ChapterFourteen-They're A Disaster
September 13th, 2007
It's a few days later, and UTurn are at a meeting with the screenwriters of their web series. The members had been busy recording on their third album. They now have a bit of time to start filming their new series.
The screenwriters were made up of students from Boston College who were doing this for both grades and earnings. One of them told the UTurn members, "We have created a title for your web series. It's called, Breaking Out of High School. We've created numerous character ideas for you."
The members were given the character descriptions. After a few minutes of reading, the members were apparently confused.
Andrew asked, "Why is my character either a brainless prick, or some suicidal villain...or both? Do some of the former Beacon Hill High students want me dead or something?"
One of the other screenwriters spoke up, "Well, a couple of the people from the production crew were the ones who created these character ideas."
Andrew scoffed, "Of course."
Then Alyson asked, "So, these 'producers' gave us a mess of different characters? Do they expect us to clean this up?"
Another screenwriter replied, "I guess. They seemed like they were having fun writing your characters."
Justin asked in a stiff voice, "Do you have the scripts?"
The first screenwriter responded, "Yeah, we got the scripts. In each 30-minute episode, you will be having one song to perform at the end. There are a total of 25 webisodes, and so far we've written five webisodes. We're in the middle of writing webisodes 6 and 7."
"When do we need to learn the lines by?"
"Well, because your manager is being such an impatient prick," the screenwriter said reluctantly, "we start filming this Saturday."
With that, the UTurn members were furious. They started arguing with the screenwriters. One of writers told them, "Look, we're on your side, but we have to do this."
Andrew argued, "So we have to learn our lines by this Saturday? While recording our third album? And how are we gonna convince our choreograph to create 25 dance routines immediately?"
"I doubt your choreographer would be willing to do that, so..."
"So I have create the dance routines for UTurn?" Andrew asked angrily.
Alyson spoke up, "Andrew, some of us had dance training in the past. We can all help each other. But I don't like any of this either."
Then the scriptwriter turned to Justin, "One of the producers told me to ask you if you ever wore glasses."
Justin replied suspiciously, "Yeah, I did, but I haven't been wearing them since I was 11. Why?"
"The producers want you to wear glasses."
Justin rolled his eyes.
It's an hour later, and the UTurn members were at a low-key, posh bistro. They wanted to be out in public, but they didn't want to deal with any questions. Sure, they love their fans, but they had more important things to straighten out.
When they entered the bistro, they all wore sunglasses and some type of headwear so no one would recognize them. They grabbed two tables so all eight of them could sit together.
Alyson was the first to speak, "Okay, we have an enormous mess in front of us. We given characters that made us look like idiots. We have to create 25 dance routines. We just started recording our third album. We have write 20 songs for our secret album. And we have to find a venue for the real UTurn."
Andrew, who was looking at the five scripts, said, "In the first episode, we 'sing' Celebration. Since there's already a dance routine, we don't need to create new choreography. But for the rest of the episodes, we have to. How many of you had dance training?"
Justin, Alyson, Bailey, Libby, and Stacie all raised their hands. Amanda made a 'sort of' gesture, while Trevor made no response. Then Andrew said, "Okay, we all have to work together to create dance routines. Since I'm a Broadway prodigy and a technical dancer, I'll oversee the choreography that's being made"
Justin asked, "Why you?"
He replied with slight arrogance in his voice, "It's cuz I was trained the most out of everyone. Look, you need someone who's a professional to make sure the choreography is perfect...or at least doesn't look rushed. And that someone is me."
Bailey spoke up in an irritated tone, "Okay, since we basically settled that Andrew is slightly big-headed yet unfortunately right, we need to figure out our characters."
Trevor said, "Based on the scripts, it seems our characters were already decided for us. I'm supposedly the athlete. Andrew's a ditz and a jerk. Alyson is exactly like Andrew. Justin is an all-American genius. Bailey is some hipster. Libby is the ultimate mean girl. Stacie is Libby's backup. And Amanda is an emo."
Justin asked Trevor in shock, "I'm American?"
Trevor replied, "Yeah, and you're brainy."
