Long Road Ahead

The sound of someone knocking at his door at the motor inn woke Andre up from his slumber. He let out a yawn, feeling a bit sleepy, just like he did each morning since the walkers showed up in his and everyone else's lives as he slowly got himself off his bed and stretched his arms above his head to make himself less sleepy as he did so. Not wasting any time, he walked over to the door and opened the door to see Mark standing in front of him.

Mark smiled at Ande, "Good morning."

"Morning to you too." Lee smiled back at him. He lookeda at him questioningly a second later, "What is it?"

Mark gave him an explanation, "Lilly told me to come and get you. She wants to talk with you about something in her room. She didn't specify what it was, though."

"Okay. Thanks for telling me. I'll go to her room right after I'll prepare myself for the day." Andre replied in understanding. He wasn't suprised by Lilly wanting to talk with him. She barely talked with anyone in the group after her father's death. The only people she showed no distate for in their group were him and Mark.

Mark nodded at him, waving at him as he turned away from him and walked off to take care of his own business while Andre closed the door to his room and quickly made his way to his bed where he would prepare himself for the day. He wasted no time and prepared himself for the day as he could and walked out of his room. He made his way to the door to Lilly's room, letting out a deep exhale and knocked down on it a few times.

"Come in." Lilly immediately replied to his knocking as Andre opened the door and walked into her room, closing the door behind him to make sure he and Lilly would be left alone for their conversation, "Good. You're up. I want you to do something today."

Andre looked at her questioningly, "Mark told me you want to talk. What is it?"

"I want you to take someone and go on the supply run to the pharmancy in Macon." Lilly explained to him. The woman looked like she had seen better days if Andre was honest with himself. The dark circles under her eyes were evident, "We're too low on food to hold off. The drugstore. We never finished clearing out the back. Last time you and Kenny said you missed under the counter."

Andre nodded in confirmation, "Yeah. This is exactly what happened."

"This means you should go there today even more." Lilly stated, "We need those supplies. We can't risk someone else taking those supplies for themselves."

"Okay. I'll take care of it." Andre nodded as Lilly nodded back at him in a pleased manner,"Who do you want me to take on this supply run?"

"It's up for you." Lilly responded.

"Okay." Andre replied in understanding as he turned away from her and started to make his way towards the doors, "I'll go get ready, then."

"Andre." Lilly called out for Andre just as he reached out to grab the door handle.

Andre looked over his shoulder at her, "Yeah?

"Just look out for yourself out there." Lilly told him. Andre was one of the two people she had trusted in her group. She couldn't afford losing him.

"Don't worry. I will." Andre gave her an assuring nod of his head, letting her know he will look out for himself in Macon as he grabbed the door handle and pushed the door to her room open. He walked out of her room, closing the door behind him and left himself with his thoughts, wondering who he should take with him on this supply run.

He looked around himself a second later, wanting to know where the rest of the group was right now to make it easier for him to decide and saw most of them spending time in the center of their camp. Jack and Carley were together on a now very worn loveseat in front of a low burning fire. Ben and Travis were with the two, sitting across from one another in a pair of lawn chairs while Mark was keeping watch on the roof of the RV.

He pushed himself into walk towards them a second later and greeted them, :"Morning."

Jack looked up at him with a smile on his face, "Morning Andre."

"Where are Lee and Kenny?" Andre asked about the two men who were nowhere to be seen.

"Lee is waking up Clementine." Carley replied. Her tone was blank. Like it was for most of the time after Doug's death. Emotion was showing in her every now and then, though. Mostly when she was around Lee.

Mark looked down at him from the RV, "Kenny and Katjaa should be getting out soon. Kenny took the night's watch as Katjaa is not allowing him to do anything else due to his injury."

"I see." Andre replied in understanding. Katjaa pretty much ordered Kenny to stay at the Motor Inn while he healed up. Even if Kenny voiced his reluctance regarding it more times than he could count. He shifted his gaze to the RV a second later. It was fully repaired now and he knew Kenny leaving in it was just a matter of time. He knew Jack wanted to leave with him as well and knew he wanted him to tag along. Andre felt unsure about this idea. He just wanted their group to stick together. Even if things were as tense they were today.

Mark looked ahead of himself at the woods in front of them, "It's been three days since the last time the bandits attacked us. It's weird."

"Have to agree with you here." Jack agreed with him, letting out a sigh. Three bandits showed up at the gates of their home two days after everything with the St. John family went down. Their leader was named Jake and two of the membes who were with him were named Gary and Linda.

