~Roxy's POV~

"That's another round to me, Your Highness," I smirk to Noctis. He grumbles incoherently as he gets to his feet. "That's the seventh round you've won, Roxy," he mumbles. The ruby embedded on my blade shone in the sun as I dismiss my Katana. The smirk remained on my face as Noctis leaned against a nearby tree to sit down. I walk over to the exhausted prince and sat next to him.

Noctis rested his head on my shoulder as he traced the dragon tattoos on my arms. It was always a habit of his to trace either the tattoos on my arms or back. Feeling his fingers glide over my skin made chills shoot down my spine.

"You've gotta teach me a few moves. I'm getting my ass handed to me," he said.

"I might teach you. Counts if I feel like it," I snicker.

"Who taught you?"

His sudden question made my whole my stiffen. Noctis noticed and gave me a worried gaze. I took a deep breath and sighed.

"Maybe... it's time you deserve to learn about my past. It... won't be pretty."

Noctis twirled a strand of my pink, purple hair around his finger. He kissed the locks and gave me a warm smile. "If it's too painfully, you don't have to tell me."

"Actually, telling you will lift a tremendous weight off my chest."

Noctis scooted in closer and began to listen intently. I smiled at his behavior and began from the beginning.

-Flashback-

Mother took me to the market in the middle of town. She needed vegetables for a new dish she was going to make for me and Father. While we were shopping, the sound of loud voices and gunshots rang out. Mother grabbed me and dragged me away from the market.

My attention was drawn not far from where our house was. A man with a fleet of armed men behind him aimed their weapons at everyone. When one man moved, one soldier shot him in the head. Mother grabbed me and covered my eyes to hide the bloody sight.

"I am General Nero. We've come to your quant little town for one thing only. If you comply, we shall harm no one. But if you don't... well, let's try our best to avoid the matter."

His eyes scanned over everyone. His bloodlust eyes landed on a little girl clinging to her father. General Nero nods to the girl, signaling his men to grab her. They pried the girl off of her father and dragged her away while screaming and kicking. "Let my daughter go!" The father shouts. One of the soldiers knock him unconscious with the butt of their gun. The little girl cries out for her father, but receives no response.

"Grab all the children you can," Nero commands. The soldiers split and begin tearing children away from their parents one after another. One soldier saw me and made his way over. Mother tried to stop him, but he shoved her to the ground. "Mother!" I shout as the soldier picks me up. I scratch at him, but his armor prevents any damage. He drags me over to General Nero and holds me with a death grip.

"Now, if you all wish to see the light of another day, you will let us take these children."

"You can't take my daughter!" My mother shouts.

"You will leave town only if we hand over the children?" The man I recognized as our town marshal asked. General Nero nods. All the parents look towards the marshal. He met their gazes and the other residents of the town.

"All in favor?" He asked. When most of the people raised their hands, I felt my heart drop. "No, no! You can't have my Roxy!" Mother shouts. She tries to run over, but the marshal stops her. "It's either the children or the whole town! Also, I don't believe General Nero will hurt them."

"Oh, we would never think about hurting them," Nero replies. The marshal nods, signaling for the soldiers to drag us out of town. Many parents cried as they saw us be thrown into an airship.

An hour later, we arrived at a hideout. The soldiers dragged us to a dark room. General Nero stood in front of us with a frightening smirk. "Let's see how many of you will fall." We all flinched at his rough cackle. The soldiers gave us weapons, confusing us. General Nero snapped his fingers and a group of men entered with tied up prisoners.

"You must kill these men to fight another day. If you refuse, you will be killed on the spot." General Nero pointed to one little boy next to me. One soldier dragged him towards a prisoner. The boy was shaking as he looked down at the man. The little boy took a step back, earning a snap from General Nero. The soldier aimed a gun at the boy and shot him in the head.

I scream out as the boy falls to the ground in his own blood. The other children began to cry and whine. General Nero then looked back at us and gestured to me. "Send her over."

The soldier behind me brought me over to one prisoner. Knowing the consequences, I gripped the blade in my hand. "P-please..." The man begs. I felt tears sting the corner of my eyes as I saw his broken state. "I'm sorry..." I whisper apologetically to him. His eyes widen as I pierce his heart with the blade.

General Nero claps happily and laughs like a maniac. "She will do just fine."

