Baby Pictures

After the Sports festival everyone had mandatory rest time. So, of course, the girls in your class decided they wanted a girls day to get to know one another better. You really wanted a nap but with a bit of convincing and bribing done by Mina, Hagakure, and Jiro, you gave in.

You were seated in-between Mina and Uraraka and across from Momo, who was smiling contently after she convinced everyone to let her pay for the outing. Everyone was deep in conversation, happily talking about nothing and everything...except for Uraraka who, despite her best effort, wore a false bubbly smile as kept glancing her eyes anxiously to her phone.

You, like everyone else just assumed it was her being disappointed from her loss at the festival still, so you all just took to trying to cheer her up instead of looking deeper into why she seemed so off.

Some of the conversations baffled you slightly, girls that weren't Hatsume talked about way different topics and you weren't prepared. What you were confused on embarrassed you too much to ask the girls you didn't know that well so you vowed to ask Midnight or maybe even Kaminari (who always said he was a resident girl expert and you found no reason to disagree).

The conversations switched from hero talk to schooling and finally landed on family. Everyone's family lives were so happy, exciting, loving...normal. When Tsu brought out her phone to show pictures of her siblings she completely and utterly adored, everyone joined in.

That began the parade of everyone showing their baby pictures and giggling and teasing one another for how goofy and adorable they all were as toddlers. You smiled and truly enjoyed seeing all the pictures, hearing all the fun childhood stories but something deep inside you hurt. You knew sadness but this felt different somehow.

When it was your turn to share, Momo gasped in realization and stood up, bowing as low as possible without hitting the table.

"I am so very sorry, it was cruel of us to talk about our childhoods like that without taking into account what yours was like. Please forgive us, we were not trying to rub anything in or make you feel left out." Hagakure gasped and the rest started trying to apologize but you just laughed, stopping them.

"Don't worry about it, I actually... really like seeing all of this stuff. It's nice to see my friends get to have such happy memories." You gave a smile, at least you hoped. Everyone noticed how wobbly it was but there was honesty shining in your eyes and that was enough. The hesitation some still felt in your presence faded in that moment and a bond formed between you and the girls in class 1-A.

"[Name], you're so cute sometimes, kero." You were piled into a hug that squeezed the life out of you.

You returned so deep in thought you didn't even notice Aizawa wasn't napping in his sleeping bag like normal. You mumbled a hi to the empty yellow sac and plodded idly to the couch, staring at your phone. Your guardian immediately knew something was up, you were never so unobservant.

As much he wasn't into the touchy-feely, today he welcomed the distraction to the conversation he had planned. It needed to be done before all the backlash tomorrow, but dealing with something not directly involving him was always so much easier to deal with.

You couldn't stop thinking about their baby pictures. Their parents had loved them so much that they documented every big moment. It never occurred to you to care, even seeing Kaminari's baby pictures didn't make you feel so bad. Perhaps it was because you thought it was something only his family did, or because he was Kamniari and that was that, but seeing everyone else able to share such fun stories to go along with the cute pictures...it hurt.

Thinking about it made you feel odd. You were happy for them, truly, you were glad your friends had such happy lives; and yet, you felt sad. The feeling was beyond sadness, that's what confounded you. It was gripping at your insides, squeezing you painfully and leaving your thoughts jumbled and angry, questioning why. Why it couldn't be you too.

Aizawa's hand squeezing your head made you jump, startled out of your reverie; however, before you could flip him in surprise, his voice calmed you. "Alright kid, spill. What's got you trapped in that head of yours?" He slumped into the seat beside your own, handing you a jelly pouch as he slurped down his own.

"Everyone has baby pictures." You spoke like that answered everything he needed to know.

"And?" He prompted you to continue with the raise of his brow.

"I just...their parents took pictures of them, they get to forever have proof of their growth, of their good memories, it's proof of their love and I just...why couldn't I...I don't know what I'm feeling but I hate it." Aizawa let out a deep sigh as you stumbled over your words trying to find the right ones to explain what you were feeling and why it bothered you so much. He understood, he always tried to understand.

"That feeling right there," he poked the center of your chest "that's jealousy." Ah, one of the things midnight taught you about. The green eyed monster. It made your eyes burn even more, stinging as you blinked back the desire for stupid tears.

"Am I a bad person for being jealous of them, for wanting something they have but I can't?" Everything you'd ever learned about jealousy had been bad. It always seemed to make people act out and if you were experiencing it, it had to mean you were going to be bad like what you'd been taught.

