VIII. Big Game and Crazy Bludgers

🐍

The day of the big game arrived; even though Umbridge forced it, the nerves and emotions were not lacking. Everyone was with pennants, painted posters supporting their favorite team, banners, and painted their faces.

Y/N was in the Great Hall, wearing his green and silver jumper just like the rest of the team. He was reading the notes Hermione had sent him about the elixir to induce euphoria. The notes were full of extra information. He understood why her essays usually had more pages than the rest of the others. In particular, he noticed her handwriting and tried not to think it was beautiful. Riley and Leo joined him to discuss some plays before the game, causing him to stop reading. Blaise joined the conversation; Y/N pulled out his playbook and began to discuss the plays again. Crabbe and Goyle filled their fat stomachs eating fried eggs, jelly toast, and muffins.

"Stop eating so much; you're going to throw up," said Y/N as they down their muffins.

"We'll cover you in a triangle," Blaise repeated the move.

"Exactly, they'll try to push to get to me and steal the quaffle, but we're stronger," he said. "Leo, try to cover those hoops well," she nodded confidently. "Crabbe and Goyle, I need you to calculate well those hits with the bludgers to burst those chasers. The more we eliminate them indirectly, the much better because they will be watching. You, Draco, please make your best effort to confuse Potter. He is smart but to deconcentrate him would help us a little," the table nodded, listening to the instructions.

Some girls from different houses came to their table with nervous laughter; they had shirts and banners supporting Slytherin.

"Good luck," said a Slytherin girl.

"Good luck L/N, I know you'll do great," said a Ravenclaw girl nervously, as if it was a slight crush; she left quickly, leaving the table a little confused.

"They're crazy about you," Draco mentioned.

"Meh," Y/N said, ignoring them.

"The perfect woman is Astoria Greengrass," said Blaise, sighing with a hardened tone. "She's beautiful, with a good body, pure blood, and her eyes..." Pansy finished elbowing him, and he groaned.

"Don't forget about Daphne Greengrass, Astoria's older sister," Leo said.

"Another beauty, and she's in our year," said Blaise, sighing at the beauty the Greengrass sisters possessed.

At that moment, the Greengrass sisters, with their little group of friends, had approached the table to wish them good luck; both went to Y/N, and he greeted them and thanked them for their good wishes for the match. Daphne looked at Riley; Riley smirked at her, causing Daphne to blush.

"I envy you." Blaise snorted as they left.

"Envy is bad, Zabini," he sneered.

"Losers!" Exclaimed Crabbe and Goyle, peering over the Gryffindor table.

"What are you wearing, Weasley?" Zabini sneered at Ron's helmet, and the others joined in with jeers.

"You suck, Potter!" exclaimed another boy at the table.

Everyone at the table laughed loudly, and the team had risen, as had the Slytherin table.

"Shut up, future Death Eaters." Harry snorted.

"That's your best threat, Potter?" Y/N asked, looking at him thoughtfully.

"Isn't he telling the truth?" Ron asked defiantly.

"If so, we'll take care of that Mudblood you have for a best friend and then you," Draco arched his eyebrow as he made a mocking face.

Harry approached to hit him but was stopped by some of the team. He wanted to give Malfoy his comeuppance for offending her best friend. Hermione got up from the table to calm Harry down by telling him that it wasn't worth it to earn a free punishment. If the tension was high because of the match, it increased even more because of the mini confrontation they at that moment in the Great Hall. Everyone was watching the scene without blinking so as not to miss any detail.

"Why don't we settle this at the Quidditch match?" Y/N dared.

"You're going to lose L/N," Harry's eyes were full of anger.

"We'll see about that, Potter. Get ready to fall off of your cheap broom and how you're going to swallow dirt when you fall off it," he answered determinedly and signaled the team to leave to go to the quidditch pitch. Before leaving, he looked for a few seconds at the brunette with Ron. He was wondering why an insult hadn't come out of his mouth towards her.

"Potter will regret..."

"You'd better shut your mouth Malfoy," Draco quickly shut his mouth. "You almost claim about being Death Eater, something that hasn't passed through our hands. You know we'd be thrown in Azkaban in a second for mentioning if we have any affiliation with the Dark Lord's son. So swallow your tongue and don't speak," everyone was silent when Y/N spoke.

Draco had gone silent; he knew Y/N was right. He didn't say a word during the walk. As they went downstairs, they said goodbye to Pansy, and she wished them good luck. The team entered the locker room, and they could see a blackboard with the quidditch pitch. Y/N, for the thousandth time, repeated to them the plays and things they had to do in the game. Minutes passed, and the Slytherin team could hear the crowd. However, the announcer, Seamus, began to welcome everyone present. Y/N ordered them to settle for their departure to the field. Seamus introduced the Gryffindor team, and everyone could hear the lion on Luna Lovegood's head roaring. Then, Seamus introduced the Slytherin team, but before Draco could get out, Y/N stopped him.

"I'm sorry I shouldn't have talked back to you like that; I'm just trying to protect you because you're like my little brother, and I care about you," he said, and Draco smiled and hugged him sideways. "Let's destroy those lions and Potter," he looked at him, and he smiled and nodded.

Draco flew off on his broom, and the crowd cheered for the Slytherin seeker. Finally, Y/N flew off, and everyone started singing their theme song.

"Feel the serpent's bite, feel the-feel the serpent's bite," they sang, whispering, "Feel the serpent's bite, feel the- feel the- serpent's bite," they raised their voices even higher.

