~(Y/n)'s POV~
Sitting in the training room, I watched as Gladio roughed up the new Crownsguard member with his intense training sessions. Derrin, the rookie, wasn't doing so well and kept glancing my way. I've talked to the man numerous of times but noticed he was a little strange around me. He'd always crack flirtatious jokes and try to convince me to dump Gladio for him. I kept pushing away his advances, but that's when I started to see him more often. I refused to tell Gladio, afraid he would confront and hurt Derrin.
"Don't be starin' at (Y/n)! Keep your eyes on your opponent!" Gladio barks at the younger man. Derrin grits his teeth and charges at the shield, blinded by rage. In the blink of an eye, the rookie was sent flying by Gladio's shield. Derrin skidded to a halt, falling on the ground as he struggled to stand. Even though I had nothing to do with his defeat, the young boy kept his gaze on me.
Suddenly, Gladio appeared before me and obscured Derrin's view. "That's enough for today. Get your ass outta here." As he left, the boy sent me a smirk that sent a chill down my spine. I was about to speak, but Gladio scooped me up into his arms before I could get a syllable out. "What's wrong, shortcake?" He asked, his amber irises boring into my (e/c) ones.
"It's just... I have this strange feeling about Derrin. He... he keeps sending me these creepy grins and visiting me at work."
"How long has this been goin' on?"
"Ever since we first talked. It's... it's starting to scare me, Gladio."
He nuzzled his nose against mine and kissed me on the cheek. "The bastard better not touch you. If he does, tell me right away, (Y/n)."
"Trust me, you'll be the first person I go to." I wrap my arms around his neck as he tried to set me on my feet. Since he was much taller than me, my feet didn't touch the ground as I kept my arms around his neck. "I really should go, but I don't wanna..."
Gladio chuckled, leaned down, and kissed me tenderly. "Someone's being extra stubborn today."
"I have this weird feeling something bad it gonna happen and I don't wanna leave. What happens if this bad feeling isn't just a... feeling?"
"How 'bout this: give me ten minutes to get ready and I'll walk you home."
"Deal!" I stole a kiss from his lips and unlatched my arms from around his neck. He patted me on the head before leaving the training room.
Outside, I waited for Gladio. When I felt a hand on my shoulder, I immediately knew it didn't belong to the shield. Turning, I saw Derrin smirking at me maliciously. "You alone, (Y/n)?"
"Um, no. Gladio will be here any minute. I suggest you should-"
"Oh, come now! Don't be so mean!" Derrin's grip on my shoulder tightened, frightening me a little. I smacked his hand off my shoulder and backed away from the creep. Derrin closed the distance as he grabbed my wrists and held them in one of his hands, restraining them as he pushed me against a wall. He leaned in closely, his lips inches from mine.
"What the hell are you doing?!" I shout at him. Derrin only snickers in response and closes the distance between our faces.
Before his lips met mine, he was ripped away from me and thrown down the steps of the Citadel. "You've got a lot of nerve, asshole. You touch her, you deal with me. And I ain't gonna go easy on your ass," Gladio growls as he stood protectively in front of me. Looking past the shield, I watch as Derrin just smirks and leaves without a word.
I sigh in relief and rest my head on Gladio's back. "You've no idea how happy I am to see you."
I raised my head just as he turned and faced me with a worried expression. "You alright?" He asked, scanning over my body.
"I'm fine, Gladio."
"Good, because the next time he lays a hand on you, it'll be the last time he ever touches anything."
"Just don't kill him. I don't wanna visit you in jail."
"Duly noted."
When Gladio turned his back to me for a few seconds, I took the advantage and jumped onto his back. Wrapping my arms around his neck, I hoist myself upwards to a point where I wasn't choking him. In response, Gladio supported me by gently taking a hold on my thighs. I rested my chin on his shoulder as he carried me to my apartment.
Opening the door with the key I gave him, Gladio enters my apartment and I jump from his back and land on the couch.
(A/n: I've decided to add more visuals to my stories. You'll be seeing a lot more pictures from now on.)
I grabbed one of the plush pillows on the couch and hugged it while curling into a ball. "Would it... Would it be possible for you to stay the night?" My cheerful demeanor was void as it was replaced with fear. Gladio registers my tone and turns his amber gaze to me. "Still got that strange feelin'?"
I nod, covering half of my face with the pillow. Gladio sits next to me and takes my small hand in his much larger one. "I promised Iris I would help her bake tonight. But afterwards, I'll come back here. Will you be fine on your own until then?"
"If something does happen, I'll call you right away."
He leans down to my balled up form and kisses me on the cheek. "I'll be back as soon as possible."
"Don't burn down the kitchen while tryin' to help Iris bake," I snicker.
"No promises," Gladio grins and gets up to leave. Before he's out the door, he faces me one last time. "Make sure to lock the doors and windows."
I released the pillow and got to my feet. "You havin' the same feeling I am?"
"Yeah, so don't forget to lock everything."
"Trust me, you don't have to tell me twice."
Gladio nods and sends a smile my way before leaving. "See ya tonight, babydoll."
Once he was gone, I locked all the windows and doors then headed to the kitchen to prepare a small dinner.
While I was making (favorite dish), my phone vibrated on the counter beside the stove. Grabbing the device, I see Gladio's name across the screen. "Already? I just saw him ten minutes ago." I accepted his call and placed the device up to my ear. "Yes, sweetheart?"
"Just callin' to make sure you locked everything."
"Gladio, I did that the moment you left."
"Sorry, sorry. I've become...paranoid ever since I left."
