(FFXV) Seer 1

The beautiful, solid white car sped down the road. Virgil kept his focus in front of him, occasionally glancing at the woman in the backseat through the rearview mirror. He gripped the steering wheel tightly, a quiet sigh escaping his lips. It didn't go unnoticed by Sage's sharp ears.

"What's wrong, Virgil?" she calmly asked.

"It's just... I'm a bit uneasy about this," he admitted. "You know that not everyone agrees with what you do."

She smiled softly. "I know. But if we can brave the confines of the empire, then we can handle things in Lucis as well."

"And you're certain Lestallum's where we need to be?"

She nodded. "Yes. My visions are never wrong. Besides, the local hunters have agreed to act as extra security. Lestallum won't be a problem for us." She lowered her head. "I only wish we had set out sooner - before Insomnia had fallen."

"I know you were looking forward to an audience with King Regis, but at least you can meet his son."

"You're right," she agreed. "I was unable to reach the king in time, but I can find the prince instead. He has so much awaiting him in the future."

Sage descended from a family of Seer's from a rural town in Accordo. For generations, they secluded themselves, being almost forgotten by the rest of Eos. But Sage had a calling, much like the Oracle. She could no longer sit by at home when her visions were telling her to be out in the world helping people.

Virgil was along for the ride. His family had long been tasked with protecting the Seers. He had known Sage from an early age, and was closer to her than anyone else. Even now, he traveled everywhere with her, never leaving her side. He only hoped that things would go smoothly with the aid of the hunters.

Noctis and his friends were looking around at the crowds of people. Lestallum was bustling even more than usual. Hunters were standing by, prepared to intervene if the citizens got too out of control. The four boys were struggling to make it through town. They were only supposed to be picking up a few things from Lestallum's market, but then they heard talk of the Seer's visit.

"Just what is a Seer anyway?" Prompto asked.

"A Seer is someone with a sort of supernatural insight of the past or future," Ignis explained.

"Sorta like a fortune teller," Noctis concluded.

"That's kind of an understatement," Gladio added.

Ignis adjusted his glasses. "I've only ever heard vague tales of the Seers. Truthfully, I'm a bit skeptical as to whether their powers are to be believed in."

"Maybe we should meet this Seer for ourselves," Noctis suggested. "Then we'll find out if it's true or not."

They waited by the road with the dozens of other people. Before long, a beautiful, glistening white car drove in. People immediately started cheering with excitement. The hunters had to spread out and make room for the vehicle. The car slowly pulled into town, carefully parking alongside the road. The dark, tinted windows made it impossible to see inside.

The four boys watched in anticipation. The driver's car door opened, and out came a man. He was close to Ignis in height, had white hair with bangs swept over his right eye, and dressed all in black. A katana was fastened to his hip. He looked around, his visible blue eye scanning over the noisy people.

"Is that the Seer?" Prompto questioned.

"I don't think so," Gladio answered.

The man walked around the car and stopped, opening one of the back doors. He reached inside, delicately taking the woman's hand and helping her out. The young woman had long, white hair pulled back out of her face. She wore a long, pale, lavender-blue dress with sleeves that slipped off her shoulders. She also had on a thick veil that went across her forehead and draped down just above her lips, obscuring her features from view.

"That's the Seer," Ignis confirmed.

It was a struggle for the hunters to hold back the crowds. With Virgil walking right in front of her, Sage followed closely behind, distinguishing his footsteps over the noise. A path was made for them by the hunters, who kept everyone at bay as they proceeded to the center of town. The prince's group followed the crowds, wanting to see the Seer's abilities with their own eyes.

Sage and Virgil both stopped once they had reached the center of town. The area was large enough for many to gather and still see and hear what was going on. The loud chatter finally died down as one woman was allowed through to approach the Seer. It was Holly.

"We're honored to have you here, Lady Sage." Holly bowed her head with respect. "We welcome you to our town."

Sage smiled. "I'm pleased to be here." Holly backed away so that the Seer could make her announcement. "Residents of Lestallum, I stand before you today as a bringer of knowledge." Everyone listened intently. "I will do all I can to answer whatever questions you may have. So, please, feel free to visit me throughout my stay. If I can help you find solace, whether it be in your past or your future, then I will have fulfilled my duty to you all."

A man from the crowd suddenly slipped past the hunters. He darted straight for the woman, a dagger in his hand. Virgil barely saw him coming and was unable to react quickly enough. The stranger was right beside Sage, the edge of his blade lightly touching her neck. At the same time, Virgil, who stood on Sage's other side, had his katana in hand, the blade against the attacker's throat.

The man didn't move though, and Sage hadn't even flinched. People were erupting in gasps and low murmurs. The surrounding hunters were ready to charge in at any moment to help defend the Seer. Even Noctis and his group were getting ready to summon their weapons.

"You're no hero," the man spat, his tone full of fury. "You Seers holed yourselves up for ages. You weren't here when we really needed you. There were so many who would still be alive today if you had only been here sooner."

"Back off," Virgil growled. "I won't hesitate to kill you."

The man scowled. "Touch me, and she dies too."

There was a brief staredown between the two. "Virgil, stand down," Sage ordered.

He looked at her in disbelief. "What? But he-"

"Trust me. Stand down."

Virgil hesitantly retracted his katana and sheathed it, but kept a firm grip on its hilt. Sage slowly raised her hand, lightly placing it over the man's wrist. She immediately had a vision. It included that man, but he was with a woman and a young boy. They were fleeing an imperial invasion, but only the man made it out alive. Sage frowned sadly, understanding.

"I'm sorry," she began, "about your wife and son." The man's eyes widened and he gasped. "You're right, I'm no hero... and I never claimed to be. There are many that I would've saved if I could have. Believe me, that guilt will never leave me. But you mustn't grieve for them. You must push onward, and live for the both of them. Only then will they truly rest in peace."

The man took a step back, a look of bewilderment on his face. Almost immediately, he was tackled by hunters and restrained. "I'm... I'm sorry," he muttered to her, not resisting in the slightest.

"You are forgiven," Sage responded with a small smile. "You're still welcome to visit me, if you like.

He slowly nodded. "Thank you...I...I just might."

The man was later released after having his weapons confiscated. Sage and Virgil retreated to the hotel, eager to rest a bit after their journey. Noctis and his friends had watched the event unfold before them. The way the Seer had known the man's past seemed like a miracle. But they were still unsure of how it worked and whether the Seer could truly predict things like that. But they would soon find out.
