~3rd Person POV~

"We should call it a night," Ignis said from behind the wheel. They all agreed, the advisor driving to the nearest safe place. The moon loomed overhead eerily and casted down a bright beam of light, creating shadows at every corner.

Suddenly, Ignis slammed on the brakes, bringing the Regalia to a screeching halt. "I'm tired of these horror film rejects. Let get this over with," Gladio growled, getting out with his companions. They watched as two Red Giants emerged from the darkness before them. The fiery glow of their blades made them easier to see in the night.

The four friends kept their sights on one Red Giant. They wanted to make sure to work together and defeat one instead of breaking into two teams. They annihilate the first Red Giant and set their sights on the second one.

When Noctis went to attack, the Red Giant suddenly fell to its knees and vanished. "What the hell?" He whispered under his breath. When he was able to see passed the disappearing daemon, he saw a figure with black robes and a scythe slung over their shoulder.

"A daemon killed one of their own?" Prompto pondered.

"Oh, how rude," a feminine voice escapes the black hood that covered the person's face. The tone feigned hurtfulness, but then returned to normal. "Daemons don't speak," Gladio said, cautious of the person.

"No need for alarm, Prince Noctis," the person responds, pulling down the black hood. (H/c) hair fell from the hood, blowing gently in the faint breeze. (E/c) eyes pierced through the darkness like a beacon.

"How do you--"

"I am the one who helped ease your ancestors on their journey to the afterlife. Guiding their pure, beautiful souls to the hands of the gods was an honor," she said, silencing the prince. Noctis studied the girl closely. When he finally realized who she was, his eyes widened.

"(Y/n)."

"Right on the nose, Your Highness. In the former Crown City, countless of depictions are strewn about of me. You also will find my presence in all the royal tombs."

"The Reaper of the Great Kings. A title known all over the Crown City. What brings a deity such as yourself to our aid?" Ignis questions.

"King Regis' soul was recalcitrant when freed from his shackles of his human body. Worry for you consumed his being, making his soul difficult to appease. I am here on his behalf, hoping to pass on a message to help him finally rest."

"How can I help?" Noctis asked the reaper.

"I shall meet you in the Tomb of the Clever. It is located in the Balouve Mines in the Leide region. Be wary, for a strong daemon blocks your path. I shall help you defeat the stubborn thing, but I ask you be prepared for a resilient battle."

"Thank you, (Y/n)."

She bows and vanishes in a dark mist. Everyone was quiet, taking in what had just happened. "So... we just met the reaper who put the other Kings to rest?" Prompto asked.

"Yes. (Y/n) is a deity of death. She reaps those whose time on Eos has expired and delivers their souls to the gods above," Ignis states to clear up the blonde's confusion.

"I've only seen her as statues and in paintings. My father talked about her in high regards, but this was the first time I've seen her in person," Noctis said, continuing to stare at the spot where (Y/n) only stood minutes ago. Her words rang deep within him.

"She seemed very worried about His Majesty's soul," Gladio spoke up.

"Indeed. Let us head to the Balouve Mines in the morning. We'll stop at an outpost before delving into the mines," Ignis exclaimed.

The group reached a haven and were able to rest. All were aware of the battle ahead and rested up.

-Next Morning-

The Balouve Mines entrance welcomed them with a dark embrace. All felt the malevolence from the daemons that dwelled within the shadows. The four were skeptical about the elevator but knew it was the only way to reach the lower levels of the mine. Reaching the next level of the mine, they were greeted by a black mist.

The friends recognized the black mist from (Y/n). She soon appeared before them with a smile. "Good, you made it."

"I want to help my father rest," Noctis proclaims in a strong tone. "Just the answer I wanted to hear. Once we reach the tomb, you shall collect the royal arm. After that is complete, I will be able to summon your father's soul. It will be for a short time, but it will be long enough to convey anything you wish."

Noctis was overjoyed by her words. Though it will be a short meeting, he would get to see his father one last time. "Then, follow me, gentlemen." Following the reaper, they headed deeper into the mines. So far, the only enemies they've encountered are goblins. Their worst opponent at the moment were the mine carts that flew down the tracks. One came speeding towards Noctis. He suddenly felt a cold hand wrap around his wrist, pulling him to safety. Without looking, he could tell who had saved him. "Thanks, (Y/n)."

"Of course, Prince Noctis. Your time is not yet up in this beautiful world. It would be a shame to report that the future King was slaughtered by a rogue mine cart."

"That... sounds ridiculous."

"Glad you agree. The goblins are small, but they do have functioning brains. Be careful of where you walk in these narrow mines."

