~(Y/n)'s POV~
Our travels had lead us to take a bounty on a few Sabertusk. We were low on Gil so we decided to go hunting. The dry and hot climate of Leide was getting to all of us. I had jumped on Gladio's back after the heat was getting to me. He placed his hands under my legs so I wouldn't fall. Sweat poured from my body as if I were a fountain. Gladio didn't care and continued to carry me.
"Too... hot..." Prompto slumps against a rock as we stop for a short break. We've been walking for hours and haven't found any Sabertusks. At least Ignis brought water with him for all of us. I thanked him as he handed me my share. I jumped off of Gladio's back and landed on top of a nearby rock.
"You sure you're not a monkey?" Gladio asked with a smug grin. I stuck my tongue out at the bodyguard and made a funny face. My face had made Noctis and Prompto burst into laughter. Gladio just smiled and leaned against the rock I stood on.
After a small break, we continued our hunt. With no luck, we decided to trek back to the car. We all stopped in our tracks when an engine was heard. "Imperials!" Ignis shouts. We summon our weapons and wait for them to descend from the airship. A horde of Imperial Snipers and Magiteks began to attack.
"I bet I could get more than you," I chime to Gladio. He grins down at me. "You're on, (Y/n)." All five of us jump into battle. Some of the Magiteks proved to be difficult, but the Snipers were easy to get rid of. The battle continued on until all the enemies were gone. Everyone relaxed, except for me. Gladio stood next to me with a concerned look on his face. "One's missing..." I murmur to myself. Gladio must've heard me because he was now
on-alert.
I saw a red dot trained on Gladio's chest. "Gladio, move!" I shout and push the man out of the bullet's path. Before I could act, the Sniper pulled the trigger. I was unable to move out of the way and took the bullet.
~3rd Person POV~
When they heard the bullet being fired, Noctis was able to find the Sniper with ease. He killed the man with a simple warp strike. Gladio had fallen to the ground when (Y/n) pushed him. He heard Prompto yell out for the girl and bolted to his feet. Gladio saw the young girl's body on the ground, not moving an inch.
Fear consumed him as he ran to her. When he touched her skin, it felt cold. He quickly checked over her body to find the bullet wound. When he couldn't find it, his fear began to rise. Noctis, Prompto, and Ignis kneeled next to him. Their faces all showing fear.
Gladio reached for her (h/c) hair to move it out of her face. Blood covered his hand as he pushed the hair away. "Gladio," Ignis said, stopping him before he could get a good look at (Y/n)'s face. "She's... she's not breathing," Noctis barely said above a whisper. Gladio looked at her chest to see it wasn't rising.
"No..." He turned (Y/n)'s face towards his. Gladio gasped at the sight before him. The bullet had been shot cleanly through her head. "O-oh, Gods..." Prompto felt tears fall down his cheeks. Noctis looked away to prevent himself from crying.
(Y/n) had been a close friend with everyone for years. Her and Gladio were the closest. Before they set out on their journey, they had told their feelings to each other. Gladly accepted on both sides, they shared their first kiss. If Gladio would've known her first kiss would be her last, he would've done much more for her.
Her once sparkling, (e/c) eyes were now lifeless. The smile he loved so much would never be seen again. Ignis kept strong and stared sadly at her lifeless body. Gladio had gone into shock, not being able to accept that (Y/n) was dead. Ignis saw this and decided to close her eyes. He placed a hand on Gladio's shoulder which brought him out of his shocked state. "We should have a proper burial." Gladio nods and picks up her body in his arms.
"W-why did this happen?" Prompto asked as he held his head in his hands. "It's my fault..." Gladio meekly answered. "Gladio, it's not-" Noctis starts. "It is! I should be the one dead, not her!" Gladio shouts angrily. His grip on (Y/n)'s body tightens. "The only one to blame is the Empire," Ignis said to calm everyone down. Prompto walked away, crying his eyes out. A few tears escaped Noctis' eyes as he glanced at (Y/n) one more time.
"Where should we bury her?" Gladio asked, sadness taking over his voice. After deciding on a location, they decide to bury (Y/n) in Galdin Quay. They would lay her body to rest on a hill, overlooking Galdin Quay. With the dead girl in his arms, Gladio got into the Regalia. No one said a word as they headed to Galdin Quay. They arrived at a small hill that overlooked the port not long after they departed.
Gladio left (Y/n)'s body in the car while the four of them dug a deep enough grave for her. After digging, Prompto found beautiful blue and red flowers for her grave. "Shall I get her?" Ignis asked the pained Gladio. He shook his head and headed to the car. When he checked the car for (Y/n), her body was gone.
