~3rd Person POV~

With a sharp gasp, Prompto flew up and looked at his surroundings. He noticed the grand mountains that painted a beautiful scene in the background. The area he was currently located was devoid of much flowers and only small spurts of grass were scattered about.

Looking to his left, he saw what seemed to be a piece of metal. Inspecting the strange object, he realized it was a machine part. "Where am I?" He asked himself. All he could remember was a bright light and he and his friends lost consciousness. Now that he was all alone in a place that wasn't familiar, he began to freak out and run all over the place.

When the blonde heard the noises of what seemed to be a machine, he completely froze. The first thing that came to mind was a Magitek, but he pushed that thought away once he realized one wouldn't be this loud. Curiosity took over and he followed the sound. When he finally spotted the machine, he gasped. The sharpshooter has never seen such tech back home.

When he took a step closer to the machine, it snapped its head towards him and the blue light that emitted from the lens turned red. "Oh, crap!" He began to run the way he came, hoping the strange machine would give up. Prompto glanced behind him to see the metallic creature hot on his tail. Another scream escaped his lips as he tried to find a hiding space.

Suddenly, he heard the machine make a strange noise. He turned and saw an arrow protruding from its lens. He sighs in relief and looks for where the arrow came from. A figure standing on a large boulder caught his eye and he spotted the bow they were carrying. Hoping and praying this person wouldn't kill him, he waved desperately towards the silhouette. The person jumps down from the rock and approaches Prompto slowly. As the figure got closer, he realized it was a girl who seemed to be around his age. She wore a strange outfit that confused him. She slung the bow across her back, signaling she wasn't a threat.

He was glad she didn't raise her weapon at him. She was his only hope and he desperately wanted answers. She sent him a confused look as she saw his clothes. "Why are you out here? It's dangerous this far from Meridian."

"Uh... u-um, I'm looking f-for my friends," he stutters. Prompto began to pale when the girl fell silent. His worry grew more and he couldn't take it. After a long silence, she finally spoke up. "Where did you see your friends last? I can help you find them."

"R-Really? You would help me?" He asked, some of his worry vanishing.

"Of course. My name's (Y/n). What's yours?"

"P-Prompto."

"Alright, Prompto. We'll find your friends."

Then, something made a beeping noise. (Y/n) presses a finger to a strange device that was in her ear and began chatting to someone. "Aloy, I'm gonna need your help. Meet me in Meridian." She dropped her hand and smiled at Prompto. "We'll return to the city. Once there, my sister and I will help you search for your friends. Until we reach Meridian, stay by my side as it appears you don't have a weapon." Prompto tried to summon his pistol but failed. He sighed and nodded his head, sticking to (Y/n)'s side.

"So, what was that thing earlier?" He asked, trying to strike up a conversation with the mysterious girl.

"A Watcher. Never seen one before?" She glanced at him.

He shook his head. Prompto knew nothing about this place and he could tell (Y/n) had already picked up on that. She stopped in her tracks and grabbed his arm. "Tell me the truth, Prompto. What situation are you in?"

"You... you wouldn't believe me."

(Y/n) crosses her arms. "Try me."

Prompto stares into her beautiful (e/c) eyes before spilling everything. "My friends and I aren't from this world. I don't know what that thing was earlier because we don't have them back home."

(Y/n) stared hard into his sapphire irises. She uncrossed her arms and smiled. "I believe you. From your eyes, I can tell that you're telling the truth. Just don't go telling everyone you're from another world. They'll think you're crazy and toiling with Eclipse."

"Eclipse?" Prompto tilted his head in confusion.

"Cultists who are manipulating ancient machines to destroy the world."

Prompto has more questions and (Y/n) gladly explained her world to him. What intrigued him the most was the various machines that wandered the lands. He was curious to see more of them, but he knew they were dangerous.

Suddenly, (Y/n) grabbed him and dived into a patch of tall grass. She placed a finger over her lips, signaling him to be silent. He listened closely and heard the sounds of a low humming that resembled growling. Prompto's eyes widen in fear as he spots the larger machine a few feet away.

Prompto desperately wanted to ask what machine it was, but he knew he had to be quiet. When he looked back at (Y/n), he read her lips.

'Stay here.'

He tried to grab her, but she was already out of his reach. Prompto watched her like a hawk as she snuck behind the metal beast. She notched an arrow and released it, the metal tip breaking off a small component on the machine's back. The machine then jumps around, facing (Y/n)'s direction but not able to see her hidden figure. She waited completely still until the artificial animal got bored. Then, she notched three arrows and fired them at another component, successfully breaking it.

