~(Y/n)'s POV~
"Ignis, wake up!" I shout desperately. The royal advisor was knocked out beside me as we were on a train. Confusion and fear engulfed the entirety of my mind as I had no clue to where we were. All I remember was Ignis and I were preparing dinner at Noctis' apartment. After we finished cooking, a bright light blinded us and now we're on a train.
The sound of running footsteps above us made my eyes dart to the window. Leaving Ignis, I lean out a nearby door. I gasp as I see the sight before me. The train was running out of track and dragging the rest of the carts with the already fallen ones.
"Dammit!" I run back to Ignis and sling one of his arms around my shoulder. I was having difficulty supporting him as his body was dragging me down. Determination flowed through me and I was able to get him to the door. "This is suicide," I said to myself.
"Oi, jump!" A voice shouts over the screeching train. As I felt the train begin to slow down, I took a deep breath and jumped. Our bodies slam into the hard ground, knocking the wind out of me and causing my grip to loosen on Ignis. The pain was unbearable-my vision began to slowly turn black. Before I was consumed by darkness, I saw a man running towards us.
<-------<<<<<
The feeling of someone stroking my hair roused me from my unconscious state. A faint groan of pain left me as I slowly opened my eyes while trying to sit up. "Don't move around much, (Y/n). You're still injured." Hearing the familiar voice, I peer over to see the culprit who was stroking my (h/c) locks.
"Ignis..."
Hearing his name leave my lips, he draws closer and carefully cradles my mangled body against his. My hands were shaking as I clung to his blazer. "When you didn't wake up, I was so worried. Nothing looked familiar and I felt so scared."
Ignis lays a gentle kiss on my forehead and rests his cheek atop my head. After a long silence, the tactician washed away my worry with sweet words and filled me in on where we currently are. Apparently, the two of us were helped by twin assassins. The sister mended my wounds and lended me her room until I was back on my feet.
"Wait, did you say "twin assassins"?" I question.
"It seems you've picked up on the situation just as I have," he said.
"Wasn't Noct playing a game with twin assassins while we were cooking?"
Ignis simply nods and pushes a loose strand of hair behind my ear. Gasping, I stare into his emerald eyes. "You don't think..."
"It's a possibility we should not rule out," Ignis replies, picking up on my theory quickly. Our conversation was ended when the door opened with a pitchy squeak. A young woman with a braided crown greeted us. "Ah, I see you're awake. Your injuries will need time to heal. In the meantime, I'm hoping you'll answer a few questions I have."
"Yes. It's the least I could do in return," I reply curtly. She smiled and left us to ourselves. Ignis helped me to my feet and kept a gentle grip on my waist so I wouldn't fall to the cold floor. As I looked around the room, the window caught my eye. Countless of buildings flew by and I realized we were on another train.
"Ignis-when I jumped off the train with you, did you get injured?" I ask, worry tinting my voice. His grip on me tightened, but it wasn't enough to hurt me. "I was informed of your snappy decision. Even though we both fell, you received the impact." Guilt seemed to engulf every word he spoke. I freed myself from his hold and stood in front of him, placing my hands on his cheeks. "You don't need to feel guilt for my actions. I'm glad you weren't hurt. Also, that train was derailing and both of us would have been fatally wounded if we had stayed aboard."
He covered my small hands with his gloved ones as our foreheads connected. "I still should've-" I quickly silence him with a kiss. "Nope. None of this was your fault. End of discussion." The guilt in his persona washed away at my words. We both smiled and left the room to meet with the others. When we entered the next room, I was surprised by what greeted us.
"I've never seen a train such as this," I comment.
"Then, a tour should be in order for the lady to learn her way around." A voice I don't recognize spoke to me. My eyes traveled to the couch, locking gazes with a man in a top hat. He tipped his hat and smiled widely.
"Jacob Frye. You've already met my dear sister, Evie. It's a relief to see you are up and moving around, love." Hearing the nickname made a wave of uneasiness submerge me. Ignis noticed and immediately put distance between Jacob and me. As the man was about to speak, the door to the cart opened and Evie entered.
"I'm glad you agreed to answer a few questions, (Y/n)," she said, shoving Jacob back down on the couch. "Of course, Evie," I reply.
"Now, first question-how did you get such an injury?"
Ignis wasn't able to answer this question when he first met the twins. Evie must've saved the question for when I woke up. Hearing the question, Jacob flew up and tried to step in. "Let's save that questions 'til later, sister."
"No, I must know how such a thing happened."
All eyes fell on me and I finally recognized Jacob as the man who told me to jump and was most likely the one to carry us to safety.
"Now, Miss (Y/n)-will you please continue?" Evie asked politely.