He muttered under his breath, "No wonder those so-called 'producers' wanted me to wear glasses."
Andrew said to Justin, "Justin, you've lived in America for almost 10 years. You would've picked up our accent by now, which you kinda did."
Justin responded, "Yeah, but this is a full-on American accent. Since we barely have time to rehearse our lines, my American accent will be rough."
Bailey said, "Justin, everything's going to be rough because it's all rushed."
Amanda asked, "Justin, since when do you wear glasses?"
Justin replied, "I used to wear glasses since I was 6. When I moved to America, I was still wearing glasses. Andrew, Alyson, Libby, Bailey, and Ethan have seen me wearing them. When I started middle school, I'm not sure if Stacie has seen me wearing them."
Stacie responded, "I vaguely remember that, but I remember seeing you without them."
Trevor asked Justin, "So why did you stop wearing glasses?"
Justin replied, "When I started playing American football, I had to wear contact lenses. I've been wearing them ever since."
Alyson asked, "Do you still have your old glasses?"
"I do, but there are several problems. 1, I had my eyes checked after UTurn got signed, and vision has changed a bit since I was 11. I'm 18 now, so I'm not sure if I can still see well with them. 2, I want avoid my family as much as I can. My parents have been grilling me since they caught my two little sisters watching and looking at Russian UTurn near-porn. They're even asking me if I've gone bisexual. I keep telling them that I'm still with Bailey, and I express no interest in blokes...not that they had a problem with gays and bisexuals. I want to tell them that I'm being blackmailed into being some sex object, but I can't."
Bailey kissed on Justin's head, and embraced him. Alyson told Justin, "You know, your parents work at Harvard, and it's still afternoon, so your sisters would still be in school. You could sneak into your house and get your old glasses."
Andrew gave a snarky remark, "Or you could just buy reading glasses, or better yet, fake glasses."
Justin responded dryly, "Yeah, like I could find non-nerdy glasses in every shoppe."
Bailey said, "Look, we'll just go to Justin's house, get the glasses, and leave right away. Okay?"
With that, Justin slumped onto his chair.
It's now Friday evening, and UTurn were at Boston College. They arrived at a newly-built dance studio. They were guided by one of students who was working on the set of Breaking Out of High School.
He told the members as he put in student ID card into the door, "I'll stay here outside the studio until you guys are finished, okay?"
Alyson asked, "You won't get locked out of your dorm?"
"Please, it's Friday night. There are no curfews except on weekdays. Besides, I have my student ID card to get in."
Then the guy unlocked the door, and the members went inside. Bailey guided Justin into the dance studio, as he was wearing both his old glasses and his contact lenses. He then asked her with a broken American accent, "What does the studio look like? Everything looks blurry."
Andrew said to Justin with an irritable tone, "Just take off the glasses. You're already wearing contacts."
So Justin took off his glasses, and he was able to see the dance studio. "Looks cool," he commented.
Andrew then said to all the members, "Okay, tomorrow, we begin filming our web series. Since we were busy with recording and writing our third album, we need to create 7 dance routines. So let's get to it."
So each member started taking turns 'teaching' a dance phrase. Each one was really improvising until they created something solid. When it was all finally over, it was almost 3 in the morning.
As each member grabbed their bag, Alyson said them tiredly, "Since we're adults, we can harder and longer...without passing out."
The members didn't say anything, as they were too tired. Then they left the dance studio. As they were walking out, they saw the guy and presumably his girlfriend asleep on the hallway floor. They figured he brought her over, and they ended up falling asleep.
The members left the couple alone, and left the building. Then they went back to their house, and went to sleep for a couple of hours.
It's several hours later, and the UTurn members arrived at their old high school, Beacon Hill High School. This was the location for the filming of their web series. The production crew were waiting for the members to arrive, and they did...about thirty minutes late.
One of the crew members scolded them, "You're late."
Andrew responded breathlessly, "Sorry, we're half-asleep right now."
"Why?"
Andrew gave a snarky response, "Do you have to ask?"
As the members were going to the locker rooms to change into their costumes, one of the members of the film crew told them, "Hey UTurn, you have to lose your Boston accents."
