The Attack
Lee, Jack, Andre and Travis walked along the road, having just arrived back at the motor inn after their supply run to macon as it had just popped out into their sight where they saw Mark on watch with Ben underneath him and leaning against the RV. Lee and Andre took the front of the group of fou while Jack and Travis stayed back. They hadn't talked since they left Macon, having been made too tired and too shaken by the experience to do anything right now.
There was tension in the group as well and Jack felt it the more they distanced themselves from Macon. Everyone found themselves thinking back to the woman in Macon. Jack thought about her as well and knew leaving her behind to be killed wasn't the best choice morally. However, it was the best choice for their group as their group was too big to be swarmed by so many walkers. If they didn't leave her behind, then he was their group wouldn't make it out of there in one piece.
The blond haired young man shifted his gaze to Travis a second later and noticed what kind of look he had on his face right now. Jack knew it was finally time to address it with him, "How are you doing Travis?"
"How am I doing? Fuck. I don't know." Travis shook his head with an uncertain look on his face, "We had to leave that girl to die and Andre almost died when the door fell on top of him. Did we even have to leave her behind to be eaten?"
Jack nodded in confirmation, "We did have to do that, Travis. Sometimes things aren't as simple as doing the right thing. Remember what happened in the meat locker? Even if what happened with Larry was messed and I'll admit this, it's still had to be done and otherwise we wouldn't lose just him and Doug on the dairy. I'd have loved to be able to save that woman...but sometimes you just need to do stuff like this."
"What about me on the day you saved me and Ben?" Travis asked with his uncertain expression slowly fading away from his face, "Your group saved me after I let the walkers get close to me after vomiting."
Jack shook his head, "That was something different, Travis. Unlike that woman, you still could have been saved and we made sure it happened. Sometimes people like you can be saved and we made sure they're saved. However, some people like that woman or Larry can't be saved and we need to make sure our group won't risk their lives for them."
"I see..." Travis replied with his uncertain expression having faded away by this point as Andre looked over his shoulder at Jack with an uncertain look on his face. Letting out an exhale, the teenager decided to change the subject of the conversation, "...But what about me? Have I done good today?"
"You did more than good today." Jack smiled at Travis and reached out to give him a pat on his shoulder, "You provided for our group today and we'll have more supplies to keep us healthy because of you. If I were to say, you showed yourself to be a capable member of our group today and passed your test. I'll definitely trust you more with my back in the future."
"Thanks, man. I really appreciate it." Travis smiled at him. It wasn't long enough before the group of four made it back to their camp and Kenny met them at the gate and helped them get inside safely.
The fisherman shifted his gaze between the four of them with a relieved look on his face, "Glad you guys are back; I was getting worried."
"Nothing to worry about, Ken. We made out great today," Lee assured the man as they made their way through the camp.
Jack looked at him questioningly, "Anything happened while we were gone?"
"Not much. The bandits didn't show up even once while we were gone." Kenny shook his head and looked over his shoulder at Mark who kept watch, "If I were to guess, it's because they saw Mark on the watch and realized not all of the men left so they can't come here and rape our kids and women."
Jack's expression twisted a bit at his answer, "I see..."
"Bad timing?" Kenny took notice of his reaction.
Jack nodded at him, "Yeah."
"Sorry, pal." Kenny replied with a sheepish and apologetic look on his face as Clementine noticed Lee and quickly ran over towards him.
"You're back!" She told him with a sweet smile on her face, showing him her walkie-talkie which now had a couple of stickers on it as Jack, Lee, Kenny, Andre and Travis all shifted their gaze towards her, "Ben found some stickers in a drawer, and I put 'em on my walkie!"
"Hey sweet pea. That's neat. I'll find you in a minute." Lee smiled at her. Clementine smiled at him before walking off. Lee and Kenny walked over to the door to Lilly's room and Lee knocked on the wooded frame of the door twice before stopping, waiting for Lilly to open it.
Lilly opened the door a few seconds later and set her eyes on Andre, "What'd you get?"
"Everything that was left. Pharmancy is cleared." Andre replied with him and everyone else from the supply run group handing Lilly their bags.
"We're fine, by the way..." Jack muttered as Lilly turned away from them and walked over to her bed, checking how many supplies they collected in Macon.
Lilly's paid no attention to Jack's comment and smiled slightly at Andre, "This is really good, but with that place empty...we might have to start looking further into town. Or maybe start looking for more farms in the areas. If we carry on like this, we'll get through the winter here."
"You must be joking." Jack remarked, looking less than into this idea.
"You seriously want to stay here for the winter? We'll freeze our asses off here!" Kenny added.
Lilly crossed her arms with a displeased look on her face as she shifted her gaze between Lee, Kenny and Jack, "Because piling into an RV with you three, after what you did to my dad, is so appealing."
"Why wouldn't it be?" Kenny crossed his ams, "You know I'll do what it takes to keep everyone safe."
