~(Y/n)'s POV~
"So..."
"So, what?"
"Where are we?" I ask.
"Don't know, but we'll find out," Cloud said as we hopped on his bike. I huff as I wrap my arms around his waist. Cloud placed his goggles over his eyes and started the engine. As he sped off, my grip around his waist tightened.
"There's a place to stop," I said, pointing to a sign that said "Galdin Quay". Cloud turns down the winding road and I began to see crystal blue water. I gasped at the beautiful sight. Cloud pulled into the parking lot and parked his bike. We got off the vehicle and Cloud immediately turned to me.
"Stay out of trouble, (Y/n). I'm going to ask around," he said. Once he turned his back, I began to mock him. When I realized he was still looking at me, I laughed nervously and waved him off. A small smirk spread across his face as he turned his back to me.
The sight of the beautiful beach made me gasp. I ran down the steps and took off my shoes. The small waves lapsed over my feet. I sighed in ecstasy when the cold water hit my sore, aching feet. Sitting down on the soft sand, I let myself get lost in the breathtaking scenery. My (h/c) blew in the cool breeze that swept across the beach.
"U-um, excuse me?"
I heard someone behind me and looked over my shoulder. A boy with blonde hair, blue eyes, and a camera stood not far. His cheeks were red as tomatoes for some reason.
"I'm sorry. Am I blocking your shot?" I ask. The boy shook his head frantically.
"N-no! I was wondering if... um... you would p-pose for a picture?"
I sent the boy a smile and jumped to my feet.
"I'd love to!"
My answer made his blush darken a few shades. I stood with the ocean to my back as he got to one knee and snapped a picture. I made sure to smile before he clicked the shutter button. He examines the picture and his blue eyes lit up. "Wow, it's perfect!" I giggle and walked over to him.
"May I see?" He nods with a smile, showing me the pictures. I gasp in awe at the beautiful picture. "You're an amazing photographer," I comment.
"T-thanks," he shyly replied.
"Found him!" A voice shouts. The two of us turned around and saw three others approach us. "Should've known he was hitting on a girl," the biggest one sighs. The one with raven hair smacked the bigger one on the arm. "Hey, lay off."
"I was not hitting on her!" The blonde shouts. I was about to defend him, but someone called my name.
"(Y/n), let's go." Cloud's voice cut through the playful atmosphere. His stern expression made me shrink a little. He sent a glare to the blonde boy who took a picture of me. I ran over to Cloud and pinched him on the arm. He winced as I let go. "Don't glare at him like that. He was very sweet to me."
I sent a smile to the four strangers. "I hope we get to meet each other again and properly introduce ourselves. And--" I turned my full attention to the cameraman. "I hope you'll share more photos with me."
He sent me a warm smile, making my heart flutter. Cloud grabs my wrist and drags me back to his bike. I peered into his face and saw he was moping. A wicked grin spreads across my face as we reached his bike. Once he released my wrist, I jumped in front of him. "Okay, what's wrong?" I place my hands on my hips with raised eyebrows.
Cloud crossed his arms and looked down at me. "Don't get close to strangers." I roll my eyes at his over-protectiveness.
"Cloud, he was nice! Stop being so dramatic! How am I supposed to make friends if you won't let me?"
Cloud looked down with a guilty expression. "Sorry, it's just..."
His silence made me feel a little sad. I placed a hand on his arm in reassurance. "I know you miss Zack. He was my brother and I miss every day. I won't get hurt, I promise. I'd be breaking a promise to my brother if I did." Cloud finally smiled and ruffled my (h/c) hair. "I know, (Y/n). I'd also be breaking a promise I made to him if I did let you out of my sights."
"You and Zack made a lot of promises. I'm kinda curious to what some of them were."
Cloud began to blush and turned away. "Let's get going," he quickly changed the subject. I giggle and we hop on his bike and depart.
~3rd Person POV~
Prompto watched as the beautiful girl walked away with a man to the parking lot. "It seems she's already taken, Prom," Gladio said. Prompto sighed sadly and looked at the picture of the girl on his camera screen with gloomy blue eyes.
"Well, at least you got her name... by accident," Noctis said and patted his best friend on the back. "A fine young lady, indeed," Ignis compliments.
"Too bad we didn't get to talk long. She was really sweet," Prompto mumbles. "C'mon, buddy. Cheer up. I'm sure we'll see her again," Noctis said, trying to cheer him up. Prompto nods and they head back to the Regalia. As he sat in the passenger's seat, he kept his eyes glued to the picture of (Y/n).
