193) Prompto

~(Y/n)'s POV~

"Sania, calm down," I said, trying to simmer the raging scientist. She paced back and forth with her arms flailing in the air.

"We are missing the main ingredient, (Y/n)!" She shouts.

"Why don't I go and get the frogs?" I ask.

Sania spun to face me and stormed over. "Too dangerous! I am not sending my one and only assistant into the dangerous wild!"

I sit down in the metal chair next to the table with all our supplies. I cross my legs, rest my elbows on my knees, and cup my cheeks with my hands. "Why don't you hire someone? We've got the gil."

Sania jumped at the idea and turned to the gas pumps. With a booming voice, she yelled at the first people who caught her attention. "You two with the fancy car! Come over here!"

I roll my eyes and facepalm at her way of communicating. The two men walk over with confused looks, which didn't surprise me one bit. Taking in the mens' appearances, the one with blonde hair was much smaller than the behemoth of a man standing next to him.

"Ah, you two boys look fit for the part! How about runnin' a small errand for me and my assistant?" Sania said, gesturing to me.

I flew from my chair and stood in front of the professor. "Sania, you can't just call random strangers over and ask them to do an errand for you!"

She looked at me, shrugging her shoulders. "Why not?"

I groan at her answer and turn to face the men she beckoned over. "Forgive her. She's a little crazy. I'm sorry to have bothered you both. Just... ignore her."

"(Y/n), we need those frogs!" Sania hollers.

The blonde one jumped forward a little excitedly and stood only inches from me. "We can get the frogs." Once he realized how close he had gotten, his cheeks burned bright red and he took a few steps backwards to create more space between us.

The brute next to him grinned and slung an arm over the blonde's shoulders. "We've gotcha covered, ladies."

"Good! (Y/n) can go and show you gentlemen where to find the frogs," Sania said, patting me on the back.

"Yes, I can show-wait, what?!" I shout.

Sania laughs and pushes me towards the men. "Don't worry your pretty little head over it, (Y/n)! They'll protect you!"

I almost fell to the hard ground, but two arms caught me before I could hit the pavement. The blonde had been the one to catch and set me back on my feet. "Thank you," I said.

He smiles with a blush and lets go of me. "N-No problem."

Sania clapped her hands together before turning back to her work. I mentally strangle the woman before turning to face my new partners. "So, who do I get the honor of working with?"

The one with tattoos spoke first. "Gladio."

Then, I finally learned the name of the boy that has been staring at me with red cheeks the whole time. "Prompto, nice to meetcha!"

"I saw you pull in and know there are two more of you."

"You're sharp, little lady," Gladio smiles with crossed arms.

I ignored the nickname and placed my hands on my hips. "So, we'll be needing to head to Alstor Slough to catch the frogs once your friends return. We'll need about five of 'em. And..." I began messing with my fingers, a bad habit I've developed from when I felt guilty about something. "I'm really sorry about Sania. She isn't... all there."

"Nah, don't worry about it, (Y/n)! We're in need of some gil and we can't let you go into the wilds by yourself," Prompto beams joyously.

"You're too sweet, Prompto," I smile warmly.

He cleared his his throat and suddenly pulled out a camera. "I-If you don't mind, could I take your picture?"

"Picture?"

"Y-Yeah, I'm takin' pictures of our journey," he stutters.

My smile widens and I nod. "Go right ahead."

With a click of his camera, Prompto successfully got his picture. He must've gotten a great shot because he keeps staring at the screen of his camera. Just as I was about to speak up, the two missing from the group returned.

"Took your time," Gladio huffs.

"Apologies for the prolonged wait," the one with glasses responds. The boy with raven hair notices me and his face fills with confusion. Prompto realized he was staring at me and explained the situation.

"We can help," the raven haired boy, which I now knew as Noctis, said.

"It won't take long. We'll grab the frogs and return here," I state.

"Simple enough," Gladio said.

"Where to?" Noctis asked.

"Alstor Slough. The frogs will be in the shallows of the lake," I reply.

"Alright! Let's go catch us some frogs!" Prompto cheers.

Being the smallest of the four, I sat in the back between Noctis and Gladio. Ignis, the one with glasses, drove us to Alstor Slough in silence. Once parked, the five of us exited the car and I led them to our destination. We reach the shallow area of the lake and Prompto tapped me on the shoulder. "What color are the frogs?"

"Yellow. They should be easy to spot against the rocks and grass."

"All we need is five?" Noctis asked. I nod and spot one immediately. Catching the slippery amphibian within my small hands, I held it at eye height and stared into its beady eyes. A smile crept across my face when I heard it ribbit. "Only four more."

With the help of the others, catching the frogs were an easy task. All five yellow frogs were in our grasp when I suddenly heard the sound of an engine. Prompto, being the closest one to me, noticed me staring at the sky and began to worry. "(Y/n), you okay?"

I face the blonde with confused (e/c) eyes. "What's that sound?" They all froze at my question and became silent.

Ignis was the only other person to hear it. "Magitek engine. It's close!"

The airship came into view, dropping Magiteks all around us. I wasn't experienced in fighting and I knew I would get in the way. Before I could speak, Prompto summoned a pistol and stepped in front of me protectively.

"Prom, you're on protection duty!" Gladio shouts as he cuts down a few machines with his greatsword.

"Already on it, Big Guy!" The blonde yells back.

One Magitek swiped its axe towards us, but Prompto grabbed me and dodged to safety. I glance to where we were previously standing to see the axe embedded in the ground. He pulled the trigger and a bullet drove through the machine's head, causing sparks to fly everywhere. Its metallic body crashes to the ground and doesn't move an inch.

While I was completely in awe, the four had defeated all the enemies. Prompto faces me, checking to see if I was hurt. I thank him with a smile, making his own appear. We head back to the car and return to Coernix Station with the frogs in our care.

"Sania, we've got 'em!" I announce excitedly. The professor jumps up and down in joy and snatches all five frogs from us. I gladly handed over the gil to Ignis and thanked all of them.

"If you need anything else, don't hesitate to ask. We'll be in the area for a few weeks," Noctis said.

"You'll be the first we call," I smile.

As Noctis, Gladio, and Ignis walked away, Prompto seemed hesitant to follow his friends. He was tapping his shoes against the pavement, his eyes trained on the ground. Worried for him, I called out his name softly. His eyes darted up to meet my gaze. "U-Um, could I... maybe come and see you whenever?"

His question caught me by surprise, but I couldn't help but giggle. "Of course. Honestly, I really could use the company. Sania is... not right in the head sometimes and it's a little freaky."

Prompto bursted into laughter. While he was busy laughing, I lean forward and place a kiss on his cheek. "Don't be a stranger, Prom. I'm looking forward to your next visit."

His laughter ceases, the apples of his cheeks turning bright red. "Definitely!"