Jack nodded in agreement and pointed behind them towards the wall, "Take a look at the wall, Lilly. That's not graffiti, those are bullet holes. And we got enough arrow shafts sticking out of it to dry our laundry. And that's all beside the fact that Macon is busting at the seams with walkers."
"We have to go eventually, Lilly." Lee added, voicing his agreement with Kenny and Jack as Travis silently nodded in agreement.
Lilly shook her head, "We don't have to do anything."
"You didn't wanna go because of your dad's health, but he's gone now." Kenny retorted.
Lee shifted his gaze to him, "Easy, Ken."
"At it again, are we?" Carley asked with a tired look on her face, having just made her way to the argument place with Katjaa and Ben. Mark remained on the RV, not wanting to get involved.
Kenny looked over his shoulder at her, "Can it, Carley."
Lilly glared at him, "Don't boss people around."
"Like you're the one to talk." Jack rolled his eyes, "Somebody needs to make executive decisions for the group though, and I don't think you're capable anymore."
Lilly shifted her glare to him, "Don't start with me, either."
Katjaa shifted her gaze between Jack and Kenny, "Ken, Jack, we're all losing it with the attacks and lack of food..."
"We're strongest together." Lee said, trying to stop the argument.
Andre nodded in agreement, "It can't be you versus us, Lilly. We're sorry for what happened to your dad, but we're in this together now."
Kenny ignored them and decided to prove his point of the argument more, "What about the food situation? What about protection? What about when this place falls? Somebody's gotta be thinking about this shit."
"How has this not been working? We have everything we need." Lilly argued.
"Not because of you." Kenny pointed out and pointed at the supply run group, "I didn't see you risking your life by going to Macon with them."
"We got plenty of food from that station wagon..." Lee tried to end the argument again a second later. His attempt fell deaf on ears, though.
"Even if we have the food from the station wagon, we can't just keep our fingers crossed for more station wagons. She didn't even want to take it. Where do you think would be now if the others listened to her." Jack pointed out to him as he disagreed with his point. He shifted his gaze to Lilly a second later and added, "Do you know how we got these supplies? We got lucky and let a girl get eaten out there."
Katjaa looked at him in disbelief, "What?"
Jack quickly explained what happened to everyone, "Some girl came screaming out of an alley. She had dead hanging all over her. She gave us enough time to get everything we could out of the drugstore."
"You just let her suffer, like what, like bait?" Lilly shook her head in disbelief, "God, what is happening?"
"Hey. Don't talk with them as if you know what happened there/" Kenny defended their choice, having a look of approval on his face.
Jack rolled his eyes with his eyes staying on Lilly, "Don't pull this crap on me. Weren't the only one was okay with leaving Ben and Travis to die even if they could be saved?"
Carley raised her brow, "Couldn't be saved? How do you know?"
"She got bit right before our eyes. That's why." Jack explained as Andre looked at him with a worried look on his face, "If you don't agree with it, then we'll take everything we've got in these bags and put it in a pile marked "no hypocrites" and you can use everything else. I don't like living like this. But Christ, folks, it's not getting easier."
Lee nodded in agreement, "She was dead anyway. It made the most sense in the moment."
"I didn't like this myself. But they're right. Sometimes you just can't save other people." Travis voiced his agreement as well.
"They're right." Kenny choose to defend the supply run group's choice again, "They've been putting our lives on the line doing these runs into the city. I went on them myself and would go on it as well if it wasn't for my gunshot wound. You wouldn't believe the shit we see whenever we go out."
"We all appreciate it, you t..." Katjaa tried to say in an attempt to stop Kenny and Jack from arguing with Lilly any further as Andre placed his hand on Jack's shoulder, trying to calm him down.
"Look. Macon and it's people aren't saveable, it's not a town. It's full of walkers and the people who WERE left are people dying and wandering out onto the streets. It's hell on Earth and it's coming this way." Jack ranted, paying no attention to Katjaa's words or Andre trying to calm him down.
Lilly turned away from them with a furious look on her face, "It's not gonna be easier out on the road!"
"How would you know?" Kenny asked.
What I know?! I know somebody has been stealing our supplies! That's right, stealing." Lilly glared at him with her facing her group again. Ben gulped nervously which went unnoticed by the rest of the group, "To make matters worse. I know you're not above murder!"
"Don't you pull this crap on us." Jack glared at back at her as his patience was reaching it's limits as well, "Where was that mindset when your dad tried to kill Lee back in Macon. He showed himself not to be above murder of someone who fucking saved his life by getting the pills for him and you didn't seem to mind this back there."
"Shut up! Don't you fucking dare talk about him!" Lilly looked like she was ready to tear Jack into shreds like here right now and turned away from him and the rest from the group as she had no intention of dealing with his for any longer "Everybody get out! I don't have the energy to deal with this shit right now!"