The five reach a small bridge made of sturdy wood. Standing across from them was the daemon (Y/n) had warned them about. "There is our obstacle, an Aramusha. The Katana it wields proves to be sharp on both sides. A blow from the backside of the sword will cause death by one laceration to any part of the body. Also, beware of its dark elemental attacks."

The Aramusha charged at them, but (Y/n) parries its Katana with her scythe. She pushed the daemon back, demanding that everyone jump down. "What?! That's suicide!" Prompto shouts.

"Trust me. The drop isn't long," she states while swinging her scythe at the powerful daemon. Noctis trusted in her, jumping to the floor below. One by one, they leaped into the darkness. Just as she said, the four reached the bottom within a few seconds.

The scythe and Katana clash once more before the Aramusha vanished. (Y/n) clicked her tongue in annoyance at the daemon that had just fled. Regrouping with the others, she guided them through the mines with very little trouble. The temperature dropped drastically as they proceeded.

The five enter a vast open area of the mines. Their eyes laid upon the Aramusha trudging around the center of the newly discovered area. "Time to kick some ass," Gladio grins, summoning his broadsword. Noctis summoned his javelin and performed a warp-strike. The attack created an opening and a strong advantage in their favor. Heeding (Y/n)'s words helped them dodge the daemon's dark elemental attacks and prevent life threatening injuries.

Noctis was able to get behind the Aramusha and deliver the final blow. Prompto sung a small victory chant after the battle, cheering everyone up just a bit. (Y/n) ridded her grasp of her scythe and gestured to a set of stairs left by miners. "I shall await you in the tomb, Prince Noctis."

"Hold on, (Y/n)," he called out to her. She turned with a raised eyebrow, waiting for him to continue. "Juts call me Noctis or Noct. I hate formalities." The reaper smiles brightly and nods to him. "Understood, Noct." Hearing his nickname roll off her tongue made the young prince smile in return. She vanished into dark mist and waited for him in the royal tomb.

Noctis climbed his way up while his friends waited for him. Squeezing through a small crevice, he found the entrance of the royal tomb. With the key Cor gave him, he unlocked the door and was greeted by a smiling (Y/n). She stepped to the side, gesturing to the royal arms that laid before them. Noctis walked over to his ancestor and claimed the power of the king.

Noctis' attention was once drawn to (Y/n). She stuck her hands out, asking he take them. He nods, grasping on to her much smaller hands. Gasping, his soul was taken to a field of beautiful flowers. Looking around, he saw he was not alone. A little ways further, he saw his father smiling at him. Noctis' eyes widen and he runs to his deceased father.

"Seeing you once more before being guided to the gods is an honor, my son. I have burdened you with a task that not even I could help with."

"N-no, it's not a burden at all. I'm glad I am able to see you one more time and appease your soul. Everything you've done for me, I never thanked you properly. I hope you will forgive me, Father."

King Regis shook his head. "You have no need to beg for forgiveness. You are a stubborn boy, but I know you have always been grateful for all you have been gifted with."

Tears began to sting the corner of the prince's eyes. King Regis placed a hand on his son's shoulder, gently squeezing it. "Walk tall, my son. Our time must be cut short. No matter where you go, I will always be by your side."

Noctis wasn't able to answer his father. The tears flooded from his eyes, enabling him to only nod. King Regis' body begins to fade away from view. Noctis tried to reach out to his father but all he grabbed was air. He closed his eyes and felt his soul return to his body. When he opened his eyes, his vision was obscured by tears. Noctis was gripping (Y/n)'s hands tightly for reassurance.

"Thank you, (Y/n)," he sniffed. Noctis let go of her hands and felt her wipe away his tears. "You shall reunite with your father in the heavens. Don't let anybody try to say otherwise. Just don't join him too soon."

Noctis nods and finally ceases crying. "Oh, I almost forgot. Your mother wished for me to pass on a small present in her place." Confused at what she meant, Noctis stood completely still. (Y/n) placed her hands on his cheeks and kissed him on the forehead. The prince was shocked at the sudden kiss. (Y/n) let go of his face and smiled. "She wishes for you to have a prosperous life. She is saddened that she had to leave your side at such a young age."

Noctis hasn't heard about his mother in years. Hearing those few words from (Y/n) sent a wave of relief through his body. "I must go and help your father. If you ever need to summon upon me, do not hesitate. I shall be by your side when you most need me. Our souls are connected together just like puzzle pieces. Being a king, your soul is easy to seek out and find in this darkening world. For now, we must depart. Do take care of yourself, Noct. Farewell."

With those final words, (Y/n) vanished.
