~(Y/n)'s POV~
"Heads up!"
At the sound of Tidus' voice, I turned to see a blitzball heading straight for me. I didn't have time to dodge, resulting in the ball hitting me in the face. The force from the object caused me to fall backwards. Once I had landed on the ground, the pain came in small waves. My vision was a little blurry thanks to the impact of the ground.
"(Y/n), are you okay?"
As my vision clears, I could see Tidus looking down at me with a worried gaze. "Y-yeah, but my whole face and head hurt, you idiot," I groan. He offers me a hand and helps me to my feet. "Sorry 'bout that. Didn't mean to hit the ball in this direction."
"Uh-huh, sure," I mumble, unconvinced. Tidus heard my tone and tried to defend himself further. I shook it off and laughed. "I'm just messing with you. Just... make sure people aren't around when you're throwing the blitzball. I know you're training for the tournament, but don't kill anyone." He chuckles and carries the ball under his arm.
"Alright, alright, I won't kill anyone with it."
"Good. I'll see you later. I've gotta put some ice on my face. The stinging sensation is coming."
Tidus and I wave farewell to each other and I head deeper into Zanarkand. Finding a shop with ice, I ask the owner if I could have a bag. As he prepared my item, he glanced at me. "My dear, what happened?"
"A blitzball to the face," I answer. The old man smiles sympathetically as he hands the bag of ice over. Before I could place the amount for the ice on the counter, he stopped me. "On the house, sweetheart. Just promise to take care of the wound before it worsens."
I thank him and leave with a bag of ice on my face. Seeing the sun was only at its peak, I headed to the water's edge and gazed out towards the sea. The ice began to melt, making the bag squish under pressure. Looking over the edge, I glanced at my reflection. "Well, the swelling's gone down. Thanks for the huge nose, Tidus," I said, the last part filled with sarcasm.
My thoughts were interrupted by a strong gust of wind. Confused, I looked up to see a small rift in the sky. "W-what in the world?" As I stared at the strange phenomenon, four figures fell out of the tear in the sky. I dodged the first three, but the last one landed on top of me, squishing my body to the ground.
"Ouch..." I whimper in pain. Hearing the four of them groan from their impact, I saw they were four strange men. The one on top of me finally began to move. His face was only inches from mine when his eyes flew open. As he stared at me with wide blue eyes, I begged him to get off of me. "O-oh, y-yeah! I'm sorry!" He quickly gets off of my crushed body.
"Uh, where are we?" One of them asked. The one that crushed me had blonde hair and blue eyes. The one asking questions has raven colored hair. The other two were finally standing up and helping their friend. The blonde helped me to my feet and suddenly gasped. "What's wrong?" I asked casually.
"Your nose is bleeding."
"What?!" I yell out. Wiping a finger along the bottom of my nose, blood covered the tips. "I-I didn't mean to! I'm so sorry!" He frantically apologizes profusely. "Iggy, we need help over here!" He shouts to the man with glasses. Hearing his name, the man quickly composes himself and approaches me. Before he could touch my nose, I stepped away from him.
"I can take care of it myself," I defend.
"B-but..." The blonde splutters.
I silenced him with the wave of my hand. "Listen, I was hit in the face earlier. You falling on me had nothing to do with it."
The boy sighed and relaxed at my words. The other two stood not far away, looking around with confusion. "Since you four aren't from here, welcome to Zanarkand. If you'd like, I could show you around until you get your bearings."
"Much appreciated," the man with glasses bowed politely.
"Can I have the names of the strange men who fell from the sky?" I ask, giggling at my own words. The four introduced themselves with smiles. Feeling relaxed at the sight I gave them my name. "(Y/n)."
"You said this place was called 'Zanarkand'?" Noctis asked. I nodded and gestured to the large stadium behind us. "And this is the Blitzball stadium. It's all the rage within the city these days. Assuming you're not from here, you all have no clue what it is."
"How can you tell we aren't from here, besides the rift?" Gladio asked.
"Your clothes. Although dressed nicely, the outfits you wear are clearly not normal attire here."
"Smart girl," Gladio said.
"And very observant," Ignis adds.