"Fine. Whatever." Jack rolled his eyes, walking out of her room with Lee, Andre and Travis and joining Carley, Ben and Katjaa outside.
Ben crossed his arms, "That could have gone better..."
"You think?" Travis replied with sarcasm evident in his voice.
"She'll get over it." Lee tried to make the group less tense.
"She's riling everybody up, otherwise. She's right about one thing. None of this is gettin' any easier." Kenny sighed, walking away from the rest to cool himself down a bit as Katjaa followed him. Ben, Travis and Carley left shortly after, wanting to focus on something other than the argument which left Jack, Lee and Andre alone.
Lee sighed after seeing everyone leave, "Someone should go talk with her."
"Andre. You should go talk with her." Jack instantly agreed with Lee's idea and glanced at Andre, "You and Mark are the only ones she seems to calm around in this group. With Mark busy right now, you seem like the best option. It's probably worth talking to Lilly about things going missing."
"Alright. I'll get to it..." Andre nodded at them, agreeing with this as he pushed himself into walk towards the door. On his way there, he shot Jack a "We need to talk later" kind of look which confused Jack a bit. Jack and Lee walked off a second later, occupying themselves with their own stuff as Lee went to talk with Carley like he had promised to do back in Macon. The police officer opened the door to Lilly's room and entered it. He saw her sitting on the bed with her head in her hands.
She looked up at him with an apologetic look on her face as she heard him approach her, "I'm sorry."
"You don't have to apologize." Andre replied as he sat down on the nearby chair.
Lilly looked at him questioningly, "Did you come in here to give me hell or to coddle me?"
"I wanted to follow up on what you said about stolen supplies." Andre explained his reasons to her.
"Do you know what's going on?" Lilly wanted to know.
"I don't." Andre shook his head, "I just heard you mention it."
"Things are missing and I could use your help." Lilly wasted no time and explained everything to him with her voice growing sharper with each word she had uttered to him, "There's a traitor, somebody, one of is, out there. He or she or they have been taking things."
Andre's eyes widened in suprise, "For real? Who? What do you got?"
"Yes, for real. And I don't have shit. I just know." Lilly confirmed it to him without hesitation in her voice, "The count's off and it's the good stuff. Antibiotics, oxy, fuck, anything with opium in it."
Andre looked at her with a slightly confused look on his face, "I see the count and it's fine."
"I keep my own. That one's getting messed with." Lilly explained to him, "I can't start a witch hunt right as I know what will happen."
Andre raised his brow, "So you want me to start one?"
"I want you to poke around." Lilly replied, "You're the right man for this job as you have the experience from before the turn."
Andre crossed his arms with an interested look on his face, "What's there to go on?"
Lilly reached under her bed and pulled out a large broken flashlight which she handed to the police officer, "I found this tossed into the garbage. We don't toss out equipment. We fix it. You'd only try to get rid of a flashlight if you were using it when you shouldn't."
Andre eyed the flashlight and state it was in before nodding his head at her, "Okay. I'll poke around a little bit."
"Thank you." Lilly nodded at him with a grateful look on her face as Andre nodded in return and got up from his seat. He walked out of Lilly's room a second later, intending to start his investigation as quickly as possible.
However, just as he walked out of her room, a young male voice sounded behind him, "A mystery!"
Andre stopped in his tracks in suprise and turned around to see Duck standing behind him, "Jesus, Duck!"
Duck looked at him with an apologetic look on his face, "I'm sorry, I heard you guys talking."
"You need to un-hear all of that." Lee ordered as he turned away from them and tried to walk off to have his investigation
"Can I help?" Duck stopped him in his tracks again with his words.
Lee turned around to look at Duck again, "What did I just say?"
"You're the greatest detective and I can be Dick Grayson! Your ward!" Duck explained with an excited look on his face as Andre silently stared at him with a blank look on his face. Duck smiled a second later as he added to his explanation, "That's Robin."
"I know who it is. I'm not that old, Duck." Andre told him. He kept his eyes on him for the next few seconds and and sighed, knowing Duck will try to help even if he will tell him to not get involved, "Okay. You can help. Just don't tell anybody."
"Secrecy." Duck whispered in a dramatic manner, "I'm on the case!"
Andre let out a long sigh as Duck quickly ran pff to look for any clues regarding the broken flashlight. He looked away from the broken flashlight a moment later, turning to look at the corner where Jack was standing right know. Remembering there was something he wanted to talk with him about, he quickly made his way to his friend and stopped in front of him.
"Jack." Andre called out to him.
Jack glanced at him and nodded at him, "Hey. How did the talk with the she-devil go?"
Andre shook his head, "Shut up, man. You know you don't need to call her that as it only gets her more angry."
"I'll call her however I want unless she changes her attitude." Jack replied. He looked at him with a questioning look on his face, "What is it?"
Andre showed him the broken flashlight, "Do you know anything about this flashlight?"
