~3rd Person POV~

It had been a long few weeks. Ignis sighed as he used the spare key (Y/n) gave him to her apartment. The young woman wasn't home and wouldn't be for another hour. She had departed on a hunt with the marshal three weeks ago and is set to return tonight. Ignis wishes to surprise her with a home-cooked meal to welcome her back.

As he sauntered into the kitchen, he began preparing her favorite dish and waited for the water to come to a boil. He wandered around her small apartment, admiring all the photos she had framed of herself, Noctis, Prompto, Gladio, and himself.

Waltzing down the hallway, a small glint of silver caught his eyes. Ignis knew he shouldn't enter a lady's bedroom, especially when she's not even home. He pushed the thought aside and opened the ajar door slowly. Inside her room, he walked to where he spotted the small glint of metal. Kneeling down, the tactician skimmed his hand under the bed and pulled out what seemed to be a small turquoise journal.

The glint he saw was from the metallic heart that was unlatched. Something drew Ignis to open the journal and he did what his consciousness told him to do. Flipping through the first few pages, he noticed a handful of drawings consisted of him and the others. A few were doodles, but most of them were worthy of being in an art museum.

Ignis flipped the page and spotted a small piece of red protruding from the top of the journal. He turned to the marked page and saw a small poem. Reading the writing over and over again due to the well-developed rhythm, he finally was able to put the pieces together. "Impossible," he mutters to himself as he flips to the next page.

Another poem greeted him, much more beautiful than the previous one. After reading the second poem, he knew they were about him. He was completely moved and felt his heart skip a beat knowing such beautiful writing was describing him and (Y/n)'s love for him. Not wishing to pry any further, he closed the girl's diary and latched the silver heart before placing it back under the bed.

Ignis left (Y/n)'s bedroom and returned to the kitchen, his mind delving into the hundreds of memories he had made with the beautiful girl. As he slaved over the hot flames, Ignis debated whether he should share his feelings with (Y/n) or to keep them locked up for a little longer. Finishing dinner, he decided he would tell her the truth since he was the one who snooped into her diary.

With the hour up, the door opened slowly and revealed an exhausted (Y/n). She didn't see Ignis until she sat her keys on the table beside the door and turned towards the living room. "Iggy, what're you doing here? It's almost ten."

He stood from the couch and gestured to the kitchen table. "I was informed of your late return by the marshal and desired to cook a meal as a warm welcome home."

"How sweet of you. I actually haven't eaten since this morning. Cor and I were too focused on coming home and completely skipped lunch."

"All the better," he smiled gently.

The two ate dinner in peace, exchanging plenty of words to share what the other had missed. It was almost midnight. The duo had finished dinner an hour ago and remained at the table, chatting up a storm and filling up the other hour.

Ignis suddenly grew silent, which worried (Y/n). "Iggy, you've gone quiet. What's on your mind?"

"A confession," he simply replies.

"Whatever it is, I'm all ears," she beamed.

Ignis thanked her before admitting the small crime he had committed only hours ago. "(Y/n), I sincerely apologize for rummaging through your diary."

Her eyes widened, "Did I forget to lock it again?" He nods and she swallowed hard. "How far did you read? The first pages are drawings, but did you read the last few?"

"Yes."

(Y/n) glanced away sadly. "Let me guess... you don't like me that way?"

"No, my dear. I'm deeply infatuated with you. I felt rather honored when I read such beautiful poetry and discovered they were of me."

"I am so embarrassed..." (Y/n) mumbled, hiding her red face in her hands.

Ignis got up from his seat and walked over to her. He kneeled beside her chair and pried her hands away from her face. "I quite adore your work."

"So, does this mean..."

Ignis stood up straight and leaned down to her height, placing his forehead against hers. "Yes, darling. It does."

(Y/n) smiled with tears in her eyes and kissed Ignis. The strategist reciprocated with an intensity she had no idea the man could muster. It took her by surprise, but it was a welcomed one.

With the kiss sealing their love, (Y/n) pulled away and sighed. "Now I'm even more exhausted."

"Shall I depart for the evening?"

"Nonsense, Iggy. You can spend the night here. It's already a little past midnight. There's no way I'm letting you walk all the way home at this late hour."

"Then, let us rest, my love."

(Y/n) nods with a smile. "Yeah, let's go."
