104) Prompto (Part I)
~(Y/n)'s POV~
Walking through the streets of Altissia never ceased to amaze me. Even though I lived in the beautiful city upon the water, the sights never got dull. I carried a sketchbook and a set of colored pencils with me. My friend, Laia, challenged me over the phone yesterday. I was to meet her in the middle of Altissia in front of our favorite café.
Once I arrived, Laia waved at me with a giant smile plastered to her face. "So, ready to lose, (Y/n)?" Her smile turned into a huge smirk. I smirked back at her confidently. "I should be asking you that." She giggled and dragged me to a staircase not far from the café. "Okay, the challenge will be easy. Whoever draws a better portrait wins. The reward will be a nice dinner at the most expensive restaurant in Altissia. How's that sound?"
"Oh, you're on." We shook hands and set up our supplies. Countless of people passed by. Every time we asked someone if they wanted us to draw their portrait, they would say no. Hours passed and the sun had finally set. Both Laia and I sighed in unison. "Maybe we should try tomorrow?" Laia asked.
"Let's wait another hour. We don't want to miss our one chance, especially just because we called it quits." The streetlights were enough to illuminate us and our surroundings. Before our last hour was up, a group of men showed up. Laia flew to her feet with a smile. "Would you like a portrait of your visit to Altissia?"
"Can we?" The blonde one pleads. "I don't see why not," a man with glasses responds. Laia smiled and glanced back at me. "You'll actually be judging a competition. My friend and I will both draw your portraits. Once completed, you'll choose which is better." The group nodded and got into position.
Half an hour passes and Laia finished a few minutes before me. I colored in the blue eyes of the blonde and finished. "Alright, I'll go first," Laia declares. She hands the portrait and they gasp. When I heard them praise her work, I felt nervous. Maybe I shouldn't give them the one I drew? The group then began to laugh at the blonde one in Laia's drawing. I caught their names as they continued to laugh.
Prompto turned to me and smiled. "Could I see yours?" He asked kindly. I shrunk a little and hid the drawing behind my back. "I-I, um... you should keep Laia's. Hers is much better than mine."
"Please?" He begged. I sighed and handed him the sketch. His eyes widened once they laid upon the portrait. "Prom, is something wrong?" The one named Noctis asked. "L-look at this!" He shouts happily. The other three gather around him to see my sketch.
"Beautiful," Ignis compliments. "Wow," Noctis gasped in amazement. "That's one hell of a sketch. She's clearly the winner," Gladio said. Laia came over and looked at my work. "What?! (Y/n), when did you get so good?!" Laia stares at me with shock-filled eyes. "I've been practicing for awhile. I was hoping to begin drawing for a living."
Prompto beamed at me with joy in his eyes. He dug around in his pockets and pulled out some Gil. He tried to give it to me, but I refused. "No need. I really enjoyed drawing you all. There's no need to pay."
"Are you sure?" Ignis questioned. I nodded with a smile. "Of course! Seeing your happy faces is payment enough." Laia sighed in defeat. "I guess I owe you dinner."
"About that, I don't want to go to an expensive restaurant. Let's just have a nice breakfast at the café tomorrow morning as the reward." Laia smiled at my words. She gave me a hug and messed up some of my (h/c) hair. Before the group of men walked away, Prompto fidgeted a little. "Um,
(Y/n)?" I hummed in response to the blonde.
"Could I be your first customer?"
"Prompto, are you sure?" He nodded quickly. "Yeah! Could you draw a Chocobo?" I was a little surprised at his request but accepted it in a heartbeat. "I'd love to. I'll have it ready by tomorrow afternoon. Meet me back here." He cheered happily and left with his friends. Laia suddenly elbowed me playfully. "You should totally take him on a date! I saw how he looked at you. I could practically see his tail wagging when you accepted his request."
"Oh, be quiet, Laia. He's a nice person."
"Alright, I'll back down... for now. So, tomorrow morning we'll have breakfast. See ya then!" Laia skipped off into the night. I gathered my things and headed back home.