"Someone broke a flashlight?" Jack looked at it with a suprised look on his face as Andre nodded in confirmation. The blond haired young man sighed upon getting the confirmation, "Shit. We don't have much of those."
"Yeah." Andre nodded at him, letting out a sigh himself, "This is why I am asking you about this."
Jack shook his head, "No. I didn't break it. Actually, this is my first time seeing it."
Andre nodded at him, seeing Jack was being truthful right now and decided to address what he wanted to talk with him about right now. He sighed, bracing himself from the reaction this conversatil will get out of his friend, "We need to talk about something else."
"What about?" Jack looked at him questioningly.
"It's about your behavior recently." Andre explained.
Jack sighed, "Don't tell me it's about the she-devil?"
"It's not just about her. It's about everything else as well." Andre replied as Jack raised his brow at him, "Your behavior and the way you are starting to adapt to everything is starting to worry me. You didn't even hesitate to leave when you left that woman in Macon to be eaten alive."
Jack crossed his arms, "I did what had to be done. There were four of us and there were tons of walkers around us. Do you think we would have survived if we didn't leave her behind? If anything, this choice is what allowed us to survive."
"You don't know that." Andre shook his head, "Who are we, Jack? The kind of people who leave others to die so easily? Because this isn't who we are. This isn't who you are. You didn't even blink back there. You didn't look back."
"What did you want me to do? Look back at her?" Jack raised her brow with his tone growing a bit angry, "That woman was a stranger and killing her would just get someone from our group killed. We didn't owe her anything."
Andre let out a frustrated sigh, rubbing his temples as his conflicted and troubled eyes remained on his friend, "Maybe. We won't find out if that would be the case now because of what happened. But sometimes it's not about who we owe, it's about who we are. If we keep doing things like this, what's left of us, Jack? We're losing pieces of ourselves every time we justify these choices."
Jack crossed his arms, "I'm doing what's necessary. It's a dangerous world, Andre. We don't have time for second guesses."
Andre shook his head with a serious expression on his face, "No, we don't. But if we're going to survive, we have to find a line and stick to it, or we won't recognize ourselves when this is all over. And I'm telling you this because you're my friend. I'm worried about you, Jack. You're shutting down. I don't want to lose you in all of this."
"Is this what you think of me now?" Jack asked with his expression becoming more hurt than angry, "Some kind of loose ends who is losing himself? After everything I've been doing to keep this group alive?"
"No. This isn't what I meant. I meant..." Andre tried to explain himself.
Jack kept his arms crossed, "Really? Because this is exactly what it sounds like to me. The world isn't what it was Andre. You can't do anything by the book of a police officer. You can't just rush in into the danger or leave us in danger because something was the right thing to do. Sometimes the best thing to do is not the right thing. I did it with Larry and I did it with the woman from Macon and I would do it again if I'll have to."
Andre met Jack's eyes, trying to convey the concern he felt without backing down, "Look, I'm not asking you to throw yourself into a suicide mission, Jack. I get that we have to make hard choices. I've made them too. But this isn't about whether what you did was right or wrong. It's about how it's changing you..."
"Guys..." Their conversation got cut short by Lee as the two shifted their gaze to him and saw him looking at them with a worried look on his face. He never saw them act like this towards each other before. He shifted his gaze between them, "Are you okay?"
"Yeah..." Andre replied, lying.
"Just great." Jack kept his arms crossed with his slightly hurt expression staying on his face as he gave Lee a questioning look, "Do you need anything Lee?"
Lee kept his worried expression on his face, thinking this is something they'll have to address later and let out an exhale, "I need to tell you something. I'm a..."
"Convinced murderer." Andre finished for him, suspecting what Lee was about to tell him.
Lee's eyes widened a bit, "What. You know...?"
"Lee. I'm a police officer..." Andre reminded Lee.
"Right..." Lee's expression grew a bit sheepish because of it. It became serious once again a second later as he glanced at Jack, "Did you...?"
"Yeah. I knew from the start." Jack nodded in confirmation and pointed at Andre, "Andre told me about it back on Hershel's farm."
"I see..." Lee replied in understanding and asked them to make sure, "So are we cool?"
Andre shrugged, "Lee. It's been almost four months. I may have cared during our first weeks here, but now I don't care. You proved yourself not to be a danger to us more than once and it's more than enough for me."
Jack nodded in confirmation, "You showed yourself to be more than good person to me over the course of the last three months. I don't care who you were or what you did before everything went down. You are a good guy in my eyes and nothing will change that."
"I see. Thanks." Lee looked grateful by them accept his past as he slowly began to turn away from them, "I'll leave you two alone now. Looks like you have something to settle down between yourself..."
"One more thing before you leave, Lee." Andre stated, making Lee stop in his tracks as he showed him the broken flashlight, "Did you broke this flashlight?"
