"The fight all you listeners have been waiting for, the battle between a quirk powerhouse and a combat genius...our very own 1-A recommended students!" Mic announced to the crowd, amping them up for the incoming battle. He shot a quick wink to his long time buddy who in return rolled his eyes with a sigh.
"Winning his battles with ease, his quirk is as cold as his eyes, the undeniably strong...Shouto Todoroki!"Endeavor's face was rough, his furious eyes blazing down on his son, urging him to give in and embrace his birth right. Todoroki didn't spare his father a glance even when he could feel the heat on his back.
"VERSUS!" He trained those cold, angry mismatched eyes to stare you down, his face a perfect mask of indifference. You met his stare head on, feathers ruffling in anticipation.
"The hybrid who even with her wings being clipped is soaring high above the competition, my...the little cyborg...[Name] Tenshi!" Neither you nor Todoroki acknowledged the people in the crowd who were giving you distrusting—fearful even—stares, what mattered was between the two of you and Endeavor's hold on his son. The familiar snap of Midnight's whip echoed and you jumped into the air right as the angsty boy slammed a heavy foot to the ground, freezing all the way to where you were just standing.
You skidded slightly on the ice at your landing but stayed relatively undeterred as you pushed forward, using the frictionless ice to slide forward towards him. Todoroki didn't bat an eyelash at your dodge, he's seen you in action. You analyzed battles quickly and your body acted accordingly, your speed wasn't up to the level of Iida—at least on the ground—but mixed with your dexterity and your experience you were one of the only ones he considered even a slight threat. He had to take you out before you could get in close, or at least make you lose stamina first. He knew he could last longer in a battle of quirk versus quirk.
He sent another wave of ice lined directly at you. Once again you took to the air with a stepping stone of light. You knew if you left it to be a fight of just quirks he had you beat. He had the range and fire power you were lacking, pair that with your unfortunate flightlessness as of now, you had to get in close and attack him where you knew you were better. Todoroki was strong in all aspects, he was one of the best in both long and close rang combat in your class but he still relied too much on his quirk—-half of his quirk—and you were going to use that.
You dropped from the air, diving right down to Todoroki. Your fist echoed loudly with the impact. "Well, fuck." You froze, the metal of your hand punching right into a wall of ice instead of him. Your eyes narrowed as you replayed the dodge once again. In battles before it was harder to notice, his attacks were so large and impenetrable but now that it was just you and him in close range finally, you'd hopefully found what you were looking for.
The boy released an icy breath, his body feeling the chin from blasting large attacks already. Todoroki didn't like the analyzing glint in your eyes—unlike Midoriya in the Cavalry battle, who seemed to look into people's souls, knowing their every thought and every movement from so much hero analysis always running through his brain—you seemed to break down his attacks and find the weak points.
Oh well, his ice steadily increased over your arm. You were trapped now and he wasn't going to lose to the likes of you. With a crack, you were free, thanking Hatsume for making the improved appendage a slight heater, it melted the ice just fast enough for you to break free. Todoroki skated back, moving to the other side of the arena but you were quick to follow. This time when you dove down you had glowing birds aim to the left and right of him.
"Dammit." He couldn't move back so Todoroki bit the billet and allowed another massive blast encase the right of him as well as the front where you were. Because he chose to stop you and not your projectiles, they hit with paintball-like force into his left side. His heterochromatic eyes were wide as you pounced during his instability; your foot harshly collided with his left side. You really were quick and ready to use any opportunity to your advantage.
"You could have countered that if you used your fire." You pointed it out like he was in idiot. You weren't not taunting him; but also, he needed to know how inefficient he was being.
"I won't ever use it." He spat out harshly. He kind of reminded you of a child throwing a tantrum, a menacing and icy child. "I don't need that side to beat you. I will beat you, I will crush everyone with just my right side." There were waves of ice shooting out in spikes trying to take you out. One grazed you, the chill in the air and in your body numbing the shallow wound.
"Doubtful." You flipped around and sent a few more painful jabs to his left side. "You're strong but it's pitiful if you only use half your abilities. If I was a villain you'd be dead by now." You spoke to him in a detached, unfamiliar way to the way you normally talked. Your eyes were cold, borderline vacant like you were as a child. The only thing different was the desire to do something, building up and taking over as you attacked. "I heard about your father but I don't understand why, why limit yourself?"
