~3rd Person POV~
Prompto couldn't help but stare down at the beautiful girl that decorated his phone's background. A smiling girl with (h/c) hair and (e/c) eyes stood against the radiant sunset, a halo of rays making her even more bright than the sun itself.
"Didn't know you had a girlfriend," a deep voice sounded from behind the sharpshooter. He jumped slightly at the sudden statement and almost dropped his phone. Luckily, he had a tight enough grip on the device to prevent such a tragedy.
"S-she's not my girlfriend!" Prompto defends sharply. Gladio raised an eyebrow at his sudden defensive behavior. A red hue tinted Prompto's cheeks at the thought of (Y/n) being his girlfriend. "Alright, then who is she?" He asked, arms crossed over his chest.
"She's a—was a close friend," Prompto replied sadly, his eyes traveling down to his phone.
"What happened?" Gladio pursued.
"I-I don't know. We were really close when we were little. We'd always go everywhere with one another and no one could separate us. After beginning high school, she suddenly stopped coming over. I tried texting her, but she wouldn't respond. Two years ago, she vanished. No one in Insomnia has seen her since the first day of high school."
Gladio was so zoned into Prompto, he didn't miss a detail. The story was completely shocking and the shield could tell how much the blonde felt for the girl just by his tone. "What's her name?" He asked.
"(Y/n). She had a strict dad, but he'd always been kind to me." Prompto picked at a few strands of his hair as his mind traveled to (Y/n)'s dad. Feeling guilty for teasing him, Gladio patted the cameraman on the back. "I'm sure you'll see her again."
"I hope so," he murmurs. The two were interrupted when Noctis and Ignis exited Takka's Pitstop. "The leader of Paradox has been spotted in the area. He goes by the code name 'Equinox' and has made camp not far," Ignis informs.
"Let's go kick this guy's ass. He's been a pain in our side for too long," Gladio growls. The four jump into the Regalia and head off without skipping a beat. Finding the camp was easy, but it was surrounded by members of Paradox. Ignis parked the car a few miles down the road to prevent the enemy from spotting them. Sneaking into the camp, the four discuss a simple plan to apprehend Equinox without much struggle.
"So, Noct and I will sneak behind and grab him. Iggy and Gladio will keep the others busy as a distraction," Prompto said, repeating the plan to make sure he had it right. The others nod and split into two groups. As the distraction worked, the prince and his best friend sneak into the largest tent. The two summoned their weapons and aimed them at the figure that loomed over a small table with documents scattered all over the wooden surface.
Analyzing the leader of the Paradox, Noctis realized it wasn't a man but, instead, was a woman with (h/c) hair. When the woman turned to face them, Prompto froze in his spot, eyes wide as saucers. "(Y-Y/n)..." Her name rolled off his tongue with ease and his voice was filled with shock. As she recognized Prompto, her glare became sharper.
"Well, if it isn't the prince and a traitor," she snarls.
"Prom, you know her?" Noctis asked, his blade still aimed at the woman.
"S-she was my best friend growing up," he replies, his eyes still on (Y/n). Taking small steps forward, he slowly approached her with his pistol resting at his side. "What happened to you?" He asked, sadness dripping from his voice.
"I left Insomnia and created Paradox—an organization built on chaos." Her reply felt like bullets to his heart. A tinge of regret soon blossomed into guilt inside his chest. "W-why are you calling me a traitor?" His voice shook with each word.
(Y/n) fell silent and aimed a pistol at Prompto when he got too close. He immediately stopped his movements and felt tears sting the corners of his eyes. "Since you're here, I may as well as tell you. The moment you changed from my Prompto to everyone's Prompto, I lost you. When I saw how you flirted with girls after your transformation, the pain was unbearable. Before school started, I had planned to confess my feelings to you. I even bought you a new camera as a small present for reaching your goal. When I found you, what I saw broke my heart. You were in our spot, kissing another girl."
Prompto felt a lump form in his throat as he saw the hurt on (Y/n)'s face. The tears streaming down her cheeks are what broke him into millions of pieces. "I-I had no idea."
"I'll give you five seconds to turn around and leave. If you aren't gone, I won't hesitate to pull the trigger," she said, her voice shaking with sobs.
