(FFXV) Seer 4
There was a riot in the center of Lestallum. People shouted with anger. The hunters were doing their best to keep the protesters at bay, but one person raised a gun, aiming it at Sage. A single shot rang out, and something leapt in front of her. In the blink of an eye, Virgil was lying at the Seer's feet, blood pooling under him.
Sage shot up in her bed. "Virgil!" she cried out in fear.
Her bodyguard instantly jumped out of his own bed. He saw Sage sitting up, breathing heavily with tears streaming down her face. He hurried to her side, crawling onto the edge of her bed and placing a hand on her shoulder.
"I'm here! Sage, what's wrong?!"
The woman reached up, clutching onto his arms out of fear. "A terrible vision. You were killed right here in Lestallum. You died protecting me."
His eyes were wide. "Sage..." He lightly wiped her tears away. "Are you certain it wasn't just a dream?"
She swiftly nodded. "I'm positive. I... I can't fulfill my duty here. It'll cost you your life."
"Sage, you must do this. There are people who need your wisdom and guidance."
She suddenly hugged him. "But I can't lose you," she argued into his shirt. "You're the one person who's always there with me. How could I go on without you?"
He returned her hug, wrapping his arms around her securely. "You'll find a way. You can't ignore your calling for me. It's my job to protect you, and if I die in the process, then so be it. I will do whatever it takes to keep you safe."
Early the following morning, Sage snuck out of her room. With a hand against the wall of the hallway, she hurried down to the stairs. She carefully made her way down and began skimming the walls for doors. She suddenly heard the sound of a door opening and paused.
"Lady Sage?" Ignis's voice said, noticing the woman nearby. "Why are you here alone?"
Sage ignored his question and quickly told him, "I need to speak with all of you about an urgent matter."
Her panicked voice confirmed that something was wrong. Ignis quickly led her into their room where he sat her down.
"Please, I need your help," she pleaded, her tone giving away her anxiety. "I had a vision. In the coming days, a group of protesters will arise. Virgil..." Her voice trembled. "Virgil will die protecting me."
Prompto gasped. "No way! Really?! Virgil's like a scary combination of Gladio and Ignis!" Both men sent him a slight glare. "How could anyone take down that guy?!"
"My visions are never wrong," she explained. "Virgil will be killed if I don't do something."
"Why not just leave Lestallum?" Noctis suggested. "Or just stay in your room until things clear up."
"Trust me, I want to. But Virgil won't allow me to neglect my duty. So many people out there are in need of my guidance. And I'm afraid I can't go anywhere without Virgil."
"Whaddya say we stand guard for you?" Gladio said. "We could act as extra protection until everything is settled."
"Oh no, that's alright," Sage interrupted. "I couldn't ask the prince and his retainers to go out of their way for us."
"It's no problem," Noctis replied. "Someone's life is at stake here. As prince, I do what I can to help people. We're in."
Ignis nodded in agreement. "Consider us at your disposal."
Sage grinned with joy and stood from her seat. "Thank you, all of you. Thank you so much."
There were suddenly several rapid knocks on the door followed by a familiar man barging in. "Have any of you seen Sa-" He paused, seeing the blind woman. "Sage, I've been searching for you." He hurried to her side.
She smiled, recognizing his voice. "I'm sorry if I worried you, Virgil. I simply needed to confide in the prince for a moment."
The white-haired man glanced at the four guys. "Sage told us about her vision," Noctis explained. "We're gonna help."
Virgil let out an exasperated sigh. "Sage, you can't go off on your own and drag others into our problems."
"But, Virgil," she argued. "We need their help. I... I can't lose you." The man's eyes widened in surprise. "You've been by my side for so long. What would I do without you? I'd be all alone."
She reached out, her hand finding his chest. Confirming that he was in front of her, she wrapped her arms around him in a hug. He returned her embrace while thinking over her words. It's not like he wanted to die, but if he had to choose between her life or his, he'd choose hers without a second thought. But then the problem would be that Sage would be left all alone in a world she can't navigate herself. It actually was important that he survive, for her sake.
He slowly released her, a faint smile on his lips as he looked to the prince. "Thank you, Your Highness. We'll accept your help with this matter."
