Chapter 10
Lilly's P.O.V
"He knows where I am, Kinsley, so why the hell is he not coming after me?"
This entire wait for Killian to show himself was frustrating me. It's been over three months since I found out that he's alive, and god knows how long it's been since he found about me.
Why was he waiting? What was taking him so long?
"Lilly, I can't answer that, but what I do know is, he's been very quiet lately. He still doesn't know that you were unaware of him being alive and he doesn't know that I'm the one who kept you two apart."
All the hurt and betrayal I felt the first time I heard that came rushing back. I still couldn't understand how she could do something like. How could she make Rose grow up without her father?
"I'd be lying if I said I forgive you for doing that. You could have saved me a lot of tears and heartbreak. Rose could have gotten to know her dad. I wouldn't have had Killian possibly planning the cruellest and painful way to kill me right now!"
She was quiet on the phone. I took a deep breath and tried to calm myself, I knew that getting angry at Kinsley wouldn't solve any of my problems.
"Lil, Killian would never kill you."
It wasn't Kinsley who responded, but Jessy. It was a three-way conversation that we were having.
"Jessy, Killian is not like Mik, he's going to see what I did as a betrayal."
Kinsley swore, "What you did? You didn't do anything wrong, Lilly! And besides, no matter what you do, Killian would never kill you."
I would like to believe her, but I knew better. I remembered all the times when we were together when Killian felt the need to tell me what would happen to me if I ever betrayed him. I knew he was planning something, and I knew that it was going to be big.
Both Jessy and Kinsley was trying very hard to convince me that I had nothing to fear from Killian, but it wasn't working. I rubbed the side of my head because I started feeling a headache coming on. I was tired of all the drama and bullshit in my life, and as much as I wanted Rose to get to know her father, I didn't want my daughter to grow up in Killian's world.
"Listen to me Lilly, Killian is not going to hurt you cause I'm not going to give him the chance. Cara still works for me, so I'll call her in and find out what my brother has planned."
Hearing her talk about the woman that she paid to sleep with her brother made me angry. I knew it was unfair of me to be jealous when I've moved on as well. It's not that I don't love Killian because I still do, that would never change. It's just that, I'm a mother now and I must think about what's best for my daughters, and that's not Killian.
That day when Noah asked me if I would choose him over Killian, I knew immediately I would because of my daughters. I might not love Noah as much as I love Killian, but he's what my daughters know. The both trust and love him, I couldn't take them away from him and force a stranger onto them, because as much as Killian is Rose's father, he's still a stranger to her.
"Guys, I've got to go before Mik comes back and finds me on his phone. He doesn't know that I've been in contact with you all these years, and I'd like to keep it that way."
She paused, then took a deep breath, letting it out slowly. "Lil, when this is all over and our lives are back to being somewhat normal, I look forward to our kids meeting each other."
I smiled, "Yeah, I'd like that too."
"I love both you crazy bitches," she said before ending the call, leaving Kins and me.
Kinsley's sighed too, "I've got to get going too, my shift starts in a few minutes and I can't be late again this week."
I felt tears come to my eyes, I missed my friends, I missed the way we used to be. However, I knew that it was all for the best and the only thing that kept me from falling apart, is knowing that we'd one day see each other again.
"Yeah, go, I wouldn't want you to be late. And um... say hi to Jason for me."
She was quiet on the other end of the phone. I knew that I was making her feel guilty, but I didn't care. After all the years we've been talking, I still couldn't believe that she never told me about her and Jason.
"Look, Lilly," she finally spoke, "I'm sorry I never told you, I swear I wanted to, but I was scared you might not approve."
"Why the f**k wouldn't I approve? It's your life Kinsley, I just thought that we were sisters. I've told you almost everything about my life, I've shared secrets and pain with you, I just thought you'd have trusted me enough to do the same, but I guess I was wrong."
She sucked in a breath, I could tell that my words were hurting her. I wanted to make excuses for her action, but I kept thing about how her actions hurt me.
"I'm so sorry Lilly, I should have told you about Jason and I should have told you that Killian was alive."
Hearing her mentioning yet another secret that she kept from me, made me angry and hella mad.
"Yes, you should have! It was not your right to keep me in the dark, you knew how much I loved him, you knew the pain I felt thinking he was dead! My daughter... his daughter grew up without her dad, she thinks he's dead! Now tell me, Kinsley, how am I going to tell her that he's alive and coming for her? How am I going to tell her that her dad probably wants to kill Noah, the only father she has ever known?"
When she spoke, her voice shook like she was crying and it took everything in me not to feel sympathy for her.
"Oh my god, Lilly, I f**ked up big time, I'm really sorry. It's just... we weren't sure that he was going to make it and I thought about telling you, but I knew that it would have torn you apart if you had to watch him die all over again. However, by the time he pulled through fully, you were in a good place and I didn't want to upset that, so, when Killian finally remembered you..."
I gasped, "He forgot me." I whispered softly to myself.
