~(Y/n)'s POV~
"(Y/n)!" My brother, Nyx, yells after me as I storm down the stairs of the Citadel. Ignoring him, I pass a few more glaive members and some Crownsguard members who were eying us like hawks. All of them were curious as to why I was being pursued by my brother. Nyx lunged out and grabbed me by the shoulder. I lurch out of his grip and push him away from me.
"You asshole! How could you?!"
"Listen, (Y/n), I did it for your safety," he defended calmly. I grit my teeth in anger and clutch my hands into fists. Not being able to contain my anger, it bursted from the seams. "No, you made me lose my position in the glaive! You begged Drautos and he relieved me of my duties!"
Nyx fell silent after my small rampage. No words left his mouth as he kept his strong demeanor. He tried to grab me again, but I slapped his hand away. "I hope you're happy," I hissed. Without giving him a glance, I leave the grounds of the Citadel. Unconsciously, I had found myself in a park not far from the grand building.
Sighing, I sat on a bench and rested my head in my hands. The only thing I felt at the moment was betrayal. My own brother made me lose my place in the Kingsglaive. Now, I had no reason to go to the Citadel anymore. My thoughts were shattered when I heard a familiar gruff voice that I had fallen in love with.
"You alright?"
Gladio sat next to me, placing a gentle hand on my thigh. I couldn't even look up at him, ashamed at the scene I had made in front of the Citadel. "I guess... you heard my argument with Nyx?" Gladio moved his hand from my thigh to the top of my head. "Kinda hard not to," he replied with a slight chuckle.
"Yeah, I just completely lost it when I heard Drautos relieve me of my duties. A few members let the name of who did it slip. I never expected my own brother to do such a thing."
Gladio pulled my head towards his shoulder and leaned his against mine. "I understand why he did it, but I don't agree with the measures he took."
"I'll get a few punches in later."
"That's my girl," he chuckled deeply and stroked my (h/c) hair. We sat in a peaceful silence, watching the sun being consumed by the horizon. After thinking for awhile, an idea popped in my head. With a skip in my step, I jump up from the bench and place my hands on my hips.
"Ya know what? I've got an idea."
Gladio raised an eyebrow and leaned forward with eagerness flashing in his eyes. "And what's that, buttercup?" Grinning evilly, I met his gaze with my unwavering (e/c) eyes. "Meet me in the training room tomorrow. You'll see what I have up my sleeve."
As I was leaving, I went to say goodbye but was trapped in two strong arms. When I went to speak, Gladio pushed his tantalizing lips against mine. It was a short kiss but a very intoxicating one. "Don't do anything too careless, alright?" I nod and free myself from his embrace. "Have faith in me. I'm gonna make Nyx regret his decision."
-Next Morning-
Convincing Drautos of my idea, I headed to find Nyx. I had found him with Crowe and Libertus, chatting about what happened yesterday. I cleared my throat, grabbing their attention. "(Y/n)," Crowe's shock-filled voice rang out. With my arms crossed, I glared at Nyx. A guilty look was plastered on his face as our eyes met.
"Meet me in the training room. We've got a few things to settle."
"(Y/n)--"
"You have five minutes to prepare yourself. Also, if you back out, Drautos knows what to do with you."
Turning on my heels, I walk away from the gossiping trio. Opening the training room doors, I spotted the one person I desperately needed to see before my match against Nyx. Gladio beamed at me lovingly as I walked over to him. "So, what's this "plan" of yours?"
"To beat my brother in a match. If I win, Drautos will reinstate me into the Kingsglaive with my original position."
"Knowing you, you'll wipe the floor with his ass."
"This'll also be the perfect time to show I'm not some weak girl who needs protecting. Nyx needs to realize I'm no longer a little girl."
"I'll be cheerin' you on, (Y/n)."
"Hope so. I'll be needing your support through all of this," I reply cheekily. Gladio smirked and kissed me on the cheek. Just after the small token of luck, the door opened to reveal Nyx and Drautos. Following the two were Noctis, Prompto, and Ignis. Completely confused at why those three were here, the blonde noticed and ran over.
"Heard what happened from the big guy. We came to support you. After all, Noct tried to get Drautos to reinstate you, but he wouldn't budge."
"Thanks, Prom. I'll make sure to get my position back. Nyx is gonna regret doing what he did," I confidently declare. Prompto smiles and heads back over to the others with Gladio behind him.
"Are you ready?" Drautos asked. I nodded and glared at Nyx as I headed to the opposite side of the training room. My brother took his position at the other end, readying himself for the match. The captain stood to the side and listed off the rules of the match. Luckily, none were too strict. Nyx and I summoned our blades, waiting for Drautos to give the word. After a long silence, the captain finally commenced the dual.
Reading Nyx like a book, I dodge as he tried to warp next to me. I dodged to safety, creating an opportunity for me to strike. Lunging forward, I raised my blade to strike. Nyx recovered quickly and blocked my attack. Twisting my body to the side, I pulled my blade back and elbowed him in the gut. Not expecting the move, Nyx groans in pain from the surprise attack. Warping to the other side of the room, I watch Nyx disappear again.
His blade skimmed passed my face, nipping a few strands of hair. Not moving, I waited for his assault. When he reappeared, I immediately block his blade. When the two swords clashed, sparks flew from the contact.
"You've improved significantly since our last mission, (Y/n)," Nyx grunts, trying to push me away. "And you're still too easy to read, dear brother." I kick him in the gut, making him slide back on his heels. Pretending to attack head-on, I dash towards him. He immediately tried to counter-attack, but I threw my blade and warped behind him. I hit him in the spine with the hilt of my sword and make him collapse to the ground.
Nyx suddenly kicks my legs from underneath me. I fall to the hard floor and groan in pain. I shook my head to clear my vision and caught Nyx only inches from me with his blade at the ready. I act quickly before he was able to pin me and jump to my feet. His blade lodged into the floor where I was only a few seconds prior and I smirked while he tried to pry it free.
"Time to end this," I whisper to myself. I deliver a hard kick to his side which sends him rolling. He gasped for air as he tried to stand up. I warped to him and laid the edge of my blade at his neck. Nyx still gasped for air due to the blow I delivered a few seconds ago.
"(Y/n) shall be reinstated to the Kingsglaive. She also will receive her old position," Drautos announces, signaling the dual was over. Nyx, upon hearing the news, fell into shock. I salute the captain as he leaves the training room. Extending a hand, I offer to help my brother back to his feet. Breaking through his shock, he grabbed my hand and I hoisted him up.
"Nyx, I know you meant well, but it was heartless of you to do it behind my back. You are my brother and I respect you. Don't take matters that involve me into your own hands. I deserve to have a say in it if it does concern me," I calmly state.
"I know, (Y/n). It's just... you're the only family I have left. I couldn't bear to see you get killed. When I heard of our next mission, bringing you was not an option. That's why I went to the captain and begged him. Now that you kicked my ass, I'm really regretting my decision. I know I'm not the best brother, but I just wanted to protect you."
"I'll take care of protection details," Gladio chimed in, walking over and slinging an arm over my shoulders. Nyx smiled and placed a hand on Gladio's shoulder. "Knew I could trust you. She's in your capable hands now," Nyx replied.
"Nyx," I call him before he could leave the training room. He stopped in his tracks and listened closely to my words. "You're not a bad brother. I'd never trade you for anyone else." His smile widens and he leaves.
Gladio pulled my body close and kissed my forehead. "Guess this means everything is back to normal."
"That's a word with no room in our relationship."
"Are you sayin' we're a weird couple?"
"The weirdest."