Lee shook his head with a genuine expression on his face, "No."
"I see. Thanks." Andre replied, pulling the flashlight out of Lee's view and nodded at him, "Alright. That's all."
Lee nodded at him with an apologetic look on his face, "Alright. I'm sorry. I wish I could be more help."
"Don't worry. It's okay." Andre brushed his concerns off as Lee nodded at him and walked off to take care of his stuff. As soon as Lee found themselves out of their hearing range, Andre shifted his gaze to Jack and looked at him sadly, "Jack. Listen. I..."
"We'll talk about it later. Okay? I feel like both of us need to cool down." Jack cut him off, letting out a sigh and walked away from Andre to calm himself down from their conversation a bit. Andre watched his friend walk away from him with a saddened look on his face and saw Jack stop next to Travis and Ben with Travis beginning a conversation with Jack.
Andre shifted his attention away from Jack, knowing he should focus himself on his investigation and made his way to Kenny and Katjaa who were sitting next to each other on the couch, ""Hey, you two. How are you doing?"
Katjaa shifted her gaze to him and shot him an assuring expression, "We're okay."
"Just having a little spat." Kenny added.
"We all carry guns now, and, well, I don't like it." Katjaa explained what the spat between her and her husband was, gesturing to the , the pistol Kenny was carrying right now.
"It's the way it's gotta be." Kenny told his wife.
"I know. But I'm not getting used to it." Katjaa retorted and shifted her attention back to Andre, "I'm sorry, how are you, Andre?"
Andre showed them the broken flashlight, "Do you guys know anything about this broken flashlight?"
Kenny shook his head at the view of the broken flashlight, "Fuck, we don't got many of those."
"Yeah, it's a problem." Andre nodded in agreement, "The glass and the bulb are all busted out."
"I saw some broken glass over by the ice machine. I meant to clean it up before the kids hurt themselves on it; I forgot, though." Katjaa replied as Andre looked over his shoulder at the ice machine, seeing there was indeed some broken glass there. He nodded his head to himself, knowing where he will head next after he will finish telling his group about his past, "Thanks for telling me. I'll go check it right now."
"You're welcome." Katjaa nodded at him as Andre wasted no time and walked over to the ice machine, wanting to check the broken glass Katjaa had told him about. Upon arriving the ice machine, he crouched down in front of the glass and grabbed a piece of it. He put a part of it on the flashlight to see if it was part of the flashlight and the glass connected.
Andre turned around the corner and saw a wall with a chalk X. He touched it with his hand, inspecting it, "Huh. Chalk."
"Pink. Hmm." Duck hummed with a thoughtful look on his face, having just popped out into view from Andre's side.
Andre looked at him, letting out a groan, "Duck!"
Duck looked back at him with a smile on his face, "A clue!"
"Looks like it." Andre admitted, going along with it and touched the chalk. It was fresh. It was painted recently, "What do you think it is?"
"Maybe it's a sign!" Duck guessed.
"It could be." Andre had to admit Duck was thinking , "It's pink chalk, which is weird."
"Okay, back to investigating!" Duck declared as he wasted no time and ran off to look for more clues while Andre looked behind him and saw Clementine drawing something on a piece of paper with a plenty of chalk next to her. Even though he knew Clementine was not behind the missing supplies, he knew he had no other choice but ask her about the chalk.
The police officer made his way to her and greeted her with a small smile on his face, "Hey, Clementine."
Clementine looked up at him with a smile on her face, "Hey, Andre."
"I see you're having fun here." Andre commented, wanting to start a small talk before he'll get to the main point, "What's that you're working on, Clem?"
"It's called a leaf rubbing. My teacher Miss Moore showed us how do to 'em when we went to the botanical garden once." Clementine explained, keeping her smile on her face as she showed him the leaf and the leaf rubbing on paper, "See? It's the same! Um, kind of."
Andre smiled back at her, "Sounds like fun."
"It is!" Clementine nodded in confirmation.
Andre's expression grew a bit serious when he voiced his next question, "Do you have any pink chalk?
"No. It's gone somewhere." Clementine shook her head, looking a bit confused by the question and smiled at him a second later as she gestured to the other color, "Do you want blue?"
Andre shook his head, "No, no, it's okay. I was just curious."
"Psst, Andre." A voice called out to him from Andre's right and looked over his shoulder at the source of it where he saw Duck motioning to him to walk up to him. Andre raised his brow, looking a bit intrigued by whatever wanted from him and walked over to him after excusing himself from Clementine. Upon finding himself in front of Duck, the young boy wasted no time and got to explaining, "We found something."
The police officer raised his brow at him, "What is it?"
Duck wasted no time and held out pink chalk for him to see, "We found this piece of pink chalk and a scuff of it over by the gate!"
"Really?" Andre asked with a pleasantly suprised look on his face.
Duck nodded in confirmation, "Totally! I was combing the scene for clues and..."