"So, shall we walk through the city?" I ask. Prompto was the first to nod eagerly, followed by his friends. The four stayed behind me all the way through Zanarkand. Each one of them had plenty of questions, which I happily answered all to the best of my abilities. As the tour came to a close, I realized the sun was setting.
"Wow, didn't realize it was so late. I hope I didn't run my mouth too much," I said in embarrassment.
"Not at all, (Y/n)," Ignis said.
"You all are too kind. If you need anything, don't hesitate to come to me. My apartment is only a few minutes from the hotel."
"Thanks a lot, (Y/n)," Prompto said. I wave to them and run back to my apartment for the night.
-Next Morning-
All through the night, my thoughts were filled with those four. In my heart, I hoped they would come and see me again. They were very sweet and friendly to me yesterday. Walking the streets, I heard the voice of Tidus.
"Must be practicing again..." I mumble to myself. When I turned around, I yelled in surprise. "You know it, (Y/n)!" Tidus laughs, holding the blitzball under one arm. "Oh, but I haven't killed anyone."
"Good. It'd be ashamed if one of the Abes was taken into custody because he killed someone with a blitzball," I tease. Tidus chuckles and suddenly leans in close. "Your nose looks much better."
"Oh, yeah. It's completely healed. And, to make you feel worse, you made it bleed yesterday."
"Are you gonna hold this over my head for the rest of my life?"
"No, I'll drop it once you win the Ject Memorial Cup."
Tidus smiles and sticks his hand out. "Promise?"
I roll my eyes playfully and place my hand in his. "Promise." He pumps a fist in the air and runs off with a few more members of the Abes.
"Oh, (Y/n)!" Hearing my name, I look for whom it came from.
"Oh, good morning, Prompto," I greet him with a smile as he runs over. He beams back and suddenly his cheeks turn red. "U-um, if it's alright with you, c-could we go around the city again?"
"Just you?"
He nods and shies away. I laugh and grab one of his hands. "Sure. Let's go!" His blush deepens as I guide him through the busy streets of Zanarkand again. Hearing his stomach rumble, I dragged him into a small café and bought him some breakfast. Having already eaten, I simply order a warm cup of tea. Our conversation ran on for hours. Prompto told me about Eos while I shared all my knowledge about Spira. Our worlds may be different, but we do share similar threats of war.
After discussing our homes, we moved on to ourselves. Turns out, we had much more in common than I had imagined. Finishing at the café, I took him to places that caught his eye. By the time we checked the time, it was around 3 o'clock.
"Time sure flies when I'm with you, (Y/n)," he comments.
"I'm glad to make your day adventure-filled. I know you make my days more bright. I don't have many friends here. I only have Tidus, but he's always practicing. I can't even remember the last time we hung out like proper friends." I felt tears prick the corner of my eyes at my own words. No family and one friend who I rarely get to hang out with.
Suddenly, Prompto was in front of me and placed his hands on my face, making me look at him. His cheeks were, once again, burning a red tint as our eyes met. "(Y/n), do you believe in... uh, um..."
He crashed over his own words while trying to tell me something.
"Believe in what?" I urge. He swallows hard and takes a deep breath, finishing his previous thought. "Love at first sight?" I felt as if my eyes would pop out of my head from shock at his sudden question. Feeling super conscious of how close we were, I was becoming embarrassed. "W-why the s-sudden question?"
"B-because... I-I do."
"P-Prompto..." My voice trails off. Determination and resolve flashed in his eyes and he leaned in until our lips connected like puzzle pieces. Even though the kiss wasn't deep, it was intoxicating. My whole body felt weak to the sweet sensation of his soft lips. We broke apart when the need for air arose.
"Am I moving too fast?" He asked, his tone laced with sadness. He must fear I will say yes and push him away. Pushing my embarrassment aside, I smile warmly at him. "Not at all. I'm really happy that I won't have to be alone anymore," I said, tears escaping my eyes.
His own smile adorned his face, bringing me into another kiss. Our moment was ruined when I heard whistling and a ball heading our way. Prompto noticed and took the hit for me. Anger flared inside me and I turned to see smirking Abes with a scared Tidus. I pulled up my sleeves and stomped over to him. "You're gonna pay for that!" I shout and chase after him.
