198) Prompto
~(Y/n)'s POV~
Looking out of Noctis' apartment window, I watch as Prompto and his girlfriend, Aria, walk side by side. With crossed arms, I glare at the girl with all the hate boiling in my blood.
"I don't see why you hate her," Noctis comments.
I snap my attention to the prince. "She's using him! I've read her text messages to her best friend! I tried to show Prompto, but he refused to look at them. After that, she deleted them."
"Any other proof you've got besides text messages, (Y/n)?" Gladio asked.
"I did, until Aria broke my phone! I had to buy a completely new one!" I holler.
"You dropped it down a flight of stairs," Ignis states.
"Because she knocked into me on purpose!"
The three looked at me with unamused expressions. I huffed in annoyance and stormed to the door. Before I could leave, Noctis grabbed my arm. "Do you like Prompto?"
I froze in my place, refusing to look at the boy behind me. "Yeah, I do."
"Then, why didn't you ask him out when you were in high school?" Gladio questioned.
"... I did..." I free myself from Noctis' grasp, my eyes gazing down melancholically. No one said a word as they absorbed my confession.
"And he... said no?" Gladio puzzles in shock.
I nod slowly, tears streaming down my face. Wiping a few tears away, I reach for the door knob. "I need to go."
"(Y/n), wait!" Noctis shouts as I storm out of his apartment.
I decided to head to a nearby café and enjoy a small cup of tea before heading home. Just as I was handed my warm drink, Prompto and Aria walked in. I tried to ignore them, but Prompto spotted me and called out my name. He and Aria pulled up chairs and sat next to me.
"Hey, (Y/n), have you been crying?" He asked, concern dripping from every word.
"Y-Yeah, just a little. My mom called me and gave some shocking information. That's all," I lie through my teeth.
"Oh, and what's this 'information' she gave you?" Aria asked with a grin. I choked on my words, but Prompto came to my rescue.
"It's none of our business," Prompto snaps at her. She sends him a glare, making him flinch. I had to hold myself back from jumping over the table and tackling her to the ground. I released my bottom lip, not knowing I was biting so hard until I tasted blood.
"Prom, can I talk to you... in private?" I asked, the last part coming out as a growl.
"Uh, sure." Prompto then gazed at Aria, telling her to leave. She gives us an annoyed sigh before standing up and giving us our space. Once she was out of earshot, I stared into Prompto's sapphire irises with worry. "I know she's not treating you right, Prom. I've seen it when you both are together and apart. She talks bad about you behind your back and controls you when she's around. When's the last time we ever hung out by ourselves?"
"(Y/n), just stop!"
Hearing him shout, I froze with wide eyes. The cup I had in my hand fell, crashing on the tabletop and spilling the remaining of my tea. "I-I'm sorry, Prompto. I didn't mean-"
"Save it! I don't wanna hear it! You have no right to pry into our relationship!" He slams his hands down on the table. The tears that had stopped came back in a torrent. Inhaling a shaky breath, I stood from my seat and ran out of the café.
I ran for what felt like hours until I stopped in front of a small shop. I hadn't been paying attention to my surroundings and had gotten lost within the city. Pulling out my phone, I dialed Ignis' number with jittery fingers. He quickly picked up and sounded worried.
"Are you alright, (Y/n)? Where are you?"
"I-I'm fine. Could you come and pick me up? I've gotten myself lost."
"Of course. I'll track your phone. I'll be there soon."
"Thank you, Iggy."
Just as I hung up, I heard familiar laughter. When I looked down the street, I spotted the demon herself. Luckily, Prompto wasn't with her. When our eyes met, she grinned at me. "Well, if it isn't the famous (Y/n)! Prommy never shuts up about you."
I roll my eyes, trying to ignore her. Suddenly, I was pushed to the ground and felt hands on my throat. Gasping for air, I try to push Aria off of me, but she wouldn't budge.
"You're so annoying! I can't wait to get rid of you!" She cackles, tightening her hands around my throat. My vision began to darken and the girl before me began to blur. As I felt myself slipping into unconsciousness, Aria was ripped off of me. I could hear her struggling against someone as I felt two hands on my cheeks.