"No. Everyone experiences jealousy. It's only bad when you act on that jealousy by bringing others down to make them feel as bad as you." You cocked your head in slight confusion. Aizawa shut his eyes and slumped deeper into the couch. "Do you want to make your friends go through what you did so that they can feel the same way you do?"

"Never." You shook your head vehemently, you'd never want anyone else to experience what you have. Just because you didn't have a loving family didn't mean you wanted your friends to lose their happy families as well.

"See...you are not a bad person Ao. You have missed out on a lot, it would be irrational for you not to be jealous; however, remember that as happy as everything seems not everyone's family lives are perfect." Todoroki instantly came to your mind.

"I know, but...I want it, Sho, I want what they have so bad it hurts." You shoved your face into his lightly bandaged chest. He hesitated but ended up placing a hand on your head, holding you close. "I don't understand! Why do I always have to be the one that misses out, why can't I have baby pictures too, why am I the child of murderers, why do I have to be the one without a family!" You sobbed into his chest, begging for answers once more to the painful questions that you forced out of your mind so often.

"I don't know, kid, I don't know." Aizawa rubbed a hand up and down your back as you sniffled. Tomorrow you'd pretend it never happened and berate yourself for crying again, but today you were going to seek solace in your father figure.

As soon as your chest stopped heaving from the sobs racking your body, Aizawa lifted you off of his lap and stood up. "Stay here." You nodded, rubbing your puffy eyes trying to wipe away any remnants of tears but ended up making them more pink and swollen. If you were in a better mood you'd have snarked about him talking to you like a puppy.

Aizawa returned looking even more disheveled than before, it almost seemed as if he was nervous. He had a manilla folder and some sort of book, the latter of which he dropped unceremoniously into your lap. There was no indication of what was in the book by the outside, it was plain black and completely unassuming.

"Open it." When the first page lay flat your breath caught in your throat. The page was full of pictures of you, each with a little caption written in Kayama's elegant script, Nezu's perfect print, or Hizashi's boisterous scrawl.

The first picture was the day Aizawa brought you into Nezu's office. You looked so small resining on Aizawa's back. You covered in grime and your eyes were so cold and fearful. Underneath Nezu had written "Little Tenshi's first day of freedom."

The other pictures weren't too far apart, one was of the first day you'd met Hizashi. He was laughing and you were coated in frosting, your cheeks puffed out from stuffing your mouth with cake. Hizashi had written "Little Cyborg meeting the coolest person ever." The last one on the page was of you and midnight, you looking utterly confused and her giving a saucy wink. "Meeting a sweet little devil in the making."

You didn't even notice any of these pictures being taken. "What...is this?" Your fingers daintily, almost hesitantly, brushed over the pictures on the page.

"Since the first day I brought you here the duo of idiots and Principal Nezu have been taking pictures. It took a bit of convincing, but I agreed and the four of us have been making this for you. I was going to give it to you when you graduated. Now seemed like a better time." Aizawa looked away almost bashfully, that wide-eyed awe in your eyes was too much to bare. "They aren't your baby pictures, but..."

"They're better. I love them, Sho, thank you." You wrapped your arms around Aizawa as tight as you could. He groaned in slight pain, but you made no move loosen your grip.

Aizawa slumped back onto the couch. Your father figure watched with a paternal smile as you flipped through the book, talking about each of the photos and giggling from time to time. There was even one already printed out from the sports festival and you wearing the first place medal.

Only half of the book was filled with pictures, the rest of it was blank and ready to be filled with future adventures of yours. When you flipped to the last page, there was no picture yet; however, in Aizawa's distinct writing it said: "[Name's] adoption" with enough room for a picture to go above it.

"Sho?" You questioned, lower lip quivering. You'd watched the movie 'Annie', you knew all about what adoption was.

Aizawa opened the manilla folder and placed the adoption papers into your lap. He'd signed them all already, Nezu had signed the release forms too, giving Aizawa total custody. It was all ready, all you had to do was say yes. "I can't solve all of your problems, but I can fix one. We might not be family by blood but to me you are my family, so if you feel the same I would like to officially adopt you."

"You want to adopt me...You-you really want to be my dad?" Those puppy eyes you gave him were so hopeful, any fear of being a father, any fear that you'd say no faded away completely. His countenance softened even more as he placed a hand on your head.