As Y/N settled into position, the crowd at the end of the song ended up hissing like a snake. He walked over to Harry to shake hands.

"Scared Potter?" he mocked, extending his hand.

"You wish," he shook his hand tightly.

They settled back into their positions. Madame Hooch positioned herself in the middle of the circle, looked up and put on her goggles with yellow glasses, and approached the case with the balls. She could feel the case shaking from the two heavy bludgers moving and kicked the case causing it to open. The two bludgers came out along with the snitch.

"The bludgers went out along with the golden snitch. Remember that catching the snitch is 150 points, and the seeker who catches it, the game is over." Seamus informed.

"I don't think I will have to discuss the rules, so I want a fair game when it comes to you," said Madame Hooch; she grabbed the quaffle and threw it up.

"The quaffle is in the air, and the game begins," said Seamus, and everyone started clapping. "Ginny Weasley has the quaffle in her hands, and quickly Blaise tries to snatch it from her but fails in the attempt. Ginny flies fast and passes it to Nick Sawyer, he is approaching the hoop to score, but Y/N steals it and manages to give it to Riley, who was alone.

Riley flew as fast as possible, Ron thought she was going to score, but the chaser threw the quaffle backward and managed to pass it to Y/N; he threw the quaffle and scored in the left hoop.

"It looks like Ron Weasley wasn't expecting that one, don't worry, mate," said Seamus as he watched the play. "L/N scores the first ten points for Slytherin," he put the ten points for Slytherin.

Those rooting for the Slytherin team cheered with much delight, while those rooting for Gryffindor rooted for Ron to give him more confidence. Y/N high-fived Riley, congratulating that great turnout. The weather had turned cloudy; the stadium was starting to turn a little dark.

"The quaffle is in play; Kieran Winston from Gryffindor has the quaffle and dodges the bludger hit by Goyle the beater. He passes it to Ginny Weasley, who is near the scoreline, she throws the quaffle to the right hoop, but then the quaffle takes a turn. Gryffindor scores their first 10 points! Leo wasn't expecting that magnificent curve by the chaser Ginny Weasley." Seamus scored Gryffindor's first points, and the crowd screamed. "Well, the game is tied 10 to 10."

Y/N caught the quaffle and, with great skill, dodged all attempts to have the quaffle stolen. A bludger by one of the Weasley twins had been blown to stop Y/N, it wasn't enough to stop him, and he saw that Blaise was next to him, he passed it by punching the quaffle. The quaffle landed in Blaise's hands. Ron had his sights set on Blaise and any intentions he had. Quickly Blaise passed it to Riley; Ron focused on covering the middle hoop; didn't notice that the quaffle was going to the right hoop because of Riley's shot. So with all the effort, he hit the quaffle.

"Weasley won't let the quaffle go in!" exclaimed Seamus and the crowd supporting the Lions and Ron.

One hour passed, and the game was still on, so much pressure that the game was 130-120 in favor of Slytherin. It was raining, and it was more challenging to play in those conditions. Nick Sawyer scored another 10 points to tie the game while Draco and Harry were trying to find the snitch. Crabbe was going to hit one of the bludgers but missed, and inadvertently the hardball came back, causing it to hit his shoulder. For obvious reasons, he ended up dropping the small bat and groaned in pain. Y/N looked closely at the scene and could see that Riley checked him, but the other bludger hit her broom. Riley went straight to the ground, getting hurt. The bludger that beat Crabbe had also crash Nick in the stomach, then Kieran causing them to fall to the ground as well.

"The bludgers seem to be out of control in this game," Seamus commented with concern.

The crowd was no longer cheering as before; they were worried that one of the bludgers would hit another player. Y/N picked up the small bat that Crabbe had dropped from the ground to defend the players, and he saw that a bludger was heading straight for the crowd. He flew quickly before the bludger could hit someone. Y/N arrived and batted the bludger upwards, looked at the threatened group, and noticed that Hermione was part of the crowd. He saved her from a deadly bludger. For a second, they made contact. Y/N saw that the girl with bushy hair had her wand in her hand; the fear on her face was evident, and to transmit confidence, he nodded at her.

The other bludger was following the seekers. The Weasley twins were trying to hit it, but they couldn't; even Madame Hooch realized that someone had cast a spell on the bludgers, she wanted to stop them. Still, it seemed to be very advanced magic never seen before. The bludger hit Draco's back, and he fell off his broom. The hardball followed Harry, but unfortunately, it impacted his shoulder. He was completely off balance on the broom as he groaned in pain; Y/N quickly came to his aid, giving him a space to get on his broom. He slowly set Harry down to be attended soon and climbed back up to fight the bludgers.

"Everyone, get off the field!" Madame Hooch exclaimed, telling everyone.

Ron stood still as he watched his opponents, his team, and his best friend being hurt. He was transfixed; Y/N looked at him. At first, he wanted to leave him, and he begins complained because he started to question himself. With annoyance, he went over to him to talk some sense.

"Wake up, Weasley!" He exclaimed, waving his arm quickly, but Ron didn't respond, "Damn it, we have to go!" He slapped him in the face, not too hard, and that at least worked to wake him up to reality.

"What...?" he asked himself, confused.

"We have to get out of here, move! Watch out, Weas...

Y/N didn't finish because he pushed Ron away, and one bludger had whipped against his cheek, the other whipped against his head from the back. Everything went black in a second, but he could hear Dolores Umbridge's irritating voice before he fell off his broom.
