It's 4:36 AM. Blaise and Onyx are sound asleep, but no sign of Draco. It can be assumed that he's staying in Lucille's room yet again.
I can't sleep. Something doesn't feel right. I toss and turn my bed, trying to rid the discomfort concocted in my body.
But I couldn't.
There was something wrong with Lucille, and I knew it; I felt it.
I felt it the moment I touched her hand during dinner.
I just couldn't put my bloody finger on it.
What could be wrong with Lucille?
I was worried; was she sick? Did it have something to do with the Death Eaters?
My mind raced miles when suddenly an owl came tapping its beak on the window with a familiar styled letter.
I jolted up from my bed and slid the window open, receiving the letter it had to offer.
L O R EN Z O B E R K S H I R E
[O P E N I M M E D I A T E L Y]
I flipped over the envelope and saw the wax 'M' sealed on top. This seemed like an emergency.
As my hands sweat, I ripped open the envelope and unfolded the fresh parchment letter.
Dearest Lorenzo Berkshire,
I apologize for waking you up at such a late time, but I sense that you haven't been able to sleep, either. I need you to come to the Manor immediately. This cannot wait- please use the Silver Spoon Port Key and move fast as soon as you put this letter down.
Get rid of this letter. Do whatever you have to do.
And come alone.
Cordially Yours,
Narcissa Malfoy
I didn't hesitate. I ripped up the letter and moved fast. I tossed the letter into the trash and put on a shirt. I grabbed my wand and I fished for the Silver Spoon Port Key in the drawer of my bedside table. As soon as I found it, I lifted it in the air and manifested immediately.
The spinning and churning of my universe occurred, and the air was viciously whipping against me in all directions
I safely landed in front of the Malfoy Manor. I slid the spoon into my pocket and rushed to the front door of the manor.
It opened as soon as I stepped foot near it. I walked in and the manor was silent and dimly lit.
"Narcissa?" I called out.
No answer.
"Hello?"
"I'm in the dining hall," The voice trembled. I sped to the dining hall and saw Narcissa sitting at the head of the table with a glass of bourbon and the bottle itself.
"Are you alright? What's wrong?" I immediately worried, walking towards her. She stared into blank nothingness.
No response. I decided to sit right by her and waited for her to speak. My heart started palpitating. This wasn't good at all.
"Did you feel it?" She mumbled.
"Wha-. Feel what?" I questioned, as my throat tightened.
"When you touched Lucille, did you feel it?" She stared into my eyes with anxiousness and dread.
I gulped. "Yes. Yes, I felt it," I responded, frantically fiddling with the rings on my fingers.
She shuddered and closed her eyes, grasping onto the cup of bourbon. She lifted it up to her lips shakily, and took a small sip, then placing it back down onto the table gently. Anxiousness grew inside me, eager to find out what was happening.
"So it's true," She muttered to herself.
"Narcissa, what's going on? Why did I feel it, too?" I mumbled.
She looked back at me, as her eyes started pooling.
"I've explained this to you when you were younger, Lorenzo," She softy spoke, "Your mother and I share the same ability to sense when something is wrong just by simply touching someone," She sipped her bourbon again, "But Bellatrix never practiced this ability the way I did, and I need you to practice it. I need you to read your senses."
I haven't heard my mother's name in such a long time. Bellatrix. No one knew about my mother being Bellatrix except for Narcissa herself.
Not even Draco.
"Narcissa," I stammered, "Tell me what's going on. Tell me what you felt."
A tear rolled down her cheek, and it only made me feel more anxious. Spill it, woman!
Her eyes stared deeply into mine, biting her lip nervously.
"Lorenzo," She shuddered, "Lucille is pregnant."
Suddenly, my world stopped.
I got up from the chair, pacing back and forth.
"And I'm telling you this because I need you to do something for me-. For Lucille. For your own cousin, Draco," She pleaded.
I grabbed the bourbon bottle from the table and immediately took a swig myself, still in utter shock.
"Lorenzo," she choked up, "Are you listening?"
I stopped my tracks and looked at her.