Prompto was amazed at how skilled she was with her bow. Not only could she aim, but she could fire three arrows at once. He was in awe and wasn't paying attention to the giant mechanical beast that spotted him. It leaped at him, its sharp metal claws swiping in his direction. He let out a shriek as he was able to dodge at the last second.

(Y/n) jumped out of her hiding spot and swung a sharp and heavy spear at the machine. The attack knocked it down and she stabbed it in the wire-covered neck. The metallic beast's eyes ceased glowing as sparks flew from where (Y/n)'s spear pierced its wiring.

"You alright?" She asked, helping the boy to his feet.

"Y-Yeah, thanks to you." Prompto didn't want to let go of her hand, but he had to so she could scavenge parts from the lifeless machine. "What was that one called?"

"Sawtooth. They're one of many combatant machines. Sadly, their numbers are growing and more people are being slaughtered doing simple day-to-day things." A frown etched across Prompto's face. (Y/n) noticed and cheered him up, his frown turning into a smile.

Finally reaching Meridian, Prompto stuck closer to (Y/n) as he was getting strange looks from people on the streets. The myriads of eyes on him made nervousness blossom within his chest. He followed the girl until they arrived at a small outlook.

"Aloy," (Y/n) called out. A girl with bright red hair turned around and smiled at her.

"Hey, (Y/n). Good news for our new friend here," Aloy said, eyeing Prompto.

"What did you find out?"

"A trio of men were spotted not far from the Estate. People said they were wearing strange clothes that seemed foreign."

"That's gotta be them!" Prompto shouts happily.

"Guess we're headin' to the Estate," (Y/n) said. Prompto was so happy to hear his friends were close by.

"I need to talk to Erend about Ezra's death. Hopefully, we'll find clues that lead us to the real culprits," Aloy said before leaving her sister with the chirpy blonde.

"You ready to head out, Prompto?" (Y/n) asked, turning to face the boy. He nods frantically and follows her out of Meridian. The sharpshooter has to admit the city was beautiful and wished he could explore it longer.

Once out of the city, (Y/n) whistles and a machine answers her call. Prompto hid behind the girl as the metal creature saddled up to them.

"It's not gonna hurt us. I've overridden its controls and now it's docile unless provoked. It's a much quicker way to travel."

"Wait, we're gonna ride that thing?" Prompto asked. (Y/n) nods and hops on. The young boy hesitantly mounts the machine just behind the girl and slowly wraps his arms around her waist. Even though she had a lean body, she still was slightly smaller than him and he could see over her head from where he was sitting.

"You might wanna hold on tighter. This ride isn't goin' to be smooth," (Y/n) laughs. Prompto did as she said and tightened his arms around her small waist. He felt his cheeks burning in embarrassment as the machine began picking up speed. He was so enthralled by the girl that he didn't realize they had arrived at the Estate.

"Here we are. Let's go look for your friends," (Y/n) said. Prompto pried his arms from around her waist and dismounted the machine. Ever since the attack on the Estate, no one has lived here. The two decided to search the stables first. With no luck, they headed into the main building. They both were silent as voices could be heard from a room in the back.

"How the hell are we supposed to find him if we don't even know where we are? We're not from this world!" A deep voice growls.

"Indeed, but there must be one person who has seen Prompto," an accented voice said in a much calmer tone.

"Yeah, there's gotta be someone here who can help us that won't try to use us as target practice," the last voice said.

(Y/n) looked over to Prompto to see a huge smile on his face. The blonde stormed into the room and announced his presence. The young girl stood in the doorframe and watched as he was reunited with his friends.

"Prom, how the hell did you find us?" Noctis asked his best friend.

"I had some help," Prompto replies, glancing at (Y/n) with an enormous smile. The three looked towards the door to see the (h/c) haired girl watching the scene. Prompto stormed over to the girl and dragged her into the room. "This is (Y/n). I'd be dead without her."

"Thanks for watchin' out for him," Noctis beamed at her.

"No thanks needed," (Y/n) humbly responds.

"May I inquire where we are?" Ignis asked as he gazed at her.

"You're currently in the Estate. Meridian is just north of here. The city is the safest place to be. Though you are outsiders, I may be able to convince the Sun King to allow you a haven to stay until you're able to find a way home."

"What about those giant machines?" Gladio asked.

"Just stay low and I'll handle 'em."

"She took down two earlier," Prompto boasts.

Suddenly, (Y/n) fell silent and her head snapped towards the front door. The four noticed her change in demeanor and fell quiet, too. "Remain here. You'll be safe. Once I've disposed of the Glinthawks, I'll come and get you."