-Seven Years Later-

"Roxy, report!" General Nero shouts for me. Now being twelve, I salute him properly. I noticed that the other ten children who survived along with me were also here. The General looks down at me with a wicked smile. "To commemorate your success, I will be sending you to your hometown. I'm sure your parents miss you dearly."

Something about his words threw me off. I ignored it and boarded an airship with the others. The time it took to get there felt like hours. We finally land and I jump out of the airship. I ran as fast as my legs could carry me to my hometown. When I reached the entrance, the smell of blood was strong. As I looked closer, I saw the heads of countless of people on stakes. The air of the town was filled with death as I got a closer look at the head.

"No..." I mutter, placing a hand over my mouth to keep myself from throwing up. It was the head of my father, eyes wide with fear. I tore my eyes away and examined the other heads. The last one I found was my mother's. I yelled out in despair as the other children arrived. They saw their parents and began crying and wailing.

My knees gave out from under me as I sank to the blood-soaked dirt below. Tears streamed down my cheeks and mixed with the blood. I pounded my fists on the ground, over and over again. Blood soon leaked from my fists as I continued beating into the ground.

"They will pay..."

-Six Years Later-

The tattoo on my back throbbed as I walked through the Leide region. I had just gotten a lead on General Nero and his whereabouts. The hot sun was beating down on my form as I reach Prairie Outpost. Passing numerous people, I walk north of the outpost. An airship caught my attention, immediately recognizing whose it was. As I was approaching the ship, the General greets me.

"Well, well. If it isn't little Roxy! Now all grown up!" General Nero cackles as I sent him a death glare. I summon my Katana and prepare for a long fight. "Is that how you treat the person who taught you the way of the sword?" He glared back.

"I'm not killing the man who taught me my skills. I'm killing the man who slaughtered my parents!"

The soldiers, along with the General, readied their weapons. I advanced and took out the soldiers before attacking Nero. His sword was much heavier than mine, which left him open after heavy attacks. I could feel my heterochromia eyes fill with rage as our blades clashed with sparks.

"You've gotten much stronger since my teaching, Roxy," he grunts as I push him back.

"You have no idea what I'm capable of now, Nero. You will die where you stand," I growl. He brought his sword down, but I dodged out of the way. I jumped over him and drove my Katana through his chest. Nero cries out in pain as I yanked my blade out of his body. Blood poured from his chest as he tried to grab me. I took a step back, causing the man to miss and crumble to the ground.

"Even thought I can't bring my parents back, at least no one else has to suffer by your bloodied hands." I kick dirt onto his dead body and leave.

-Three Years Later-

I became a hunter and traveled across Leide and the Duscae region to take on hunts. While in Hammerhead eating dinner at Takka's Pit Stop, a boy with raven hair spilt ketchup on my crop top. He began to freak out, but I quickly calmed him down.

"Slow down and take a deep breath. It's not a big deal," I said while laughing at his frantic expression.

"Okay, I'm calm," he said as he took a few deep breaths.

"Now that your calm, help me clean up this mess."

"What about your shirt?"

"Nah, don't worry about it. I'll clean that later."

We finished cleaning the mess and he still kept apologizing. I pinch him on the arm to stop him. "Stop it. I'm fine."

"Y-yeah, sor--"

I raised an eyebrow and he cleared his throat. I smile and introduce myself. "Name's Roxy." He smiles back as he messes with his hair.

"Noctis."

-End Flashback-

"And now... here we are," I said, gesturing to our surroundings. Noctis hadn't said a single thing. Even though no words came from his mouth, I could tell by his eyes he was shocked, intrigued, and sad about my past.

I smile and ruffle his raven hair. "Don't say you feel bad for me. I'll punch you if you do." Noctis shook his head and finally found his voice. "I thought I had it bad."

"I will only say this once: meeting you changed my life. I'm glad you did spill ketchup on me at Takka's. We wouldn't be here right now if you didn't. I also wouldn't have amazing friends like Prompto, Gladio, and Ignis."

Noctis smiled and pulled me towards him. Our lips collided in a passionate kiss. He ran his fingers through my hair as I messed with his soft locks. I tilted my head to deepen the kiss further to a point where my body began to melt. As we pulled away, both of us were panting. Noctis leans his forehead against mine and stared at me with eyes brimming with passion.

"I love you, Roxy."

"Love you too, ketchup boy."