"Yeah, Duck, I got it. Good job. If you'll keep going at it like this, then I might make you my personal assistant." Andre praised Duck for finding the chalk with his words making his face lit up as if he had just received a medal of honor., cutting the boy off before he could finish his explanation. Knowing he knew where to go now, the police officer wasted no time and walked over to the gate as Duck held his hand up for a high-five. Andre stared him for a second and high-fived him.
"Cool! I'm the police officer in the making!" Duck declared with a happy and proud smile on his face after Andre high-fived him. Andre couldn't help himself and chuckled a bit. Duck really knew how to keep everyone's spirits up. Even when the tensions at the motel were as high as they were right now.
Andre focused himself back on his investigation again a second later and pushed the gate backwards a bit. It was when he noticed a bit of chalk on the ground, "Somebody was over here too."
"See. I did good, huh." Duck stated with pride evident in his voice.
"You did more than good. " Andre smiled at Duck as Duck's smile grew at his words, "I suppose I should go out there and look around. You stay here this time. Seriously."
"Okay." Duck shrugged as Lee pushed the gate open and left the safety of behind the walls of the motel.
The police officer turned the corner, wasting no time as he didn't want to outside for longer than he'd have to due to the risk of the bandits seeing him like this. He quickly made his way to the wall, stopping in front of it and quickly notice a grate. He quickly opened it and and discovered a bag. He grabbed it, knowing what he will find inside and took a look into it and saw it was filled with medicine. Just like he expected.
"Son of a bitch..." He muttered under his breath. Upon making this discovery, he knew he had no time to waste and should tell Lilly about this. Not wasting any time, Andre quickly made his way back to the gate and pushed it close before making his way to Lilly's room. He knocked the doors to it a few times, letting Lilly know someone was coming and walked into the room.
Lilly, who remained on her bed, and looked up at him questioningly, "Please tell me you found something."
"I found more than enough." Andre replied as he handed the bag of medicine to her. Lilly wasted no time and took a look into it, frowning angry the moment she saw what was inside, "It's got a bunch of meds in it. It was in a grate on the outside wall and there's a sign on the other one."
Lilly looked up at him again with an angry glare on her face, "Holy fuck..."
"Yeah..." Andre agreed with her thoughts on it, letting out a sigh.
"Okay. We line everybody up. Everybody." Lilly voiced their next move to Andre as she got up from her bed while looking more than determined to find out who was the traitor among them, "Somebody is killing us. Stealing from that supply is the same as slipping into your room at night and cutting your throat while you sleep. You die. What is the difference? What if Clementine gets sick and we don't have what we need?"
"Lilly..." Andre whispered.
"Lee. You know it has to be done." Lilly sighed. Just as he was about to utter more to Andre, she was cut off by the sound of Doug's alarm system ringing through through her ears. She ran over to the window to see if her eyes weren't playing a trick on her They weren't, "What the hell?"
"You don't fucking steal from us!" Jake's voice sounded outside Lilly's room.
"What the hell is going on?" Andre asked with an alrmed look on his face as he moved towards the window.
"They've got our people out there!" Lee shouted as he looked out of the window as well. He saw Jack, Lee Clementine, Kenny, Katjaa, Duck, Travis, Ben, Carley and Mark on their knees with their hands on the back of their heads as Jake, Linda, Gary and Drew were standing behind them with their weapons right at them, "What do we do now, Lilly?"
"Shit." Lilly shook her head, hating the situation the ended up in as they knew they were more than screwed. She turned away from the window a second later and quickly moved to grab her rifle, "They're gonna start kicking in doors any second!"
"Lilly? What the hell are you..." Andre tried to say.
"Stall them." Lilly replied as she moved towards the back window and opened it.
"What?" Andre's eyes widened a bit.
"Just keep them talking. Do whatever it takes to stop him pulling the trigger!" Lilly explained, climbing out of her room through the back window with her rifle in ready.
"You made the biggest mistake of your lives!" Jake's voice rang through Andre's ears again.
"Shit." Andre cursed under his breath, letting out a sigh as he knew this situation could go worse in more ways than one if he didn't play his cards right.
The police offcier walked out of the room out of the room a second later, knowing he was low on time right now and wasting it would just put the captured members of his group in a worse situation than they already were. He let out an exhale to calm himself down, bracing himself for whatever was going to happen between him and the bandits and looked around himself trying to locate Lilly. He saw her taking cover on the balcony with her rifle in ready. He nodded at her and she nodded back at him.
"Enough of this bullshit! Drew, start putting your boot to these doors!" Jake declared to his group just in time for Andre to walk into his view with his hands raised in the air. He threw his shotgun on the group to make himself more natural to them as Jace aimed his pistol at him, "Hold it, pig!"
"Take it easy..." Andre replied, keeping his tone calm as he put his experience from his police work into good use in this situation, "We have more supplies. We can keep the deal going."
