186) Noctis
~(Y/n)'s POV~
As we entered Crestholm Channel outside of Insomnia, Prompto began to whistle nervously. I glance at the usually bubbly blonde as he decided to lag behind a little. "Prom, if you stay so far away, a daemon might attack you." He jolts in realization and swiftly moves to join us.
After a few minutes of silence and trudging through the sewer, Noctis shattered the silence. "Where the hell are we supposed to find headlights down here?" I shrug my shoulders at the reasonable question. The prince groans in annoyance and threads a hand through his raven hair. Gladio smacks him on the back, hard enough for it to resound around us. "Guess we'll have to start searching every nook and cranny."
Just as the shield had stated, we searched every inch of each room and hallway before moving on to another location. Ignis was able to find a switch and flip it. The only sound we got to signal it worked was a loud clicking noise. Coming to a juncture, I gazed at the prince to signify which way to go. "Which way?"
"I... don't know. This place is like a maze. Maybe you should pick? You're better at directions than anyone else here."
I stare in shock, but a smirk eventually carves onto my face. "Did... you just admit you're bad at directions?"
"I did not! I just said you're better than anyone else here, even Specs."
"Oh, okay. You just sugarcoated it," I giggle. Noctis huffs and crosses his arms. His expression makes me laugh a little harder, but I calmed myself after a few seconds. I walk over to him and kiss his cheek lightly. "I'll handle it from here."
As I chose a path, I could hear Noctis chatting away with Prompto. "Dude, how come you're the lucky one out of all of us?" The sharpshooter was whispering, but I still could hear every word clearly. Gladio then joined in with a scoff. "Been askin' the same question ever since they tied the knot."
"We should be congratulating Noct instead of chiding him," Ignis replies coolly.
"Y'know she can hear us, right?" Noctis mumbles in embarrassment. A grin crept onto my face as I stopped in my tracks to spin on my heels and face the ensemble of men behind me. I place my hands on my hips as my grin widens. "Clear as day." Gladio avoids my gaze and begins to whistle as if he wasn't a part of the conversation. Prompto and Noctis looked away with red cheeks while Ignis adjusted his glasses.
"Now, we've gotta slide down. We've only found one switch and only the Gods know how many remain." I wipe the grin off my face and gesture to a small opening with rushing sewer water. Noctis' embarrassment was vanquished when he saw how far the drop was on the other side.
"Don't worry, there's a platform just beneath the rushing water. Make sure to not slip," I warn in a serious tone. When I tried sliding down first, Noctis lunged out and latched onto my arm. He pulled me away from the rushing water and stood in front of me. "I'll go first."
I respect his decision and let him slide down first. Following in suit, I slid and landed a few inches from the edge. Prompto was next, screaming as he slid. Noctis pulled me from the edge and to the side, saving me from becoming the blonde's cushion. Ignis and Gladio soon joined us while I peered over the ledge once again. I groan when I spotted a Naga only a few levels down.
"What's with the groan?" Gladio asked. I gestured to the daemon as it slithered around, murmuring incoherent thoughts. The brute groaned along with me when his eyes landed on the monster. Noctis, Prompto, and Ignis joined us in disdain at the sight below.
"Should we get rid of it?" Prompto asked.
"In our favor-yes," Ignis said.
Prompto whimpered at the tactician's response. We climbed down a ladder, trying to make as little sound as possible. Noctis, being the careless person he is, warp-strikes before any of us could make it down the last ladder. I felt like hitting my head against a hard, stone wall for his irrational thinking. Summoning my dual blades, I jump from the ladder and deliver a heavy blow to the Naga's head. "Noct, you seriously need to stop warping into battle without the rest of us."
"Sorry, (Y/n). Bad habit," he snickers.
"A bad habit you need to break," I mumble, jumping to safety. Prompto, Gladio, and Ignis joined in on the fray to vanquish the hybrid daemon. Ignis and I combined attacks while Noctis and Gladio did the same. The Naga was on its last life, but a strange green fog emitted from its body. The only one caught in the sudden attack was Noctis. When the fog cleared, all that was left in the prince's place was a frog.
"You've gotta be kidding me!" Prompto whines.
"Keep the daemon busy. I'll pick his little green ass up before it crushes him," I said. The trio nods, signaling me to run to Noctis. Picking his slimy body in my hands, I dodge the Naga's tail and watch Gladio deliver the final blow. The daemon's body vanishes, all of us sighing in unison.
I lift the frog prince up in the air to get a better look at him. "We don't have the right remedies for this."
"Oh, kiss him! Maybe that'll work!" Prompto laughs.
"Not sure that's how to fairytale goes," Gladio grumbles.
"Indeed. It requires a princess," Ignis said.
"Which I am not," I add.
"You're a princess in his eyes, (Y/n)," Prompto said, his tone full of sincerity. I peer at him from the corner of my eye and sent him a smile. Directing my gaze back to Noctis, I stared at his lips. "That's sweet, Prom, but I'm not gonna kiss a frog. Even if it is Noctis, I'm not kissing a slimy amphibian."
"I wholeheartedly agree," Ignis states.
"Aw, you two ruined the moment!" Prompto pouts.
"It was sweet while it-" Suddenly, I was surrounded by a small cloud of fog and fell to the ground while being crushed under someone. Closing my eyes from the sudden weight covering my body, I felt like I was being suffocated. When I peaked through lidded eyes, I was met with a crystalline blue gaze.
"Talk about killin' the moment," Noctis groans as he lifted himself off my body. He placed his hands on the ground beside my head to hover above me to prevent him from crushing me further.
"Noct, I love you, but I'm not kissing a frog-even if it would win me a million gil."
He clicked his tongue before getting to his feet. He offered a helping hand and I gladly accepted it. As he pulled me to my feet, he hastily closed the distance and placed his lips onto mine. The kiss was quick, but I could feel the passion he was projecting through the brisk contact.
"What if I said I'd kiss you if you were slimy and gross?" His sudden question caught me off guard, but I knew the answer clearly.
"I'd love you for more than all of eternity."
"Then... does that mean you'll kiss me, too?"
"Mm... I'll have to think about it." I spin on my heels and proceed through the tunnel. I could hear Prompto and Gladio laughing up a storm while Ignis smiled in amusement as he walked beside me.
"How about just one froggy kiss?" He asked, catching up to me.
"I'd still have to think about it."
"You're horrible," he playfully nudged me while laughing.
"Love you too, Froggy."