"W-Wait, (Y/n)!" Prompto yells in protest. Before he could take chase, Gladio grabbed him and prevented the sharpshooter from leaving.

"She's got this covered. Why're you so worried about her?" Gladio asked. Prompto delved into silence, not wishing to answer the brute's question.

Noctis peered into his best friend's eyes to see if he could get an answer. "You like her, don't you?"

"I do! Wouldn't you fall for someone if they found you by yourself in a strange place, saved your ass twice and was completely sweet the whole time? She even didn't think I was crazy when I told her I was from another world. She could've just left me out there or killed me on the spot, but she didn't! She's the reason why we're all reunited." Prompto's expression was unwavering and strong. The others could tell how much (Y/n) meant to him even though he's only known her for a day.

"She believes you?" Noctis asked in disbelief.

"Every word! Didn't you just hear her? She's gonna help us," Prompto states.

"Trust is something you mustn't give away so easily, but... I believe we can put ours in (Y/n)," Ignis said.

"I agree. She doesn't strike me as a girl to stab someone in the back," Gladio exclaimed. Prompto smiles and happily cheers at his friends' responses. The sound of the machines wailing outside made them move to the front door. The four watched as (Y/n) released an arrow just as a metallic bird lashed out at her. The arrow hit the artificial animal in the chest, causing its circuits to fry and explode. The machine crashed to the ground with a heavy thud in front of the house.

"Alright, they've been taken care of," (Y/n) sighs. The three were in awe while Prompto smirked at his friends.

"Fascinating display," Ignis compliments.

"Just a daily routine," she laughs.

Noctis glanced between the dead machine and the archer behind the kill. "You fight these things every day?"

"Not a normal day for me until I've killed at least one," (Y/n) exclaims. The four were stunned at the revelation. She saw their expressions and smirked. "Is it really that shocking?" They all nod in unison.

"Definitely not from this world," (Y/n) laughs. "Anyways, let's head to Meridian. From there, I'll discuss matters with the Sun King."

The group decided to walk back to the city. Once inside the safe walls of Meridian, the men relaxed and waited for (Y/n)'s return. An hour passes before she finally does. "Good news: the Sun King gladly welcomes you to Meridian. He also gifted you with a house until you safely return home."

"This is too good to be true," Noctis comments.

"Follow me and see for yourself." (Y/n) guides them to the edge of the city and to a decently sized building. She opened the door and welcomed them inside. "This is where you'll be staying. Oh, and here." She pulls out a pouch and hands it to Prompto. "Three thousand metal shards. It's what we use as currency. That should be enough for a whole year. Hopefully, you won't be here for that long."

"Much appreciated, (Y/n)," Ignis thanks the young girl.

As she left, Prompto took chase. He ran after her and called out her name before she entered the busy streets. "U-Um, (Y/n)?" She hums in response, beckoning him to continue. "Will we see you again?"

She smiled and nodded. "Of course. I'll be around for a few days before I have to head back home."

Prompto was heartbroken at the fact that she wasn't going to be around much longer. "Oh, okay. Then, will you come by tomorrow?" She nodded and wished him a good night.

-Three Months Later-

The group still had yet to find a way home, but that didn't bug Prompto. He had grown much closer to (Y/n) and even accompanied her to the Nora's homeland. He learned more about the machines and what the people of this world called "the ancient ones".

One day, Prompto met up with (Y/n) and they decided to head out of Meridian for a few hours to scrounge for machine parts. She had only taken down two Sawtooths and had already enough materials to craft more arrows. Prompto gladly helped her make a few arrows as she had taught him how to.

"Thanks for the help today, Prompto. Glad you're not scared of the machines to a point where you stay cooped up within the city."

"No problem, (Y/n). I also wanted to ask you something."

She gazed at the blonde, signaling he had all of her attention. He swallowed hard, his nerves going out of control. (Y/n) tilted her head a little, placing a hand on his shoulder. Before she could get a single syllable out, Prompto sealed her lips with his. He had put too much force into the kiss, which caused (Y/n) to fall over. Their lips remained connected as they fell. Prompto was on top of her but was careful not to crush her under his weight. (Y/n) kissed back, making Prompto the happiest person in the world.

Breaking the passionate moment, the two gasped for air and stared into each other's eyes. It took a few minutes for them to realize it was a dangerous place to make-out. Machines could be prowling the area and spot them at any moment.

"I-I know we've only known each other for a few months, but you've been the kindest person since I got here. You believed me whereas others would've called me crazy. You helped me find my friends and saved my life more than I can count. I love you, (Y/n)."

Said girl smiles with tears in her eyes. "I love you too, Prompto."

They shared another kiss before heading back to Meridian.