I began gasping for air and my vision slowly began to clear. I was finally able to make out who was looking over my body when I saw familiar emerald eyes.
"(Y/n)... (Y/n)!"
I was able to breath properly after taking another few deep breaths. Ignis moves his hands from my cheeks to my shoulders. He helped me to my feet and I finally saw who had pulled Aria off of me. Gladio was restraining the screaming girl as she tried to lunge at me again.
Ignis pulled out his phone, dialing the one person who needed to know what happened immediately. A few minutes pass and I see familiar blonde hair down the street. Once he reached us, Prompto's eyes widen. He rushes over to me and placed his hands on my cheeks, staring into my (e/c) eyes.
"A-Are you okay, (Y/n)?" He asked, pulling me away from Ignis. I nod and close my eyes with a deep sigh. When I opened them, I noticed Prompto was staring at my neck. He was staring at the hand prints that Aria had created around my throat. He moved one of his hands towards the marks but immediately withdrew his hand.
"Prompto, I-"
He didn't let me finish before pulling me into his arms. Something wet was hitting my shoulder and then I heard Prompto sniffle. That's when I knew he was crying.
"I'm so sorry I didn't listen to you. I'm sorry I yelled at you, (Y/n)," he whimpered. I wrapped my arms around him, allowing him to cry on my shoulder.
Ignis and Gladio took Aria while Prompto carried me on his back to his apartment, which was only a few blocks to the west.
"I completely forgot your apartment was this way," I comment.
"Well, you haven't been over since Aria came into the picture."
I grasp him tighter, burying my head in the crook of his neck. "I'm sorry you had to find out like this."
Prompto shook his head. "No, I knew you were right the whole time. It's just... I blinded myself from the truth. I can't... I can't believe I chose to see her true nature right after you got hurt. I'm a horrible friend."
I lightly bopped him on the head with my fist. "You're not a horrible friend, Prom. I'm more than happy to have you in my life."
"Thanks, (Y/n)," he said, looking over his shoulder at me with a genuine smile.
We arrived at his apartment and he laid me on the couch. Prompto sat next to me and directed his gaze to my neck. "Does... does it still hurt?"
"No, not anymore."
After a prolonged silence, Prompto suddenly grabbed my hands tightly in his. "Hey, remember that day you asked me out in high school?"
I swallowed a small whimper before answering. "Yeah, of course I do. You... um, rejected me..."
"I-I know and I'm a complete idiot for doing such a thing. I've regretted it ever since I saw you crying in the classroom by yourself. I wanted to take back what I said, but Noct came in. Did you tell him about my rejection?"
"Well, not until today. I lied to him in the classroom." I grabbed his hands in mine, entangling our fingers together like ribbons. Prompto's cheeks began to burn brightly as he stared at our connected hands.
"Okay, okay. I need to breathe," Prompto hyperventilates. I waited for him to calm down before kissing him on the nose. His cheeks darkened and I giggled at the sight. From my place on the couch, I could hear his racing heart. He took a few more breaths before staring into my (e/c) eyes. "(Y/n), I need to ask you something very important!"
"I am all yours, Prom."
"O-Oh, gods..." He mutters, his cheeks reaching the tint of red that could rival the sunset. He swallows hard before continuing. "I-I... will... will you be my girlfriend?"
A squeal erupted from my throat before I tackled Prompto into a death hug. "Of course I will! You know I love you, ya goofball!"
He sighs in relief before kissing me passionately. We laid on the couch, bathing in each other's warmth. After another intoxicating kiss, I was complete putty in his embrace. I felt like my limbs were made of pure jelly and couldn't move. Prompto played with my (h/c) hair as I laid on top of him.
"If you keep messin' with my hair like this, I'm gonna fall asleep," I admit, my eyes beginning to droop.
"You need some rest after what happened today. Just sleep, (Y/n)." He kisses me on the forehead while continuing to stroke my (h/c) locks. I hummed in response, closing my eyes for a peaceful rest I haven't had in years.
