Prologue
The operating table sat in a room separate to the main space of the Infirmary. Surrounding it were cupboards and tables full of equipment and supplies which took up most of the room.
Mia Grace lay on the operating table, asleep. "Will, we have to do it now." Simon, head counsellor of the Apollo cabin and head doctor at the Infirmary said to his older brother, Will Solace.
Will Solace sighed. He may have been a retired demigod, but this operation had to be supervised by a senior Apollo camper. "Alright. Do we have what we need?"
"Yeah, all the ambrosia and nectar is here, and I have two assistants." Simon replied just as two girls walked in; the Apollo cabin's two second most experienced doctors, Lucy and Mary.
Mary pulled on a pair of rubber gloves. "Are we ready?" She asked, walking over to where Mia lay.
"Of course we're ready." Simon replied. "Now pass me the equipment."
Lucy carefully picked up the machine and handed it to Simon who fitted it over Mia's face. "What's the objective of this anyway?" She asked.
"If all goes well, Miss Mia Grace will have her eyesight restored to her left eye." Will said. The machine turned on, and the room was filled with the sudden whirr of blades.
Suddenly, Mia screamed, making everyone except Simon jump. "Quick! Lucy! Pass me the nectar!" Lucy tossed the bottle of nectar to Simon who drained the entire thing down Mia's throat. Her body started to shake like she was having a seizure, but Simon wasn't going to back down.
"What's happening?" Mary demanded.
"Her body's rejecting the treatment! We have to stop!" Will cried, grabbing Simon's arm.
"If we stop now, she'll die!" Simon shouted as he started to rotate a wheel on the machine.
Mia's screams died down. Her body became still and she exhaled a breath, then stopped breathing all together. Simon removed the machine from her head and the four demigods inched towards the operating table as Mia's eyes shot open. But something was wrong.
Her right eye shone it's normal sky-blue, while the other one was dead grey. And as the blue eye blinked, the other one didn't.
