~(Y/n)'s POV~
"Chocobos, Chocobos, Chocobos~!" Prompto sang over and over again. Noctis just promised the blonde that we would head to the Chocobo outpost in Duscae. He was bouncing up and down with excitement like a child. Seeing him like this made my heart flutter, but I was afraid he would fall out of the car. "Prom, sit down. You're gonna fall out," I scold him. Prompto gives me an apologetic smile. "Sorry."
We arrived at Wiz's Chocobo Post. Seeing no birds around, Noctis went up to a man. Turns out, he was the owner of the outpost. "Name's Wiz. Y'all here for the Chocobos?" We all nod in unison. Wiz's expression soon fell. He told us of a Behemoth named Deadeye was loose in the area. All the Chocobos were on-edge because of the beast.
"If y'all are up to it, there's a reward." Those were the only words we needed to hear. Noctis accepted the hunt and we began our trek to Deadeye's last known location. When we heard the sound of trees snapping, we knew we were close.
"So, uh... how are we supposed to face this thing?" Prompto asked. "We'll worry about that later," Noctis replied. "What a reassuring answer..." I mumble under my breath. Prompto must've heard me because he began to snicker. Luckily, Noctis nor anybody else heard me.
We were about to proceed through a small crawl space, but Gladio stopped the prince. The brute decided to go first while Noctis went second. We crawled through the space and spotted the Behemoth. Prompto flinched when it turned this way.
"Well, that explains the name," I whisper. Gladio saw what I meant and gestures to his closed eye. "Deadeye... name says it all."
"It's blind on the right side," I said in a whisper. Our way forward was soon severed when Deadeye stuck its mouth in an opening between Noctis and Gladio. The Behemoth roared loudly, causing me to flinch. When I did, a warm sensation enveloped my hand. My (e/c) eyes met with Prompto's shimmering blue ones. His gaze and warm hand made my whole body relax. I thank him softly and we exit the crawl space once Deadeye was gone.
Our vision was hindered by a dense fog. "Wait," I said, grabbing everyone's attention. They all gave me confused looks. "Hide," I whisper to them. We hide behind a small rock formation. "What's wrong?" Noctis asked in a whisper. I placed a finger over my lips to silence him.
Their expressions all turned grave when we heard a familiar growling noise. "Follow me," I murmur. With Deadeye in front and the guys behind me, I was able to find the beast's den. "You're really good at tracking, (Y/n)," Prompto compliments. If only he knew what I truly was, then he would understand why my abilities are so strange and rare. "We've found its den thanks to (Y/n)," Gladio said.
"Yeah, I'm impressed," Noctis admitted. "Indeed," Ignis added. "Thank me after we kill Deadeye." I kept my eyes forward as we jumped over a fence. When Prompto jumped over, his foot caught the top of the fence. A scream erupted from him as his body fell. I tried to move out of the way in time, but his body landed right on top of me.
"Ouch..." I whimper, pain surging through my whole body. Prompto gasped and quickly got off of me. Worry was written all over his face as he sat next to me. "Nicely done, Prom. You just crushed your girlfriend," Noctis comments. Ignis ran over and kneeled next to me. "Are you alright?" I nod slowly and groan in pain as I try to get to my feet. Prompto wraps his arms around my body, helping me to my feet.
He held me close, apologizing repeatedly. "Prom, I'm fine. We've got a Behemoth to take down." Before I could move away, he moved his hands from my waist to my cheeks. He positioned my head to where I could only look at him. "Are you sure you're okay?" The worry in his eyes never left. I nod and lean forward, kissing him on the cheek. "Is that enough to reassure you?" I giggle as I watch his cheeks turn red.
"They're in their own little world," Gladio grumbles. This made us separate from each other. Ignis gave me a potion just in case I needed it from Prompto falling on me. I thank him and we continue on our way. Our footsteps grew quieter as we spotted Deadeye on a perch that overlooked its den. Noctis was about to jump out, but Ignis grabbed him before he was spotted. I kept an eye on the beast, ignoring the conversation between the prince and his advisor.
Deadeye roared, signaling our presence was known. "Dammit," Gladio growls under his breath. The drums of oil caught my attention. "Draw Deadeye to the drums and ignite them," I spoke. Our battle with the Behemoth began. I stayed beside Prompto while the others faced Deadeye head-on. With a wave of my hand, my staff materializes.
Prompto fired his pistol while I casted spells. About ten minutes into the battle, all the oil drums were gone. "We won't get anywhere at this rate!" Gladio yells in frustration. I tightened my grip on the staff. "We'll be killed if we stay the way we are," Ignis said, trying to sound calm. I grit my teeth and decide to show my true self. Without skipping a beat, I ran towards the Behemoth.
"(Y/n), no!" Prompto shouts desperately. Noctis, Gladio, and Ignis tried to grab me, but I dodged their arms with ease. Deadeye spotted me and swiped its claws at me. I leaped over its attack and transformed.
