(Soul Eater) The Dragon Witch 2
"You must be Kayda," Kid said, "the dragon witch."
Kayda stood from her stone throne. "That's me. Thank you all for coming."
Patty suddenly rushed forward, circling the witch. "Aww, no tail or wings!" she pouted. She grabbed hold of one of the black horns on the side of the witch's head. "But she does have these cool horns!"
Kayda swatted her away. "Don't touch my horns."
Liz was quick to hurry over and snatch her sister, tugging her away. "So sorry for my sister! Please don't turn her into a dragon or anything as punishment!"
Kayda laughed at that. "Don't worry, you're safe. The barrier outside seals my magic and keeps me from leaving."
"So, that's how it works," Soul muttered.
The group quickly introduced themselves before Kayda led them all outside. The girl snarled at seeing the bubble she was trapped in. "There are three witches that created this barrier. Those three must be killed in order for this wall to disperse. That's why I need your help. Get rid of them for me, and I'll be free to join Lord Death's fight against the evil in this world."
Kid nodded. "Very well. You can count on us to do our part."
Blackstar grinned. "That's right! No way a few witches are gonna escape my wrath!"
Kayda smiled. "That's just what I wanted to hear. The three you're after are the bat witch, the fox witch, and the lizard witch. I don't know exactly where they are now, I'm afraid."
The three meisters and their weapons split up and set out. It would probably take some time for them to track down their targets. It was mostly a waiting game for Kayda. After a couple of days though, she noticed something. The barrier's energy decreased in power. Kayda grinned, knowing one of the witches had been killed. After a couple more days, Kid, Liz, and Patty returned.
"The bat witch is dead," he told her.
"Excellent!" Kayda responded. "I can already tell the bubble's potency has decreased. Of course, I wouldn't expect any less from a reaper."
Kid blinked in slight surprise. "So, you figured it out?"
She chuckled. "Well, Lord Death did say he was sending his son. And I can sense the tremendous power resonating from your soul." A low growl suddenly rumbled from her stomach. "I'm getting hungry. Fafnir, food run!"
The beast spread his wings and took off, passing through the barrier. Kayda sat down on the stone steps of the crypt. She slipped a lavender-colored orb from her pocket. Kid, Liz, and Patty joined her on the stairs, their eyes on the orb.
"What's that?" Liz asked.
"My Dragon's Eye," she answered. "It allows me to connect to Fafnir, no matter where he is."
"That's how you stay fed," Kid said, piecing things together. "I was wondering what you ate around here."
"She could've always resorted to eating corpses!" Patty cheerfully pointed out. "This graveyard's full of them! You'd just have to dig them up!"
Kayda looked at her with disgust. "I'm not a vulture. I don't eat dead things."
"What about souls?" Kid questioned.
She turned to him, slightly offended. "No. I prefer to eat normal food, thank you very much." She then focused on the orb in her palm. "Connect me to my pet."
Inside the orb, images could now be seen. It looked like a forest being passed over, with almost nothing but trees and an occasional river to be seen from the sky above. Soon enough, they could see some kind of town. Fafnir hovered over it, scanning the streets below. People screamed and scattered. Kayda caught sight of a fruit stand in the dragon's vision.
"There, Fafnir, bring me that fruit," she ordered.
Fafnir swooped down, scooping up the stand in his claws. Kayda smiled and cut off the connection before tucking the orb away. "There. All that fruit should last me a while."
"You know, I never would've expected to meet a witch like you," Kid suddenly said. "One that's not concerned with hunting down my dad or creating kishins to fight meisters."
"Yeah," Liz agreed. "You're alright, Kayda. And once you come to Death City, I'll take you shopping for some new clothes."
"Thank you, for giving me a chance." Kayda grinned, showing her small fangs.
Before long, Fafnir returned with his haul. Kayda ate her fill until she felt the barrier's power decrease again. She abruptly froze. "Another of the witches is dead, I can feel it."
Almost right afterwards, the barrier dispelled completely. Kayda gasped with surprise. Already, Maka and Blackstar had taken down the remaining witches. Kayda was now free. She grinned with excitement.
"They really did it! I'm free at last!" She held her hands up toward the sky. "Drake, Drake, Dragon Constellation!" The sky above turned black and was suddenly covered in twinkling lights. "Lead me to Maka!"
The starry lights moved and formed a dragon. It circled around before pointing its body like an arrow. Kid, Liz, and Patty stared in awe.
"Sooo pretty!" Patty exclaimed.
"What is this?" Kid questioned.
"It's a spell that can lead me to just about whatever I ask," the witch answered. "Now that I can use magic again, I can easily track the others."
"Great!" Liz said. "Let's get going!"
Kayda climbed onto Fafnir's back while Liz and Patty took weapon form. Fafnir took off into the air with Kid riding alongside him on his skateboard. They went in the direction the constellation had pointed. After hours of flying, they found Maka and Soul. After picking them up, Kayda repeated the spell to find Blackstar. Soon enough, the gang was together again and heading back toward Death City.
"I can't thank you guys enough," Kayda suddenly said. "When I requested help from Lord Death, I really wasn't sure he'd agree. After all, I am a witch."
"Well, you're not like most witches," Maka replied. "Besides, that's what friends are for."
Kayda's eyes grew wide and she gazed back at where Maka and Blackstar sat with their weapons in hand. "Really? You consider me a friend?"
"Of course!" Blackstar responded. "You're almost as big a star as me!"
"And after all we just went through for you," Kid added with a small smile. "We're definitely friends."
Kayda smiled to herself. She had never really had friends before. It was a first for her, but it certainly wasn't a bad thing. She couldn't wait to meet Lord Death and settle into Death City. For the kindness shown to her, she would do everything she could to repay those who helped her - her friends. And with their aid, she'd be able to take her revenge on the other witches who'd grown to fear her power.
The End