With the St. Johns no longer being around to supply them with the supplies, the three bandits demanded what the group would expect them to want. They wanted shipments of food, medicine, and water delivered to them every three days, an amount that would have completely bled the camp dry by the second shipment. Because of it, their group was put in danger and they had to walk around with guns on them in case their home would get attacked. Something Katjaa made constant complains about.

Carley shrugged, "Maybe the walkers got them all?"

"No. They were too many of them to be killed by the walkers." Travis shook his head to deny this. "They're toying with us to make us lower our guard."

"Or they turned on each other. We did see that one guy kill his friend in the woods. They don't seem stable." Ben added with his expression becoming a bit nervous at the mention of the bandits.

"We can't be too sure about this." Andre shook his head. He looed over his shoulder a second later and saw Lee walking towards them with Clementint by his side. He nodded at him a second later, "Morning, Lee. Just the man I was hoping to see."

Lee looked at him questioningly, "What is it?"

"Do you have anything planned for today?" Andre wanted to know.

"Not really." Lee shook his head, "Why are you asking?"

"I just talked with Lilly..." Andre started his answer.

"You talked with her?" Jack cut him off, "What did that witch want from you?"

Andre ignored his comment and voiced his question to Lee, "She told me to go on the supply run to the pharmancy to collect the remaining supplies from there. She told me to pick someone to go with me. This is why I am here. Can you go to Macon with me? You know the town like the back of your hand; plus, even if it's half destroyed, the best shot we have of making sure we clear it out is with your help."

"I'm up for it." Lee nodded at him, "I'll let Clem know after we're done here."

Andre smiled, "Great."

"Will you be taking someone else with you?" Jack asked a second later as Andre shifted his gaze to him, "It can be too dangerous for just the two of you out there with the bandits around and all."

Andre nodded at him, "I was planning to take you as well. I just wanted Lee to show up so I can ask both of you."

"I see." Jack replied in understanding. He smiled at him a second later, "If that's the case, then you can count on me buddy. My legs could use some stretching."

Andre once again nodde at him and shifted his gaze to Travis. The teenager wanted to prove himself ever since they retuned from the dairy. The police officer figured out it was time to finally give him a chance, "Travis?"

"Yeah?" A bit of hope showed in Travis's tone.

"Will you come with us? You already showed yourself to be a good shooter. You can follow this up by proving yourself during a supply run." Andre voiced what he had to say to him. It was true. Travis proved himself to be a good shot right away when Lilly tested him and Ben. Ben was far from perfect, though. He didn't ask Carley to join them as he doubted Carley was in the right state of mind to join them and suspected leaving her at the motor inn would be for the best.

Travis smiled instantly, "Alright! You can trust me. I'm great at scavenging! You should have seen how I was scavenging for my and Ben's old camp. Tell them, Ben!"

"Could we really count that as a scavenging, though?" Ben asked his friend with a raised brow.

Travis groaned, "Ben! Come on..."

Jack crossed his arms at Travis' eagerness, "Someone seems eager."

"Almost too eager." Lee added.

Andre's gaze grew a bit stern when he added to his words to Travis, "Just make sure to stay close to us and follow everything we'll be done. If you won't, then we will be keeping you to the jobs around the motor inn."

"Sure!" Travis grew a bit nervous about it.

Jack chuckled at Travis' reaction and got up form his seat, "I need to go prepare for this supply run myself. I'll meet you at the gate in a few minutes."

Travis quickly followed his example, "Me too."

"Alright." Andre nodded at them in understanding. Andre, Lee, Jack and Travis parted ways with everyone a second later and went to prepare themselves for the supply run to Macon. They met at the gate a few minutes later, now having all the necessary equipment they needed for this supply run and set out for Macon, intending to back as soon as possible with as many supplies as they can.

-----

Jack, Lee, Andre and Travis walked down the desolated streets of Macon. They moved fast since they couldn't waste time, but made sure not to attract attention from anything that could be hiding in the dark alleys or buildings. They slowed down as they neared the end of the street. Not sure if the next block was clear or not, they stopped near a brick building to stay out of sight.

Not wasting no time, they walked out of cover to get a view of the next street. Standing in the middle of the street, the group of four took a good quick look at their surroundings to determine whether it was safe or not or them to slow down a bit to catch their beath. Fortunely for them, there wasn't anything around them which could pose a threat to them. They pushed themselves into walk a second later, keeping their pace slow.