Todoroki stopped himself from being knocked out of bounds with a wall of ice. The chilly air dropping another degree as his mask broke and anger took over. "You don't understand! This has nothing to do with you, you are nothing but a small hindrance to my goal." No matter what attacks he sent out, no matter how many hit you or how cold you were becoming from using your quirk, you stayed targeting his left side. You were going to beat something good so he can stand up the right way... into him.
He stopped his fingertips from brushing over the burned skin around his eye as you held up your arm, well the makeshift one at least. He remembered back to your explanation...your scar was caused by your parents as well. "I understand all too well, I was born as a weapon, a tool to kill but I changed. I didn't forget my past or spite my quirk, I used what they created me for to defeat my parents, to become more!"
"You may understand but we are not the same. I will spite my father I will never use his quirk, I will become the number 1 pro-hero without it. My left side ruined everything, he created me to use it but I will prove to him that his quirk, everything he did was worthless." You were slammed with ice, it cutting into your skin and making you wince in pain.
Your chest hurt for Todoroki, the pain lingering in his eyes was one you hid deep within yourself and you wanted to help him but you didn't know how. Was this really what being a hero entailed for him? Was this a hero, you couldn't believe it. Not after seeing everyone put their heart on the line to win this thing, not after seeing Aizawa almost die for you and his students, not after seeing what a true hero was. If that is what Todoroki thought,, what his father put into his head. You were still unsure of much but you knew he was wrong, you needed to help him...help himself. All you could do was push him to change the same way Aizawa pushed you.
"Thats unbelievably...stupid." His eyes narrowed as you slammed him with a large makeshift hammer. "Just because your dad sucks doesn't mean you should weaken yourself? You do this to spite him? What good would that do if you can't even save yourself? Spite him by using your power better than he ever could, go against what he created you for and become even better dammit! Your quirk is your own so use it!" You spoke with an intensity your 'calm and observant' demeanor usually lacked, visible breaths coming out as you failed to reign in your normally controlled feelings.
Todoroki felt the whips of flames curl inside, slowly a heat began lapping at his palms, engulfing his arm in a blazing fire. You moved just fast enough to avoid the burn, the sleeve on one side of your gym uniform burning away.
"YES SHOUTOOOOO!" Todoroki's eyes went wide with fear at his fathers shout, his flames dying down and being snuffed out. Before Endeavor had a chance to say anymore to his conflicted son, to ruin the possible hero that Todoroki could become, you shut him down. A bright muzzle wrapping around the flame-hero's mouth and throwing him backwards. The crowd gasped with shock, cries of you being evil swept through the crown, but Todoroki...he snorted.
"Thank you." He'd never liked you, he didn't like anyone but to see you shut his father down even when there would be consequences...for him. For you to fight him and show him his weaknesses just so he could become a better hero, so he could see his wrongs...It meant something. Todoroki wasn't sure if you were right, he didn't know what to think but he did know he was going to give you a fight, to do what his classmates were and give it his all.
Readying himself to fight, he looked on confused as you stopped. Even if he was finally allowing his fire out, he was too late. Todoroki shuddered in a pained gasp and sunk to his knee, gripping painfully at his side.
"Being a hero isn't about being number 1, it is about the lives you safe, how many more lives can you save if you use your full power. Don't disrespect us, don't disrespect the heroes trying to teach you, don't disrespect the meaning of being a hero." With that you knocked the boy unconscious, swaying on your feet yourself. Tired and cold as balls, you were sure anyone could hear the clatter of your teeth and the shake of your body as you fully took the brunt of the chill, both internal and external, causing you problems. Man, Todoroki's ice really was the worst and if the battle went on any longer, if he knew how to use your weakness, the results would differ.
You knew you'd regret the decision to basically attack the Number 2 pro-hero, or at least get in trouble since you were always on thin ice anyways, but you wouldn't have done any different. Maybe this could be a way to find Todoroki's escape, to bring attention to his problems and let somebody who knew what the hell they were doing to help the boy.
"And the winner, in an upset, a dramatic battle of icy wits....[Name] Tenshi!" Cementoss picked up Todoroki to bring him to recovery girl no doubt. Midnight was at your side, pulling your swaying figure into her side, letting you use her chest as a pillow.