Ignis drove until the sun set beyond the horizon. "We should find a haven," he said. Noctis and Gladio agreed while Prompto just ignored them. His head hung in despair. The only thoughts that raced through his mind were of (Y/n). While trying to find a safe haven for the night, the sound of someone fighting a daemon nearby caught their attention. Prompto jolted up in his seat and leaned out of the window.
"Hey, isn't that the guy who was with the girl?" Gladio asked. "Y-yeah, but where's (Y/n)?" Prompto asked as he frantically looked around. "Ignis, pull over!" Noctis shouts. The advisor slams on the brakes and pulls the Regalia over. Once out of the car, Prompto spotted the (h/c) haired girl face-down on the ground with the bike laying on top of her body. He gasped and ran as fast as he could.
"Prom, help her! We'll help him!" Noctis shouts. Without needing to be told, Prompto was already running towards (Y/n). He saw she was still breathing which made most of his worry fade. Prompto carefully took the bike off of her body and scooped her up in his arms. A small whimper of pain escaped her lips as he adjusted her in his hold. "S-sorry," he whispers to her. The other four took care of the Iron Giant while Prompto laid (Y/n) in the backseat of the car.
"(Y/n)!" The man with her ran over to the car and checked on the beaten up girl. The other three ran over to the car as well. "Iggy, could you check over her injuries?" Prompto asked with a hint of desperation in his voice. The advisor nods and begins to examine (Y/n)'s wounds.
"How did this happen?" Noctis asked the man. He sighed and paced back and forth. "That thing appeared out of nowhere. (Y/n) pushed me off the bike as it swung its blade down. She barely missed the blade, which caused her to fall off and the bike fell on her. I should've stopped her, but the thing wouldn't let me get close to her." He ran his hands through his spiky blonde hair with worry.
"Calm down. She'll be fine," Gladio said.
When Ignis touched her ankle, she shot up and screamed in pain. "What did you do to her?!" The man shouts at Ignis. The advisor turned to calmly address him. "A sprained ankle, none the less. Besides that, she is fine."
"Let's find a haven," Noctis said. They all agreed with the prince, even the man traveling with (Y/n). "Keep her with you. I'll follow behind on my bike," he said. "I'll sit in the front. Prom, you're in charge of her." Gladio got in the front seat with a triumphant smirk. Prompto propped (Y/n) up so Noctis could get in. Once safely in, Prompto slid next to the injured girl.
He pulled (Y/n) into his lap so her legs wouldn't be on Noctis. Her head rested on his shoulder as he cradled it with one hand. Prompto whispered sweet nothings into her ear to calm her racing heart. "Thank you," she whispers back and closes her eyes. Prompto sighed in relief once he saw she had fallen asleep.
They reached a haven not far from Hammerhead and called it a night. Prompto scooped (Y/n) into his arms and carried her with caution. They all set up camp while Prompto and the mysterious man watch over the sleeping girl.
"I wanted to apologize for my behavior earlier," the man said as his eyes never left (Y/n)'s sleeping form. "Hey, don't worry about it. You were just trying to protect someone close to you. Is (Y/n) your girlfriend?" Prompto asked the question that's been bugging him ever since Galdin Quay.
"No, but... never mind. I promised her brother I would watch over her. He died a few years ago."
Prompto felt tears sting the corner of his eyes. His grip on (Y/n) tightened as he imagined her crying. He shook the image away and cleared his head. "Prompto," he simply said. The man glanced at Prompto with a smile. "Cloud," he responds. Prompto also took the opportunity to introduce his other companions.
"And you already know (Y/n)," Cloud said. Prompto smiled down at the peaceful girl.
Camp was finally set up. Prompto placed (Y/n) in the tent with help from Cloud. Ignis tended to her sprained ankle with caution. "She needs rest. I suggest we head to a hotel in the morning. She will also avoid confrontations. It would irritate her ankle only further if she pushed herself." Cloud nods and thanks the advisor.
"Keep an eye on her for me, Prompto." Cloud stood up and left the tent. Prompto saw sadness flicker in his eyes before he left. The blonde watched over (Y/n) until he fell asleep.