~3rd Person POV~
"W-what the hell?" Noctis gasped. All eyes were glued to the dragon that once was (Y/n). "S-she's a dragon?" Prompto asked in disbelief. Ignis was the first to snap back to reality. "It would explain her abilities."
"You mean the tracking and powerful magic?" Gladio asked, keeping his eyes on the dragon defending them from Deadeye. Ignis nods to confirm Gladio's answer. Prompto was unconsciously taking steps towards the battle. Gladio saw him and yanked him back from the two fighting beasts. "Let go!" He protested.
"And what are you gonna do? Help her?" Gladio glared down at the blonde. He swallowed hard and stopped squirming around. They all watched as
(Y/n) was able to rip off Deadeye's other horn. "Her size will be an advantage against the Behemoth," Ignis states. Prompto watched as she attacked the Behemoth. Worry grew inside of him as he watched the bloody battle. They took cover when Deadeye tried to jump onto (Y/n). She flung the Behemoth off of her as if the beast was light as a feather. Deadeye slammed into a small tower and growled in pain.
(Y/n) dug her claws into Deadeye's side and face. The Behemoth squirmed to free itself from under her. It was able to free one claw and scratch (Y/n). She roared in pain at the scratch that was now on her muzzle. She bit down on Deadeye's neck, delivering a fatal blow. The Behemoth thrashed once and suddenly stopped moving entirely.
Prompto pushed past his friends and ran to the dragon. He reached her and stretched out to touch her beautiful scales. (Y/n) saw this and took steps away from him. Prompto saw sadness pass through her golden eyes. His heart ached at the sight. "It's okay, (Y/n)." He gave her a warm smile to comfort her.
She relaxed and lowered her head slowly. The second he saw her getting closer, he opened his arms wide as if to hug her. When (Y/n) was close enough, he hugged her muzzle. The others saw the hug and approached them.
"So, uh..." Noctis started, but he couldn't find the right words. They all were dumbfounded at the fact that (Y/n) was a dragon. Prompto leaned his head against her azure scales, savoring the moment. He slowly closed his eyes and laughed when her breath tickled his neck. "You're amazing," he whispered to her. She closed her eyes in sheer bliss at his kind words. As he continues to rub her scales, a small growl of pleasure emitted from her throat.
"We should inform Wiz of the successful hunt," Ignis said, breaking the happy moment. Prompto groans and reluctantly lets go of (Y/n). A white light surrounds her body after he let go. Once the light dissipated, (Y/n) was back to her usual self.
"Um, do any of you have a spare potion? I... uh, accidentally dropped the one Iggy gave me earlier," she bashfully said. Gladio grinned and tossed her an elixir. "Gladio, I just need-"
"You used a lot of magic. This'll help better than a potion."
"He's right, (Y/n). Along with the scratch, you need to have your magic replenished," Ignis defends.
(Y/n) nods in defeat and accepts the elixir. Once she was healed and her magic was restored, they headed back to the Chocobo Post. Prompto noticed she would linger behind them as they walked back.
"(Y/n)," he called out her name in a gentle whisper. Her whole body froze when her name rolled off his tongue. Prompto saw that she was afraid. He took her small, warm hand into his. His heart hurt just looking at the fear in her (e/c) eyes. Without hesitation, Prompto's grip tightens around her hand, making (Y/n) relax.
The two held hands all the way back. Noctis reported that Deadeye was dead and the Chocobos were free of fear. Once Noctis received the gil for the hunt, all eyes fell on (Y/n). She looked down, guilty that they had to find out like this. Prompto refused to let go of her hand as the others gazed at her.
"(Y/n), we are not furious with you," Ignis said to comfort her. She meekly glances at them from the corner of her eye. "I'm... I'm sorry you had to learn about it this way." Her free hand traveled to the necklace around her neck. She fumbled with it which was a sign she was nervous. "You could've just told us," Noctis said.
"Well, it's not like I could just come out and say I'm a dragon. Would you've believed me?"
"Good point," Noctis chuckled. The small smile that spread across his face eased her. After she told them all of what she could do, no one could speak. The silence was making her fear rise again. When she was about to flee, they all began to smile. She was shocked by their expressions.
"Who cares if you're a dragon? You're still (Y/n)," Noctis beamed. "We would be Behemoth food right now if it weren't for you," Gladio added. "An incredible discovery, indeed." Ignis faint smile gave (Y/n) the urge to smile back. Prompto didn't need words to soothe her. He simply pulled her close and crushed her in his arms. The others knew that was a signal to leave the two lovebirds alone.
Once they left, Prompto nuzzled his cheek against (Y/n)'s. Her giggle was music to his ears. "Y'know, I think you're cuter than any Chocobo," he compliments. (Y/n) raised an eyebrow at the cameraman. "Any Chocobo?" He cheekily grins and kisses her on the lips. "Any Chocobo."