All of them prepared themselves for this supply run and carried whatever they needed for it right now with Jack carrying a blue backpack. Lee, Andre and Jack each carried guns with Travis being the only one without a gun, having been forced to wield the sickle which was gifted to him by Jack after the St. John dairy. Lee carried a pistol which Carley lent him when they went out, Andre had his shotgun and Jack had his new rifle which he 'borrowed' from Andy St. John after his death.

"This place looks clear to me." Andre commented here upon pushing himself into a slower walk with his group, "We might take a break here."

"Just please don't jinx us, bud." Jack told him.

Andre chuckled, "I'm gonna do my best."

Travis hesitantly lowered his sickle, "I thought you guys said this place was dangerous?"

"It is. Don't doubt that for a second." Lee reminded the teenager, "It's just quiet right now, that's all."

"Never drop your guard." Jack added as Travis nodded at him. Andre shifted his gaze between the two. Jack and Travis started spending a lot of time together following what went down at the St. John dairy and Travis seemed to follow whatever advice Jack would give him. He didn't mind this. The kid needed to learn, after all and Jack already had enough experience.

Jack turned to the hardware store and gave a peak inside to see if it was worth checking out as he and his group continued to walk along the street. He sighed a few seconds later, realizing it was empty and not worth checking out as he continued to walk towards the drugstore. He really wished there was something useful left in Macon. However, this town was looted to the bone and he doubted anything worth taking aside from the medicine in the pharmancy.

He shifted his gaze to Andre a second later, " Andre. I never asked you that. Where do you come down on staying or going?"

Andre raised his brow at his friend, "You mean packing up the motel and getting in the RV?"

Jack nodded in confirmation, "Yeah."

Andre shook his head, "I'm indifferent when it comes to this to be honest. For as long as our group will stick together as we can't afford splitting up, I'll be fine with whatever."

"I think we should go as well if I'll get a say in this." Travis added, "The further we stay from the bandits, the better for all of us."

Lee nodded in agreement, "We should go. The motel's run its course and it's not safe."

"You're damn right it has." Jack voiced his agreement with Lee, "We pile into the RV and Andre's cruiser and don't pull over 'til we see water. And if Lilly's dead-set on staying, then, well, that's the way it goes."

Andre looked at him questioningly, "Do you really want to leave her?"

"It will be up to her. Not to me." Jack pointed out to him, "She can do whatever. I don't care as long as she doesn't put us in danger."

Lee, Jack, Andre and Travis arrived at the drugstore a moment later. The drugstore wasn't in the best shape. It was far from it as the place was a wreckage of what it used to be. A military chopper had crashed through the roof and ruined part of the building just a few weeks back. There was abandoned military vehicles spread throughout Macon, clear and final signs that the army had failed to exterminate the walkers.

Andre nodded at the view of it and stepped forward, "Okay, everyone, let's get inside and grab everything we can carry. It'd be best to not waste any time."

"How much is left there exactly?" Travis asked his group, "From the looks of it, I don't think there's much left there.

Lee sighed, "Not much."

"It doesn't really matter. We'll just take whatever's left." Jack added, glancing at Travis as he pointed at the ladder, "Travis, you're up first."

"On it." Travis nodded at him as he grabbed the rusty ladder quickly climbed up. Upon finding himself on the top, he crouched down and waited for the rest of his group to join him there as Andre followed him. Just as he started to climb up, however, one side of the ladder unattached itself from the rest.

The police officer sighed at the view of it, "Dammit..."

"Just when things started to go smoothly for once." Jack sighed at what just happened.

Lee looked at him questioningly, "You okay?"

"The ladder's come loose." Andre explained to him, "I'm not sure how many more trips she's got in her."

"I'm not sure how many more trips we've got in us." Lee stated.

"No kidding." Andre muttered in agreement as he walked over to the ladder and grabbed onto the bottom rung of the ladder, making the whole thing break off. He tossed it to the ground, "Looks like she's had it."

Jack sighed, "To be honest I'm suprised it lasted longer than I thought."

Travis looked down at them, "What now?"

Lee looked up at him, "Stay up there."

"I'll find another way up." Jack nodded n agreement.

"Better get a move on." Andre added, "I don't want to stay here for longer than we have to."

