(FFXV) Seer 3

Noctis was now seated in one of the leather chairs. Virgil pulled another seat over in front of the prince. The man then took Sage's hand and guided her to the chair where she sat with a small smile. Virgil and Noctis's friends stood by, watching. The Seer held a hand out toward the prince.

"Give me your hand," she said. Noctis slowly reached out, taking her outstretched hand. She then placed her other hand over the top of his, grasping it lightly. "Allow me to first delve into your past. I wish to know more of the troubles you've already faced."

"Knock yourself out," he casually replied.

Sage concentrated. Visions filled her head. She could see Noctis as a child along with everything he went through. Her expression saddened. "You lost your mother at a young age." Her statement caused him to stiffen slightly. "And you recently lost your father and your home as well. You've already faced many hardships, but many more await you still."

"I know that I am chosen by the Crystal," Noctis interrupted. "I know that I'll have a lot to deal with. But all I want to know is - do I succeed in the end?"

Sage hummed in thought. "That is difficult to say. Fate is a fickle thing. Some outcomes depend on words or actions, but there are some things that cannot be changed. I see many trials ahead that depend solely on your actions. But from what I can tell, your destiny cannot be altered. One day, the King of Light will rise to purge the darkness of this world."

She released his hand, unable to see more. "Do you know anything about Luna's future?" he asked.

"The Oracle?" She slowly shook her head. "I'm afraid her fate is already sealed. She will perish for the sake of awakening your true power. She will give up her own life so that you can fulfill your calling."

Noctis clenched his fists. "No, that can't be right." He abruptly stood. "She can't do that!"

"But she will," Sage argued. "She has chosen her path. Lady Lunafreya knows the price she must pay, and yet, she does it all for you... She must really love you, Prince Noctis."

Noctis turned on his heel and marched out of the room in a fury. "Please, forgive his behavior," Ignis said apologetically.

"It's alright." Sage let out a sigh. "Not everyone can handle knowing what lies in wait." Virgil lowered his gaze to the floor, a sad look in his eye. Gladio noticed it, but remained silent. "Perhaps I... said too much."

"You were only trying to help," Prompto assured, not wanting her to feel guilty. "By the way, could you possibly read my future too?"

A smile graced the woman's lips. "Of course, I'd be happy to give each of you a bit of insight as to what awaits you."

"I'll pass," Gladio said. "I'd better go check on Noct."

He left, but Ignis and Prompto stayed, curious to know what lied in wait for them. Prompto was first, sitting down and giving her his hand. Sage concentrated, delving into his past before seeing what his future held.

"You poor thing." Prompto gulped, hoping she wouldn't reveal anything with Ignis listening. "You will discover many truths about yourself that will change your outlook. You will have to learn to look past your discoveries in order to help the ones you care about."

Prompto stood and moved aside, his silence hinting at his intense thinking process. It was now Ignis's turn. He watched the blind woman in front of him as she concentrated. His past was pretty ordinary, but his future was the complete opposite.

"You will have tough choices to make, choices that will change the lives around you. But despite the decision you make, you will suffer a great loss in order to protect your dear friend."

The advisor's mind was immediately calculating what that could mean. Virgil was used to seeing the expressions people made upon hearing their futures, and the two guests were no different.

"Don't try to figure it out," he suggested. "If you obsess over your future, you'll only drive yourselves crazy."

Ignis nodded in agreement. "I suppose you're right. We'll understand the events when they actually happen."

"Many people make that mistake," Sage explained. "That's why I don't usually do full readings for everyone. People will jump to conclusions and only cause trouble for themselves and others."

"I could see that happening," Prompto stated. He then sighed. "Guess we'd better go on back to our room."

"May we join you for a bit?" the woman asked. "There is one last thing I need to say to the prince."

"But, Sage," Virgil argued, "it's already getting late. You need to rest up after our trip."

Sage stood. "Which is why I'll make it quick. You could always wait for me here, if you'd prefer."

She took her veil and fixed it back over her face. Virgil sighed in defeat and swiftly followed Ignis and Prompto, leading the blind woman with his footsteps as he always did. They passed by the two hunters standing guard and climbed down the stairs. They entered the boys' room. Noctis and Gladio both looked at Sage and Virgil.

Sage almost immediately bumped her leg into one of the chairs. Virgil was quick to take her hand and slip an arm around her waist, guiding her around the chair. The woman cleared her throat in embarrassment.

"The layout of this room is quite different from ours."

"What are you two doing here?" Gladio questioned.

"I have something else to say to the prince," the Seer said.

Noctis stood from his seat. "What is it?"

"I wanted to apologize for not going to Insomnia sooner. I could've warned King Regis of the empire's attack."

She lowered her head, and Virgil softly placed a hand on her back. "Sage, I thought we'd been over this."

"I know," she replied. "But I can't help wondering if I could've changed the outcome of that battle, and saved the king."

"It's alright, Sage," Noctis interrupted. "There was nothing you could've done, even if you had been there."

She slowly nodded, accepting his response. "Another thing... I'm sorry if I upset you. It was never my intention, but I suppose I said too much. Just because I can see what the future holds doesn't mean it's meant to be shared."

"It's alright. I'm glad you told me. Now I know what to expect." He frowned a bit.

"Don't dwell on it, Noct," Ignis told him.

"Yeah," Prompto agreed. "The future's the future. We're in the present."

Virgil turned his gaze to the Seer, his expression softening. "C'mon, Sage. You should really get some rest."

"I suppose you're right." She smiled. "Hope you all have a good night."

"You too," Noctis replied.

As soon as Virgil led Sage out of the room, Gladio chuckled. "Y'know, if I didn't know any better, I'd say that bodyguard has a thing for the Seer."

"What makes you say that?" the blond asked.

"You obviously haven't noticed the way his tone and expression change towards her," Ignis added. "Virgil seems like a rather stern, imposing individual. But that demeanor changes when he addresses Sage."

"I thought that was kinda odd," Noctis chimed in. "But if that's the case, then it makes sense."

It was true. Virgil deeply loved Sage - he had since they were teenagers. It was always a well-kept secret that he hid from everyone. Sage was always honest with him, but never had she mentioned a future where they were together. So, Virgil assumed it wasn't meant to be, and instead, carried on with his duty. But deep down, he hoped that he had a future with the woman he loved.