-Next Morning-
Prompto woke up and saw (Y/n) was awake as well. He noticed she was having a hard time getting to her feet. "Here, let me help," he said as he supported her body. She smiles and thanks him. "Y'know, I don't even know my savior's name," she giggled lightly. Prompto smiled and told her his name. He also told her the names of his friends. They chatted up a storm until everyone else woke up.
With the campsite all packed, they headed to Lestallum. (Y/n) continued to ride in the Regalia because she couldn't mount the bike with her sprained ankle. Prompto was secretly grateful she was able to ride with them. It was the perfect chance for everyone to learn her and Cloud's story. They learned a bunch about her and Midgar on the way to Lestallum.
Arriving at their destination, Prompto helped (Y/n) out of the car. He guided her to Leville so they could get rooms. Once successful, Prompto's biggest challenge was getting her up the long staircase. (Y/n) glanced at Prompto as an idea came to mind. "Okay, how about we--"
Before she could finish, Prompto picked her up in his arms and carried her up the stairs. He let her go once he reached the door to her room. He kept an arm around her waist while unlocking the door. Once inside, he placed her on the soft bed. She giggled and flopped on her back. "So soft~!" She chants. Prompto smiled and sat at the foot of her bed while watching her. They started a friendly conversation and found out they both love Chocobos.
Their happy moment was interrupted when Cloud opened the door. (Y/n) greeted him with a smile and a wave of her hand. Cloud smiled and stood in front of her. "The others have asked me to go on a hunt with them. We're going to need more gil if we plan to stay here awhile. I'm leaving you in Prompto's care."
The cameraman jumped to his feet in shock. He thought Cloud only trusted him with (Y/n) when he was around. "A-are you sure?" He asked. Cloud nods and pats (Y/n) on the head. "We'll be back in a few hours. Make sure she stays in bed." Prompto playfully salutes Cloud as he leaves. "So... what should we do?" She asked.
"Wanna play cards?" He asked.
"Let's do it."
-A Week Later-
Cloud graciously put (Y/n) in Prompto's care for a whole week. He stayed with her while the others went on hunts so Cloud could get more gil. The blonde wasn't complaining at all. Her presence made his whole day better. Her smile lit up his heart with joy. The two grew super close as the hours flew by.
Since (Y/n) had fully recovered, Prompto decided to take her on a stroll around Lestallum. They had a delicious lunch and their final stop was the overlook. He told her the story of the Disc as she gaped at the sight. Once both of them went silent, Prompto changed the topic to a serious one.
"Hey, (Y/n)? What if I said that I... like you?"
Her eyes shot wide open. Her body froze at the words. Prompto realized this and began to freak out. "Gods, I'm sorry! I shouldn't have--"
"What if I said I like you, too?"
Prompto gasped at her question. (Y/n) looked down with red cheeks. His heart and mind raced as he replayed her words. "Y-you like me?" He finally asked. She nodded meekly and hid her face with her (h/c) hair. "I know Cloud likes me, but... he's been like a brother to me ever since Zack passed away."
"Zack told me."
The two spun on their heels and saw Cloud standing behind them. "Cloud, I--" He silence the girl with a smile. "Zack told me you thought of me as another brother when I told him I loved you." His sad smile made her heart ache. (Y/n) took a step towards him and took his hands in hers. "I'm sorry, Cloud. I'm hoping... me falling in love with someone else won't hurt our relationship. Ever since Zack passed, you were the only other person I had. Now--" She looked over her shoulder to gaze at Prompto. "I have him."
Cloud couldn't bring himself to pull her away from Prompto. He patted her on the head with a warm smile. "If you're not sick of me yet, I'd like to stay by your side as your brother." (Y/n) smiled and nodded. "Of course! There's no one who could take your place." Cloud kissed her on top of her head and pulled away. He directed his gaze to Prompto. "Don't let me find out you broke her heart."
"If I did that, I'd have to kick my own ass," Prompto grinned. Cloud chuckles at the blonde's words. "Yeah, you're in good hands." Cloud gave her one more pat on the head before he left. "Whew, I'm glad he understood. Now I can do this!"
(Y/n) grabbed Prompto by his collar and pulled him into a deep kiss. His eyes widened at her sudden action, but he soon fell into the clutches of ecstasy. The passionate kiss made both of them weak, almost to the point of collapse. The two broke apart, gasping for air.
"Can I topple over now?" (Y/n) asked. Prompto laughed and wrapped his arms around her waist. "Don't worry, I'll always catch you." (Y/n) giggled and hugged him in return.
"That was extremely cheesy, but I loved it."