Lee, Andre and Jack wasted no time and looked around themselves to to see if their was another way onto the trailer, another way past it or perhaps another entrance to the drugstore. The front doors were replaced with the downed chopper, this is why the back door was the only know option. It was when a military jeep not too far from him and Travis caught their eye. They could possibly push it over to the trailer, which would allow them to elevate himself enough to get within reach of Travis.

He approached the jeep as it was his and his groups only option right now if they wanted to return to the motor in with anything. They knew sending Travis into the pharmancy all by himself would be too risky. Lee made his way to the jeep and quickly noticed a winch attached to the front of the jeep. It didn't seem in too bad a shape, might even still work. He grabbed the winch and started to walk towards where the rest of his group was.

"Lilly hasn't been doing so well lately." Andre decided to start a conversation with his group as they worked their way on entering the pharmancy, "Ever since we got back from the Dairy she's been, well, she's losing it."

Jack crossed his arms, "After what happened to her dad? I'm not suprised by this."

"What happened there, anyway?' Andre raised his brow at him, "You never told me or anyone else who wasn't in the meat locker what went down back there."

Jack glanced at him, "We did what had to be done."

"It was still a bit too extreme if you ask me." Travis commented.

Jack looked up at him, "It was still better than having to deal with an undead Larry walking around. What we did prevented more deaths from happening in our group."

"It's not good. I'm worried." Lee voiced his thoughts on the matter.

Andre shook his head, "No. It's not. I hope she doesn't snap."

Lee reached his destination shorty after. He bent down when he reached the tires and attached he winch to the trailer axle of the truck. He returned to the jeep and found the winch control along the side of the door. Fingers crossed, he flipped the switch in high hopes it would work. A medium humming sound was heard rught after as the winch began to retract. The jeep moved forward towards the trailer as Lee followed it.

Andre brought up another subject into their conversation a second later, "You know. I'm not worried about only Lilly. I'm worried about Carley as well."

Lee sighed, "You're not the only one. She isn't being herself after what happened with Doug back the dairy."

"I can't blame her for this to be honest." Jack stated, "Anyone would be affected if something like that happened to their partner."

Travis sighed in agreement, "Yeah."

"Let's just hope it won't put her at risk of anything happening to her." Andre voiced his hopes, "Lee. Maybe you could talk with her once we'll come back. You two always were close."

"I'm gonna try." Lee promised him with a nod of his head as he climbed up, finding himself on the front of the jeep. He looked up at Travis who extended his hand towards him, "You sure are up for this, kid?"

"I've got this. Gimme your hand." Travis insisted. Just as he uttered those words, a woman came sprinting out of one of the northern shops. She looked like a walker erself. She fearfully cried out as the few walkers that were chasing her followed her out onto the street. Travis looked towards her with an alarmed look on his face, "...What the hell?"

"What the hell? Is that a damn walker?" Lee immediately shifted his gaze away from Travis to the girl as Jack lifted his rifle aiming at the panicked woman who attracted more and more walkers towards herself with his screams.

"Walkers don't scream, Lee." Andre pointed out as Jack aimed his rifle at the walker on the ground near the woman. Just as he was about to take his shot at it however, the undead grabbed the woman by the ankle and bit her.

Jack lowered his rifle, letting out a sigh, "She's done for. They bit her."

Travis shifted his gaze between everyone, "What do we do now?"

"We need to put her out of her misery if she was bitten." Andre suggested. He knew they had two options here. Either they gave her a quick, painless death or let the walkers eat her alive.

Jack hummed thoughtfully, "Maybe..."

Andre raised his brow at him, "Jack? What do you mean?"

Jack shifted his attention from the woman to his group, "The walkers don't know we're here. We leave her alive and she draws them all to her, buying us time."

"Jack..." Andre looked at him in disbelief.

Travis's eyes widened a bit, "Are you fucking serious? That's a person, Jack! Are we can't seriously be leaving her!"

"We can and we will." Jack replied.

Lee sighed. It was tough for him to admit this, but he knew Jack was right, "Guys. He might be right. It's too risky; we shoot, and they hear us. We get swarmed; they're on here right now. We get the supplies and get out."

Jack nodded in agreement, "Exactly."

"Guys..." Andre shook his head in disapproval of their action as Travis reluctantly he quickly grabbed Lee's hand, allowing him to pull him up to the trailer while Andre continued to watch the woman and her screams for help while the walkers continued to surround her.

Jack gave him a pat on his shoulder, "Come on. Let's go."