"Too late, shithead!" Jake shouted, keeping his pistol aimed at him., "We ain't giving second chances!"
"It was a mix-up!" Andre tried to buy Lilly more time, "We'll make it worth your while!"
Jake lowered his pistol a bit with his bandana hiding the interested look he had on his face right now, "I'm listening."
"What will it take to reach a deal?" Andre asked, playing more into his role.
"About twice as much as you've been giving us!" Jake voiced his demands.
Andre nodded at him without hesitation in his voice, "You got it. Done."
Jack completely lowered his pistol with Andre having his full interest now, "Is that so? Well, I suppose we oughta hash out some terms, then."
Gary glanced at Jake, "I don't like no hash." .
"Shut up or I'll..." Jake tried to say. His words died a second later when a bullet penetrated his skull, having been sniped by Lilly from her position on the balcony.
The bandits were left confused by the sudden death of their leader as the group quickly used this to their advantage and quickly rushed towards the nearest covers to shield themselves from the bandits. Carley looked down at the ground and saw the pistol Jake dropped when his body hit the ground. She quickly picked it up and stood up, firing the remaining rounds at Gary and Linda. Gary and Linda fell down to the ground like a ton of bricks.
Drew looked around himself in panic as Gary and Linda. Knowing he had no other choice but to run, he turned away from the motor inn group and started to run towards the fence. Andre picked up his shotgun and aimed it at Drew just as Drew started to climb over the fence and shot him in the butt. Drew cried out in pain as he climbed over the fence. He whistled, signalling the rest of the bandits to attack. The bandits immediately answered to his call and rushed out of the forest, beginning their assault.
Seeing how many bandits just rushed out of the forest, Andre did the smartest thing he could do right now. Run. He quickly made his way to the RV and hid behind it. Ben who was hiding behind a pile of furniture with Carley and Travis, tried to run over to Lee. A bandit fired at him and missed him, hitting the window behind him. Ben dived to the ground and quickly returned to his hiding spot.
"Fuck! There's so many of them!" Jack shook his head upon seeing how many bandits just rushed out of the forest, having rushed out of his room with his rifle in ready as he went to his room to get his weapon as soon as he and his group were given the opening to run.
"More than I expected..." Andre nodded in agreement, keeping himself hidden behind the RV as Jack stopped next to him. The two glanced at each other and exchanged nods, having forgotten about the argument they just had because of the situation they found themselves in as Lee took shelter behind the RV as well.
Kenny rushed out of the motel room with a rifle in his hand a second later, "We gotta get out of here!"
"No shit!" Lee replied, having just set his eyes on him with Jack and Andre doing the same.
"Get those bastards! Cover our people and get them to the RV!" Kenny shouted, handing the rifle to Lee as he got himself into the RV with an intention of leaving it running and ready for when the rest of their group will be gathered inside of it.
Lee, Jack and Andre exchanged glances with each other and nodded, knowing they had to act quickly if they wanted to get everyone from their group to safety. The three men quickly moved to the left side of the RV to see if there was anyone else and saw Carley, Ben and Travis were still hiding behind some furniture, unable to leave it as they were pinned down by the bandits to this position. Not wasting any time, the three of them leaned out of their cover with Andre moving towards his cruiser which was parked nearby to give Jack and Lee more space to maneuver.
The combined efforts of Lee, Jack and Andre paid off a few moments later as the three men quickly got rid of the two bandits which were pinning Carley, Ben and Travis down to their hiding spot. No longer having to worry about getting shot down by the bandits, Carley, Ben and Travis knew they couldn't waste this opening and quickly left their group. They quickly made their way to the RV, having safely found themselves behind it.
"Man, you saved our asses!" Ben expressed his gratitude to Lee, Jack and Andre as he and Travis rushed into the RV, having no intention of leaving it unless they will be far away from the bandits. Carley followed them into the RV, intending to get inside as well but stopped in her tracks upon hearing a scream.
"Jesus Christ!" Mark's pain filled voice echoed in the distance as Lee, Jack and Andre quickly looked in the direction of it and saw Mark clutching his wounded bleeding shoulder. Mark tried to use the opening left for him by Jack, Andre and Lee, like Carley, Travis and Ben did but unfortunely got shot in the shoulder on the way there.
Jack shook his head, "Shit! Mark!"
"Someone needs to get him!" Lee shouted with worry for Mark evident in his voice.
"I'll go there! Cover me!" Andre shouted, preparing himself to move out and get Mark.
Carley rushed out of the RV and joined them outside."I'll go with Andre! I won't let Mark die like Doug!"
"Alright. Fine. Be safe." Lee wished her luck as Carley nodded at him, silently letting him know that she'll be fine.
