196) Prompto
~(Y/n)'s POV~
Due to whining from Noctis, we've decided to rest in Old Lestallum for the day. I decided to spend some time by myself and walk around the small outpost. I had spotted Dave and we chatted for a good hour before I got a text from Noctis.
N-What's wrong with Prom?
I stared at my screen with a baffled expression before replying to the prince.
(Y/n)-Not sure. Is he acting strange?
N-Yeah, he isn't all cheery as usual. Did something happen?
(Y/n)-Not that I know of
N-I tried asking him, but he keeps ignoring me. Anyways, Specs want you to meet us at the Crow's Nest in an hour
(Y/n)-Alright, see ya then
I reread Noctis' messages, hoping that Prompto was alright. The worry in my chest blossomed when I saw the wallpaper of my phone. It was our first date and Noctis had been spying on us the whole time. I smiled at the memory before the worry ached in my chest, causing my smile to disintegrate.
An hour passes before I knew it and I dashed to the diner. I apologize for being late and sit next to Prompto. He didn't even acknowledge my presence and continued to fiddle with the straw in his drink. Now that I was seeing what Noctis was talking about, it hurt me even more. When I reached out to grab his hand, he quickly retracted it and solemnly gazed at his drink. Seeing that he didn't even want me touch him hurt the most.
"How was your day off, (Y/n)?" Noctis asked, noticing my depressed mood.
"Nothing eventful. I did have a nice chat with Dave," I respond, trying to act cheerful.
"That's it? I thought most girls were all about their alone time," Gladio grins.
I kick him under the table and cross my legs. "I'm not like most girls."
"True," Noctis and Gladio said in unison.
"And you both are just weirdos," I remark.
"That, I agree upon," Ignis joins in, taking a sip of his ebony.
"You're the one who hangs out with us, Sweetheart," Gladio said with a smirk.
"Eh, it was out of pity," I laugh.
Both were about to snap back, but our meal came and we began to eat. I watched Prompto from the corner of my eye and saw he was just pushing his food around. "Prom, are you alright?" I ask worriedly.
"I'm fine," he snaps harshly. I flinched at his tone and fell silent.
Noctis glared at his best friend for the harsh tone he used. "What's with you today?"
"Nothing! Just... leave me alone..."
"Anyone can tell you're lyin', Prom," Gladio said.
Prompto slams his hands on the table before storming out of the diner. I follow after him and watch as he heads to the motel. When I lost sight of him, I knew exactly where he scurried off to. Whenever he was upset, he'd always head for the roof. The boy admitted to me the place was the best for him to clear his head.
When I was able to reach the roof, I spotted Prompto immediately. His sad eyes were locked on the diner across the street, but it seemed as if his gaze was somewhere else. My heart ached at the sight of his seldom expression. Quietly, I made my way over to him and sat beside him. "You can always talk to me, Sweetie. You know I'll listen."
From the corner of my eye, I saw his shoulders were shaking and tears were streaming down his cheeks. Worried, I reached out to touch him. "Prom-"
Suddenly, Prompto threw his arms around me and tackled me in a tight and warm hug. I was laying on my back while Prompto cried into my shoulder. I placed a hand in his hair, stroking the blonde locks gingerly as his body shook.
"I'm sorry... I'm so sorry, (Y/n)..." He sniffles between sobs. "I-I didn't mean to snap at y-you earlier."
"Don't apologize, Prom. Now, tell me what's been eating at you. The others are worried as well."
Prompto lifts his head from my shoulder and readjusts our position so now that I'm sitting between his legs with my back pressed against his chest. He laid his chin on top of my head before taking a breath and spilling all his worries. "Every time I see you and the others fight, I feel completely useless. I just end up getting in the way. I'm a burden to all of you."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Anger was bubbling up inside me, but I tried pushed it down. "Don't talk about yourself like that. You aren't useless! Just because you can't wield a blade like the rest of us doesn't mean anything! You've saved me countless of times in battle. If it weren't for you, I'd either be injured or dead. No one can and will replace you. If you were useless, Noct wouldn't have dragged you along with him. You are a valuable comrade in everyone's eyes, especially mine. Just... please, stop putting yourself down."
With my anger gone, tears poured from my eyes. I turned around in Prompto's embrace and wrapped my arms around him. I buried my face in his chest, trying to silence my sobs. I felt his arms tighten around me as he nuzzled his nose against my cheek. "I am so happy to have you by my side, (Y/n)."
"And I'm happy you're here for me, too. I wouldn't trade you for anyone else, not even an Astral."
He smiled through his own tears before falling on his back, taking me with him. He laid down with me sprawled on top of him, stealing a few kisses here and there.
After some time had passed, I noticed it was finally nighttime. Prompto, in complete silence, picked me up in his arms and carried me to my room. He gently laid my body down on the bed and went to leave, but I quickly grabbed his arm and pulled him onto the mattress. A faint squeak of surprise left the blonde as he laid next to me. Slowly, Prompto rested an arm around my waist as I snuggled into his side, basking in his warmth. With a small kiss on the lips, we both fell into a deep sleep.