"Fine." Andre sighed with a look of disapproval evident on his face as he followed Jack and both of them climbed up on top of the jeep Jack knelt down, boosting the police up to the roof of the truck.

Once Andre found himself on top of the trailer, Jack wasted no time and made his own move. He jumped up and Lee and Andre caught his hands, pulling him upwards to the top of the trailer. Not wasting any time, the group of four jumped off the trailer and made their way to the backdoor. They quickly entered the pharmancy through the backdoor, closing it behind them to give themselves more time to grab the supplies while the woman's screams continued to sound outside of the place.

Travis let out a deep breath, "W-We left het behind to be eaten..."

Jack placed his hand on his shoulder, "Travis. This was the only thing we could do if we wanted to make it back to the motor inn safely. We need you to be with us right now. Okay?"

Travis took a deep inhale to compose himself, "Okay."

Andre walked past them and stepped further into the building, "We should be good to clear this place out, but we ain't got all day."

"He's right. She ain't gonna keep them busy forever. Grab as much as you can before they get inside, don't forget to check every shelf and under the counter." Lee added, following Andre into the pharmancy as Jack and Travis nodded at him and wasted no time when it came to getting to work.

Not wasting any time, the group of four quickly split up around the pharmancy and quickly started moving from shelf to shelf, trying to get as much supplies as they could as the walkers started trying to break into the pharmancy. The four of them quickly cleared shelf after shelf, making sure not to miss anything. Energy bars, medicine and bandages. Eveything they could get their hands on and knew their group would make a good use of.

Unfortunately, their distraction in the form of the screaming woman didn't last forever as the walkers killed her shortly after and it made them realize they need to increase their pace. Fortunely for them, however, their plan of using the woman as the distraction worked out pretty well in the end as they managed to get all of the remaining supplies from the shelves.

The walkers had broken into the drugstore just as they finished gathering the supplies. Upon hearing how the walkers had just broken into the drugstore and were trying to break the door to the pharmancy open, the group of four knew it was time for them if they wanted to keep their lives, even if it mean leaving some of the supplies their group could use in the future behind.

"Fuck! Incoming! Come on, Lee!" Jack shouted as he and Travis ran up to Lee and Andre and stopped in front of him, allowing the two men to put all the supplies he had gathered in his backpack. After hearing how Jack zipped his backpack with all the supplies he put inside it, he moved towards the counter in front of him, "Up and over!"

"Right behind you!' Travis nodded at him as he followed him and jumped over. Lee followed their example a second later, having managed to do this without any problems.

The problems arose when it was Andre's turn, however, as he jumped over right after Lee and the door near him immediately fell down onto him with the walkers beginning to swarm him, "Guys! Help!"

He looked over at his group and saw Lee, Jack and Travis pushing themselves into run to help him without any hesitation. They quickly made his way towards where Lee was trapped and wasted no time in grabbing the door. Jack and Travis helped helped Lee lift the door up while Lee made sure to to take over the approaching walkers with Carley's pistol. The two of them lifted up the door and threw it away, allowing Andre to bring himself back on his feet as more walkers started to approach them. The police officer shot Travis a grateful look with his gaze growing a bit conflicted regarding Jack.

Lee kept Carley's pistol aimed at the approaching walker as he gestured to the fridge next to the rest of his group, "Fridge!"

"On it!" Travis replied as he grabbed the nearby fridge and slammed it over, crushing a walker to death beneath in the process. If he was honest with himself, he woud have felt like someone who won a medal if he wasn't in such a situation ight now.

"Out! Let's fucking get out!" Jack yelled out as soon as Travis slammed the fridge to the floor as he turned away from the undead and ran over to the front. The rest of the group followed him straight away with Lee and Travis keeping themselves close to him.

Right after Andre followed the rest of his group, a walker with a pilot helmet cover some of it's head jumped out in front of him. The police officer whacked the undead with his shotgun as the undead repled to his attack by trying to grab him. Doing the first thing which came into his mind, Lee used his shotgun to push it backwards into the debris, resulting in the walker getting it's chest is impaled on a piece of rebar.

"Come on, bud." Jack said as Andre ran up to him, Lee and Travis.

He climbed through a hole in the wall and the rest of the group quickly followed him, having managed to escape the undead without anyone from their group dying. However, they didn't stop running even if they managed to escape from the walkers. Running out of Macon as if their lives depended on it because they did, the group of four left the walker infested city and the now completely looted pharmancy behind them...