"You did good, next time though, I expect you to get hit less, I thought you were supposed to be some badass assassin, almost losing to a kid. Hah, you really kept me on the brink! However, you shutting that big muscle-head Endeavor like that really got me going it was stupid but so exciting!" You went lax against her and she chuckled, red lips curling into a warm smile as she wrapped a heated blanket around your shoulders to lead you from the arena.
"Mmm, he's hurting Todoroki somehow...I think he's like me." She frowned but you were too busy basking in warmth to see it. As much as you didn't trust most people, you trusted her enough to lead you blindly around as you kept your eyes closed, face covered by the warm wool.
"We'll take care of it, you just make sure that cutie has you by his side so he's not alone."
"Ok." Midnight wasn't the most mature in some situations but you fully believed her, if she said she'd do something, she would. You breathed out, a smile coming on your face as you realized...I won. I really won this round Aizawa, I can keep showing the world what I can do, show them that I'm going to be a hero because of you, a good one.
Endeavor was waiting for you as you walked back to your seating area. The flames being emitted from his body were even bigger and more menacing than before, he was quite literally hot with anger. You could feel the heat and if you were less worried about the man frying you up, you'd want to curl into him like a nice heater.
"You unruly brat!"Endeavor stepped forward in a powerful gait, only to stop and cross his arms, sneering as Midnight stared him down with a not-so-seductive smile.
"What do we owe the pleasure?" She asked with her ever present coo. Though this one had a bit of an edge, she only talked to Aizawa like that when she was really annoyed with him. Midnight cocked her hip, not at all intimidated by the large, blazing pro-hero.
"Watch yourself, next time I'll take it as a threat." He stalked past you, the heat from his body would have been painful even at a distance. "Keep a leash on your tools Midnight." He growled.
"She's not a tool, I'm sure your son would agree." He stopped but Midnight just kept walking, pushing you forward as well.
"That was tense." You commented, your voice muffled in the blanket. Midnight laughed, Hizashi would thoroughly enjoy the recap and she was positive Aizawa would blow an internal fuse at someone talking bad about his cute little (almost) daughter. She could feel his groan from where she was, you pulled a stunt that was sure to make his life difficult.
"[N-na-me]-chan y-you...!" Izuku was baffled that you had the guts to stand up to Endeavor in such a way. The boy was struggling with the idea that such a popular hero was so cruel and he didn't know what to do to help Todoroki but from your battle he was hoping you did something. Even if it was just bringing attention on why you'd have the need to shut down Endeavor like that.
"Girl, are you insane. Why the hell would you do that to Endeavor!" Izuku was moved out of the way and your classmates surrounded you. Mina was shaking you like crazy as she laughed in psyched joy.
"That was truly a banquet of madness."
"You positively dazzled mademoiselle, if only you were moi then you could have truly shined."
"Congratulations on beating a powerhouse like Todoroki, you and Hagakure are keeping us girls in this!"
"That's if she can beat Bakugou."
Midnight watched you smile with your classmates before strutting away to go start the next match.
*^*^*
Gleaming, teary eyes watched your battle in complete awe, too caught up to even remember to listen read the subtitles of Present Mic's announcing. They were chanting your name, praying for you to win.
"Mom, it's her." An eager voice spoke to her mother as your win was announced. "It's really her. We- I- ahh I have to- I need UA's address, I can finally send her something!" She was bouncing up and down on the couch, fingers excitedly gripping over a large scar running down her thigh.
*
"That's her!" "Kick his ass!" The twin boys cheered loudly as you knocked the pretty boy out.
"Boys... are you sure? She's...she's part of that family."
"I don't care! Look, she's even at UA, she can't be bad."
"She saved us, how could you even think she'd be bad."
"I guess you're right...she brought you both back to me, she's our hero." She placed her hands on her sons heads, pulling them into her even as they protested.
*
"[Name]" An awe'd voice breathed out quietly, sitting in the darkness as they watched your battle on the computer. She didn't believe it when the boy had told her he'd found you but she couldn't deny he was right. Not after seeing you. You were real, not just some figment she imagined to rationalize her escape from that place.
"UA, huh? Interesting." A contented smile passed over his lips as he watched, tail dripping with poisonous intent.
"[Name] Tenshi." Red eyes glinted dangerously, a grin just a bit too wide on his pale face as he watched you silence endeavor momentarily. An ex-assassin at UA, This was sure to be oh so fun!