-Next Morning-
After a tasty breakfast with Laia, I was able to finish up the Chocobo for Prompto. The feathers matched the color of his hairs and it made me smile. Laia noticed and wiggles her eyebrows at me. "You're totally thinking about him!" Her shout made me jump, causing me to drop my yellow coloring pencil.
"Geez, Laia! Could you shout any louder?" I whisper harshly at her. She grins and takes a sip of her coffee. "Yes, yes I could." I roll my eyes at her response. I glanced at a clock that hung on the wall next our table. "I still have a few hours until I need to meet with Prompto. I'm going to walk around. See ya later, Laia."
I left the café and headed into town. My eyes caught a glimpse of a perfect view. I ran over and began sketching the view of the beautiful water and the buildings in the background. A shout brought me back to reality. "Hey, (Y/n)!" I knew that cheery voice from anywhere. I turned around and smiled.
"Good morning, Prompto." He smiled and responded sweetly as he stood next to me. We gazed at the scene before us. "Oh! Since you're here, I'll give you the drawing now." I opened my sketchbook and flipped to the Chocobo drawing. I tore it out gently so I wouldn't end up ripping it.
Prompto gasped as he took the drawing from me. "This is amazing! Thanks, (Y/n)!" He suddenly hugged me after his short outburst of excitement. I didn't say a word as Prompto realized what he had done. "S-sorry about that."
"N-no, it's not a problem. I'm glad you like it." Prompto smiled and took out two thousand Gil.
"P-Prompto, that's too much!" He placed the Gil in my hand. I tried to give it back, but Prompto closed my hand around the Gil. "Don't worry about it. I really think you deserve it."
"Found him!" We turn around and saw the others approaching us. "Should've known you would be with (Y/n)," Noctis said with a huge smirk. Even Gladio was smirking as if he just learned a dirty secret. "I hope he isn't bothering you, (Y/n)," Ignis spoke up suddenly. I shook my head. "Not at all."
Prompto rubbed the back of his neck. "Can I talk to a cute girl without you guys butting in?" They laughed at him as I began to blush at what Prompto just said. I covered my face with my hands and turned away from Prompto.
"What's wrong, (Y/n)?" Prompto's voice was brimming with concern. I gathered my things and tried to rid myself of the embarrassment that was painted all over my face. "I-I'm fine. I-I just remembered I have something t-to do!" I slipped the Gil into my pocket, thanking Prompto once again. I started to walk away and he began to follow closely behind.
"H-hey, (Y/n)! Wait!" I stopped in my tracks but refused to face him. My cheeks were still tinted red from his words. I took a deep breath and sighed. "Prompto, p-please don't say such things so carelessly." I peeked over my shoulder at him. "What are you- Oh!" Now his cheeks were turning red.
"Oh, Gods, I'm sorry! It just slipped out!" His cheeks kept turning different shades of red. I held my sketchbook close to my chest as I spun on my heels to face him. "Did... did you mean it?" I still couldn't meet his blue eyes yet. If I did, my embarrassment would just grow. He ran a hand through his hair.
"Y-yes," he meekly responds. I began to smile happily.
"You're too sweet, Prompto."
"Could I... um... take you out?"
"If you're asking me out on a date, then... yes, I'd love to."
"R-really?! Yes!" He pumps his fists into the air in victory. "Nothing too expensive, okay? You've already given me two thousand Gil just for a Chocobo drawing." He nodded with a bright smile. I giggle and gave him a peck on the cheek. His face looked as if he was about to explode. Prompto placed a hand over the cheek I just kissed.
"Does tomorrow sound okay?" He nodded furiously and a strange noise left his lips. It sounded like he was trying to keep himself from screaming out with joy.
"I'll see you tomorrow, Prompto. Meet me in front of the café around noon. Then, we'll go from there."
"Y-yeah! Tomorrow at noon. I can't wait!"