"I do not like telling lies, so I'll be completely honest. My fiancé and I were unconscious on the train. While I was trying to help him, your brother was jumping from car to car on the roof of the locomotive. After awhile, I had to support Ignis and reach an exit. That's when I noticed the train was beginning to derail. Jacob told me to jump with my fiancé and I did. That's how I received such a beating."
Evie believed every word and turned to face Jacob with an expression that seemed half a smirk and half an angry glower. "Oh, he did now, did he? Derailed a train while innocents were aboard? This is the first I'm hearing this. Would you like to explain, brother dearest?"
"I'd... rather not," Jacob replies. Evie crossed her arms and rolled her eyes. It seems she was expecting that exact reply from him.
"Knowing the truth, I'd like to apologize on my idiotic brother's behalf. We, mostly myself, will make sure you're completely healed," Evie said, gazing at me with sincerity. Jacob flew to his feet with a smirk after his sister backed away.
"How about that tour?" He asked. Before I could speak, Ignis beat me to it. "No need. We will be getting off at the next stop. I wish for my fiancée to get some fresh air."
"Excellent idea. In the meantime, Jacob can scurry off and do the mission he was assigned," Evie said. With a huff, said man leaves with a small group of men and women.
Ignis and I sat down until the train came to a complete stop. As we left, Evie warned us to stay away from a gang called the 'Blighters'. On the other hand, she said the Rooks would aid us in any way possible. All we had to do was mention the Frye twins.
Hand in hand, Ignis and I walked the busy streets of London. Every few minutes, Ignis would check on my well-being. Though I could feel the bandage wrapped around my midsection, the pain was barely noticeable. Ignis was able to finally relax once we sat down on a bench in a nearby park.
Couples were cuddled up next to each other on benches scattered around the park. Some of them were eyeing us, taking in our strange appearance. Out of the two of us, Ignis fit in the most. Seeing tons of women staring at me, I tried to hide behind Ignis as we sat in silence.
"I can't wait to get back home," I murmur.
"As do I, (Y/n)," he responds gently.
More people passed and eyed me like I was an exhibit. Beginning to become self-conscious, I tightened my hold on Ignis' hand. "Do I have horns growing out of my head or something else that makes people stare?" He chuckles lightly and placed his other hand on my cheek, gently gliding his thumb over my skin. "My dear, you are beautiful and radiant as ever."
The small compliment made my cheeks burn in embarrassment. I took a deep breath to keep my composure as I spoke. "Are you sure you weren't a womanizer in a past life?" The only response I received was another chuckle and a kiss on the cheek.
Our delightful moment was ruined when a group of men and women ran into the park. Gunshots rang out all around us as everyone began to scream. Ignis pulled both of us to cover as bullets whizzed over our heads. Peaking over the edge of our cover, I saw another group enter the park, but they were decorated with yellow accents. The ones who were shooting innocents and snatching kids were dressed in red.
Summoning his daggers, Ignis was about to jump out and help, but I latched onto his arm. "It's too dangerous."
"I must help. You are in no condition to fight with your injuries. I'll keep them at bay so they do not spot you."
Freeing himself from my grasp, he jumps into the fray. I stay hidden and watch as the fight progressively gets worse. When I was remembering what Evie had said before we left, she mentioned the Blighters wore red and the Rooks wore yellow. It seems Ignis was listening closely to her and was assisting the Rooks and not the Blighters.
As I was watching over the fight, I noticed a Blighter was dragging a kid to a coach. The poor boy screamed, but no one came to help. I jump into action and weave pass the brawlers. Just as the boy was tossed into the coach, something cold was pressed against my temple. I was shoved into the coach and held at gunpoint by a Blighter.
The little boy next to me was shivering and whimpering. The man in front of us gritted his teeth in annoyance and aimed the gun at him. "Don't point a gun at him!" I snap. Carefully, I pull the boy into my arms and rock him back and forth. The Blighter lowered the gun with a click of his tongue and placed it back in its holster.
I wasn't sure how long we were in the coach until I was yanked out and thrown on the ground with the boy in my arms. A whimper of pain slipped through my lips as the wound on my stomach ached from the harsh impact. The boy was ripped from my grasp and dragged into a building with a sign that read 'Ferris Ironwork'. The Blighter got out of the coach and dragged me through the ironworks. Countless of children were slaving away in poor conditions as I was guided to an office on the top floor.
The Blighter pushed me into a wooden chair that sat before a desk. The man left and I was all alone. A few minutes pass and the door opened with a creak. A man with a bowler hat entered with a sharp glare.
No words left him as he went over to the desk. We both sat in silence until he snapped around and aimed his glare at me. "Where's the two men who were with you?"
Confused, I raise an eyebrow at the question. Noticing my perplexed state, he stormed over and yanked on my hair. I gasp from the amount of pain I was in, but kept my mouth shut.