Carley and Andre exchanged glances with each other and nodded, both of them looking more than ready to go get Mark. Lee and Jack leaned out of the cover a second later, providing them covering fire as Carley and Andre instantly used this to their advantage and rushed out to get Mark. With the covering fire from Lee and Jack, both of the managed to make their way to Mark safely.
Mark clutched his shoulder with a pained look on his face, "Fuck. You came for me?"
"We ain't leaving you behind." Andre nodded at him, making sure to grab Mark's revolver from the ground and placing it in his holster so that it wouldn't be lost. Once he made sure he had Mark's revolver, he wrapped his arm around Mark, intending to help him with moving to the RV.
Carley pulled out her glock and reloaded it, "You take him to the RV and I'm gonna help Lee and Jack with covering you. Once you'll be there, I'll make my way to them."
"Alright." Andre wasted no time and helped himself and Mark up. He ran out of the cover a second later and started to make his way towards the RV all the while still supporting Mark.
Carley made her move a second late and opened fire at the bandits around the same time the walkers started to show up, having become interested in the motel because of all the noise the gunfight between the two groups was making. She killed all of the walkers which she laid her eyes on, almost emptying the magazine of his pistol in the process. It was when he saw a bandit aim his rifle at Andre and Mark and acted quickly by shooting him in the head.
"Carley!" Lee's voice sounded behind him as Carley looked over her shoulder and saw Andre and Mark had made it safely to the RV with Andre taking the wounded man into the vehicle, "Mark and Andre are safe! C'mon!"
Carley nodded to herself after finding out about this, happy to see she managed to save someone this time unlike what happened with Doug. She jumped to her feet and and started to make his way to the RV. Unfortunely for her, she didn't saw Drew lean out of his cover. The world slowed down as Lee and Jack saw Carley blink in surprise just before a bullet penetrated her skull. She fell down to the ground like a ton of bricks, dead as Drew lowered his pistol smoking pistol and quickly took cover behind the fence.
"Carley!" Lee shouted with his eyes widening in horror upon seeing Carley's body hit the ground.
"Fuck!" Jack shook his head. To think he was sitting next to Carley this morning and now she was gone. He glanced at Lee with a pitful look on his face, knowing the two were good friends, "Lee. I'm so sorry..."
"Help!" Katjaa's terrified voice sounded on the right side of the motel Lee and Jack as Lee quickly moved towards it even if both of them were still shaken after witnessing Carley's death. They saw Katjaa clutching Duck as they were hiding behind some furniture along with Clementine. They saw a bandit behind get tackled down to the ground by a walker shortly after. The undead quickly began feasting on him as more walkers started to make their way into the area.
"Katjaa! Hang on!" Lee shouted in worry for them as he leaned out of his cover and opened fire at the bandits and the walkers walking towards Clementine, Katjaa and Duck with Jack quickly following his example. After making sure the area was safe enough for them to leave their cover, he shouted, "Katjaa! Hurry!"
"Yeah! Come on!" Jack added, seeing the situation at the motel becoming worse with each passing second as Clementine, Katjaa and Duck jumped to their feet with Katjaa taking a bit more time to get up due to her covering Duck.
"Lee!" Clementine shouted, having just made it to her guardian as she embraced him after running over to him. Lee quickly returned the hug.
"Clem. Get into the RV." He told her as Clementine nodded and quickly went inside the RV, doing as she was instructed. As Katjaa and Duck tried to run to Lee and Jack, a walker knocked them over and Lee and Jack instantly reacted to this and killed the walker on top of them.
"Kat! Oh, Christ!" Kenny shouted upon seeing what happened with his family as he rushed out of the RV and helped Katjaa and Duck get up and run to the RV.
"Lilly, come on!" Lee yelled at to the person question as Lilly was still in the balcony, firing at the walkers and bandits from her sniping position.
Jack looked up towards where Lilly was right now, "Lilly! Come on!"
Lilly looked around herself, seeing how many walkers had just invaded the motor inn. Realizing the place was lost, she shook her head and strapped the rifle to her back, "Shit."
The walkers had invaded the motor inn, making whatever remained of the bandits to flee into the forest with Drew on the lead as Andre who had his clothes bloodied up from Mark's blood rushed out of the RV to aid Lee and Jack outside. Lee sighed, having just laid his eyes on Carley's body laying in the distance as he and Andre started to shoot the walkers on the let side as Jack shoot the walkers on the left side, giving Kenny enough time to start up the engine.
Lilly rushed into the RV just as the RV was ready as Jack and Andre followed her inside. Before getting himself into the RV, Lee looked at took one last glance at Carley's body and let out a saddened sigh while wishing there was something they could have done to save her. Even if her death was as sudden as it was and neither he or Jack could do anything about it.
He nodded his head to himself with his saddened expression staying on his ace, knowing it was time to leave. He got himself into the RV a second later, shutting the door behind him as Kenny started to leave the motor inn after making sure Lee was inside. He drove away, crashing past a barricade and drove away, leaving their destroyed home behind.
