Part Seven
Mia was awake. She didn't know how long she'd been awake for, but it had seemed like over a day. Apollo Campers were constantly coming in and out of her room, telling her to rest up, but Mia couldn't sleep. For some reason she just couldn't shut her eyes and fall asleep again.
Maybe it was Ouranos. She felt his presence in her body, and he sometimes said things to her, commanded her to do things, like shove a packet of ambrosia in her pocket.
Or maybe it was the fact that she was too scared to go back to sleep. The prospect of seeing Ouranos in another dream made her shudder, and it didn't help that Mia's parents were constantly checking up on her.
To be honest, Mia felt quite bad for them. One child had been taken away from them for godhood - though he was never their child anyway, and Michael also sometimes came down to Camp Half-Blood to visit. Another child had died on a quest. Mia could feel how much they wanted her to stay with them, the way that they hugged her and Toby close in family hugs. Mia was just another child to leave them.
She didn't really want to leave. Ouranos had practically guilt-tripped her into joining him.
And then there was a knock at the door.
Three cautious girls shuffled into the room. Mia's face lit up. It was Lily, Emily and Maria.
"Mia!" Lily cried when she saw her friend lying there in bed. She hugged her, and all of Mia's worries vanished.
"It's so good to see you awake!" Emily was next.
"We've missed you heaps!" Maria didn't give Mia a hug, she just sat down on the bed and smiled.
"Sorry we weren't here earlier." Lily said. "We only just heard that you'd woken up a few minutes ago!"
Mia couldn't bring herself to speak. She stared hard at her bed sheets, wishing for the guilt to go away. Even now, she could feel Ouranos itching for her to betray the camp.
"Are you alright?" Maria asked.
Mia sighed. "I'm just a bit tired, that's all." Lies. A voice whispered in her head.
"How are you feeling? Does your eye hurt?" Lily questioned.
"It feels ... I dunno. Different, I guess. I mean, I can't see out of one eye, but I can still see out of this eye, so it's natural, I guess."
"Shame you'll have to miss out on Capture The Flag tonight." Emily sighed. "We need you on our team!"
"Only because I'd smash you." Lily scoffed.
"Well, I think I might be able to come watch if our parents aren't playing," Mia said. But in her head, she felt Ouranos whispering to her.
Yes, tonight. He said. The perfect opportunity to strike. You'll be a good servant, won't you?
"I hope my dad plays," Lily said.
"Yes," Mia said, not registering Lily's statement, answering Ouranos' question.
"He's such a good player for a retired demigod," Maria said.
"Yeah, I really enjoy watching him play," Mia said.
"Well, there's also something that we want to ask you, Mia," Lily said.
"Hmm?" Mia asked, looking at Lily.
Lily quickly repeated the prophecy to her. "Maria, Emily and I would like to go on this quest. Oh, and Thomas and Noah as well. Hayley, I'm sure Noah could persuade but I don't know about Ethan. What d'ya say?"
A spy in their midst. Ouranos chuckled. Perfect. You'll be put to good use.
"Um, okay," Mia said.
"Excellent!" Lily chirped. "Now, I'm off to go talk to Ethan or Hayley. See ya later, Mia."