I sigh, "You and me both."
"Anyways, I'll wrap things up with Iris as quick as possible and head straight over."
"Alright."
Hanging up, I finished dinner and sat down. I scrolled through my pictures as I ate, looking at countless of images of the four boys, Iris, and myself. My train of thought was derailed when I heard the sound of glass shattering. Startled, I jumped in my chair and turned my head to where the sound came from. Grasping my phone tightly, I stood from my chair and headed into the living room. Glass scattered across the floor as the one window beside the couch was broken.
While searching for what caused the window to break, the sound of scuffling from my bedroom caught my attention. Quickly, I pulled out my phone and dialed Gladio's number. The moment he picked up, the device flew from my hand as I was pinned to the ground. I struggled against the person as they restrained my arms beside my head. As I tried to act calm, I recognized the person above me. "Derrin..."
He grins and leans down, our faces only mere inches apart. "Bingo, sweetheart." His buried his nose in my hair, gently sniffing my (h/c) locks. "You smell divine as ever." I glared sharply at the man as he moved his face away from mine. As his grin widened and his grip loosened slightly, I took my chance and kicked him where the sun don't shine. Gasping in pain, Derrin falls off of me. I jump to my feet and search for my phone. When I found it, I snatched the device off the floor and ran to my room, locking the door behind me. In a hasty attempt, I pushed the dresser against the door to prevent Derrin from breaking in.
Checking my phone, Gladio's name lit up the screen, signaling the call never ended and he heard everything. With uneven breaths, I called out to him and felt fear take over my being. "G-Gladio, please hurry!" I sank to my knees, my phone still up to my ear. All I could hear was running footsteps on the other end.
After a moment of silence, Derrin began banging on my door. "Open up, (Y/n)! If you do, we can leave together peacefully."
I shook my head, dropped my phone, and backed myself into a corner. Hugging my knees, I try to ignore the banging and Derrin's voice. "I'm the only one for you, not him!"
I covered my ears to filter him out as tears sprung from my eyes. "Leave me alone!"
Suddenly, I heard the sound of my front door breaking off its hinges. The familiar heavy footsteps closed in and I heard Derrin struggling on the other side of the door. "Let go of me, you bastard!"
"Like hell I'm letting you escape!" Gladio's deep voice bellows. The two started fighting as I moved the dresser back in place and cracked open the door. Peeking through the small slit, I watch as Gladio pins Derrin easily. When I heard a snap, I closed my eyes as the younger man screamed in pain. "I'm reporting your ass to the marshal. As much as I want to do more that break your arm right now, (Y/n) is my first priority."
Silently, I left my room. Derrin was grunting as he held his broken right arm. I hadn't realized Noctis, Prompto, and Ignis were accompanying the shield until they escorted Derrin out. The sound of police sirens filled the air as I drew closer to the front door. Feeling a gentle hand on my shoulder, I turn to face Gladio with a huge smile. In mere seconds, I already had my arms around him as far as they could go. Without hesitation, Gladio had returned the embrace.
"Guess my paranoia wasn't just my imagination," I comment. "Were you quiet on the other end of the call when you heard Derrin?"
"I didn't want him to know you had reached me."
I sigh, burying my head in his chest. "Thank the Six you made it so quickly."
Without a single word, Gladio scooped me in his arms and carried me to the couch. He gently laid me down on the plush cushions before sitting next to me, his eyes brimming with concern. "What did he do to you?"
"Nothing major. All he did was pin me down and sniff my hair for some creepy reason."
Suddenly, Gladio grabbed my face in his hands and pulled my entire body towards his. Leaning down to reach my height, he buried his nose in my hair and did exactly what Derrin did. Then, he blew on my ear, sending a chill down my spine. I squirmed at the sudden sensation, earning a chuckle from Gladio.
"H-Hey, the others are just outside. What if they-ah!" I cry out as he bit down gently on my earlobe. I placed my hands on his chest, trying to pry him off of me. "G-Gladio!"
He released my ear and bursted into laughter. "You're too easy to tease, (Y/n)."
"No, you're just a jerk!" I retort playfully. "Taking advantage of a girl when she's-"
Gladio silenced me with a deep and passionate kiss. He pushed me down on the couch, looming over my form as he kept his lips on mine. As he pressed my body deeper into the couch, the others returned and interrupted Gladio's advances. Growling slightly, he crawled off my body and glared slightly at the other boys. I push myself off the couch and wait for news from them.
"He'll no longer be a problem, (Y/n). The police will handle him while the marshal will strip him of his Crownsguard title," Noctis said.
"Thank you, Noct."
"You okay?" Prompto asked.
"I'm fine. Can't say the same thing for my door," I said, gesturing to the split wood.
"Sorry 'bout that. Didn't feel like using the key," Gladio admits. "But now, you've got an excuse to stay with me for awhile."
"You'll be paying for my door, Mister Amicitia," I add.
"Hell, I'll even pay for the window," he announces.
"Good, because I don't have the cash to fix it as of now." Then, I glanced at Noctis, Prompto, and Ignis. "When did you three meet up with Gladio?"
"A mere coincidental encounter," Ignis admits.
"Hold on... you four were together after Gladio left here? What happened to baking with Iris?"
"Got sidetracked. I'll make it up to her later," Gladio said.
"Before we could split, that's when Gladio got the call from you. We all rushed over here," Noctis explains.
"What a coincidence. Guess Iggy called the police while you were rushing over here," I said.
"Details, details. Now, go get your stuff. You're stayin' with me," Gladio said, nudging me towards my bedroom.
"Let me go pack."