"Please, (Y/n)... Let me explain," he begs her desperately.
"There's nothing to explain. Leave, Prompto," she growled.
The blonde turned to Noctis and told him to leave. The prince was hesitant at first, but he picked up on Prompto's pleading tone. Leaving the two behind, he went and regrouped with Gladio and Ignis. Dispelling his pistol, he built up his courage and took small steps towards (Y/n). For each step he took forwards, she took one step back. Even though he saw her finger tighten on the trigger, he didn't stop.
"(Y/n), just please hear me out," he begs once again.
"Like I'd listen to someone who trampled over my heart," she snaps.
"The only reason I tried dating other girls was because I'd thought you'd only thought of me as a friend."
"Enough..."
"I was the luckiest guy on Eos to have such a beautiful and smart girl by my side."
"Stop it."
"The moment you entered my life, I knew you were irreplaceable. You protected me from bullies and took beatings for me. No one has ever done that for me. That's why—"
"Shut up!"
"I love you! I love you so much! When I leaned you had gone missing, I mourned for months! The girl I love was out of my reach and I couldn't do anything! The worst scenarios came to mind and I... and I thought you were dead..."
"Prompto," (Y/n) whimpers his name, more tears spilling from her beautiful (e/c) eyes. When he was close enough, Prompto slowly took the pistol from her shaking hand. Once the weapon was removed from her grasp, (Y/n) crumbled to the ground. Her weak state brought more pain to him as he fell to his knees and wrapped his arms around her small frame. (Y/n) buried her head into Prompto's chest, continuing to sob uncontrollably.
He had never seen her so broken before. This wasn't the first time Prompto has seen her cry, but it was the first psychological breakdown he's witnessed. The tears soaked the front of his shirt, but he didn't care one bit. Prompto moved one of his hands to cradle her head against his chest. He left a soft and tender kiss on the crown of her head and waited patiently for her to calm down. His sweet words soothed her, the tears finally ceasing.
"Now that I know my mistake, can I redeem myself?" He asked gingerly.
"If... if only you forgive me for running away," she replied.
"(Y/n), I could never blame you for anything." A genuine smile carved itself onto his face as he tightened his arms around her. A small sniffle left (Y/n) when she looked up and stared into Prompto's aquamarine eyes. "Thank you, Prompto. I don't deserve you."
He laughed at her words. "I'm the one who doesn't deserve an amazing girl like you. If I could—"
(Y/n) smiled and knew what he was going to ask before he could say it. She cut him off with a simple "yes", making the smile on his face grow. In a heartbeat, Prompto's lips found (Y/n)'s sweet ones. As the kiss grew more passionate, he moved both hands to cup her jaw and deepen the kiss.
"What the hell are you doing, Prompto?" The deep voice of Gladio ruined the beautiful moment between the two. Glaring, the blonde snapped his gaze towards the brute. "What's it look like? I'm kissing my girlfriend!"
"A.K.A. the enemy," Ignis adds.
"If one of you touch her—" Prompto threatens. Noctis chuckled and shook his head. "We're not gonna touch her, Prom."
A sigh of relief came from the sharpshooter as he got to his feet with (Y/n) in his arms. She looked pass him and gave Noctis a sincere look. "If it'll repay for what I've done, I will disband Paradox. The men probably won't be happy and might retaliate at the sudden news."
"Learning of Prompto's idiotic mistake, I'd say that'll be enough," Noctis beams.
"We'll deal with those who retaliate. We've got your back," Gladio reassures.
"Thank you."
Luckily, no men retaliated when (Y/n) announced the disbandment. The men who were loyal to her decided to help the hunters with monsters and daemons around Lucis. They all felt a huge weight has been lifted off their shoulders as they departed.
Noctis, Gladio, and Ignis went to fetch the car, leaving (Y/n) and Prompto to have a few minutes to themselves. On pure instinct, the blonde leaned his head against (Y/n)'s. She didn't mind his actions at all—welcoming the close proximity with open arms and a racing heart. Prompto messed with a strand of her hair, twisting it around one of his fingers. "So, after we get back home and see your dad, could we go on a date?"
"I'd have it no other way, Prom."