"...I had no choice but to stick to our plan and tell him that Natasha killed you."
My voice rose as I spoke, "What the f**k, Kinsley, you told him that I was dead! So, let me get this straight, my psycho husband is out there somewhere thinking that I left him to die, and tried to fake my death so that he couldn't find me?"
She tried to say something but I cut her off, I was too pissed off to say anything nice to her, and I didn't want to ruin our friendship any more than it already was.
"Look, Kinsley, I've got to go... I've um, I've got... I um, I've just got to go."
I didn't wait to hear her apologise again, I just hang the phone up and banged it down on the table. Running my hand through the wig I wear out in public, I sighed. I wanted to hate her for what she did, but I couldn't because I knew that in her own messed up way, she was just doing what she thought was best.
My alarm on my phone starting buzzing and I curse. Grabbing my handbag and all of the projects that I spent my weekend marking, I headed through the door. I couldn't be late for class again. Just as I grabbed my jacket and keys, I saw that Rose left her favourite doll that she wanted to carry to school for her show and tell. I cursed again, knowing that I'd have to make a diversion to her school before I go to work.
However, my phone rang just as I was about to pick it up. I shuffled my bag, my jacket and the papers I was holding into one hand, and answered the phone with the next.
"Hello?" My voice sounded very breathy.
"Still at home, Angel."
I laughed, no one knows me more than Noah. "I'm just on my way out now, but I'll have to pass by Rose's school to drop off Mellie."
I heard cars honking and soft music playing in the background. "You head out to work, I'm on my way over there now to get Mellie."
Pausing, I balanced my bag and the papers that desperately wanted to fall. When everything was secure, I continued talking.
"Oh, thank god, you're a lifesaver!"
Noah chuckled, "That's what I'm here for Angel, anything to make your life easier."
It was hard for me to balance the phone between my shoulder and my ear, but I did it so that I could open the door. As I made my way to my car, I quickly dumped the stuff I was holding in the back then got in and started driving. Once I got the car started, I put my hands-free on.
"Okay, I'm in the car now, so I should reach there just before the first bell goes, hopefully. If not, then I'm definitely going to get fired."
Noah just laughed like a said the funniest thing in the world. "You're not going to get fired, they need you in that school."
I nodded because he was so right. When I first started teaching there, I could tell that most of the teachers did not give a shit about the students. However, it was understandable because most of the students acted like they run the school just because their parents were on the school board, or because they were filthy rich.
"That's beside the point, I just need to stop getting there with only minutes to spare."
My phone started beeping and when I checked it, I saw Freya's number. I frowned, hoping she wasn't calling because she somehow got herself into trouble.
"Noah, I've got Freya calling on the other line, so I'm going to go answer her. I'll see you when I get home later, Okay?"
"Sure thing, Angel."
I quickly switched over to answer Freya. "Hey, sweetie."
"Hi mom," she whispered, "Can you come get me and Gabe, please?"
Her tone had me worried, she definitely didn't sound like she was in school, where she was supposed to be.
"Why do I need to come and get you and Gabe when you two are in school?"
I heard whispering, it sounded like Gabe was trying to get Freya to tell me exactly what was going, but Freya wasn't having any of it.
"Yeah, about that...you see the things is, we were at school but then we left school and now we need you to come get us and take us back to school."
I sighed. Pulling my car off to the side of the road, I asked for her location, and once I got it, I turned the car around and went to pick them up. I knew that being late was inevitable, there was no chance of me making it to her and back to school in five minutes.
When I arrived at the address she gave me, it was to find her and Gabe standing at the side of the rood. The neighbourhood was not what I expected, and my daughter and her boyfriend looked out of place in it.
As I pulled up to them, they both got in, but I refused to drive off. I needed answers and we weren't going anywhere until I got some.
"So, which one of you will be going first?"
They both just looked at each other, but no one volunteered an answer. I gave them both a look that said that I wasn't moving the car one inch unless one or both of them told me exactly why they were not at school.
Again, they refused to answer, so, I did what any normal parent would do. I got out of the car and started walking towards the house that they were standing in front of.
Freya exited the car first, "Mom, what are you doing?" She whispered harshly. However, I ignored her just like she ignored me. When I was almost to the door, Gabe stopped me.
"I forgot my books at home and Freya came with me to get them... this is my house."
I turned to give him a sceptical look. The house was not one I'd ever envisioned Gabe living in. It looked like something out of a million-dollar real estate agent advertisement.
"So, if I rang the doorbell right now, your dad would come out?"
A terrified look appeared on his face, but he nodded. I hesitated a bit but decided against ringing the bell.
I sighed, "Alright, I believe you," I said as we walked back to the car. When we were all in, I turned to Gabe, "Answer me this one question, I'm assuming that you came here by car, so why didn't you use that same car to drive yourself back to school?"
Gabe cast a look at the house, I saw a flicker of rage in his eyes but then it was gone.
"I got into a fight with my dad and he took the keys."
"Okay," I said, "Let's get you kids back to school."