"You can't tell Draco," She stated. What? Why the fuck wouldn't I tell him?! "You can't tell Lucille, either."
"Narcissa, I can't-"
"You can. Their lives depend on it. You can't tell them. You just-. You just can't" She muttered.
"Give me one good reason why I shouldn't," I queried, as I swigged another gulp of the bourbon.
"Draco cannot be distracted right now, Lorenzo," Narcissa responded, tears rolling down her face, "And Lucille can't distract him much more. Draco needs to finish his task the Dark Lord assigned him, otherwise I'll lose my son," Her lip quivered, trying her best not to break down and cry. "And that poor child might lose their father."
My chest felt heavy. I couldn't fully grasp what was going on right now.
"Narcissa-," I gulped.
"Please, Lorenzo. Please do this for me. I can't lose my son and grandchild-. I just can't-."
I sympathized for her. Deeply.
My own mother didn't even care about her.
Draco and Lucius was all she had.
And now she has a grandchild, too.
I eventually came to my senses and agreed. It was the least I could do after she took me in when my mother went to prison. Narcissa was like a mother to me.
"Okay," I said lowly. "Tell me what you need me to do. I'll do it."
Narcissa looked up at me with pleading eyes. She got up from the chair and immediately embraced me. She wept in my arms, and she was shaking.
"Thank you, Lorenzo," She quivered. She pulled away and wiped her tears.
We both sat back down and got to discussing.
"I need you to protect Lucille. She needs to take care of herself, Lorenzo. She can't drink, she can't do any extraneous activity, and she can't stress so much," Narcissa advised.
Preventing Lucille from stressing was going to be difficult, but I nodded anyways.
"And the reason I tell you this is because you and I both know Draco-. He's not going to be able to focus, and he's not going to listen to me. He's in denial, just like his own father."
There was no doubt about that; Draco hated facing truths.
"You need to protect your family. Your cousin and your niece- or nephew-'s life is on the line. Please keep this conversation between us, and us only."
"Of course, Narcissa," I responded lowly.
"Draco truly loves Lucille. I mean, at first I thought it was puppy love, but the love is there. And it seems to me that it's solid as ever."
"There's no doubt, Narcissa," I added.
Silence emitted the room. She sipped on her bourbon as I took another chug of the bottle itself, highly stressed and super overwhelmed.
"There's a charm you can perform," She blurted, "To ensure that she truly is pregnant. But, I don't doubt our power ability. Though, you can perform it if you'd like,"
"How does it go?" I questioned.
She cleared her throat. "You place your hand on her stomach, or her waist, and you say Reperio Fordus,"
"What will happen if she's, you know," I questioned.
She cracked a small smile. "You can feel the heart beat through your own pulses."
I nodded in amusement.
"Do you know how far along she is?" I asked her.
"It felt 2 months old, the growing thing inside her."
"Ah," I responded.
We both drank from our drinks again.
"Thank you for coming in such short notice, Lorenzo," Narcissa beamed.
"Of course, Narcissa."
She reached over and brushed her hand against my cheek. "I wish Draco would love me the way you do, Lorenzo". Her lip quivered, as a tear rolled down her cheek.
"Ah, don't say that, Narcissa. I'm sure he loves you," I assured her, "A lot, actually,"
Her eyes lightened, "Really...?"
"Really."
She smiled and sniffled. "I'm glad."
Another silence.
"Well, I think it's best if you head back before everyone is awake and you're gone," Narcissa insisted.
"Yes, you're right," I responded fast, as I got up from my chair. I finished the very last drop of the bourbon and let out a burp, then placed the bottle down. "Sorry for finishing your bourbon, Mummy."
She let out a soft chuckle, "Don't worry about it, Enzo. Get back to Hogwarts safely, okay? Report anything back, alright?"
"Yes, of course," I nodded. "See you later, Narcissa."
I walked out the dining hall with pure heaviness in my heart.
Not only did Narcissa and I keep a secret that I was the son of Bellatrix Black Lestrange and Charles Berkshire, but we also kept a secret that Draco was going to be a father.
And I felt sick about keeping secrets.
But some things are better left unsaid.