"I promise to be the best father I can be; I'll be plus ultra." Your shocked expression split into a ear-to-ear grin.

"Hell yes! I've never wanted anything more." You were beaming, glowing, as you smiled at your guardian- no your dad. You had a real family; a family that loved you unconditionally for you.

You flipped through the papers just to be sure they were really real. One section of the adoption papers was blank, the section to change your surname. You didn't know if Aizawa left it blank because he didn't want you to take his name or what...but if he'd let you, you wanted to take his family name. He was officially your dad now after-all. "I want to take your surname!" You rushed out, thrusting the papers at him and bowing your head in hope that he agrees.

A deep, soft chuckle rumbled from his chest. Aizawa couldn't believe it, you were nervous to ask him that of all things. You were really adorable sometimes. His clueless, dangerous daughter was such a dork.

"I didn't know if you'd want to change your name, but I'd be glad to have you take my name. [Name] Aizawa. It fits." You nodded eagerly in agreement, you liked the sound of it. Taking his name just made it all the more real that you had a family now, that he was your family.

"Does this mean I can call you 'old man' now?" You gave a snarky grin. He winced at the sound, shoving your head down playfully in response. Aizawa was definitely too young to be the father of a teenager, so he was definitely not being called 'old man'

"Only if you want me to ban sweets again." He gave you a fear-inducing grin as you shuddered at the horrible threat. No way, not again.

Aizawa finished up the final piece of the paperwork and snapped a picture of your beaming smile. Then, with the switch in mood only he can do, his face went back to gruff and stone cold. He threw his head back and let out an exasperated sigh, answering his buzzing phone. It was definitely Hizashi, nobody else would garner that reaction from him.

Aizawa held the receiver away from his ear as Mic screamed into the phone. He left the room grumbling at his friend without any real bite, he was too happy for that.

With the unwavering smile still plastered to your face you got out your phone, bouncing on the couch as you waited for Kaminari and Hatsume to answer the group call. You wanted them to be the first people you told. They'd both been there since you started school and you couldn't wait to tell them.

That night Kayama and Hizashi came over to celebrate, and even though it was a school night because he was in such a goo mood Aizawa allowed Kaminari and Hatsume to sleep over.

Principal Nezu even stopped by and you thanked him for allowing you to get adopted. He said it was nothing, the only thing you had to do to repay him was let him hug you whenever he wanted. He got enough sass from Aizawa when he made the dark haired teacher carry him around everywhere, he didn't want you to follow suit and complain when he'd use you as a jungle gym.

(While waiting for your guests to arrive)

While you were waiting for everyone to come over and celebrate, Aizawa sat you down with a pained yet utterly serious look on his face. Whatever conversation you were going to have was apparently not going to be a pleasant one, at least for him. "Ao, how much as Kayama talked to you about dating" he said the word with a grimace "and what's appropriate and not for a female your age?"

"Not much. 'Nari and Mei have told me the most. They just said if someone asks me on a date I have to ask them first... Oh and Mineta asked me to take my shirt off for him to join my team, but they said that I can't do that for just anyone." Mineta was not a bad kid but Aizawa decided then and there that his perversions were going to be stopped immediately, with force.

Aizawa pinched the bridge of his nose and exhaling deeply. This was going to be tiresome; he could feel the bags under his eyes getting darker just by the thought of having to teach his completely-oblivious-to-any-form-of-romance teenage daughter about dating. He hoped you were asexual but the cards never really played in his favor.

For the next few minutes Aizawa (leaving out as much as possible) went over the guidelines of what was good, what was bad, and what was very bad. You had so many questions.

"So I can't date unless you approve?"

"How do I know if I have a 'crush' on somebody?"

"So if I like somebody and they like me we kiss? Does that mean I should kiss all of my friends?"

"I've seen two boys kiss before, what does that mean?"

"Everyone has seen someone naked before so what's the difference if it's me?"

"What is love like, how do I know if I've been in love? Have you ever been in love?"

And Aizawa's favorite question of all... "Sex is for more than just making children?! How?"

Things were so much easier when he only had to worry about teaching you why murder was bad. Now he had to worry about you succumbing to your hormones, you actually having a personality and emoting, and god forbid...boys. Well, welcome to fatherhood. He wanted to be more annoyed, but you were so cute and eager and curious he couldn't be too mad.

Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed this fluff of a chapter before we get more on track with the story, this was very important in what is to come next chapter and from here on out so be ready!