That day passed by without a problem. Sage did readings for many people, giving them a glimpse into their futures. She would give them warnings and instructions on how to alter bad events. In the end, everything went smoothly. But the following day was different. Strangers had come to the town, and they disliked the Seer.
The Seers had long been seen as cowards by some for hiding themselves in Accordo. To some, Sage was simply out to clear her family name, and that she left Insomnia to fall out of fear for her own safety. But none of that was the least bit true, though that didn't stop small riots from occurring.
The citizens who had gathered to have their futures told were pushed aside by the protesters. Everything happened so quickly. Sage and Virgil found themselves surrounded. Fortunately, the hunters were holding back the horde, but their efforts wouldn't last forever. Noctis and his friends were moving in, shoving their way through the crowds to get to Sage.
"What do we do?" Noctis inquired.
"We need to get Sage out of here before things get out of hand," Ignis said.
"Do you think you guys could clear a path?" Virgil asked them.
Gladio smirked. "Leave it to us."
"Look out!" Prompto cried.
They all followed his gaze to see a man among the crowd with a gun aimed at the Seer. Virgil instantly reacted by pulling Sage against him and holding her tightly, shielding her from harm. A gunshot rang out. Sage stiffened in fear at the noise and latched onto Virgil. The white-haired man glanced back, seeing that Prompto was the one who'd fired a gun.
He had shot the man's wrist, successfully disarming him without fatally wounding him. The riot had quieted by the gunshot. The hunters then reacted, a couple of them tackling the man who had tried to shoot Sage. Gladio noticed the opportunity.
"C'mon, let's move!" he ordered.
Virgil swiftly lifted Sage up in his arms and followed the tattooed man. Gladio summoned his shield and made a path through the crowd. Virgil was right behind him with the others following, leaving the hunters to deal with the troublemakers. They quickly found themselves in the safety of the Seer's hotel room.
"Virgil, are you okay?" Sage asked as soon as she was placed back on her feet.
He panted but smiled lightly. "Yeah, I'm fine. It's all thanks to these guys." He looked to the four boys.
"No sweat," Noctis responded after catching his breath. "I'm just glad we all got out unscathed."
"You did good, Prompto," Gladio complimented, giving the blond a rough pat on the back.
"Indeed," Ignis agreed. "You made an on-the-spot decision and protected the lives of two individuals."
The gunman blushed and rubbed the back of his neck in embarrassment. "Aww, it was nothing."
"Thank you," Sage interrupted. "Thank you all so much. The future I saw has been altered, and it's all because of you four."
She stuck a hand out, which Noctis took. She clasped his hand in both of hers, shaking it firmly in thanks. After releasing him, she turned back toward Virgil and slipped off her veil, tears of pure joy forming in her white eyes. Her bodyguard noticed, his eyes widening with worry.
"Sage, what's wrong?"
She smiled, her tears falling. "I'm just... so happy you're alright. When I heard that gunshot back there...it felt like my heart stopped. I thought I was... going to lose you."
He moved closer and reached up, wiping her tears away. "You don't have to worry about that. I'm not going anywhere anytime soon, our new friends made sure of that." He rested his hands against her face while simultaneously tilting her head up toward him. "Sage, do you mind if I..."
Without finishing his question, he leaned down, pressing his lips against hers. She was taken by surprise for a second before returning the kiss. Prompto was quick to snap a picture of the couple before they parted. Sage couldn't help but giggle.
"I foresaw that this would happen one day."
"You did?" Virgil questioned. "You knew how I felt all along?"
"I did," she admitted. "I couldn't say anything for fear of changing the course of this event. I've always loved you though."
"And I love you," he said with a smile.
"We'll just... give you two some privacy," Ignis said, ushering the others out with him.
Sage quickly turned toward them. "Wait." They paused. "I really can't thank you all enough. Virgil and I will be leaving town tomorrow. But I feel like our paths will cross again someday."
The prince smiled lightly. "I hope they do."
Soon enough, the four boys had to say farewell to their new friends. Sage and Virgil would continue their efforts to help people while Noctis and his group would continue their own journey. And one day, they would meet again, but that wouldn't be until darkness blanketed the world. And Sage would be there once again to guide the Chosen King to his destiny.
The End