"You and two other men were on the train before it derailed. I lost precious materials thanks to your antics!" He shouts.
"That's no way to treat a lady, you piece of shite."
The familiar voice cut through the air as I felt a warm liquid drip on my cheek. Looking closer, I realized the liquid was blood and it belonged to the man who still had a strong grip on my hair. Jacob freed my (h/c) locks from the man and pushed him to the floor. I sighed in relief once the pain from his grip was gone.
"You alright?" Jacob asked worriedly.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Is-"
"He's outside waiting for us," he replies with a grin. Jacob and I exited the office and headed to the bottom floor. All the kids I had seen earlier were gone and dead Blighters were everywhere. As we made our way to the exit, Jacob explained to me who that man was. Apparently, his name was Rupert Ferris and he owned the ironworks around London. The evil man was taking kids off the streets and forcing them to work for him.
"How terrible," I sadly said.
"Thanks to your little distraction, we've ridden London of another Templar," he said, trying to cheer me up. "Your fiancé was completely distraught when he saw you were gone."
"Were you at the park?"
"Of course! I was the one who led the intervention. Saw you and a boy get thrown into a coach and alerted my Rooks. We followed closely behind until an opening was available."
"Ignis didn't get injured in the skirmish, did he?" I frantically asked. Jacob shook his head with a smirk. "He's the one who helped the most. It's like he had tunnel vision and you were the only one at the end. I could use a man like that in the Rooks. Mind if ya ask him for me, love?"
"I'm sure he'd appreciate the kind offer, but we've got to get home."
"Such a shame. It'd be nice to have you around. Too bad you're already spoken for. He's a lucky man."
"I'm sure you'll meet someone soon, Jacob. Thank you for everything."
A smile graced his features at my words. Once outside and embraced with fresh air, I took a deep breath. As I exhaled, I heard the voice of the man I love. "(Y/n)." Two arms wrapped around me carefully and pulled my body close. Instantly, I hug Ignis in return. Though the hug was tight, it didn't irritate my injury. "Thank the Six you're safe," he whispers in my ear.
"I know you told me to stay put, but I saw a boy being dragged away and no one else was helping him," I admit.
"Your kindheartedness is just one of the many reasons I fell in love with you. You do not need to apologize."
His sweet words brought tears to my eyes. The blissful moment was interrupted when I heard Jacob shout. Glimpsing over Ignis' shoulder, I spotted a down Blighter with his gun drawn. The barrel was pointed at Ignis and I reacted quickly. Freeing myself from his embrace, I push him to safety as the Blighter pulls the trigger. Time froze as I felt immense pain in my chest. Without even needing to look, I knew the bullet had went straight through my chest. Blood poured from the wound as I crumpled to the ground.
All the shouting mushed together, making nothing comprehensible. My whole body fell into shock as I felt Ignis' arms around me. I could tell he was yelling my name, but I couldn't hear anything. Jacob also peered down at me as Ignis drew my body closer. The two figures above me became blurry and my world was engulfed by darkness.
<-----<<<<
"(Y/n)!"
Opening my eyes, I saw three familiar faces peering down at me with worry. My eyes widen as I felt the area where I was shot only a few minutes ago. Gladio helped me to my feet as Noctis and Prompto helped Ignis.
"What happened to you two?" Gladio puzzled.
"I... I don't know," I reply honestly.
"We saw you both fall in the kitchen and got worried," Prompto said.
"You guys were out for a few minutes, but neither one of you responded to us," Noctis said. I was completely shocked and confused at the prince's explanation. 'We were gone for a couple of days, not minutes,' I thought. I glanced towards Ignis as he steadied himself against the counter. Once he had his bearings, his eyes darted over to me. Without saying a word, he grabbed my hand and pulled me into his arms.
"May we get a moment alone?" He asked the others.
"Uh, sure," Prompto said. The three left the kitchen without question. One of Ignis' hands threaded through my hair, stroking the (h/c) locks gently between his gloved fingers. "How do you feel?" He asked, breaking the silence.
"I feel great. The bullet wound and cuts around my stomach are gone. It seems the injuries I obtained in that world did not follow us home."
A sigh of relief came from the royal advisor. "Feeling you grow cold in my arms is not something I ever wish to experience. I should have been the one to take the bullet, not you."
"I'm not going to apologize for saving your life, Ignis. It was my decision and I don't regret it."
His arms around me tightened. "You are too stubborn for your own good," he chuckled lightly.
"But you fell in love with this stubborn girl. You better be ready for a roller coaster ride because once we're married, you'll be in for a bigger and crazier adventure," I laugh. Ignis smiles and presses his lips against mine.
"I will be looking forward to it, my dear."
