. The first person to greet them was Cindy when they reach Hammerhead. "How y'all doin'?" She asked. They only had a small conversation with her. Before they were about to head out, Cindy got Gladio's attention.

"There was a girl here not too long ago. She was talking about ya."

Hope grew within Gladio. He snapped his attention to Cindy. "What did she look like?" Cindy had to think a little to remember the girl's appearance. "She had (h/c) hair and (e/c) eyes. She also carried around a strange thing that looked like a key. She didn't give me her name."

"It must be (Y/n)," Ignis said. "Which way did she go?" Gladio eagerly asked. Cindy pointed in the direction they were heading. "Thanks, Cindy!" Prompto shouts joyfully. "I wonder how far she made it," Noctis thought. "She couldn't have made it far," Gladio states.

Driving down the road a little ways, Prompto spotted someone on the side. "Is that (Y/n)?" Gladio leaned over the side of the Regalia a little to get a better view of the person. He noticed the person was carrying a Keyblade. "That's (Y/n)'s Keyblade," Noctis points out. "Iggy, stop the car," Gladio said, keeping his eyes on the figure. Ignis stopped the Regalia and Gladio hopped out.

As he got closer, the (h/c) hair became clearer. He smiled and cleared his throat. The girl turned around with wide (e/c) eyes. "Need a ride?" He asked. (Y/n) giggled and smiled at him warmly. "I was taught not to talk to strangers." He chuckled and moved closer to her. "Then it's a good thing I'm not a stranger."

(Y/n) couldn't stop smiling. Gladio grabbed and pulled her in for a hug. She wrapped her arms around him as well. "Sorry for being so late. Master Eraqus had more missions waiting for me." Gladio ran a hand through her soft (h/c) hair. He missed her so much that the hug wasn't enough. He immediately broke the hug and stole her lips.

After a long, passionate kiss, Gladio picked her up in his arms. "As long as you're here now, I don't care about anything else."