As I started to drive off, I saw Gabe's shoulders relaxed, and he started to breathe easy. The drive to school was done in silence, and we ended up being forty-five minutes late.

"Do I have to do everything myself, I told those morons to stay under the f**king radar!"
I grabbed my gun from Levi and started walking into the building that some of my guys were trapped in. They had a simple job to do, get information on Natasha's whereabouts and report back to me. However, they went in guns blazing on another crew that was trying to find Natasha as well, but the other crew were better equipped and definitely not idiots.
I checked to make sure that all my weapons were in place, and with the gun in my hand, I started searching the building that looked like it's been left to die. Levi followed behind me, but I told him to go home to his wife and new-born baby. If shit was about to get messy, I didn't want to be responsible for his kid losing its father.
He protested for a while, but in the end, he followed my order and left. I knew that it was risky going into a fight with over twenty well-trained men on my own, but I knew how to take care of myself. I'm the only one who can protect me.
The place was very quiet, I almost believed that there was no one there, but that thought was put to rest when the first bullet zipped past me. I immediately ducked out of the way and returned fire. I took up shelter behind a wall and listen for the direction of the bullets.
Bullets started flying all around me, the way they had me cornered, it was like they expected me to come and set a trap for me. I smiled, I thought that it would have been an easy kill, but I felt the excitement inside of me build as I thought about getting myself out of the hole they thought they had me in.
Closing my eyes, I breathe deeply, calming myself as I listened, counting the bullets and gauging the direction they came from. I opened my eyes and moved to the right, I knew that he'd be reloading so I aimed and pull my trigger then moved back behind the wall. I knew I hit my target because the bullets stopped coming from that direction.
I count four more guys, and just like the first, I took them out too. Just as my bullet left my gun and killed the last guy, I found myself surrounded by over ten men with guns aimed at me.
My face lit up, I love a challenge. I dropped my gun and put my hands in the air. They started moving in slowly, but I stopped them.
"Come on guys, we're not going to let it end like this, are we?"
They kept coming at me, but I wasn't giving up. "Don't tell me that you're afraid that you'll get your ass kicked by a girl."
They all stopped and looked at each other and I saw the moment that they decided to sign their own death warrant. The first one stepped forward, dropping his gun. He tried to punch me, but I sidestepped him. He started getting angry, but I dodged every hit. I knew that by playing with him, he'd get angry and do something hasty.
I didn't have to wait long for him to strike me and when he did, I grabbed his hand and snapped it, then kicked him on the back of his leg, making him fall to the ground in pain. Using my speed to my advantage, I snapped his neck. The others looked at their fallen friend then came at me.
I used my slenderness to help me fight, and because I was focused, I had the upper hand. They were angry and fighting with emotion instead of with their head. I judged every movement and blocked as many as I could. I took a few hits, but I ended up coming out of it alive.
Looking at my handy work, I smiled. However, from the sound of the approaching footsteps, I knew that it was not over, but I knew that I wasn't leaving there without my men and the guy with the information about Natasha's whereabout.
Because I wasn't sure how many there were, I hid behind a crate and waited. They stopped when they saw the men lying on the ground. One of them radioed back that they were all dead, and the order came through for them to find me before the boss showed up.
I watched as they moved out, then I went back to the bodies and collected the guns. I mean, a girl can never have too many guns.
With my guns in hand, I waited for them to circle back around and when they did, I positioned myself to take them all out, but I never got the chance. Just as I raised my gun, I felt a sharp blade at my throat and a strong hand around my waist, holding me in place.
I sighed, letting my hand fall to my side.
"That's a good girl," the person said.
"Didn't your mother teach not to sneak up on a girl?" I asked.
He chuckled, "Actually, no, she never taught me much of anything, she died at an age when I didn't give a f**K."
His voice displayed anger as much as he tried to make light of it. I knew that his mother was a sore topic for him.
Deciding not to push my luck with a blade to my neck, I did what I did best in situations like these.
"So, are you planning to slit my throat, or do you have something a little more fun in mind? You must want to know what I know, am I right to assume that you're the big boss of those dead guys over there?"
He chuckled, "First, slitting your throat would be way too easy and secondly, you're right, I am the boss and I'm fast realising that sending in idiots to the jobs was a mistake. I should have just done it myself.
I sighed, "Tell me about it, good help is so hard to find these days."
I wanted to keep him talking as I worked the blade out of my sleeve, but he caught on to what I was doing.
"Now, now, and here I was thinking that we were getting along so well."
I shrugged, "A girl's gotta try, right?"
His hands tightened around me, "Enough fooling around. You've been causing a lot of problems for me lately and I think it's time I found out why."
The blade moved from my throat and he spun me around, whiles asking, "Who the f**k are you?"
I was about to give him a witty reply but the words got caught in my throat when I saw his face, and I wasn't the only one who was caught by surprise.
"Red?" He said, looking at me confused.
I could barely get the name out of my mouth, but even as I did, I still didn't believe that he was standing in front of me.
"Killian."