With that, the members turned to the film guy. Alyson got into his face, and said angrily, "Look, we're barely awake because we were working on choreography all night. We barely memorized our lines because we were in the recording studio. Justin had very little time to work on his American accent. Now you tell us to lose our Boston accents? First off, Justin was able to work on his American accent. But you all telling us to lose our 'Boston accents' last minute is totally unprofessional. Plus we know you're from Beacon Hill High cuz you and your vengeful minions are giving us unreasonable demands!"
Amanda chimed in, "I'm not even from Boston, so I don't have the accent."
Andrew added angrily, "Yeah, my accent is strange cuz I lived in Hartford, Connecticut for the first couple of years of my life. And then I lived in Boston in for most of life. So yeah, my accent isn't exactly 'Boston.' So why don't you let us talk how we usually talk, and you shut up and film? Got it?"
Then Justin, who was wearing his glasses without his contacts, asked in his British accent, "And why is my character a brain? I did okay in school, but I wasn't 'brainy.' Andrew and Trevor are the brainy ones."
The guy gave a rude answer, "Why not? I thought you were the smart one since your parents teach at Harvard."
Justin said in an irritable tone, "Okay, but they teach composition, not biology or rocket science. They also taught composition back at Oxford University. They're well-known authors back in England. That doesn't make me a brain."
The guy scoffed, "Yeah, I rest my case. Just make sure you don't show off your bad teeth."
With that, the UTurn members gasped. They all knew that was a British stereotype. Justin, who looked angry, commented in a forced calm voice, "Says the bloke who looks like he got fangs in his mouth."
Everyone in the hallway were impressed by Justin's calmness. Justin's mouth grew a sly smile. Just as the guy was about to say something, the director told the UTurn members to get ready for the filming. "With pleasure," Justin said with a smirk plastered on his face.
Then the members entered the locker-room. Justin threw his duffle bag to the grown hard. The members knew he was pissed. Bailey approached Justin, "Justin, I know you're pissed off. Hell, we're all pissed off."
Justin said, "Yeah, we all are. Look, let's just film this bloody mess, and get out of this hellhole."
Then the members started getting ready.
It's a week later, and UTurn are still doing multiple things. They're recording their third album; writing their secret songs; and filming their web series. By now, they've lost some sleep.
As the members were on break from filming, Amanda approached one of the guys from the crew of the web series. She asked him, "So, what's your name again?"
"Nate," he replied. "Why?"
"Well, are you single?"
"No, I have a girlfriend."
Amanda frowned as she asked nervously, "Who is she?"
"I'm Nate's girlfriend."
Amanda turned to see who it was...it was Stacie! Stacie looked irritated as she sat next to Nate. Amanda asked, "Stacie, since when did you started dating Nate?"
Stacie replied smugly, "Since he and I attended Beacon Hill High. Nate and I had to keep our relationship a secret from everyone because of the stupid restrictions that school had: The cheerleaders who were Alyson's minions are not allowed to date the film crew of the drama club."
Nate added, "And Andrew would always target the drama club, and he's an actor himself. He's pretty good though, but he's a hypocrite."
Amanda groaned as she was walking away. One of the crew members, Stan, noticed Amanda walking in anger. He approached her, and asked, "Amanda, what's wrong?"
Amanda replied rudely, "Like you'd care."
"Hey, try me."
Amanda sighed in annoyance, and replied reluctantly, "Fine. All the girls in UTurn have boyfriends. I can't say who..."
"Alyson and Andrew, Bailey and Justin, and Libby and Trevor?"
"How do you know?" she asked suspiciously.
"It's pretty obvious. Also, they're teasing their fans, and plus I remember watching Andrew and Alyson staring at each other during the classes they share. Seriously, were those two always in love?"
"Yeah, since elementary school. It wasn't until high school when they finally admitted they love each other."
"So, I'm guessing you want Andrew back?"
"I'm over him now. He loves Alyson, and he give her up." Then Amanda grew a smile as she asked Stan, "So, you taken?"
"No, I'm single. Why?"
With that, Amanda kissed Stan on the lips. At the same time, Andrew, who was sitting with Alyson, watched.
